- A new video surfaced online showing better quality clips of the Chinese J-20 stealth fighter flight demonstration. It clearly shows how agile this most advanced Chinese fighter is. The key is that the video proves the turning ability of the J-20. I made a video before about this topic, you can check the link above. That video shows a newly produced J-20 testing in western China, this time a video shows the J-20 in active service achieving similar turning speed, which is about the same as the light-weight, super maneuverable F-16 fighter.
First of all, we need to talk a bit about agility. Bulky passenger planes and transport aircraft won’t be able to perform some air to air or air to ground tasks. All the dedicated fighter jets are lean, mean, turning machines. The J-20 can pull off G-forces that would leave pilots blacked out, all thanks to: Powerful engines: Generating thrust that pushes them into tight turns. Wing design: Swept-back wings for reduced drag and increased maneuverability. Control surfaces: Ailerons, flaps, and rudders that fine-tune every turn.
But why is turning so crucial? Think of it like this:
Evasion: Dodging enemy fire and missiles means outmaneuvering your opponent. A tighter turn can be the difference between life and death.
Target Acquisition: Slipping behind an enemy and lining up a shot requires precise positioning. A quick turn can put you in the perfect attack window.
Superiority: Outmaneuvering your opponent gives you the upper hand, dictating the pace of the fight and controlling the airspace.
Fighter jet turning technology isn't just for dogfights. It's used in:
Taking up positions that present major advantage in combat: Precise maneuvers for a safe and accurate positioning of the fighter in complex battle field.
Situation awareness: Agile movements for surveillance and reconnaissance, pointing the sensors to the most desired direction.
Maximising weaponry power: Apply ideal vector and velocity to missiles and bombs firing from the aircraft.
The reason the J-20, China's fifth-generation fighter jet, can turn so fast shows its marvel of aerodynamic design built for both stealth and speed.
Unlike most fighters, the J-20 sports a unique "canard" configuration. Those small wings in front of the main wings aren't just for show. They generate lift at high angles of attack, allowing for tighter turns and sharper maneuvers, leaving enemies in the dust.
But agility isn't the only trick up the J-20's sleeve. Its sleek, swept-back wings and sharp edges pierce the air like a knife, minimizing drag and allowing it to reach supersonic speeds with breathtaking efficiency.
Adding to agility, the J-20's true magic lies in its invisibility. Every curve, every angle, is meticulously crafted to bend radar waves, making it vanish from enemy screens. It is not hard to Imagine a stealth fighter jet stalking its prey unseen, ready to strike at the opportune moment.
The J-20 is now getting even more powerful engines, the Chinese built WS-15 turbofan. With its advanced avionics, and deadly weaponry, everything all come together for the J-20 to create a force to be reckoned with.

Great to see this J20 fighter Jet in action really a mind blowing. Congratulations for the great success ❤
They were not battle tested yet! As always poor quality when it’s made by china!
Surely but steadily, China is making progress towards its J-20 fighter jet.
China continues to improve its first stealth fighter jet, adding more advanced features as it expands the fleet and the rest of its sizable aviation force.
China's air force continues to improve and expand its fleet of J-20 stealth fighter jets.
The J-20 is China's first stealth jet and can launch missiles under extreme conditions.
Despite having to hide its munitions in an internal weapons bay to achieve a high level of stealth, China's J-20 stealth fighter jet can still launch missiles under extreme battlefield environments, bringing tactical advantages in combat.
It took nearly seven years for the J-20 to be commissioned since its maiden flight in 2011, and during this period, the aircraft underwent a series of combat-oriented test flights that challenged its limits and validated the warplane's safety under all kinds of extreme conditions.
The test flight confirmed that the J-20 can not only launch missiles under optimal conditions, but also under emergency and extreme conditions, which can bring important tactical advantages.
Stealth aircraft uses weapons bay to hide weapons within their fuselages to reduce radar cross-section and avoid detection, while also providing better aerodynamics.
China needs to develop its own aircraft and fighter jet to defend itself from external threats and to protect China national sovereignty.
The Chinese people should be proud of the advances made in their air force.
The F16 is an old 4th generation fighter jet....It came into service in the 1980. Comparing it with the Chinese 5th generation jet J20 is an insult.
well.. its not the same f16 at 1980. its' been upgraded many times
@@keyboardt8276 Not true. Radar, avionics and missiles are all more advanced, longer range and more difficult to jam. . Kinetic performance not much different from 4th generation is because there is no necessity to fly faster but 5th generation fighters are also more maneuverable. Are you telling me the engine of 5th generation fighters are not better than that of the 4th? If so, then why bother with 5th generation?
Here are the jetfighters experts discussing the jets.😊😊😊
Except from lack of supercruise and stealth capabilities, F-16 has better maneuverability than the F-22.
@@Bangy Then why bother spending so much money on research and build the F22? You might as well continue to build the F16 instead and save a lot of money?
Well done China PLAAF Super Technologies and advanced powerful fighter jets in the world. 💪💪👍👍👏👏💯💯♥️♥️
Beautiful beast!!
looks impressive !
It doesn't even have thrust vectoring yet...Gonna be a beast...
It has canards instead of thrust vectoring, to give a similar result. Personally I think thrust vectoring is better than canards, because canards add a lot of drag.

GREETINGS FROM THAILAND, TOO!👍👍🙏🙏👋👋😜😜💥💥😃😃👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is the same footage from before from that airshow. There has been nothing really new since the J-20 with WS-15 was briefly sighted. So it will likely be a year or more before any new info.
imagine the german/british typhoon would have to compete with that. by the way, do you notice the J20 get its narrow turning radius from using a counter acting front control surface to the AILERONS that are located AT THE FRONT edge of the rear main wing? this will make the rest of the rear main wing al the way to the rearmost edges of them stabilize and maintain aero grip at heavy loads of very high angle of attacks. there is no moving parts at the rearmost edges of the J20 rear main wing during that kind of high angle turn.
imagine a fleet of f35s to compete with that, is a more realistic comparison
Great job Nice technology by China
A very fine looking aircraft. Looks like it doesnt bleed much energy in the turn.
Wouldn't envy the pilot. Its alot of G.
indeed
Who made the flight controls? I think China recruited foreign programmers and engineers
Very very impressive.
Looking at the way it manoeuvre at difficult angle of attack can be considered as the best stealth fighter in the world. Technological advancement of China. Love from Malaysia.
indeed
J20 has 360 degree sensors and HMD so it does not need to get behind the enemy to shoot
Well done China. Very impressive flight performance. Wonder how J20 stacks up against F22.
J20 WS-15 engine has 181 KN thrust. 22 engine has 156 KN thrust.
J20 has far larger range and it's missiles have around twice the range of 35, 22 and it's missiles.
J20 ferry range is 5500km. 22 is 3000km. 35 is 2200km.
J20's PL-15 missile estimated range of 200-300 km, PL-21 missile range is about 300km+
35/22 AIM-120 missile range is 160km.
J20 top speed is Mach 2.55. 22 top speed is Mach 2.2. 35 top speed is Mach 1.6.
J20 service ceiling is 60,000 ft. 22 service ceiling is 50,000 ft. 35 service ceiling is 50,000 ft.
J20 also has helmet mounted display to enable firing missiles at high off-boresight angle which the 22 does not have.
J20 has 360 degree sensor and radar detection. 22 does not.
J20 will undergo more upgrades over time.
22 avionics is 20 years old.
In summary the J20 has superior range, missiles, avionics, engine thrust, speed, service ceiling, sensors and radar detection to the 22.
@@oot007It’s funny how most of those numbers are classified and over/under exaggerated by both the USAF and the PLA. The answer is: you don’t know. The F22 has over a decade of combat experience, while the J-20 currently unproven since it’s a newer platform. Only time will tell which is superior, but my money is on the older F22.

China airforce does not need to bit up some small country airforce to prove its ability.@@KC_Smooth
We will never know, because the f-22 is only used against balloons. If the f-22 had been any good, it would have been used in Ukraine, with American pilots, wearing Ukrainian uniforms.
The war in Ukraine showed that most aerial combat will occur at over 100km.
It looks really good, it appears to have canards instead of thrust vectoring.
Wow so good🎉 it's computer system is also powered by the Chinese CPU and Harmony OS
You have taken a basic baby step in manufacturing optical processors. Multi-frequency operation of one processor with different colors is next.
But it looks like it is turning very slowly.
你要知道它的尺寸和作用😂
*Nice Aircraft*
Looks like a biplane could out maneuver it😂😂😂😂
biplane could out maneuver any plane...
It hasn't shown that it can perform Pugachev’s Cobra, and the J-20's radar cross section while it is low is 0.03 at best while the F-22 radar cross section is 0.0001 at best.
The F-35 a radar cross section of 0.005
Both American aircraft will see the J-20 first and roast them while they do pretty maneuvers.
I wish my dishes that were made in China were this agile😂
It's doing this without thrust vectoring engines
yep
After some acrobatic show off, f35 fired first from a distance out of j20 radar.. 💁
…as the j20 out maneuvers it
Seems like, it has been continuously modified to address issues they found. As it was not a great fighter, but it seems that it is catching up. Wonder if they cracked the codes with their subpar jet engines
You have been misinformed.
I hear what he saying but the j-20 looks sliggish to me
Wohoo! Go Mighty Dragon!
You wish.
@@HYPEVYPE American bias…
@@Socratic2308 Ok so what if I’m American? I bet that you’re also biased, don’t lie.
@@HYPEVYPE I am but at least I don’t say that US planes are no match for Chinese planes because US fighters are very good but just because we don’t know the performance of the PLAAF fighters doesn’t mean they are bad. Plus if you don’t like me cheering for China, then keep it to yourself.
@@Socratic2308 At least I don’t live in an authoritarian nation like communist and atheist China.
Since when exactly is F16 supermaneuverable??
Always it’s known for its high AOA and ability to turn on a dime
Vely implessive! I wonder how much this cost at Alibaba.
same as many items westerners bought from western shops
Comparing this to F22 is a joke. F22 is unbelievable
What matters is how it competes with other 5th generation fighter jets, only then you can say it's outstanding
Performance is better than the F-35 but not the F-22. F-22 still has the best performance.
Dear friend, the use of canards give more agility, as you mentioned in your video, but also affects steathiness negatively.
The J-20 is making a honest compromise for the need to conduct agile dog fights with enemy jet fighters fighters, at the expense of giving up much of the stealthiness - compared to non-canard 5th gen fighter designs.
I believe that some angles have an increased impact, concerning the easier detection of the fighter by radars -even in K-band- but this is a fact that PLAAF bares in mind, but I also trust that they weigh this fact on planning the fighter's airborne operations.
5th gen fighters are not just about stealthiness, btw. There are some other important charecteristics that make the difference from the previous generation, also...
Actually if you look at the canards, you can actually see that they’re slightly tilted, not completely straight like the Rafale and JAS-39. The angled canards are actually stealthy, the aircraft needs to fly in a specific angle for the canards to be visible on radar, otherwise the radar wave will just be deflected away like the body.
you think China fighter plane designers never do such ground work, they have the world best wind tunnel until mach 30-40. China has many wind tunnel for plane and rocket testing. they even produce very detail and accurate data compare to western countries that depend too much on simulation which always have flaws. China emphasize more on real test data, they use real plane to even generate accurate data. That is why when they push for a new iteration, it will always be from front to the tail end and aeroengine, China now is the best at fighter plane design. Even their drones are wind tunnel tested
Why would the J20 need more "Stealth", being the same concept brought by the Americans for their First Nuclear Strike plan in mind, there is a reason why it has its B2 with nuclear capacity, the F22 would only be an escort
I think that thrust vectoring would be better than canards. The Chinese already have Russian jets with thrust vectoring, so they are fimiliar with the technology.
@@johnbodman4504 I'm not so sure... You see, the avionics needed for such a characteristic relied only in russian technology. I mean, there are patents to be bought, licences etc...
The J-20 is solely a chinese effort, with a fair share of copying (concerning specific stealth characteristics) from the Americans, according to the media. Nothing to be shamed of, EVERYBODY steals..!
J20 will be Gravity 2 missile

J-20 live up to it name, Mighty Dragon J-20s regularly fly over Taiwan and are not detected by US made Taiwan's military radar.
And who told you this?
@@black10872 Taiwan is a Doppler pulse radar having no way to detect stealth fighters. The J-20 jets will only be discovered very close, unless a quantum radar is required, but Taiwan does not have a quantum radar. Contrary to the continues empty propaganda of the so-called united states , the design is completely indigenous and does not resemble or say that it is inspired by any of the so-called united states...
stealth platforms , even not inspired by or resembled the prototype YF23 black widow ...
The project was completed in a very record time, even for a fighter plane with a traditional design, and it can be developed , evolve improved and thus enhancing the performance and characterstics over time.
I think the stealth capabilities had been tested against :
1- radar systems they were extensively tested against ground based and airborne radar devices manufactured by Chinese defense industries or operated by the PLA various branches (Chinese and Russian origins, given the centrality of the ground based air defense systems within Soviet combat doctrine, all of which possess advanced performance capabilities and capacity) and from various directions and ranges, and were inevitably tested under conditions of intensive EW jamming environment.
2- Infrared signatures against the long and medium ranges and space-based electro-optical sensors, surveillance , monitoring and reconnaissance devices for measuring the thermal signatures from different directions and ranges ...
3-- Perhaps also against electromagnetic emissions emanating from the working, operating and the usage of various devices and sensors inside the aircraft ,Here, the designing of the internal and external structure of the fuselage coupled with radar-absorbing painting & materials can be sufficient to silence or contain any electromagnetic emissions that could leak or penetrate through the thin skin fuselage ...
Some components of the avionics system are based on a pulse Doppler radar that continuously and automatically calculates altitudes ...
Although I am extremely impressed by the progress of the stealth designing and the flying characteristic aerodynamic performance and overall performance data , as well as the fact that it is a completely local Chinese project the speed of the project’s completion.
But the question remains: Would it have been better for the plane to be a joint project between China and Russia? Maybe yes and maybe no, but in short, this would have allowed :
1-Significantly reduction in the designing, development and production costs ...
2- Exchanging broader ideas and thoughts between engineers and technicians from both parties to come up with an ideal design and performance specifications and cutting the times need it for developments and solving emerging problems ...
3- Given the vast geographic sizes of the two countries, the nature of the surrounding threats , the assumed areas of operations or the theaters of operations, and with them the strategic
,operational, tactical needs and requirements performances established by the armies of the two countries...
4- Unifying the industrial and logistics bases in a way that will allowing the exchangeable and flowing of components, equipments, spare parts and weapons systems between the two countries ...
LONG LIVE CHINA LONG LIVE PLA ...
How the heck are you going to refer to the United States as “so-called” when China calls itself the “People’s Republic of China?” Clearly China doesn’t even care about its own people when the only thing they care about are strategic gains and having total Pacific domination by constantly violating international law on a daily basis.
How are you going to defend China like that when it’s constantly violating international law in a daily basis?
In the recent past, both China and Russia have beniffeted from the exchange of technology, but I believe that they could take it a step further, as they have the same friends and enemies and they have no reason to fall out in future.
@@johnbodman4504 I agree with you there is an increasing economic cooperation between the two countries which will help russia to replacing their energy sector over depending on the doomed european markets ...
But I think that perhaps it would be better for our friends in China and the Russian to produce joint weapons systems.
This will reduce the time required for development and problem solving, allow for a broader exchange of ideas, and contribute to reducing costs. With the unification of combat and operational requirements, the specifications for one of the two parties will improve, and with the standardizing of industrial production base will facilitate the logistical flow of hardware and spare parts and ammunition and in any in coming wars the Integration between the two countries will be essential to help solve the problem of demand and supply that it has recently for example suffered from Russian army in the Ukrainian theater of operations, although China, as a result of the size and extent of development, maturity and stability of its industrial and technological sector (the World Workshop), may be less affected by the supply problem, but it is It still suffers from fundamental shortcomings in the jet engine sector and they are basically and for large extents depends on soviet and Russian designs for their weapon systems, and is in dire need of a stable flow of raw materials and energy necessary to operate the military machine, driving the economy, and running the basic services...
...
I agree, the more that Russia and China work together, the stronger they will become. Much stronger than if they just continue to develop their research and engineering on a separate basis. World peace depends on the strength of a Russia ---China alliance.@@LIONIQ-foxhound

It’s important to out-maneuver missiles if you can’t outrun them.
If your stealth fails, you need to rely on speed and agility which is why YF-22 was chosen over the YF-23.
maneuverability is still a valid objective.
stealth figther against old-generation non-stealth - ya sure, go ahead and fire missile beyond visual range.
but what about stealth vs stealth, where presumably both sides can't detect/lock-on each other until...closer
Not only that, most current Rules of Engagement (outside of a full scale war) requires positive visual identification.
