  • TESTING Walmart Prime STEAKS on a $19 Grill | Ft. Kosmos Q
    OUR WALMART HAS PRIME STEAKS! In Oklahoma, our Walmart selections can vary depending on what part of the state you live in, but we’ve been able to find some nice PRIME steaks all over the city here lately. So we decided to put it to the test! Prime steaks have a bit more intermuscular fat than the average choice steak but you have to be careful when cooking them or they just fall apart on you a little easier than the cheaper ones. We went plain jane on these rigs using only salt and pepper, and our $20 Walmart cooker just so we didn’t give ourselves an unfair advantage! Check out the recipe below and get to cooking!
    WATCH NEXT ► • Steak On A Budget? Wal...
    Ingredients:
    -2 Prime steaks from Walmart (One Ribeye, one NY Strip)
    -Salt And Pepper (we like pink Himalayan salt)
    -Something you can start a fire in with a grate, anything will work if you make it.
    Recipe:
    -Start your charcoal or cooker of choice so you can be ready with your heat when the steaks are prepped.
    -Pull out both steaks and make sure everything is in order, there shouldn’t be any trimming required here. But use your discretion.
    -Season both sides well with salt and black pepper.
    -Let them sit on the cutting board until they are nearly at room temperature and then throw them on the grill!
    -We like to start by cooking these indirectly and getting them up to about 105 degrees F.
    -Once they’re at temp we move them over to the fire and put a great sear on them! We like for our steaks to finish at about 127 degrees F. After they rest this is a perfect Medium Rare. That's the magic number!
    -Give your steaks time to rest, and then dig in!
    -Also here is a link to the Maillard Reaction. We talked about it, only in our native redneck speak. en.wikipedia.o...

    Hey Kosmo, I cooked some beef skewers on my pellet smoker last night. I cut the beef and tossed it in Texas beef and Cow Cover, and smoked and then reverse seared them. My friend, that was some of the best tasting steak I have ever made, NO KIDDING! Amazing. I posted a video of me making them on my Facebook page, and a link to your website, and told all my friends to go order some Cow Cover & Texas beef RIGHT NOW! Great stuff, I AM SOLD on it! @@KosmosQ Why pork ribs and not beef? I am one that does not eat pork cause I believe pigs are a very dirty animal. It is something i just started maybe 2 years ago, but do miss it. I can not see how hard it is not to mess up pork ribs. Beef on the other hand is harder in my opinion. But I am about 90% to beef rib perfection! Just trying to get some insight, been bbqing and grilling for several years but 2018 I finally made a breakthrough. 2019 was phenomenal. 2020 I want to try tomahawks, ribeyes, and wagyu.

    Over cooked for me but they looked good. What makes a steak good? Guess it differs for everyone... IMO seasonings, how it’s cooked and marbling. How much marbling does a NY Strp have??? Not much if any. Ribeye hands down better than a strip. I’d rather have a sirloin than a strip but just my opinion. Hard to beat a steak cooked over mesquite coals too. And also I do find some decent steaks at Wal-Mart sometimes. Thanks for the vid! ✌️

    I had no idea Walmart sold prime steaks , all I ever see is choice angus which I love , local sams club sells prime steaks tho. An as far as using a thermometer I 100% agree if I’m spending money on steak hell any kinda food I’m gunna no doubt use a thermometer why chance it being over done or under done ? An also the “feel” test doesn’t always work especially with prime cuts because it can be well done an still be soft to the touch. A better way to tell if your close to meduim rare , or medium, if you just are to stubborn to use a thermometer is to watch for the blood to start to rise up out of the meat. But guys if you have access to a temp gauge USE IT!

    Hey guy I live in the OKC area, love the content about Oklahoma you are putting out. Little do most most people know, Oklahoma is a great place to be for bbq (among the greatest fishing state there is). I have a couple questions. A. Where are the butchers you source from normally? B. How do you prefer your catfish? How would you BBQ fish or do you like it fried?

    • @KosmosQ
      @KosmosQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dalton Gaither. We typically cook meat from Snake River Farms on the channel for Wagyu cuts. But for the normal every day stuff we track down prime steaks or brisket at Sams/Costco, or just Winco foods/Walmart.
      I prefer my catfish in the water, or breaded and fried.

      @KosmosQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carter, You want to find one with some decent thickness, a nice looking lip/cap, and some consistent inter muscular fat. This is that white ribbon of fat that runs through the whole steak. It renders down and keeps the steak tender when you cook it. Once you get the hang of it you can even feel how tender a steak is through the plastic just by touching it.

    Not saying I’m right whatsoever but for me I’ve cooked many Prime and Choice steaks and I always get more compliments when I cook choice steaks and my best guess is that Prime has so much fat running though the muscle that it bothers some people from a texture standpoint.
    I also never just salt and pepper a steak. My favorite spice is garlic peppercorn along with some hot cow cover. Always comes out amazing.

    I do know how to cook a steak with the palm comparison However I use a probe on most everything else, I own several probes and use them all as a good probe is a must.

    After sitting there cooking and making this whole video, all you have to say about the NY Strip steak is that it has better flavor? That's it?

    It’s not the knife or the grill that makes great food, it’s the chef utilizing them.

      I've commented many times that I'd love to see a video where you only used salt and pepper and not a bunch of seasoning like most videos.....so of course, I have to comment when you NAIL IT! Love to see, and do, all kinds of different seasonings and styles, but love the classic salt and pepper most.
      GREAT CHANNEL, GREAT VIDEO.

    Good call on the cheap grill! Next time I'm going camping or tailgating and don't wanna haul my webber I'm gonna grab one to bring. Strip steaks can be great and seem to get a smoke flavor pretty easy!

      A few weeks ago my local Safeway had a prime ribeye slab and the butcher there would cut it as thick as you like! 24.99 a pound. Pretty dang good. But I’ll be grilling four 20oz prime NY strip from Costco in a few hours. Can’t wait.

    I can’t understand why some people would put all kinds of “flavorings” on such good steaks. Steaks have such good natural flavor that just a pinch of sea salt and ground pepper is all that’s needed. I eat mine medium rare and don’t dare cut away and throw away the fat.

    • @alexblaze8878
      @alexblaze8878 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. A friend once said “if you have to add spices to your steak you either a) don’t know how to cook it right or b) you don’t really like the true flavor of steak that well”

    Nothing wrong with using a thermometer. Thats the only way you can make damn sure its cooked perfectly. Im gonna make sure i have a perfectly cooked steak every time instead of acting like a badass that "knows" when its done. Most professionals and pitmasters use them from what ive seen.

    Just getting into charcoal grilling. Why do some people use lump charcoal over bricketts?

    • @jaysbrappingbbq842
      @jaysbrappingbbq842 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blake Law lump burns hotter then brickets

    • @KosmosQ
      @KosmosQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Blake Law, Briquettes are better for longer burn times as the fuel is compressed into those tight little cubes, lump by nature just produces higher heat due to larger pieces and the air flow is much less restricted because of how differently the pieces are sized.
