Honestly, the goofiest part of Bass taking out Beefcake was WWF putting a "Censored" sticker over Brutus's bleeding forehead. I think Vince had a "no blood" policy back then to contrast with the territories, who would juice to get cheap heat (Memphis being particularly notorious for that). Flair actually got in big trouble with Vince when he did a five-alarm blade job during his Wrestlemania match with Savage a few years later.
It was the Beefer who cut poor Miss Betsy into pieces with his pruning shears. The Outlaw was justified in attacking the Barber....you reap what you sow.

I have an original Summerslam 88 VHS and it had Honkytonk Man vs. Brutus the Barber on the back of the VHS with another sticker over Brutus that says Ultimate Warrior... so it apparently a typo on the box when they put Brutus' name there. Again, great job sir!

I don't know if the Honky Tonk Man reads this. But if he created the scenario to change the title over to the Warrior, he should STILL be working for the WWE. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I like hearing the story here as I watch these HTM clips. But it seems a bit revisionist at many points. He expects us to believe that this was all hush hush he told no one (but a few people, so I guess it wasn't actually no one), that he had no problem with Warrior totally embarrassing him in the ring and making him look like a jobber there and that he was happy with this whole plan as if he was in on it with Vince as if this was their idea suddenly. I understand saving face and trying to be on the right part of history but... I do think a lot of this is quite revisionist to twist it into a more favorable light for him. And of course its all fake and staged so does it really matter? No. We have no idea if Brutus Beefcake was part of the original plan or it just changed suddenly when they pushed Warrior. It could be either way. I for one would have rather seen Brutus get the push over Warrior to be IC but that is me. I liked Brutus much better than Warrior.

But then came ‘The Barber’ gimmick & it that ruined everything for me. To me, Brutus was better as a heel. He lost his edge when he went face & the novelty of cutting his opponent’s hair wore off fast.

I never liked Brutus’ gimmick of the barber. I liked him as a bad guy and when he was in a tag team with Greg Valentine.
