brutus beefcake was not "red hot" he was hot but it was largely due to the tag team he was in and Greg Valentine being very over during this time. after the dream team broke up Brutus NEEDED a gimmick due to shortcomings of his own as a wrestler (subpar promo, limited in ring ability, psychology primarily fueled by his partnership with Valentine and Jimmy Hart/Luscious Johnny) Why would Patterson want to create beef with the companies biggest star by pissing off the star's closest friend? beefcake should thank pat patterson every day for giving him a gimmick that made him "red hot", probably bumped up his $$ due to marketability and helped him become a true singles star for a solid 2-3 years
Everyone seems to hate Brutus cause he got a huge push because of Hulk. As a kid I thought he was good, had heaps of heat as a male stripper. Brutus seemed pretty over to me. He's more believable than Rey Mysterio winning the heavyweight title at least. I'd believe Brutus before I'd believe Hulk, now HULK is a liar and a backstabber. Brutus seems pretty truthful, I don't know why everyone in the business hates him?
Speaking as a former kid of the 1980's who lived through the golden era of WWF, Brutus was as over with the fans as Macho Man, Jake The Snake, or any other top baby face wrestler besides Hogan. He's absolutely a HOF guy and his barber gimmick is what he's best remembered for.
