    Hello, i'm pinning this comment for a few more details concerning the C3 and what would be good alternatives to it depending on what you're going to use your grinder for. The C3 is great for filter coffee but for espresso this is definitely not the grinder for you but it could make pressurized espresso well enough. Bare in mind i've only done filter coffee and not touched espresso yet but these are what i think would be good options to look for on the market.
    Timemore C2 (~50$) : www.aliexpress.com/item/4000978924080.html
    The younger C3's brother can be adjusted for twice the amounts of clicks but however uses a different burr so grind uniformity and taste will be different. I prefer the C3's burr but if you're looking into pressurized espresso this has 4 clicks available whereas the C3 only has 2 clicks.
    Xeoleo with 6 star burr (~50$) : www.aliexpress.com/item/4000088848451.html
    A very interesting grinder because it uses a burr that is similar to the well-known (and very expensive) Comandante C40. I unfortunately don't know how many clicks are available but it is very similar to the R11 coffee grinder that i compare it to in the video so this could be a very interesting budget coffee grinder for pressurized espresso and filter coffee.
    It is also similar to the Normcore V1.1 which according to the manufacturer has 12 clicks only so if the Xeoleo and Normcore use the same system they would have 3 clicks for espresso.
    Hero S01 (~50$) : www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002900855017.html
    Consider this as a plastic body alternative to the Timemore C2 since it uses the same burr.
    Kingrinder K1 (~45$) or K2 (60$) : www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003874237354.html
    They are marketed as starters for italian / pressurized espresso and use a good 6 star burr just like the Xeoleo. The K1 for 45$ is a really interesting choice but no information on the click range. The K2 uses a bigger 48mm burr so that is worth considering as well.
    Hope this helps, there's really a lot of options for budget coffee grinders and i can't compare them all since i've only had the Timemore C3, Hero S01 and R11. These are my top picks.
    For espresso, Kyle Rowsell made a very good comparison of hand grinders on TH-cam. My budget picks for espresso would be the Normcore V2, the 6 star version of the 1Zpresso Q2 and the Kingrinder K3 / K4 / K6. These are all around 80 to 120$ so quite the step up from the 50$ ones but really worth considering if you plan on touching espresso in the future. Good luck in your coffee journey :) !

      @@iquintani Hello ! I remember someone fitted a C3 burr set inside a C2 and it did fit so it could be interesting to replace your C2 burrs with the C3's S2C ones. If you can find the 1Zpresso Q2 Heptagonal or the Kingrinder K5 / K6 those would be very interesting upgrades too. I feel like the C3 was really good for these coarse methods but weren't the best for finer grind methods.

      Have you tried disassembling it? Might be something stuck inside the burr. Try unscrewing the bottom all the way so everything pops out and give it a good clean. I have a video here : th-cam.com/video/bBIqFtG2rvc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d6J2AoxIrWM9zeBl It's not the same model but it's pretty much the same procedure. • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you kindly :D
      So if i go for the recipe i showed here which is just a method most people use, i go for 11 to 13 clicks. It depends on the roast (darker would be 13, light would be 11 as it has to be finer for more extraction).
      I however changed to Tetsu Kasuya's method which i showed in my latest video in a bit more detail as well as the 2021 Aeropress Champion recipe and they both use coarsely ground coffee. I go for 17-18 clicks using those methods and i highly recommend you giving those a try :D not sure if it's the C3 doing really good work at coarse settings but my brews have been great. Love that pouring method you've got going. I'm getting my first hand grinder soon. Came across your video cause I was looking at the Timemore C3 but I think I'll settle for the Kingrinder K1 instead since it can grind espresso too. Not looking to spend too much on a first grinder. I think the K2 is probably faster cause of the larger burr but any of the Kingrinder are compatible with electric drills so.... worst case, I'll use an electric drill hahaha

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello ! Glad to hear :D
      Are you from the US ? Because I've seen the whole Kingrinder lineup on Amazon being particularly attractive pricewise on it. I think going for a Kingrinder is definitely a good first grinder choice, you should be more than happy enough with the K1, if you plan on filter coffee (and other slow mehtods) and pressurized espresso that is. If you plan on trying out non-pressurized / single wall espresso it could be interesting to go with the K4 or K6 but if not I don't think paying twice the price for them is worth it, unless you'd really like adjusting grinds from the exterior too, that looks very satisfying to use instead of the grind settings inside under the burr itself.
      Whatever your decision might be hope you enjoy it ! :)

    • @poiisondn
      @poiisondn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KrazyShark Haha sadly no, I'm from Canada. With import fees and shipping, I can get the K1 slightly cheaper than from Amazon US. I've only been doing pour overs but whole bean seems so much cheaper than pre-ground coffee and I read that whole bean tastes a lot better too. I've started looking into local roasters as well so hopefully I can up the coffee game hahaha
      I like how Kingrinder's site states that K1 can do espresso and I also read on one blog review that it can do espresso. I'm not sure what single wall espresso means but all I understand is that espresso needs to be pressurized via espresso machine?
      I feel like it's either K1, K2, K4 or K6 for me.... and seeing that I'm totally new to whole bean, I think starting out with K1 might be the way to go. Not a big investment and not so big in size like a Baratza Encore while getting the most of grinding... rather than a cheap electric blade grinder.

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@poiisondn Definitely go with the K1 then, 100%. The workflow you get by using a handgrinder for filter coffee is actually really nice. I tend to just boil my water and while it's boiling get everything ready so cup, v60, server, paper filter and grind my coffee in the mean time. It is much much much better and way tastier cups that you'll get grinding good beans by yourself and finding a recipe that you like.
      The K1 isn't lying however, it can do espresso, just like my C3 can do espresso but they were not made and built for espresso specifically, meaning that pressurized basket espresso (basically instead of having multiple holes at the bottom of the basket, there's only a single one which is what creates the pressure for espresso in this case so that the quality and precision of your grind won't matter too much) are totally possible with these grinders, but more desired non-pressurized espresso shots are much harder to get correctly because the grind size here matters a lot since it's your puck of coffee that will create resistance and so pressure for proper extraction.
      But don't worry there's a lot of stuff in the world of coffee to know about, take your time and learn step by step. Getting a handgrinder and learning pourover is kind of how I started and it's been great with the hand grinder.

    • @poiisondn
      @poiisondn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KrazyShark Okay I had to look this up and read LOL. I didn't even know espressos had pressurized vs non-pressurized differences. Gosh I should just buy 1 grinder like the K6 and call it done forever HAHAHA that's how it works right?
      Buy it for life!

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@poiisondn The K6 could easily be an endgame handgrinder :P that's for sure. I have never tried it unfortunately, there's an awesome video from Lance Hedrick where he compares many hand grinders including the K6 and for the value it's probably one of the best out there.
      Handgrinding for espresso however haha, that's a different story. I don't know how easier it would be on the K6 but I struggle a lot on my C3 so that's why I'm buying an electric grinder instead and keep the handgrinding for filter :p

    after buying this grinder, shall we have to clean the grinder using hot water?

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most burr grinders are made of steel so using water is generally not recommended to avoid rust.
      What i typically do is disassemble everything and give every pieces a gentle rub with a paper towel or cloth and also use the included brush or any other gentle brushes you have to scrub the coffee particles away. Same goes for the inside of the body, just use paper towel or cloth and use your finger or the other side of the brush to clean the inside. If you want you can use a bit of water to make the paper towel or cloth a bit damp but you really want everything to be dry when you're finished.
      In order to avoid having to clean it a lot i also do the Ross Droplet Technique which basically is spraying some water on your coffee beans or stir them with a wet stick so that the static is less pronounced after you grind. And then again after grinding and while i'm brewing coffee i use the included brush to clean the burr a bit.
      Hope that helps :) i may do a cleaning video some time that could be an idea.

Mine is a Miroco branded one that I found on Amazon DE but I see it on Walmart as well for 56$ and some suspiciously similar model from Airyoyo on Amazon US for 79$. I'm not sure where you're from but if you're in the US those are your options for my kettle which has hold on pretty well for now but unfortunately I can't find it anywhere on Amazon Europe nowadays. So i believe this has around 24-25 clicks ?
      Because from 1 to 6 it's not useable at all since the burr will be too close and could potentially be damaged.
      From 7 to 10 i'd say is the espresso range which is really really small. From 10 to 16 would be the pour over or aeropress range i think. Then 17 to 24-25 would be coarse for methods like the french press and cold brew. After 25 i think it becomes way too coarse / big for anything.
      I usually go between 10 and 13 for my pourover, it all depends on the kind of coffee (country, type, roast level etc.).

      Mhh, that's a good question actually. I believe the Picopresso uses a naked portafilter compared to the Nanopresso's safer pressurized portafilter so grind size and adjustability will be pretty important for it. Unfortunately this only has 2-3 espresso clicks adjustments out of the box so finetuning and dialing espresso will be quite the struggle. It does grind very fine don't get me wrong but i'm not sure it'll perform the best with the Picopresso or just any non pressurized espresso due to the limited clicks available but since i don't really do espresso (yet) or ever used the Picopresso i can't 100% tell.
      One that comes to mind for that job however would be the Normcore V2. Kyle Roswell did a very nice hand grinder comparison too if you want more options.

    why did you stir the beans after you weighed them?

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's to avoid static while you're grinding your beans that way the ground coffee just falls down without sticking to the underside of the burr which is extremely messy. It's called the Ross Droplet Technique and people do this in different ways : Some use a wet stick like wet the handle of a spoon and stir the beans with it like me while others use a small spray of mist to get them wet. I have a small video about it if you wanna take a look : th-cam.com/video/8H4o9A3u5LA/w-d-xo.html at 1:23 you can see how much coffee stuck under the grinder while at 4:57 using the RDT it's completely clean.

      And build quality

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      C3 will definitely struggle for your needs with a Flair Pro in the way that it doesn't have many adjustable clicks for espresso shots.
      I think the C3 and the C2 were thought more towards filter coffee and maybe pressurized portafilter espressos and other methods but for the Flair Pro you definitely need something well a bit more pro.
      Mind you i haven't touched the (non-pressurized) espresso world yet but the Q2 has a lot more clicks to dial your espresso so i'd go with that.
      Now there's a weird thing about the Q2 as in there's two versions of it with two different burr sets inside: one with a heptagonal (seven core) burr that is apparently great for espresso which you can see in Kyle Rowsell's video titled "The Best $100 Hand Grinder? 1ZPRESSO Q2 Hand Grinder (Heptagonal)" and you can see what that burr looks like at 2:45.
      The other burr is the one that has probably been used the most in all hand grinders cause it's mass produced in china and it's the one you find in the C2 as well. It's the one that looks more rounded compared to the very straight edges of the heptagonal version. That burr i don't really recommend either for espresso because it seems like the other burr sets will just do a way better job for espresso so if you're gonna get a Q2 might as well get the more expensive heptagonal version.
      The other one i would recommend if the price is good is the Normcore V2 which was also featured in Kyle Roswell's video titled "BEST COFFEE HAND GRINDER UNDER $350?!" but the price on Amazon and their official website can be very different so yeah it really depends. That video Kyle made is great to compare different hand grinders for espresso but yes the two that are definitely great for the price are the 1Zpresso Q2, the Q2 heptagonal (which is a tad more expensive usually) and the Normcore V2. Hope that helps and thanks for passing by :)

    For pressurized espressos, is this grinder good enough?

    • @KrazyShark
      @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For pressurized this grinds fine enough for it. Not many adjustments however but should be fine. Other alternatives would be the Timemore C2, Hero S01, the Normcore V1.1 and the Xeoleo with the burr similar to the Comandante's :)
      I unfortunately don't remember which ones have more espresso clicks but yeah from the top of my head those would do the trick. I believe the C2 has 10-14 so 4 clicks while the C3 only has 7-8 so 2 clicks. I however like the burr they are using inside more than the C2's. The Xeoleo using the Comandante style burr is very interesting but i don't see how many clicks are available. It's around the same price as the C3 so it's worth the look :)

I've read so far that they're similarly uniform but the C3 is slower with more clarity, the C2 faster with more sweetness and complexity due to different burrs. @KrazyShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zakariyabaker874 Having tried the C2's burr via the Hero S01 i really can't go back to it. I feel like the C3's burr just is a bit better overall, lots more clarity and flavor but i might be biased honestly, it's hard to tell. If you ever get the C3 i highly recommend it at 17-18 clicks and use those coarse methods i mentioned. For fine grinds however i still think the C3's burr would work but the main issue with the C3 is the lack of range / clicks you get so for fine tuning fine methods it's impossible compared to the C2 unless you hack it but i usually don't like fiddling around grinders. I wish i could get a Kingrinder K1/K2 and compare them to the Timemore C3 cause i think they're similarly priced and the burr in the Kingrinder looks pretty good. But i think overall if you go for either using James' method they should perform pretty similarly, with the C3 having a slightly better profile i feel like.
