    Nothing will ever be better then a BOTTOM SWEEPER JIG the original and best jig out there

      They are great jigs for sure! The original, and loyalty to that is honorable. But saying there will never be anything better is a bit much. Not trying to start an argument, just being honest though

    Love the channel this is an awesome video. I make my own Jigs and I supplier a friend of mine with a charter business in Rhode Island with quite a few Tog Jigs, we use a little bigger hook for green crabs, slightly smaller than a blue crab all about the tog fishing up there. I also make Jigs for porgies, and I’ve had great luck in Virginia with the croakers.
    Of course I use a lot of Mastad hooks, but I’m trying hard to switch over to victory hooks their maid in the USA.
    I miss Fishing, the CBBT I spent the majority of my life camping down in the Cape Charles area and Fishing the bridge and out of oyster. Really wish the croker bite was better. Those were some good times Awesome fish fries Hopefully one of these days I’ll get back down there..

    Elias is the first I actually watched using them. I did see John Skinner using them for Tautog. He was the first I watched using them for Drum and Sheephead. He is one of the best. Structure fishermen I have ever seen. Vertical jigging on structure he is tuff.

      I agree you did credit the same. I wasn’t saying you were taking credit cause you have been using them a while also. I give you number 2 on using for drum and sheephead.

    Because of your channel, my buddy and I are driving up to Chesapeake from Charleston SC this Friday. I’ve only ever used bottom sweepers or Bellair jigs myself and have never seen someone use a dropper rig until I came across your channel funny enough lol hope we run into you this weekend 🤙

      Hey man! I know today was not good for the bay. But this weekend looks good, especially Sunday! Hopefully you were able to stick around for the right conditions!?

    Dan Schafer (local guide), the inventor of Bottom Sweeper jigs and owner of Insomniac Charters out of Stone Harbor, NJ basically started our modern sheepshead fishery, jigging them specifically. Check out Robert Fields youtube video with him on sheeps sounds like it'll be right up your alley.

      Yes I know Dan. I spoke with him years ago when I discovered his jigs. They work great for sure!

    Hey Jesse nice video for sharing all informations to make own jigs . Maybe some day but I love Chong"s jigs so much and caught so many Sheeps with his innovative jigs . I was skeptical at first but they sure work and very high end quality . Support local ( yes) . Weather seems crappy with storm heading so good time to reorganize my equipments etc... Be safe and see you soon on the water .

    I like swing jigs a little more than the bottomsweeper / nc/ boxer head style jigs. They're more versatile. I can put any hook i want on them. I haven't noticed much of a difference in bite detection with the swing jigs vs the other styles.

    Maybe I will see you on the water. Unlikely since I hate that dang tunnel, but you never know. I use weighted worm hooks sometimes from my fresh water gear, they work too.

    • @SouthernReelsFishing

      They are fine jigs for sure! But in the end it all comes down to the fisherman. Fishing with what you believe in will always return better results. I'll just leave that there...

    Ain’t no way you were the first to do it, but maybe the first to post it on TH-cam… the jigs work, definitely worth pouring yourself if you use enough. But for the guys who fish solo it can’t be worth it. Unless you already have lead pouring stuff.

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know I wasn't the first, I mentioned that Elias turned me on to the concept, along with Skinners influence up north. But I can say that i fished with a lot of locals back then and none of them had even heard of jigs for sheeps. So I can with confidence that I was one of the first to apply it as a full time replacement for hand tied rigs. Especially considering there were no options for sale on the market for these type of jigs then.

    I've just recently switch over and really like them. I've spent a lot of time just feed tog, but now my hook up ratio is so much better with jigs. What different sizes do bring with you? Have you noticed if color really matters?

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually use from 1 0z to 3 0z for tog depending on the currents. No differrence in colors really.

    I make my own swing jigs which work better here, and I'm not spending 4$ per jig for bottom sweepers

    • @SouthernReelsFishing
      @SouthernReelsFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brother I hear you! That's why I make my own as well. I'm curious where you are located? I've looked at swing jigs, seems like they would offer a less rigid appearance to the fish... Yet also may lose bite detection?

    • @Bearacooter
      @Bearacooter ปีที่แล้ว

      @SouthernReelsFishing pensacola fl. They seem to allow the bait to have more movement while holding to the bottom. The problem with the bottom sweepers is the hook size, we have to use a tiny hook cause our fiddlers are and most of the sheep are under 18"

      His user name is cnc-works. If that doesn't work just search for Sheepshead jig molds and it should be in the results.

    Just wondering how do you fish for red drum with the sweeper jig and the bullet head jigs that you make?
