  • As a child, I was captivated by observing bird nests in my backyard, wondering how they were constructed so intricately and efficiently. This curiosity instilled in me a desire to explore exceptional talents that captivate people, akin to the fascination I felt as a child. In 2016, I was given an opportunity to work professionally with five project managers at Design and Construction BGSU, despite being a female student. This was an eye-opening experience for me, as I never expected to have equal opportunities in an industry that is predominantly male. However, I still questioned if construction was the right career path for me, given its outdated attitudes and the low percentage of women workers. Yet, I have come across numerous talented female construction workers who have changed how women in construction are perceived and are gradually breaking the misconception of male dominance. It is heartening to see the growth of women in the construction design industry in recent years. According to DOZR, as of 2020, women constitute 25% of the construction workforce, and 13% of construction companies are owned by women. Shree Nakade has been working as an Architect, Estimator, Design-Build Engineer in the construction Industry since 2012 She is also a member of the technical Institute of America. She received her Master’s in Construction Management from the Bowling Green state University of Ohio in 2018 and an Architecture Degree from IPS Academy School of Architecture in India. U.S. Currently, she is working on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Rehab project from the Virginia office. She worked on projects worth multimillions of dollars in Kenya and USA and India. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
