The fact that Chris threw himself into a pretty stressful & unfamiliar situation only to then go "I'll shoot a TH-cam video while I'm doing this as well. That won't make this even harder." ...legend.
Some people have no idea how incredibly impressive that is. He didn’t just play an entire set he didn’t know at all until the night before, he bloody nailed it.
If there's somebody who could pull it off, it would be Chris
I know how difficult that would have been, most people assume that if you play an instrument you can automatically just play anything at first attempt. Unless you've done it, you can't understand how demanding and impressive this performance is.
You absolutely smashed it mate ! Thank you so much 🫶🙏 What a blooming honour to share the stage with you 🫶
You and your band did a great job yourselves as well! Got to check out your music now, love what I heard in this video. And Chris did an amazing job, especially on such short notice, he was a great fit!
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar he really was 🫶
@ellesbailey loved your material in this video and will be listening to more 😎👍
Elles, went on to listen the album and its now on the play list. No disrespect but would have been happy with you headlining and JH supporting (regardless of his legendary status). 👍😎
@@ellesbaileyGreat set. Dig your music, love from the US!
Imagine being laid up in a hospital and having Chris Buck fill your shoes...
I'm not sure if I would feel better or worse knowing this because I feel like I would be out of a job after that haha
Exactly! Double whammy
He has his own band.
@Mars-mr3om I'm aware and I absolutely love Cardinal Black.
I think I'd just quit 😂 luckily Chris is a professional and respectful enough not to really show you up
This might be my favourite episode of Friday Fretworks.
It's when you're in the brown stuff you find out who your friends are, nice one for putting yourself out there to help a mate. Nailed it too!
Well said that man 🙌
Not many in the audience knew the "parts" either. So if your playing fit the song you got her through the gig. I am sure she appreciated your help. For what was asked, you did a damn fine job.
Bloody great job Chris. What a brilliant chalenge and you rose to the occasion. The 'Esquire sounded great.
That Esquire is a beauty as we say here in Canada your a good man to help out great job
Wow! I can not imagine in any way shape or form a way that I could do what you just did! Your musical capabilities are what are on showcase here! Your dedication and training has provided you the platform to be a virtuoso even when you are a backup performer. Quite simply put, very few artists could do this! You are a class act! 👏👏👏
can we take a moment to apprecaite the john oates of a mustache on that bass player. sweet lord it is furry gloriousness
Outrageously impressive Chris. To be able to do that on a whim last minute… your next level mate
I think it's fair to say you smashed it!
What a ride! Thanks for taking us along and sharing this. I had never heard Elles Bailey before and you my friend have just created a new fan! If her original guitarist is half as good as you, I bet they'll go far. She has a great voice and the band is tight and exciting to listen to. Always look forward to your videos and seeing what you're up to. God bless and rock on!
Bring backs memories of the Wrecking Crew. Musicians who played on everyone’s recordings by sight reading. You have that magical ability. Great to watch your talents on display Chris.
Tommy Tedesco was a teacher of mine at MIT when I did a GIT course.
Mr. Buck - I have the UTMOST admiration and respect for what you did here..
Firstly to answer a call of desperation from a colleague/fellow musician who had a majorly important performance in danger of falling through at the last minute speaks volumes about where your priorities and loyalties as a musician lie...
And secondly to go into it knowing that you'd be working without a net since the gig wasn't in your usual comfort zone/wheelhouse, with minimal preparation, in front of a LOT of people, knowing also that there were probably going to be some less than perfect moments, and yet STILL putting yourself and your reputation on the line for the cause in such a public forum is just so admirable to me...
For the record you did a stellar, stellar job but maybe even more importantly, you made Ms Bailey, her fans and a lot of other people extremely happy...(And gave Elles some added and welcomed exposure via your video as well!)...
Good on you mate, you saved the day and deserve every plaudit you ever receive...I tip my hat to you...Great work Chris!!
Many years ago, a friend asked me to cover for him to do a set of 15 or 16 songs that were all classic rock songs that I'd heard a thousand times. I had to learn 8 or 9 of them in 3 days. We pulled it off with minimal, recoverable screw ups, but that was arguably the most stressful gig I ever played before then and since. My hat's off to you, Chris. You are a consummate professional.
Chris buck… real musician 💪👌
Came at a good time, im playing electric guitar live for the first time tomorrow 😅 your experience is chilling me out, and killer playing as always
Nicely done Chris! Smashed it 👍🏼
Good on you mate, you're a good man Chris, and you definitely rose to the occasion for your friend, a friend indeed is the friend we need, I'm sure all the other members are counting their blessings that you honestly saved the day For them.
A man of integrity and professionalism that's for sure, thanks for sharing this experience with all of us out here, stay blessed and keep safe.
Man I admire this so much. I hate going into a gig with no rehearsal with the band I play in and since we've been playing together for about a year now, it always works out. But filling in for a different band with no rehearsal beforehand is a whole different beast! Major props, sounding killer too!
This band really sounds cool
Chris, mad respect!! I’m thinking you’re at the level of legendary session man Tom Bukavac, stepping in to this, and performing so well, with such grace and confidence, bringing the vibe the moment needed.
Lad did good 👌🎸Bottle tester that. Having sat in a couple of sessions and not being a natural ‘session guy’, I know that feeling. Times of sheer terror mixed with the ‘ ok a got this,’ moments along with the oh sh!t what key am I in again.. It’s the musical equivalent of walking a wire without a net. The adrenaline and pulling it out the bag at solo time is what gets you through.. I wouldn’t like to make a habit of it, unless it pays the rent. 😏 Brill tone and set Chris..It’s made me wanna check out more of Elles stuff, so well done on all counts 👏 👌🎸🤟
Well done Chris, great job! Some of what you said reminded me of this David Bowie quote that I always liked: “If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
That is maybe the most bass player looking bass player I've seen outside of a Goose show.
Thx for showing the cheat sheet. It's easy to assume on this side of the keyboard that y'all can just internalize all this stuff through your pores. Great to see the work that goes into it.
Best Friday fretworks yet. What an experience that must have been 😅
Hi Chris, you achieved it flawlessly, what a rich experience, now you have discover a new face of your talent, and I'm very glad that living in such a small country far away form the UK, I have the pleasure to watch and hear your talent, respects mate. Cheers.
Chris, you are a true working musician. I am very proud of you!
This comes from a fan and fellow musician. Greetings from Athens
Well done Chris. 'If you can do it there you can do it anywhere'. Pressure makes diamonds
That sunshine thing really rocked. Those ladies and Chris took me back to my youth. Not to mention that "Fleetwood Mac" backing from the drums and bass.
Damn!1st of all the guts in this guy(Chris Buck) to be that confident in oneself to take the gig in that short amount of time to play through the whole number of songs which was to be preformed and to look so cool and one with the band .....OHHH!!OHH!! my I would've pissed my pants on stage for sure no doubt about it. Chris Buck thanks for sharing this moment in your life and inspiring me and many others how wants to level up there guitar music. Thank you bro
Has she not said you just stepped in, nobody ever would have noticed. Fantastic job! That's called a pro!
Fantastic gig Chris, great playing! You could see the band and the crowd loved having you!
I would need at least one extra pair of trousers.
Chris, I keep coming back to this video cannot believe how good you sound .
I'm in awe definitely my inspiration Chris Buck I wish to be as half as good as you
Definitely!
That solo at 10:00 was superb.
Better yet, it's not all that out there, not flashy... just damn tasteful and restrained enough to fit.
Sometimes, if *every* song has a shining, demanding solo it can start to pull you out of the music.
Top job Chris! 😃👍 ….and, ooh I feel a supergroup coming on! I’d love to hear Chris & Joe Wilkins play together. Easily the best two guitarists I’ve had the pleasure to see play live in the last year. 👏👏👏
And get well soon Joe! 👍
Chris has never been a sideman, but would probably be one of the best. Incredible improviser and always melodic AF. I'm sure many would love it if he lent his services.
Not sure sideman is the correct term. Maybe team-player is nearer the mark. The fit and overall musicianship was exquisite. Great musicianship serves the whole. This did that, in spades.
@@roberts6053 it was the term he used, which is why I used it.
Just amazing! I think he even surprised the singer! You’d think he’d played for years with that band, and yet seeming made-up on the spot solos fitted beautifully, yet retained that where did that come from element we’ve come to expect from Chris Buck. What an incredible talent.
awesome work, true professional! ✨😎✨
Impromptu gigs with others that know what they're doing are the best. And Chris certainly knows what he is doing!
Wow that was a little stressful. You did beyond great!
You crushed brother! Looked like you were having a blast.
Wow, very well done!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 You are ao talented, what you have accomplished is impressive, and very few people would be able to do this.
Clearly, she hit up the right dude for the gig. Way to go man. Sure sounded good.
Well done, sir! Well done indeed. Stepping out of our comfort zone makes us better players, listeners, and performers. I don't want to live there but I must say that overall I enjoy leaving my comfortable space for a bit.
Chris, playing and sound are amazing
I could listen to Chris change strings on repeat
Hallmark of a pro to be able to step in at such short notice respect
It's what you do Chris, and well done.
Amazing to see you jump in and do the sings justice!! Never in doubt really but still...... Less than 24 hrs!😮
Thanks for sharing the experience Chris!! That was fun and you certainly pulled it off!! Great job.
Chris you are a true professional. Very well done! FYI - I would not have known of the "klangers" had it not been your facial expression. From what I saw of this show on the video no one other than you and the Elles Band would not have known that you did not have a chance to rehearse had you not shared that info. Very well done. You are an inspiration!
GREAT guitar playing - your Telly works superb! ... Cheers from Austria!
What a great sound. Just nice Chris.
great story and performance....nice one
If you hadn't gone "oops" I wouldn't have noticed any mistakes. Great job.
Great tone from that Tele, and great playing. Respect.
You're a PRO, you're EXPECTED to be able to do such ad hoc gigs!
I have & I am NOT on your level Chris! Rockin'! \m/
So cool. Talent and Versatility. Impressive.
Chris this was really insightful. Not many will have this experience. Sounded great!
A friend in need is a friend indeed, well played brother you were friggin rockin it & they loved it,take a bow sir❤
GREAT job Chris, pure PRO !!!
So glad you shared this experience with all of us Chris! We all know what a great guitarist you are and this is just another example of how skilled and talented you really are my friend. For a band to call on you on such short notice shows their confidence in you. Looking forward to seeing more moments like this. Hope the other guitarist is feeling better too.
I knew if it was you stepping in, the gig would be flawless.
Amazing job. Managing to get ready and learn a whole set in so little time, well I have one word....Respect.
Those songs are bangin! Great work
Really enjoyed following your journey Chris. Absolutely smashing it there!
True professional Chris Great work!
WOW...impressive !!! Love your guitar mastery !
Chris you were perfect up there! Thanks for taking all of us watching with you. Btw, that gold top Revstar of yours would of been sick too. Match with the singers outfit.
True professional!
Two of my favourite people to listen to playing in the same band! I'd lose it if I turned up to see Elles and Chris also walked out on stage. Absolutely nailed it Chris, well in mate
You did an amazing job Chris! You are Way too hard on yourself as you definitely pulled it off making it look effortless! AND you had them Up and Dancing! A+
You did an awesome job Chris !!! Love you skill and your tone.
Thanks for sharing the experience! Very cool Friday Fretworks special.
So many thoughts ... but I was inspired to show this to my wife of now near 27 years who likes music but is not a musician ... I'm 56 but felt compelled to show this to her as an illustration of something I have aspired to my entire life. I'm not much for melodrama but admit when I tried to describe to her what I'd just seen, and why it mattered to me, I got choked up, Perhaps the allergies impacted the tear ducts in my eyes. As much as I thought that with a few weeks practice I might replicate a bit of what I'd just seen, mostly it was just inspiring to be a better player, a more sensitive player, and to be thankful that Chris Buck is here to share his gifts with us all. Thank you Chris.
Impressive Chris!! Tight solid band!!
I think this Chris guy has a future in music....
DAMN that playing is incredible..
Great job Sir, if you hadn't put the "Oops" on the screen I would not have caught a mistake there. Since I have never heard the song I wouldn't know anyway.
I thank you for introducing me to the "Ellis Bradley Band".
great job - and I really love the binding on that telecaster!
It makes me so happy to see and hear you play -- you nailed the gig, amazing job mate
I’m sure you appreciated the challenge of being thrown in the deep end and out of your comfort zone on this gig. You are more than skilled enough to jump into any band as a “fill in”!!
I’ve never heard of Elles but I like it what’s going on. I hope she appreciates the extra attention you have just directed her way. Realistically it wasn’t overly technical for a seasoned professional like yourself.
Thanks for putting this up. You’re a modern day session guitar legend. I’m sure Tom Bukovac & Guthrie Trap would appreciate the challenge you just through yourself into.
You’re a legend Chris…..
that feeling of perfoming and your soul takes over and flys :)
I've subbed a few times and can sort of relate although not in front of 10k people. If I was the guy in hospital I would be so bummed after I saw this 🙃... Great job.,,,, Elles also handled it real well and was very welcoming and a good front person.
I would be shitting bricks having to hit that stage with such little rehearsal... You smashed it! 🎸🎸
How do I even use the proper verbiage to express your level of talent? I will keep trying, I promise. You're simply a stunningly talented young man. Music is channeled through you like it was through Stevie Ray Vaughn. Your modesty is what brings it to another level.
We hope to see you in the USA before my government destroys everything that's beautiful, like music.
Absolutely amazing 😮👏🏻👏🏻🔥
Amazing!! Thanks for documenting this and sharing it with us :)
Honestly what's not to like about this guy? Get out of your comfort zone once and awhile..because this...this is why we play!
Chris your a F'n Legend Man!!!
Chris, YOU ARE A STAR !!!!!!!!
Congrats for the Radioshop t-shirt ;-)
I don't know how you do it. GREAT JOB!
10:48 absolute goosebumps Chris , perfect
I appreciate you helping out friends... great songs that were pulled off masterly
No reason to be concerned Chris - natural talent won the day. Brilliant performance.
Heard Elles talking about this on jazz fm, Damn Chris you done an amazing job, it would have taken me a week just to learn the first solo haha
