    I am an aromatic tobacco guy, there I said it. 80% or more of my daily leaf is aromatic, probably more like 95%. I'm not a fan of pepper or grasses (hay). So maybe that's why. As you know, my daily smoke is a blend, but primarily Sutliff's Sunset Rum. Mild and delicious. Being nicotine sensitive, I have specific tastes. My next venture into something new is Cults Blood Red Moon.

      @kytziaf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am not a fan of the hay smell or flavor either. I do like english and aromatics. I bought escudo and not a fan at all. I do like the smoky taste of latakia. I am exploring my taste a little at a time

      @Matthew Bentley i am going to age it, hopefully i will like it more then. I did like the h and h rustica. I tend to like darker and richer flavors I believe. I have some but yet to try dark fired Kentucky.

      I smoke Cult Blood Red Moon in my Savinelli pipe as often as possible. It is in my opinion the best Cherry Aromatic that you can find. Awesome room note! If you decide to buy a tin of this tobacco, go ahead and purchase at least two since they run out of stock of this so easily.

    • @samuellefischer9596
      @samuellefischer9596 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Have you tried Escudo, Elizabethan Mixture, Scottish Flake, or Orlik Golden Slices? These are VA or VaPer blends that have a little of the Hay note but are naturally so sweet and delicious my mouth is just watering talking about them

    Ordered some Arrowhead the other day and it’s wonderful. Thank you! It’s a great experience talking to a actual person to make a purchase and having that tobacco shipped from that little store from across the country. Love the community around fellow pipe smokers. Hope you have a great day!

    My gut feeling would be to offer the monthly packages with an option of pipe/no pipe. My thought is that it would lower the cost and also be more accessible to folks who already have racks filled with pipes. I know it’s a crime to not always want a new pipe, but I admit I’m awfully content with my collection at the moment. Perhaps people would turn out for a new pipe month after month. I would say some of us might be more interested in your curated selection of seasonal, monthly smokes. Come to think of it…I could use a few more cobs though….

    • @TheGavrael
      @TheGavrael 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree with this. As much as I’d love a new pipe each month, the cost would be prohibitive. The idea of seasonal “curated tobacco selections” would be great, though, and I’d happily jump on board

    • @sethmatherne7012
      @sethmatherne7012 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed

    • @basaindon
      @basaindon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The no pipe option would be sort of a CSA for pipe tobacco. I don't know that I would do it, but a "tobacco of the month" subscription could be fun. Some channels obviously already run a monthly tasting / blend club series, but a surprise blend in the mail every month would be an interesting twist.

    Glad to see you are back in form; love your videos. You are a wise man on the discussion of the aromatics, For those who feel a bit too pretentious to be open minded enough to indulge in aromatics, man they are truly missing out on a wonderful experience. Most of the blends you named are personal favorites of mine as well. Good minds think alike, my friend. Best wishes for the resurgence of your business. I'm sure I will be looking to what happenings with that over the next few months. Thanks for your contribution, most appreciated by all.

    Good morning sir! I wholeheartedly agree with you on autumn evening, it has to be my most favourite aromatic tobacco. However, I can't smoke it at the moment because I live in an old Japanese house, in Japan, and the heat and humidity make smoking aromatics a bit difficult, at least for me. I stick to my cool smoking morning English blends in the summer as they're lighter on the pallette. I am very excited for the shop reopen and I will be doing my best to secure one or two of them packs you are talking about. Enjoy the mountains, may God bless you and your family.

    Excellent recommendations. I go through lots and lots of Old Toby (more than any other blend). I also bought a pound of Apricots & Cream almost two years ago on your recommendation and it still smokes just as beautifully as the day I bought it. They're truly dessert in a pipe, just delicious. I know it's been a while since this video went up, but I'd be thrilled to see your shop up & running again - and I'd be all in for monthly pipe tobacco packages.

    100% agree on Autumn Evening. That’s my favorite pipe tobacco of all time besides C&D riverboat gambler and Nightcap. Autumn Evening is one of the few aromatics that actually tastes like it smells. Delicious maple and hay flavor for me that is just amazing.

      I liked Autumn Evening, but it was a bit too sweet for me. I found that Lane 1Q has a similar typing profile, but was much more pulled back. You got the same tastes, just a little less of them and more of the tobacco.

    Always a well done presentation.
    I've been enjoying smoking pipes since high school 1976. I mostly use my Turkish meerschaums because of all thier wonderful properties cool smoking, No Ghosting from blend to blends. I even put that claim to the test on many occasions. From smoking my favorite Pirate Cake (heavy 75%Latakia) the directly after have a light fruity aromatic. No Ghosting at all. I tried that same test with Corn cup pipes Missouri Meerschaum brand to be specific. Almost no Ghosting at a 10th. of the price of my real Meerschaums.
    I only mention this, Long Drawn Out supposed to be short message.
    Because of you and your example/recommendation. Thank you for all your posts. I find them very well done and entertaining.

    I am fairly new to your channel but I’m so glad to be here . AsI’m getting older, I find myself reflecting on points of my childhood, more and more. The one constant of my childhood mind you I grew up with my grandfather is the wonderful smell of his pipe tobacco. from what I can recall his go to was that little red foil pouch of Prince Albert. From my light research, I have found that that particular brand is considered a table scraps, or floor sweepings,but it holds a fond memory for me. Could you make some content on the different tobacco and tobacco blends our grandfathers and their fathers might have had in their pipes years ago, and if they have changed in modern times. You might have already clarified this topic and I have not simply found that video so I apologize..

    Definitely agree with Autumn Evening. Absolutely delicious! Another aromatic that I make sure to keep plenty of is a cherry and vanilla blend by Missouri Meerschaum - GREAT DANE! it is blended by Mr. Russ Ouellette, and consists of cavendish, virginias, and white burley. No goop or chemical after taste, and you can actually taste the tobacco. I found that Cult Red Moon has mixed reviews, while Great Dane has consistent positive reviews. Just lovely.

    Set up two product lines: Monthly tobacco kits that moves with holiday tobacco themes in that month (birthdays of famous grower founders, "150th" anniversary of pipe company, deep research, not just the typical calendar holidays) and a quarterly full pipe-kit that includes the pipes and two tobacco tins that are not in the monthly offerings. Your prior pipe kit sales were likely new smokers getting started so the kit appealed to them (thus keep an ongoing 'starter set' kit).

    I'm a long time pipe smoker, and have revised my opinions of many things in that realm. I now enjoy aromatics occasionally. I also keep one or two "codger blends" around in tins (Prince Albert, Carter Hall for example). I am much less of a snob than I used to be. Pipe tobacco is a big and wonderful world. BTW, I'm also a Yankee descended from a Southern family. We're all good! I enjoy your accent and love the South as much as I love the North (Boston area).

    Alan, I just got back into pipe smoking. I love your videos. I smoked a cigar or two a week for years, and had to have more mild cigars. Pipe and cigar aficionados on youtube mostly point folks to heavier blends. I just don't enjoy too much strength in anything I smoke. So my advice is to be clear on the strength of the tobacco. I loved this video and will buy your recommendation as soon as the pipe cottage is back up. For my money, carter hall is a pretty good beginner blend and I have stock piled Quiet Nights because I love it. Also, I think Vauen pipes are fantastic. Maybe you could expound on those at some point.

    Thank you for this video. I have not tried any of these blends but apricots and creme sounds good so does the cult. one of my grandmothers would make apricot jam every year she would make French toast put the jam on it then whipped cream ooh soo good! I have kept this tradition alive and make it for my children and grandchildren and I always have some apricot brandy on hand all though not much libation for me. Speaking of Jm Boswells Black cherry, apple strudel vanilla creme and the mild English are or have been tasty. And I just ordered some rum river. I mostly smoke Virginias, but I like a bowl of aromatic after dinner sort of a desert smoke. Looking forward to your seasonal packages. Thanks again and take care.

    I think a quarterly themed release would give you better leverage on supply chain issues that might crop up. You could release a batch of them each month so people that missed out can get their hands on one. It gives you the opportunity to scale either way. If demand is there you can scale up. If demand isn't you have the quarter to sell through it.

    Great video as always. Loved the setting for today's video. I really like the idea of a seasonal or even monthly package concept. I think it could be a differentiator in the marketplace.

    Been smoking pipes for 10 years or so. I started with English blends and then ventured into balkan, Va-Pers, and then into Virginias. This last year I finally got into trying aromatics ( opposite path into pipe tobacco than what many have taken; many start with aromatics rather than leave them for last). I have smoked 10-12 aromatic blends thus far. With the exception of Autumn Evening from C&D- which I quite like- I have not liked aromatics. I am glad that producers make aromatics for those who like them, but give me a full english blend any day. Your mentioned frog morton on the town- that was an amazing blend to be sure.

    I am enjoying your channel. I first thought you were a South Carolinian. My 7x great grandfather was a pioneer and settler who improved and settled land in Kentucky. I am just recently coming to this knowledge.His name was John Sellers and there is still a creek/stream called Sellers Run where he initially improved land. He was later taken prisoner at Ruddels station during the Revolutionary war. He was able to escape quickly which is surprising considering Ruddels Station was sieges by estimates of 600-1k Indians along with a single British officer.
    Also, could not agree more on No Bite Delight. I love pretty much all of Boswell’s aromatics.

    I like your list! I'm still relatively new to pipes but I've enjoyed some of Russ' Blends: Fudge cake, Scotty anglers dream, walking stick, Bing cherry. I also really like country squire hunting creek. I haven't tried most of your list but I'm curious to see how they taste!

    I think pairings would be nice for a monthly pack. I enjoy pistachio and other nuts with certain blends. Dark chocolate or cookies offset high nicotine blends nicely. Sparkling mineral water seems to enhance blends with Latakia. Coffees and aromatics. Plus you benefit from the seasons. A subscription for a year-long pack of the month would be a wonderful gift.

    I have been smoking a pipe for about a year and also would recommend Cult Blood red moon. It's made in Denmark by S.T.G. I also recommend Ashton's Smooth Sailing for a nice, cherry/chocolate blend. I will be sampling some the other tobacco's you mentioned...thanks!

    I love the package idea! I would totally do that. Maybe make one geared towards the beginner that’s not so expensive and mild tobacco.

    Nicely done Alan! The bulk of the blends I enjoy are non-aromatic, but there are plenty of good aromatic blends I like as well. Black Gold (rumored to possibly be Lane BCA?) and Black Gold+ from Hiland Cigars are both top of the heap for me. Lane 1Q is a classic Vanilla blend that many pipe smokers have enjoyed through the years. I'm a big fan of Tinderbox Reserve 1928 as well, though I don't think it is available anymore, having been blended by McClelland. Another unfortunate loss due to McClelland ceasing production was Frog Morton Cellar...what a fine English/Aromatic it was! Luxury Twist Flake by Peter Stokkebye is a great light aromatic. And of course there are many classic "Over The Counter" blends that are aromatics, though usually people tend to classify them as OTCs rather than Aromatics in my experience...Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, Condor, St. Bruno, etc.

    I like aromatic blends a lot, but I find them hard to get in a good quality. The pouch scent is always nice, but they often taste like a cigarette with something in it. And I want it to be delicious, otherwise I don't need to smoke my pipe. Because, it's a special occasion for me when I smoke my pipe, and I want it to be all pleasant. There were two blends that I liked, and both are out of stock now. It were Peterson's Special Reserve 2013 and Holiday Season 2012. Since then, Peterson have gone into different ownership and the blends are unobtainium today. I'm going to try Autumn Evening, and I'm going to trust an all new beautiful pipe to it. Thank you for your recommendation, and have a very nice time.

    If you're ever vacationing near Raleigh NC you should visit Pipes By George. One of the best tobacconists I've visited in the last 5 years. Premium pipes and a variety of blends and brands. Also an aesthetically pleasing shop with an old timey feel.
