I recently got this MacBook Air in a trade. For what I use laptops for, this is good for me. While I ill say the display isn't the best, it's not the worst I ever seen. Overall, I am pleased with this.
I can agree with you on the display, but it runs so smoothly and runs like new tbh I don't care for all that extra blah, I even upgraded to Monterey on it. Got mine from BackMarket.

Nice video. I've owned several of that form factor (2010, 2012, 2015 2x). All 11.6" models. I love the portability, and the 2015 11.6" Air is still a good basic task machine. I did spring for i7 models in the 2012 and 2015 units, as it gave a little more oomph to some of the AV tasks that I was doing with them. The i5 is fine for most folks. 8G is a must. While 4G was available back then, the 4G models can struggle.

Just ReFormated a Early 2015 Macbook Air with 128 GB Flash Storage and 8 GB Ram.
MacOS used: Monterey
I updated, installed every app i wanted, including my indexing my entire Photo Library.
Then i thought about your upgrade:
I bought EaseUS To Do Backup, Cloned my drive to a Silicon Power 2TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD.
Bought the adapter ofcourse. Thanks for the attention to detail.
Popped off old 128 GB Flash Storage Drive, added the cloned NVME+Adapter and Voila!
Works like a charm.
I am now going to download all my photos and videos from my iCloud just because i can.

Im about to do the same to my sister in laws mac, and my wife's macbook air.
All we do is photo viewing, sending generated memories, and light word processing.

P.S. Don't sell the original ssd, you will need it for upgrading Monterey.

@@jackwiley1480 some ppl has freeze and restart problem after updated with other brand nvme ssd, the original ssd is in use for updating boot-rom to fix those problem

You’ll get a lot out of it!
Just make sure you upgrade the latest version of Mac OS before you swap the SSD. The firmware update requires the original SSD to update the bios before you upgrade it to Monterray.
Seems like the best MacBook for me. I got it for $427 so yeah, worth it for a MacBook as I'm a reseller and need to be able to list on the go and transfer photos easily between systems. AND I can install windows if I want. Great
I have one of these I bought used in 2019. Has the i7 and 8g ram. Still use it for field machine but it needs a new battery and I'd love to upgrade the storage. Was going to go the iFixit mac approved storage route but looks like this will save me quite a bit. Thank you sir!

Modded my 2015 MBA from 8gb ram to 16 gb ram. Next upgrade will be 4tb NVME, MagSafe USB-C mod and add on USB A to USB C adaptor - all on the way

I also use a 28" 4K monitor and I pickup a macbook air 2017 yesterday and the screen is the only thing that bothered me hahaha. I picked it up for $430 I'm outside the US so used goods here are a bit more expensive, but overall it's a nice purchase, the webcam and speakers are surprisingly very good.
Great minds think alike eh? 😂 I love my monitor and I’m content with 4K rather than 5K like other video editors. That’s still a great deal though considering the state of global electronics markets during chip and part shortages. Congrats on your purchase!
how is it at a 4k monitor? what refresh rate do you get?
It’s excellent. Still using it today. It’s 60hz if you use a DisplayPort 2.0 cable setup which is plenty.

You can grab a cheap 2015 MacBook Air on back market. I snagged a 2015 11in air for $200 but it was in fair condition. A little more gets you one in better condition. Not the best in terms of hardware but it runs the latest Max Os but windows 10 is much faster. For my needs it’s perfect.
Funny enough, that the 2015 has a way better screen, than my „more modern“ windows laptop (768px). Hope to get my Air 2017 soon :D
People knock the Unibody MacBook Air’s screen but it’s really good quality and has held up pretty well compared to most others.
@@ClipPlayTV Jup. I also don’t really care about „only“ 900p. I want a good laptop and with that price I get a better one, than my „more modern“ windows laptop… I checked the specs and I was able to program well with my laptop and so I should with the air. I also want to program with Xcode (Swift) and I hope it works pretty good. Games is something, I don’t really do on my laptops, so maybe Tabletop Sim, but that should work I guess. SC2 maybe not haha

Facebook Marketplace is garbage. People asking $500-$600 for their used Macbooks when you can go to Microcenter and get an older Macbook for $300.
I got a second hand early 2015 MacBook air about 3 years ago and I'm still using it. Just upgraded the ssd to 500gb and it runs like a dream for all my school work. The only thing I needed to fix about it was the battery about a year ago. It's awesome and I am going to use this thing until the day it dies on me

I know the new macbooks are really great.. but as a student, saving that extra few hundred dollars means a lot.

Did you ever do a detailed video or write up about how you copied the drive to SD card and then back to SSD? Also this video was perfect! My friend gave me his 2015 Air (he did NOT take care of it) and I’m in the process of cleaning it up and doing some upgrades. It’s been a fun project and I didn’t even think of dual booting until you mentioned!
I used CarbonCopyCloner to clone it to the volume!
Hey dude. What a video. Totally underrated. I am looking to pick up a MacBook for general usage as I have a great PC for my main tasks. My most resource heavy task would be using Photoshop. So it's come down to this, either the 2015 MacBook Air or the mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Which one would you suggest? I personally like the design of the 2012 MBP. I broke my macbook air 2017 last week 😓😭 by spilling water on it. Im really sad about it cause it was literally perfect for me. All the ports and magsafe literally saved me! I ended up having to buy the macbook air 2020

I think you can for the same price you can get your hands on a mid 2015 13 inch Macbook pro which has a better screen and better performance. But don't get me wrong the Macbook Air is good still.

Just ordered 2017 version from Mac of all Trades, biggest thing I need it for is editing in iMovie and then burning a DVD on external burner. I have a late 2019 27" mac, which the fan on it makes so much noise I have to wear headphones to edit. Tried support but no one can seem to solve it, had I waited a few more months I could have got the M1 iMac and not had this issue and save a lot of money! Anyway I hope it will do the job, paid 1/2 the cost of M1 basic laptop. Any comments are welcome, hopefully before return window expires since it was just ordered!

If it’s an older battery it’s not too bad, but with a new battery replacement which isn’t too hard, it should last you plenty through the day!

I have the MBP Early 2015 version 512gb ssd, i5 dual core 8gb ram handed down to me by my bro in law for free.
What's surprising is this 7 yr old laptop is only at 510/1000 charge cycles when I got it so the battery was still fine.
I just had it cleaned and repasted and it runs good enough for basic tasks (web browsing, emails, streaming netflix)
I'll also remove the anti glare film with alcohol to make the screen better. I love the hdmi port since it makes it flexible as a media source.

As much as I like reusing old tech, you will probably spend more money in the long term, as you’ll need to upgrade faster compared to a modern M1 MacBook. Definitely more of a holdover for college students until they can get a new one after graduation.

So I have the opportunity to purchase a 2015 i5 model for 150$ but the only caveat is that it’s 4gb of ram. Should I still go for it? I do a lot of excel work and use chrome tabs so idk if it’s worth it

I’m a Windows and Android user. I’ve always been. The only Apple devices I own are a couple of old ipods because they were the easiest way to get all my music into some of my previous cars. But now with Spotify and more powerfull processors in car entertainment systems these iPods became obsolete and are collecting dust unfortunately. I am however getting a little curious about what all the fuzz is about when it comes to Apple and Mac OS. Is it really that much better than Windows? So I’m thinking of buying one of these 2015 MacBook Airs. They seem to be the cheapest way to still get a pretty decent Mac OS experience. If I hate it I can probably sell it for what I paid for it. If I love it, who knows..?

If you get an OWC ssd you don’t need an adapter it’s plug and play. I also use grizzly thermal paste and thermal pads to keep my 2015 MacBook Air running cooler so it doesn’t throttle. Runs like a dream!

I caved picked up a 2017 for $350 and then a 512GB Samsung drive (apple one) for $60. Store everything I need. Hope they support it for a couple more years in software updates!

It depends on your use case, if you’re looking for a great all-around ultra book for average daily tasks(web browsing and writing documents) you can’t go wrong with one!

I actually did for quite some time!
The biggest thing that drove me to get a separate laptop was the division between work and school life.
These were the early days of what would become the video production company I run today. Projects were starting to intensify a little bit, and I still had some fairly difficult and involving college classes. I ended up in a situation where I would carry my giant Editing Laptop, and several drives with me and before I knew it, I had loaded my back up with weight.
So I decided to look for a MacBook that could be entirely dedicated to schoolwork so I could carry that around and not be tempted to also carry around creative work-related accessories. Kind of came down to the whole work life-balance thing.
Also, the MacBook Air was wayy lighter 😂
I really wished that i'm seeing this video before i bought the 2017 MBA 😆

M1 MacBook airs have gotten WAY cheaper and may be a better value if you decide to do anything creative-related
I’ve looked at m1 and they are around 700 Which was like brand new price at Costco so I might sit an wait for them to go down. Thanks
I recently bought the same MacBook Air with a faulty battery for 160€. Then I paid 60€ for a new battery. Now when I use the MBA unplugged it shuts down with around 20% battery left (used to be around 30%). I guess I still need to recalibrate it by completely draining and then charging the battery in one go.
I‘d highly recommend getting an M1 MB Air for just a slightly higher price - better display, better speakers, better battery life and especially a way faster processor. Also the OS is still supported and will be for some years to come. The Intel-MBAs are just obsolete, especially the ones with the old TN-panels (silver bezels).
HELLO, I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 16inch 512 gb 16gb ram, but I have got t-con issue where I get horizontal lines when I start using and I was told to change my display which is costing 600 dollars. my question is should I go for M2 MacBook Air or should I go for change in display. pls do help me out.

highly recommend getting more bang for your buck on a similarly priced windows machine. that being said the mac is obviously ...less weighty. So factor that in for how you live your life.
How long can we expect to keep software support from apple for them?
You won’t regret it when you own one and sure Big Sur will support it with the latest Monterey that just been releases.

MacBook Air 2017 is absolutely fast for 99,99% of users even nowadays. It even plays 4K videos without any delays and of course it can render them fast.
