My high school issued these to every student when I started freshman year. It was actually a fantastic daily use device and had incredibly good battery life. I would go 2-3 days without charging occasionally. It even had a better keyboard than my current 15” touchbar MacBook Pro. They were also incredibly durable and withstood heavy abuse. I’ve seen them bent, water damaged, shattered, and heavily dropped (like down flights of stairs) and continue to chug along. The only complaint I had was the absolutely terrible 1366x768 display which was disgusting even over half a decade ago.
The coolest damage I’ve seen is a shattered trackpad with a really cool triangular design that was totally smooth to the touch.
@Ibrahim Anser Same man. Except that ours are made by Acer. We actually found a workaround so we could play Fortnite and Rocket League on them but the teachers put a stop to it real quick

We have one of these in our laptop fleet. Because it has 4GB of RAM, it's been moved into the "spare/backup" pile -- but it's been quite the lifesaver when we've had to send employees home to WFH if they popped a positive on their covid test.
How was it a lifesaver with remote working if you only have one of those?
@@BilisNegra he said he has a laptop fleet so his company would send out multiple laptops that are different.
@@lewiedewymountaindewy But then, saying that the Air in particular "has been quite the lifesaver", is a bit an overstatement. Could have been the Air or whatever spare one they were to pick.
Id die if my job sent me to work from home using a laptop with 4 Gb of ram, my current laptop has 32.
Id rather buy them a new one with more ram if they don’t allow me to work using my own before using that lol xD.
Hope this will help

I had a school-issued 11" MacBook Air many years back. They were fine, though the function keys were ridiculously small, and the screen was barely HD resolution. While most schools believe Chromebooks are the way to go because they're cheaper and more locked down, these machines are still good enough for most students, since they can do web browsing AND more, like editing video for class video projects for example.
@iumpeces imagine how small
It would be with modern bezels
@iumpeces Yeah... they wouldn't though as that would canabalize Macbook sales. I'm happy with Apple offering devices that are fully optimized for their use cases.
Yeah I had one around year ago it was an ok machine for basic tasks
I still use my 2011 2GB Macbook Air 11inch now and again. I love its size and the keyboard is still one of the best - pretty tactile. Battery was one of the things I needed to change and bought mine for about $300 bucks about 6 years ago.
how can you use a 2gb computer in 2021?
@@aaronjoosepsepp why not? to each their own. what if he wanted to save a lot of his hard earned money instead of wasting it every year buying the latest ones and joining the bandwagon. I wish I was that frugal!
@@aaronjoosepsepp MacOS is highly optimized and consumes very less RAM. You can't really tell the difference until you open multiple tabs on Chrome.
@@meow2148 very true indeed. I myself own an early 2006 MacBook Pro that also has 2GB of RAM (like the OP) and runs Snow Leopard (and Tiger) fast. It does slow down when I open few tabs of FireFox legacy. Although I have triple booted it with Ubuntu MATE 18.04 32 bit (which I use on almost daily basis) on it to get the latest applications (like Zoom for online classes)
@@aaronjoosepsepp Lets just say if it didn't have an SSD it would be a completely different story :)

This little machine so reminds me of my own MacBook Air. I have the 2017 version of it, the last with the thicc bezels and the glowing Apple logo. It's happily streaming music in my living room all day. Keeps cool, doesn't crash. I just love it. 💓
Currently using one of these as my M1 air decided it didn't want to have a working screen anymore. This thing is a beast, its crazy that with such little ram it's able to handle all the browser tabs, documents, desktops, and displays I throw at it. It's also slightly embarrassing how much better the keyboard is compared to the M1 air (which cost 10x as much : /)
Bro literally my MacBook Pro M1 did the same thing last week that’s why I’m watching this 😂
I’m not fucking spending 700 euro or so to change the screen 🤡
8 I used windows all my life. Finally got one of these the exact same model the exact same year. And it's absolutely cool how most of the shit that this little guy does even the newer high end macbooks can't even do
I've got a mid-2013 one of these with 8GB of RAM! They are suprisingly usable and with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, you are able to use modern versions of MacOS on it.
Been loving how compact it was the 11" inch little boy. Brings back the old times where we can still carry a laptop around ~

I bought 3 MBA 11 2015 models. All had 8GB's of ram. I had bought a 4GB model but it wasn't really up for much. Just that little extra ram made all the difference. Plus the price. I paid from $85-$100 for each of them including shipping and tax. One needed a battery after a couple of months but they are so light! Better than working with my iPAd Air 5.
It is impressive how well the hardware for these holds up even today. Great job as always with the clean-up and testing. Your example is encouraging me to try changing the thermal paste in my old laptops (something not usually done at maintenance places here in Honduras, Central America).

I have one of these with 8gb of ram and it's still the king of web browsing and lighter tasks.
Great travel machine, upgradable SSD, I have found a working logic board for it and was able to swap it to 8GB / i7 SKU. If you don't mind the 720p display, it's a solid secondary laptop, with great battery life. Make sure you get the last one that came out (Early 2015)

I found one of these on marketplace with a nonfunctioning keyboard for $40. Good buy?
Just popped for a Macbook Air 11" i7 8gig with 256 drive ...gonna check the battery and replace if needed and upgrade to a terabyte. $343.24US and free delivery. And as a Mac user since the 80's, small is beautiful. I loved the Duo 210, 230 and the final amazing 2400C
Makes me wonder how capable will the current M1 be 10 years from now...
I still have an Early 2014 model of one of these that I got a while back as my first ever Macbook. It still works well, and I did a surprising amount of stuff on it, despite the 4GB RAM and the 128GB harddrive. It needs a new battery, though, which isn't hard to do.
I remember using one of these in school while my big one was getting fixed by the IT department. Damn those macs age really well.

I just came across your channel - good content. I own the last version of the 11" MBA, and still have 2 great use cases for it; 1) note taking during office meetings in conference rooms away from my office (my MBP is hooked up to a OWC dock, so not convenient to undock), and using OneNote for notes, and 2) when I used to travel to China for work pre-Covid, I used it as a "burner" laptop in the very likely event that spyware got dropped onto it.

I used to have one of those the 2012 base one. But it broke when some idiots on my school trew it out of the window.
It’s nice that these have upgradeable drives, but something I found the hard way on my 15 2015 MacBook Pro is that Apple will only update the efi if the device is using the drive it came with (not sure if it has to be the exact drive or just the correct model), so if you’re upgrading to a m.2, also keep the drive just in case for software updates down the line

"Wont be waste after a drive failure"

would be great to have removable drives, but comes at the cost of speed. Getting the same or similar speed on a removable drive, would cost a lot more....
@@adriensamuelraj1152 there is no speed difference between apple soldered ssd and m.2 slot nvme ssd

They gave me the macbook air 11 for work this year. Imo the resolution and screen size is waaaay to small for working. You cannot simply open 2 word documents with revisions that letters became pixel lines. My device has thunderbolt broken so no external monito, pain for my eyes :(.
On the other side for the device being so old and small the performances are simply outstanding.

So I can guess - very usable. I upgraded to M1 Air this year and left mine old MBP 13" Retina running as Plex server for home video. I can say, I didn't even had an urge to upgrade like for everyday tasks (except gaming) it worked just fine.
