    Finally you’re back, before getting my Mark 7 Golf R I watched all your videos and I know so much about my car now, thanks a lot mate helped me a lot with my new car, all the bits and bats you’d never know like the storage compartments on the driver and passenger seat, plus how to move the arm rest, you truly have helped me a lot and before getting my car which I’ve had for 2 months now I know so much about it and it would never be possible without your help thanks a lot and keep up the good work and do make regular videos we miss you!

    Just got home checked notification said jaykay has uploaded video 😊 nice to see you back your videos have helped me go about buying a 65 plate golf r dsg and now 4 months into ownership
    As for insurance out the 10 years I've been driving I've only stayed with insurance companies maybe twice, but as I've got older the price has settled and been able to stay with a company. Golf r for me was one of the cheapest performance cars to insure, s3 astra vxr, focus st, BMW 335d/530d just some of the cars I looked at and all between £200-£600 more a year
    I need to chase insurance for my moped as im now paying double what I used to and can get it for quarter of the price elsewhere

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s good to be back mate. I’m glad I managed to help you choose. How many miles have you done in your R? It’s interesting that you found the R cheaper to insure than a focus st. Very interesting that! I take it you live in London then with you owninga moped?

      @@jaykay7932 yeah pal soon as I bought the car I had a good idea where everything is, bought the car with 15700 on the clocks in April its now got 19500 on it. Does what I need it to perfectly runs to work doesnt eat wallet when doing shopping runs and had a few blasts on country roads just awesome
      I did fancy a focus st3 2015 face-lift well kitted out but the golf wasn't that much more expensive and £200 cheaper on the insurance, I'm guessing its the safety features that made the difference? I'm from Hull when I changed jobs couple of years ago needed some sort of transport to work, actually nice bit of fun in the sun on way to work
      Be interesting to see if you do any drives out I'm planning next year to head to mach loop in North wales

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats good mate. I hated it when i took my R home and had no idea how anything worked. I then tried to read the manual and i was too impatient and just wanted to be out in the car lol. One drive a few of my petrol head friends reckon needs doing is the north coast 500 in Scotland. One did it for his 40th bday in a leased 911 but i reckon thatd be fun in the R

    • @gaznelson8615
      @gaznelson8615 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaykay7932 yeah it helps knowing so when you get in car got an idea, picked mine up from Birmingham was able to talk my partner through certain stuff on way home and show her some of the features.
      A work mate did that in Scotland on his bike I need to speak with him see how he got on but should be ace in the R, I'm planning on going stage 1 at some point it's only a software update transforms the car from what I've been told and with it dsg won't impact on reliability aswell

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah stage 1 is mad! It's as cheap as 800 (if you go the plug and play route) and you get 355bhp and a lot more torques! I'll do the same when I get chance. I think i'll give the plug and play mod a go first then there is a revo shop near me i think. It is so weird how much of a boost you get from Stage 1 yet stage 2 is expensive and you hardly get anything

    Great to see you back mate. Been a long wait!!! In my experience you have to shop around takes days & days but best way to save money. Luckily I have been with Sky car insurance for a few years who always come lower than any other quote I get. Also what doesn't help is as live in between Wolverhampton & Birmingham and postcode makes a huge difference. My sister lives in Littleover, Derbyshire and when quoted on her postcode would save around £250 a year.

    • @manjbains1977
      @manjbains1977 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jay Kay I sold my Audi in March as tax went to £555 and insurance £600 and decided to save the money. But then I needed a car as was hard to share with Mrs and dad as they need there cars. So couple of months later found a rare R32 with low tax band, Wing Back seats, sunroof, dsg and only 34k with full history plus 2 owners. lady owner who sold it had it for 10 years and in her 50's. Also was lucky as only 40 mins away in a village. But now left hip is killing me with right knee too, only done 100 miles since May. Got Pandora alarm system too with anti hijack as too many cars getting stolen.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry to hear about your uhip and knee mate. Is that arthritis? What’s the r32 like on fuel? It sounds like you got a cracking car there! I don’t blame you for getting rid of that car at nearly £600 tax!

    • @manjbains1977

      Jay Kay cartilage torn in right knee. Cancelled operation a few years ago due to my mum's alzheimer's. Hip got no time for xray or mri as mum is at advanced stage now and needs 24/7 care. Little 2 year old fell of the lounge table only 2 foot high and fractured her arm. Needed surgery in plaster now. Been so busy with them too and house work. Was looking at a Golf R as had the funds but thought a bit risky as not working and looking after mum only get £46 a week now on the DWP new carer scheme as Mrs works 25 hours. Plus dad wants to do some renovations around the house. When I went to get a few bits done at Midland VW in Cannock got 30 mpg on the trip on the motorway and normal roads. But when putting foot down a bit then you could see it going down. But I am that age now where you just want to chill and cruise. How come job change now? Loads of Golf R's on the road now plenty of this stupid lease scheme. Waste of time in my eyes

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blimey you have a lot on your plate then mate! Youre right about wanting to chillout at out age. I really enjoy doing long distance in my landcruiser as the airsupsension is so smooth and i dont have to worry about pot holes! The job change has come about because although i make good money with my job now, I dont have a pension. I met a few men recently who work as engineers for public infrastructure projects. One was 21 years old and he is on 120k a year!!! But also they were on a very generous pension scheme. I met a guy on this scheme recently who is about to retire. He gets 38k a year from his national grid pension (he left them when he was 55) and since he has left NG he has been working for Conica (i think he said) on 36k a year. Now he is about to retire with that pension too. He was on a nice number lol so id like to be in the same boat by that age!

    You’re wasting your breath questioning the plebs in the call centre who answer the phones. They haven’t got a notion how it’s calculated. Ask to speak to an underwriter. I worked in the IT department for a large insurance company for a few years and the systems take basic data and crunch the numbers. The underwriters have a discretion they can factor in.

I spoke to several people recently who have top pensions and now realise getting a job with a good pension is the way to go! So looking to get into public infrastructure now as an engineer. If the house build begins first though then il be stuck with this job a bit so I can continue bringing decent money in to pay the way

    • @charlie5273
      @charlie5273 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay Kay yeah mate I’m only 20, only been on the roads 3 years so it is going down for me, and yeah infrastructure is a very decent career to be in, I’m shocked that your trade doesn’t offer a pension?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The company I work for is too small to offer any form of pension. But say I get a job at rock star or Sony I’d be in similar money but with a pension. But the pension you get in engineering is bullet proof. As it’s the final salary pension scheme. Very few jobs offer it now but it’s a bullet proof which beats inflation. In fact I don’t think all engineers get this pension now as it’s being phased out

    Good to have you back mate. Be good to share your house building and do some general real life vlog stuff from time to time. I agree with the insurance, I was pissed off this year when mine was up for renewal. Some twat reversed into me and they told me I couldn't take my car to a main dealer and I had to use one of their recommended garages who pissed me around and had to redo the job. I've since found out that is a load of Crap, and it was my right to take it where I wanted, the reason they do this is it's cheaper for them. I haven't had an accident that was my fault the whole time I've been driving, touch wood, but my premiums are going up as if I have?? Doesn't make sense.

      Glad to be back mate! I’ve never thought about doing real life vlog stuff but it’s an idea! I’d certainly vlog the house build. Ahh night mare and the thing is even though it’s not your fault it will go as a mark against your no claims bonus as well. It’s a bent game I hate insurance companies. They try to screw you over at every opportunity. Was it an I identified driver that damaged your car?

      Jay Kay Yeah would be good to see the house build when you start it mate. The woman pulled out from a junction realised she was going yo get smashed into and decided to reverse into me instead. She admitted full liability so would my no claims still be affected as I wasn't aware of this?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah man that is shit. What car were you driving?? Im not sure to be honest. I know that whilst being investigated youre treated as if you are at fault and they put a marker against your policy. That in itself is bollocks but there you go. I know when answering questions on comparison sites they ask if youve made a claim regardless of fault in the last 5 years.

The good thing about APR tune is once you have had it done you own the software so if you need to go to your main dealer with an issue they will flash it back to standard, then when you've finished at the (main stealers) they will flash the ARP software back on for £20.

    • @rocco02121
      @rocco02121 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The R’s are stolen so frequently because they are easy for thieving burglars to drive fast and the cops have no chance of catching them. They use them as getaway vehicles for further offences and dump them when they are finished. Its a tool of their trade and they are absolute magnets for the wrong sort of attention. Thats why insuring them is a joke. And the cops hate burglars as much as the next person, probably more. I’d say it took some guts for the cops to chase that stolen blue R up north at 100mph then plough into the side of it to stop it driving down the motorway the wrong way. Just not enough of them trained or equipped to do it.

    I remember, my mk6 golf broke down, temporarily got a crappy old corsa to get me by.. Finally bought a new golf 2 months later mk7 2.0 diesel.. Admiral tried charging me 120 a month, citing that stepping up from 1.0 to 2.0 is a big change.. I cancelled the insurance.. Went back onto compare the market.. Through admiral less than 700 pound a year at the time. They try to Rob you honestly.. A lot of cars made within the last few years are cheap to insure because of the safety features they have. I'm looking at a 3.0 bmw now, compare the market is only around 500 a year. Crazy.

    Im 22 and have been driving for about 5 years and my insurance has gone down every year despite having someone hit into me last year. Even before the RTA was settled my insurance went down. In my experience whenever I try to renew with the same company they try to rip me off and give me outrageous quotes so I use Compare The Market or Confused.com. If im not happy I ring some companies not comparison websites like Aviva and Direct Line. E.g. I was quoted about £1.5k for a 2018 BMW 1 series from comparison webistes but Aviva qouted me just over £1k

      SocksInAHat never use those comparison sites. Aviva and direct line are the best although after one year you need to switch to the other as the other usually ends up cheaper, that’s what we have to do. Ones in aviva and one direct line then each year they switch to the opposite 😂

    Im with lv on my 67plate new golf se mk7.5 at £1495 with 1 years ncb. My first car was was vauxhall astra 1.3 with admiral and it was almost 3 grand for my first car then problems occured about 10 months in. I then went with vw diesel scrapping scheme and got 5 grand of brand new gold and my insurance admiral transfer it over to the new car and it went down from me paying almost 300 a month to about 250 for 2 months and then i went for a renewal quote at which they then put at £2000!! I then went go compare and found out LV was doing everything stated for only £1495. I then called admiral to cancel so they could then do their customer loyalty tactic at which they could ownly get it to £1600 in which then claimed LV could be hiding a few things to make it cheaper and i was like nope thats with everything including courtesy car and break down even tho vw gave me 1 year aa breack down cover. He then went "well lets see what we can do to make it cheaper" in which he started to remove stuff like courtsey car, breakdown,legal cover, mileage and even the value of my car! I was pissed i have this car on finance and your telling me to drop the value of my car yet another company is offering cheaper quotes with same market value im payong for the car. I told him to jog on.

    My annual car insurance went up this year (September renewal date) by 25%.... This after one of the new government's campaign promises was to lower Car insurance by 15%... I guess the insurance companies are proactively raising their rates 25% before the government mandates they lower it by 15% so they still get an average 5% increase :-(
    Pisses me off, the insurance companies know that they have you by the short and curlies because the government mandates that you have car insurance. Licence for them to rape your wallet.....

    Insurance companies like to make loads of money. So in the event of a massive surge in claims they can easily afford without the need to sell shares and or take out equity. This said, I totally agree that the car insurance costs are totally unfair and the insurance companies are legal sharks. I too have noticed my insurance shoot up. I’ve been driving for nearly 20 years and I am still paying £900 on a focus RS. I changed from a fiesta st as some of the quotes were 10k. When confronted they will already try their best to fob you off. My advice is go to the insurance onbuds man.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first sensible comment ive had. Once I calmed down I logged into my insurance account and saw that my NCB had lost a year during renewal. I rang them up yesterday about it. They took a look and found a error on renewal! It turned out their system thought that a claim was being made against me, that is why my premium shot up. I have now been offered a 150 refund. Why on earth did it take myself having to login and careful view and compare my renewal policy docs against the previous policy i dont know... However quite a lot of comments concerning drivers like us does show a sharp rise in premiums. I think this should be made a public issue for government intervention. Also there are FAR too amny 17 to 24 year old here driving Golf R's, Audi S3. RS3 and S5's... At their age i simply couldnt get insurance on any performance car, so i think them letting that age drive these cars is also to blaim

    • @powellj27
      @powellj27 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay Kay indeed that could be a factor in the insurance going up, however just reviewing the dash cam footage I have is enough to see the other cause. I’ve seen drivers going around roundabouts the wrong way and even try and enter the motorway the wrong way, also adding some drivers going at 30mph on a motor when the slip road is for acceleration. I’m pleased you got a refund. I had to change insurance companies to save £200 in a 12 month period. Also, I do agree when I was 17 I was driving a old banger with a 900cc engine, not to mention I had to do two jobs to afford it and spent most of my time driving to and from work.

Ridiculous!! My plan is if my premium rises next year and shopping around doesnt work then id sell my R and buy something small. I'll probably have to sell it anyway as i want to fund my house build with cash rather than mortgage

      Jay Kay indeed you do have to prioritise things. The RS for me is a fun car that I could never have when I was younger due to the cost, however mines not standard, so I’ve had to declare some mods. This said they are only to increase bhp. The insurance companies know you need insurance so they can get away with charging high premiums, However the government will not do anything towards the insurance companies as the more money they make the more money the government makes in taxes.

On a road like the one you’re on, I really wouldn’t expect cars to stay behind me.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With all due respect. The law is the law and the high way code rule explicitly states that overtaking a cyclist, horse rider or motorbike requires at least as much room as you’d give a car.
      Now central London cycling is far safer than a busy country road! Yes there are a lot of cycling deaths in LDN but that is down to lack of common sense on the cyclists part. Ie undertaking lorries in their blind sides when stood at traffic lights and junctions, lorry and bus then turns left (or right) thus crushing the cyclist! You have perfect road surfaces (not a single pothole) we’ll light streets and we’ll policed.
      I myself ride about 2k miles a year and hate cars overtaking me without a cars width. Most cars do overtake me correctly but it only takes one to knock you off! I average speeds of 20mph so need room as a margin of error.for example we were out the other day and one of our groups chain locked. Bike came from under him! If a car was squeezing past who knows what would’ve happened?? I’m not sure what sort of cyclist you are but a road cyclist needs a cars width!!
      Getting back to cars. It’s good you got your car back. Was that down to a tracking device? Or do you live in London so benefit from the extra policing I was talking about?

  • @contriteprinciple
    @contriteprinciple 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    By market factors, she means environmental factors. The cost of insurance is rising due to rising numbers of uninsured drivers/disqualified drivers and rising vehicle crime.
    They have a stranglehold because you’re legally required to have insurance, but the root cause of your problem is people who think it’s alright to drive uninsured or when they’re not in possession of a valid license. When they have a crash, the cost comes out of your pocket (in the form of insurance premiums), not theirs.
    Shop around for insurance, brand loyalty doesn’t exist anymore!

    Insurance is bloody pain, I boght a toyota corolla 2002, as my first car as its relible and cheap to run also was the cheapest car for insurance so I got lowest 2200 for year so I couldn't afford it then went to pay monthly payments and I payed 800 upfront and rest 150 a month for 11 months. And I feel the pain paying 150 a month its not easy sapecilly for me as a student working part time. That's why I always tell young people don't buy cars on fianance becaue if you are going to pay £250 to £350 a month for fianance and on top paying 100 to 200 pounds unsurnce, then they struggle paying within first 3 months. Also fianance isn't the best option just buy the car at least you own it.

  • @cawheeler27
    @cawheeler27 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s definitely not equivalent to stealing. I don’t know the UK market, but in the US we have loads of insurers. You can pretty easily shop around and get a much cheaper rate. There are huge differences between insurers. I looked through a dozen different insurers before making my choice, and there were multi hundred dollar per month differences between them. I ended up getting an excellent deal. If they try to screw me, I’ll just go somewhere else.
    At least in the US you only have to legally have liability coverage. Usually full coverage is only a requirement of the lender if you take out a car loan. In that sense, it’s a contract you’ve signed that forces you to have more expensive coverage, cause the lender doesn’t want to be out all of their money if you destroy the car.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So insurance is a legal requirement? I ask because every time I’ve rented a car in the states I’ve had choice of whether to use insurance or not and always opted out

    • @cawheeler27
      @cawheeler27 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With Rental cars, the rental company already insures the vehicle, they're the owners. You can purchase add'l insurance to protect you from civil liability, in case you are sued by someone you hit, but you don't have to buy it. At least domestically, a lot of insurance people have with their own car will also cover them in rental vehicles. But again, this extra insurance is actually primarily for protection against civil suits, not the loss of the vehicle.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree mate. I’ve had desirable cars my whole life and insurance has always been dirt cheap. Professional car thrives have always stolen cars to order. It’s nothing new. What’s new is the police now do nothing about it. Put it down to funding cuts. Either way unless your car has a tracker you can say bye bye to it. Even if it has tracker, you might get the car back but they still never catch the thieves. The question is how far does it go before things have to change. And why are the police not stopping these people. Go to a super casino and you will see these kinds of people walking around like they own the joint dropping huge words of cash in the tables. All they are dress in is track suits

    • @RR-fk7xc
      @RR-fk7xc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah . End of the day, they are taking money from our pockets simply because they can. Like you mentioned in your vid, we must have insurance to drive on the road. I think cuts is one of the biggest issues. Police always got the middle finger from the public and now from the government too. They are now cutting costs from the education industry, I know of a hard working secondary school teacher having to work night shifts in Tesco. Cuts to police mean we have officers who just don't care and cuts from teachers means there are going to be more teachers who will be disinterested in their job. That's just great. police officers not caring and even more thieves/ criminals/ uneducated desperate individuals out there. It's a downward spiral that the government don't realise that's gonna be detrimental to everyone.

      Sorry to hear that. It’ll go up a lot. The reason my insurance went up 60% is because the insurance software thought a claim was being made against me so I’d lost this current years NCB. I spotted the error and got a refund but if rose 60% for me

    If it makes you feel better, we have the same BS going on in the U.S. Of course there are many companies competing with each other making it possible to keep insurance costs reasonable, but you have to constantly shop around on a yearly basis. For whatever reason, insurance companies (particularly car insurance) don't give a crap about brand loyalty it seems..the longer you stay with a company the more they bend you over. It's as if they all want a constant stream of new customers and don't give a damn if you stay with them for years and years...even if you have a long record of no violations or claims. It's absolute insanity..

Ive been lucky for the last 11 years where my current provider has constantly not only provided the best price but provided the best price by a country mile! This year from the very quick comparisons i did get it was still the best price by £100 so that led to this rant video. Im not the only one though ive spoken to a few people on here where they too have had their premiums forced up even with shopping around. Its like energy prices; keep rising so the government tells us to shop around only that turns out to be bollocks as they all rise the prices together at the same time anyway. @@jaykay7932 not sure but if they are uk insurers they will use the same database as a whole and that car will be classed as high risk. If they are stolen frequently in england im sure it will be common in any country. Easy way to check if it's been effected by this is to see if its cheaper to insure left kept on the road not drive, not outside your house and in the street. Most cars are stolen from house break ins to get the keys first. If parked in the street its harder to no which house the keys are in thus been less risk.
