I enjoyed Scars of the Crucifix myself, especially the title track, but that album was a complete reinvention for the band. Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla upped the level of technicality and melody significantly, while Asheim as always was just the human metronome that kept everything focused and centered, while Benton's bass playing had more oomph in the mix than it had had in a long time, and his vocals were on fire! If you don't listen to "Homage For Satan" and think it's one of the best death metal songs you've ever heard you don't have ears. forget about labeling something as technical or not- these are my picks for 00-09. Almost put Behemoth on there but I think Dead Congregation is better, though far less known Immolation - Close to a World Below Obliteration - Nekropsalms Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate Meshuggah - Obzen Psycroptic - Scepter of the Ancients Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels Decapitated - Nihility Ulcerate - Everything is Fire Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal What's your list?
If we're talking Black Dahlia here, why not Job for a cowboy and especially The Faceless(i mean newer bands...) or classics like Obituary, Carcass, Napalm Death(Grind Death rules!)?Anyway, a lot of killer D.M. bands, old and new, hmmm very difficult to choose a few... \m/
I never thought he would say a word about decapitated. I love there new album and there old ones too, but nihility is my favorite song by them. I like nile more and eye of the ra is my favorite song by them.
What did they put out in the last 15 years of so that's essential though? They've only done like 3 albums. One was good, but pretty standard. One had a good single that was just one giant fake-out to get you to buy an Genitorturers album in disguise (a subpar one at that), and the new one is certainly a return to full on raging death metal and a better album than the previous one by many hundreds of miles...but the mix is garbage. Edit: I forgot Gateways, which is a really good album. Still not sure it's an ESSENTIAL album though
Prince Aligorna “Formulas Fatal To The Flesh,” & any album they did before that, & like you said, “Gateways Of Annihilation,” and “Heretic” isn’t horrible, but I’ll admit not up to par with older albums. All in all though Morbid Angel has a super solid catalogue.

I guess in this era they could be melodeath. I've also seen black metal. But I'm not sure about any of that. To me, they sound more like a power metal cum thrash outfit, and to me that's the definition of speed metal.
Have they done an undrrground tops yet?
So glad this show is back!!! =D
LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL \M/
lock horns back, bout damn time.
The album Forensic by Mortal Decay should’ve had a mention. Super underrated album, and their best imo.
Was Epitaph never even bought up? 2004 release. Solid album.
Sameer Gupta more like - the - mile stone of modern TechDeath. So yeah, there is your explanation, it is so obviously TechDeath that it did not got mentioned.
Exactly. Well worth the mention is what I thought. ;)
They did mention Epitaph (and so did people on chat, including myself) , they said it will be definetaly in next episode for Technical Death Metal 1:01:35
The trailer on thhe end ..gorgeous. can´t await it Cannibal Cam
Death Thrash Thanks man. A lot of blood and sweat so far. www.growlmovie.com to keep up with us. Much appreciated.
Bloodbath and cannibal corpse DAWN OF DEMISE IS KING
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Exhumed...!yes I remember now.
Blayne Smith falling at 38:20 is still my fav 🤣🤣
Canadian accent is Far Ouwt. Loving Lisa.
I love what you guys do and if I lived in Canada I would do anything I can to be apart of what you’re doing. Favorite thing to watch by far. What I would LOVE to know... is when the hell you guys stream live? It would be cool to comment during the debates every now and again. Jah feel?
Immolation also had amazing accentuation of the riffs with bob Vigna's high string dissonant chord accents
He also does a lot of up picking, which gives it a unique sound!
MALEVOLENT CREATION WITH OG VOCAL, BRET
Can we talk about the Bassist for Exhumed. He deserves mvp for playing without a strap.
The old bassist, and puking during shows also. Was awesome to see that live.
forget about labeling something as technical or not- these are my picks for 00-09. Almost put Behemoth on there but I think Dead Congregation is better, though far less known
Immolation - Close to a World Below
Obliteration - Nekropsalms
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate
Meshuggah - Obzen
Psycroptic - Scepter of the Ancients
Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels
Decapitated - Nihility
Ulcerate - Everything is Fire
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
What's your list?
DEAD CONGREGATION is fuckin amazing.
The fact that we have some glam metal guitar dude doing this episode is hilarious to me.
Where was Obituary Frozen in Time? No one suggested that? Crazy!!
I found Obituary lost it at Back "From The Dead".
Yo this dude's shorts
Wtf
Lmfao
He's got like a '70s or '80s 'party animal' vibe about him. It goes with the aesthetic tbh. Dude should be a movie character in my opinion.
Deathevocation? Behemoth?
CANNIBAL CORPSE!!!
Someone needs to be listening to the audio that is going out over youtube so who ever is scratching their microphone can be corrected!
We hear you. It's not scratching and when we were able to correct it a few minutes in!
At least you finally mentioned Portal :)
Had to, essential death metal I think.
That was a good episode but I was surprised aborted wasn't on the board. Also surprised that kill was chosen over wretched spawn.
Need a new Lock Horns!!!
Immolation
Kataklysm - Serenity In Fire
Decrepit Birth- Polarity
If we're talking Black Dahlia here, why not Job for a cowboy and especially The Faceless(i mean newer bands...) or classics like Obituary, Carcass, Napalm Death(Grind Death rules!)?Anyway, a lot of killer D.M. bands, old and new, hmmm very difficult to choose a few... \m/
I never thought he would say a word about decapitated. I love there new album and there old ones too, but nihility is my favorite song by them. I like nile more and eye of the ra is my favorite song by them.
What about Cephalic Carnage Xenosapien!
Cannibal cam is the best
love this, ver enjoyable, how about devourment ?
Butcher the Weak
Can't believe no one said Blood Incantation - Starspawn
Rain Without End ahh ok thanks for clarifying
One of the latest greats!!!
I can guarantee that will be on a ton of lists once 2020 rolls around.
Ashen Cold definitely. It’s legitimately one of the greatest and most forward thinking albums of all time
let's give it a few years to see if it stands the test of time
No Morbid Angel is PURE metal sacrilege.
Prince Aligorna
“Formulas Fatal To The Flesh,” & any album they did before that, & like you said, “Gateways Of Annihilation,” and “Heretic” isn’t horrible, but I’ll admit not up to par with older albums. All in all though Morbid Angel has a super solid catalogue.
Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines was 10x the album Black Seeds was... Shrines was a flawless album.
Damn!!! I was fuckin routing for Hate Eternal!!! I was screaming at the screen for Hate Eternal but glad to see Bolt Thrower and VADER made it.
