Directed by Jon Lambert (Noise Dosage Media)

It’s hard to summarize something that has molded the last few years of your life in a simple paragraph, especially a project that involves your greatest passions. For me, this is filmmaking and metal music.
Looking back to the beginning of this project, I recall laughing hysterically (which can be found in the bloopers at the end) with Nunslaughter’s Don of The Dead as well as a motivating trip to Cleveland, Ohio with a good friend named Victor, to attend a death metal show and film a conversation with both Sanguisugabogg and 200 Stab Wounds. We hopped in a rental car and began our journey by picking each other’s brains about topics we thought would be unique and informative to cover while cranking some obnoxiously loud tunes. After our conversation, we concluded that a documentary about the evolution, culture and stories regarding extreme music would be most significant. The night was filled with meeting up with friends I’ve made over the years being a part of the scene, learning curves in capturing cinematic footage, and multiple technical failures as this were something I’d never attempted before being strictly a concert photographer. Since that day I’ve been on a mission to present something refreshing to the scene in support of the bands that have made such a massive impact on me, both personally and through my podcast.
Over the course of time, this film’s purpose evolved in many ways. Our overall vision was to create a professionally edited and produced documentary film that would be informative and enjoyable for fans of extreme music all around the world to watch. Our hopes are to inspire creative minds to continue to start expressing themselves by using the advice given therein. We set out to discover a number of young bands that have been carrying the torch in regards to keeping this genre constantly growing and pushing boundaries while creating opportunities to pick the brains of the innovators who came before them. We wanted to create a well-rounded perspective on this style of music for new listeners with the hope that they might one day become fans themselves, or at least respect the style to some degree.
The main topics covered in this documentary involve deep dives into artists' pasts by discussing the initial spark that got them hooked on music, and the impact it has had on them as a person over the years. We divulge thoughts on diehard culture, the most rewarding aspects of operating with a DIY mentality, and prove how this style of music is a healthy form of expression, and lifestyle, even if the lyrical content may come across as negative or confrontational.
Throughout this film, you will recognize many well-known figures in the underground extreme metal scene such as Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), Dan Lilker (Nuclear Assault/S.O.D/Anthrax), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), John McEntee (Incantation), Tony Foresta and Ryan Waste (Municipal Waste), Trevor Peres (Obituary), Athenar (Midnight), along with various up-and-coming bands that have been forging their own mark in keeping this style of music thriving. This includes Gatecreeper, Frozen Soul, Undeath, 200 Stab Wounds, Skeletal Remains, Shadow of Intent, Bodysnatcher, Sanguisugabogg, and more. We dig up some of the most terrifying and hilarious tour stories such as Matt Harvey (Exhumed/Gruesome) getting stuck overseas in prison over a bullet belt without an English-speaking translator, Tony Foresta’s (Municipal Waste) experience with being stuck in a bind with a bloody promoter, Chris Monroy’s (Skeletal Remains) tiring mission to find his intoxicated drummer at a festival after sharing a hefty bottle of Jack Daniel’s, and Adam Roethlisberger (Vitriol) waking up to his frantic band members being held up at gunpoint at a truck stop on tour over pennies.
To all of the artists, fans, and friends that helped make this film happen - thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm genuinely grateful that this film came to existence and cannot wait to see what's next for this genre.

I'm 71 yoa and became a heavy metal fan via Led Zeppelin in 1969.After that it was metal all the way until I heard Where The Slime Live on tape @ 1995.That turned my head around completely. Shortly after I saw Carcass live and that was it and has been it ever since.Ive seen them all since then and continue to buy the music and watch the bands and will do for as long as I can.Love it.

Documentaries like these are very important. This, Slave to the Grind and Metal Evolutions Extreme metal really know how to put insight on the genres itself. It makes me excited to listen to these bands talk about how happy and dedicated and that it has nothing to do with getting famous and rich. It's forever about the music. Great work!!!!

Awesome video! I’m 43 years old and got into Death Metal after watching Traces of Death 3 VHS back in the early 90’s which had a killer soundtrack. It had Pungent Stench, Hypocrisy, Benediction, Deceased, Exit 13, Dismember, Mortician, etc on it. Started playing guitar/drums in 93 and played in few Death Metal bands. Playing shows was so awesome and I miss it. I love most all Metal genres except for NuMetal and Sellout Mainstream Metal like Korn, Slipknot, etc. I really like Tech Death Metal and Tech Deathcore a lot because there are some bands that are really pushing the boundaries of technicality and sheer brutality to another level. Bands like:
    Beneath The Massacre
    Archspire
    Rings of Saturn
    Ophidian I
    Origin
    Beyond Creation
    Cytotoxin
    First Fragment
    Gorod
    Spawn of Possession (R.I.P.)
    Necrophagist (R.I.P.)
    Cryptopsy
and many more. I can’t believe no one in this video mentioned the band “Macabre”. They were one of the very first fast brutal Death Metal bands as they formed in 1984 and released there first album in 1986 I believe. Anyways, great video and anyone whose into Grindcore, Thrash Metal, DeathCore, Death Metal, Black Metal, etc props to you 🤜🤛 as you are helping to keep these genres of Metal alive and well. Anyone who likes the really technical heavy 💩then here is a taste. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/eDAZztJQyck/w-d-xo.html

Obituary was a big inspirational band for me and that’s awesome you also got into stuff like Archspire and Gorod. Some older metal heads I know have gotten stuck in the past and totally ignores or dislikes the newer stuff just because it’s new. I can’t do that because I love watching/listening to the progression/evolution of metal. Don’t get me wrong I still love the old stuff especially Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse (who are STILL putting out great stuff), Deicide, Carcass, At The Gates, Malevolent Creation, Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, Napalm Death, man the list is long 😆. I fully dig this documentary! One of the better ones, so sincerely expressing what we all love about Extreme Metal, and what gravitated us to it. I especially loved the comments around the 54.42 minute mark, where its mentioned that "people are the same everywhere, no matter where you go, there's a bunch of metal-heads waiting to see you... its a universal concept..." However, he goes on to name multiple countries but then says "you may not see that in Nigeria much..." I don't understand this. Are people not people in Nigeria? Are there no metalers in Nigeria? I'm not dissing the documentary-or the guy who said this, like I said, I love this documentary! I just don't understand why the exclusion of this particular country was made. Metal-Heads of all countries, ethnic groups, and back grounds just shows how wonderfully diverse the genre is geographically. We all share the same culture of METAL! No matter if we're from Nigeria, Japan, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ethiopia, Spain, the US, UK, India, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, etc.
I think its awesome that the culture of the Metal and heavy extreme music community is now extending to the furthest reaches if the world, and it solidifies this bond that we all share, know, and love about extreme heavy music.
I grew up in Death Metal with more of the whole elitist-gatekeeper mentality. I think it was because there were so few of us and we wanted to show pride in what the squares (regular people) were giving us so much shit for being in to. But this also meant that alot of brown and black people were sort of ostracized. And, as was brought out in the documentary, there was a lot of division among the genres and sub-genres too. Today, I don't think there's any more room for that shit, and I personally think it's badass to go to shows and see people of all countries, colors, and ages rockin' out and banging their heads because we're all there for a shared purpose... Heavy, crunching, extreme METAL!!!
I just think there's probably people in countries like Nigeria that feel the same way.
But again. I love this documentary. It's so intelligent, for the most part. And so sincere, and genuine. Well done!

Man, At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul is one of the best metal albums ever made imo I was stoked to hear someone else call it out for the harmonious metal masterpiece it is. Super dope album. Certainly not my first metal experience or anything it came out when I was like 15 or so and I didn't even hear it until I was almost 20? I think. "Hardcore punk" is my first love, I use this terminology because my taste is definitely on a spectrum from metal to punk; don't get me wrong, I can jam out to some MF Doom too but definitely lean toward hardcore! Woah, it's rad they caught Ryan from Municipal Waste on here, he and Tony are both good people, actually I let them stay at my apartment when they were just releasing Waste Em All waaaay long ago after a show and it turned into this huge loud ass party in my geriatric apartment building! It was wild, we had a blast. Hung out with em a few times wayy back when Andy and Brandon were still in the band right before Witte started drumming and Brandon started Direct Control. Anyway real cool down to Earth fun guys to kick it and party with! They're touring soon don't miss em!

@@NoiseDosageMedia right on, i love heavy/death/black/thrash/electronic/goth/doom metal, etc, music is my father, i had no dad at home, so it is music that has been there for me, especially angry, violent music 🤗 i no longer live in florida, i live by death valley, once again, you really did a wonderful job with this documentary, and how death has not died at all in regards to being embraced by younger generations, regardless of the concept that everything's been uncovered or tried with death/extreme metal, i personally create music that uses electronics, along with down tempo and lower frequencies incorporated with softly spoken lyrics that are easily understood that is easily classified as heavy/extreme/death metal, and it does not sound generic or commercialized either, so take it from me, there is plenty of creativity left to create heavy music that does not sound like every one else, where anyone takes it is a matter of personal choice, artists create music for themselves, we just choose to like it or not, thank you for your reply, i appreciate it, keep up the good work, regards from nevada

How I think most of us discovered Death Metal.
    (At first)
"What is this dude? it's just noise..."
    (3 days later)
"Holy fuck'n shit, this is the most badass shit eveeeeer!!"
My year of enlightenment was 1991, I was 16. The band and album responsible for dragging me in? Morbid Angel ~ Blessed are the Sick

No, for me it was instant love hehe, never felt it was noise. I was 13 early 90's I was messing with covers on vocals in my first garage bands, had few Megadeath, Metallica, Maiden Slayer etc albums and wanted to make metal with a horror movie monster like voice, weeks later I had Death Human on vinyl and my first guitar & a 1.5 year after I was guitarist vocalist with my band Suffer playing live shows... You can see us live if you type Suffer Sydney Death Metal Lewisham Hotel in TH-cam. One video on my channel

For me, AC/DC and Metallica showed me the door. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest unlocked the door. Slayer opened the door. Pantera blew the fucking door off the hinges. Carcass and Napalm Death were shining the light on the other side. And Cannibal Corpse sucked me in.
Now I listen to death metal more than any other sub genre. But I still enjoy the classics.

A good and relatable list of inspiration! My older brother got me into Maiden and Priest back in the 80's, but he couldnt understand when I liked Slayer and Anthrax. Different strokes and whatnot. I'm new to listening to Death metal, but I regret all the years I wrote it off as " growling cookie monster stuff". I was wrong. The best musicians are playing death metal.

@@saltpeter7429 Same with me. Took me a while to get into death metal. I liked Carcass and CC in the 90’s, but I didn’t go out and buy all their CDs like I did with other bands. But the older I got the more I liked death metal. And now it’s my favourite sub genre.

For me personally headbanging since 77 ! I was a kid and embraced in the subsequent years al the sounds that would come from the different souls that everywhere were and still are trying to express through metal music their own visions of the world ! Kudos to the producers, musicians and people involved ! Long live metal, thrash, death and whatever kinds of all sorts that are played from the guts and the soul ! 🤘
