Hi Rob 👋 These are fantastic looking cars. I helped my 22 year old daughter buy a 2015 M Sport 320D. 75,000 miles with full history. Silver with full leather. We had an engine flush then a full service. Highly recommend getting the tracking done. Hers was well out, hence the scraped alloys. The car drove like new afterwards. We then had the alloys refurbished in gunmetal grey and I paid for two new front tires. The car looks and drives amazing. Probably bonnet respray next as it has the usual stone chips. But she loves it, her dream car 😊.
I have a similar one but pre LCI. When starting the car in the morning, if you can hear a rattle for a few seconds and it stops, it’s a sign the timing chain is stretched/worn. Keep an eye on the rocker cover aswell as they can leak oil mainly from the backside which can drip onto the DPF and cause smoke. In regards to the cabin rattle, that’s very common on these. A rubber seal from eBay should fix this by putting it in between the dashboard and the windshield and the car deffo has bluetooth, if it doesn’t reset the iDrive by holding the volume button and then see if bluetooth appears in multimedia otherwise you may have to code it in :)
Wasn't going to post this, didn't want to come across as a fan boy however " keep going with the TH-cam thing mate you are definitely a natural in front of the camera and the enthusiasm really comes across"
Hi Rob Re condensation with headlight had the same on my 530d gt 2012 cured by taking light out you don’t need to remove bumper, dried mine out with heat gun on low be careful kept in house overnight then put thin bead of silicone between lens and headlight casing, put back in misting reappeared not as bad but then with headlight in situ used heat gun a few more times over a couple of days result no more condensation
Your face when your fuel light bonged :) I do that every time on my BMW 5 Series GT and always turn to the Mrs and go 'It's alright, it's only fuel' LOL That bong installs fear in me every time I hear it!
Rob i bought a 520d three years ago i did over 30000 miles in it without any issues, it was brilliant on fuel 700 mile to a tank no problem even more if you were to go on a big motorway journey, im part exchanging this weekend for a XJ hope its as good as the beemer was to me!!!!! great channel Rob.
That door corrosion might be covered by 12 years BMW paint warranty. Those are known to corrode on top corners of all 4 doors - by the window trim. Check yours and book this in with your dealership. They might deny the job if you don’t have service history or doors were repainted previously, but still worth a shot. In regards of headlight misting - this is common. Remove top headlight cap, stick a hair dryer into it until its all dry and leave cap off for a short while, monitoring if it will mist up again. If it does - you have an issue with headlight body seal and it will require re-sealing. Don’t buy used headlight, chances it will go bad are quite high.
I had around 5 e34, 4 2.5i and 1 3.5i all automatic and all straps 6. I kept (due my wife) had to by a family car during the summer, so I swopped for 5 years going between the e34 to a ford galaxy, then on my last exchange going back to the BMW I got a merc c220 auto tourer, only because my uncle was selling it, that was quite roomy and cheaper to run than the petrol BM’S to the Diesel merc and my children were getting bigger and less wanted to go to out holiday caravan home so that was that for a few years. Until I decided to sell my caravan because my kids got fed up with it, so bought a ml320 because my legs were failing so it was much easier to climb in and out of. I owned that for 8 years until my health deteriorated where at the moment I have been told I can’t drive for the mo moment. Nice clean looking car,
I have a 530 D G30, I regular get over 50mpg steady long A road journeys . (using refuel to calculate MPG). I did 830 miles with it was just going to 50 mile reserve 68 litre tank. Fantastic car and engine.
On the rear O/S door that wee thing you were looking at is corrosion, because the door skin is aluminium, alloy corrosion can be a pain in the butt to stop and repair....
Just found your channel. Good video, youve got a new sub. Ive put 30k on my old E60 smoker. Oil changes every 6k and the history was extensive. Bulletproof. And 55mpg combined after alittle EGR and DPF fettling. (Cough) For the amount of car, looks, comfort, handling and running costs, a 5 series diesel is hard to beat.
Great video, pal. Just subscribed. 👍 I think the 5 has always been the best all-rounder. We can't drive fast in this country anyway, so I don't see the point of having a super-fast car. Even this will get to 140ish mph.
I have just bought a 2009 520d se business edition with 103k from Copart for £1080 delivered. The bottom of the bumper had a tiny amount of damage, got a bumper in the same colour for £70 and it looks great. I've decided to keep it for myself. It's stupidly good on fuel and is like driving around on a sofa lol. Drives great, powerful enough and cheap tax and insurance. I was planning on sell it on for a project but i may keep it for a cheap run around 😅
I could be wrong, but that car being the LCI facelift, I'm sure it has the upgraded B47 engine. By most accounts, the timing chain issues were all but sorted on that engine.
Hello from Ireland again, Rob. I like the BMW 5 Series. That's a lot of Car for £4k, you did very well on the price. It's a Wicked car for you, to get around in, lol. Keep up the great work, Rob. 🙏🙏👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I had a 62 plate about 10 years ago and did 100k miles in it over 5 years. Most reliable car I ever had. The best I got was a trip from Glasgow to Leeds when it averaged 63mpg. And that was just accelerating easy and sticking to the speed limits.
Love the positive spin on a 10 year old car with 130000 miles [ he only told us the mileage 10 minutes into the video ] a true motor dealer. What's it like underneath then ?
😂 waffle waffle waffle (say mileage quietly) waffle waffle… not had it up in the air yet, will see when it’s in for test. Knowing my luck at the moment it’ll need welding 😂
German cars can do v high mileage and still drive & feel like 50,000. All depends on the service history.. .. In this case, as Rob has said. Good history. This should be a relatively reliable car for the mileage...
The 640D i had from new, had condensation in the lights straight away. My dad's 2014 W222 S class has a swimming pool in his. Why we can't have condensation free modern lights does my head in. I dont think there is anything wrong with retailing higher mileage cars, with immaculate history. I dont think it dilutes your sales profile. Pirellis all round on 130k miles says it all in my eyes. That's a hell of alot of car for £4k ... but its the 520 and you yourself said the straight 6 is where it's at, so you won't last 3 months 😉
Used to have one of these on a 14plate identical outside to yours , great car ! The 3.0 is even worse than the 2.0 in terms of reliability I work on these and the 2.0 chains fail and tbh they normally break rockers circa 2.5k to put right if snap the n57 3.0 d…. Oil pumps fail, big end bearings fail , chains also fail . So all in all better off with your 2.0 just code stop start out with Carly that makes half the problems along with 18k oil changes that’s madness
@ the 3.0d are normally solid until 100k but we see way more 3.0d than we do 2.0d so make of that what you will 🤣 love the channel by the way your not a million miles away from me would definitely look at your stock when I change car
We found the misinformation specialist Any 3.0 m57 is a wonderful engine blighted by paupers who can’t afford the fuel never mind maintenance These 3.0 turbo d Bmw engines with iron block will do huge miles and power so forget the op nonsense 😂
ive stayed away from bmw for the last 35 years and last august i purchased a bmw x3 se auto with the n47 20litre engine in and have to say i love it. the auto box as got to be one of the best out there if not the best and by the way it only had 57 000 on the clock
Looks good actually. I like the 5 series in white. I agree with you about he wheel size. 19 inch will give a stiffer ride. Love the m sport looks but as you say the SE is smoother. I have just bought a 2014 M sport 520d and love it.
Yeah they drive really nicely. 18 inch wheels on mine which certainly helps with the ride quality. Mines does not have Bluetooth audio either but the way. I believe it was an optional extra on the facelift model.
It isn't the chain that fails. It's the guides. They then cause the chain to break from rubbing against it. If they are going to go they usually start around 130 to 145k miles.
@thelogbookcc lol. I think alot of it is to do with not servicing regular etc. Like you say I've had these 2.0d on approaching 200k with no issues so it's not a forgone conclusion
The triggering bong! of the bmw, but they're worth it .Does it have the optional rear folding seats? if not, I don't think you'll keep it long, because your going to need the extra space with all the trips to the diy shops and the dump ,while doing up your house.
Isn't that what ford used to do in 70s and 80s. Manufacturer cars that no-one liked but eventually we fell in love with them. I'm thinking of the Sierra that replaced the cortina and subsequently the Sierra was replaced by the mondeo 😊
I wasn't far off! (4300). 130,000 "delivery mileage" 😆 .. White cars were always the "base" model/colour.. White can work, looks good on SUVs not so good on cars. A nice set of wheels help. In this case, black wheels helps offset the colour. I think black wheels don't always work as a wheel colour choice... .. Still, worth the money. . I understand what you're saying about having an SE rather than an M. If one wants luxury stick with the non M models.. .. l had a 2009 E60 520d, now that really had a chain made of glass. l sold it Aug 2016 with 57,000 miles and it is still smoking around today with over 170,000 miles and i would love to know if that has ever had a chain on it
Rob i had a e60 520d timing chain went at 80500 miles full bmw service history .luckly bmw only charged me 1000 for a bottom half of the engine as good will gesture
I’ve got some wheels that will make this look 10x better, along with nearly new PS4S. (1mm used). Great cars, myself I prefer the 30 or the 35 with the twin turbo set up however the n47 is a top engine. They destroy the guides, just get them done and it’ll go to 300k no problem. We ran an estate from 15k to 310k…
@thelogbookcc ah maybe it just does phone calls and not music - ive got a pld e92 m3 and that only does calls through Bluetooth. I can tell by size of screen it's the low model one I thought they didn't have sat nav but that might be the e60 I'm thinking of.
Rob...ran exact same as this for 3 years, the headlight you need to act now to save yourself a fortune...take the cap of and use a hairdryer to get rid of moisture before it ruins the module, then either leave the cap off or put them little moisture bags in
My wife has now become a fan of your channel, not by choice though i don't think LOL . Luxury on a budget..i would rather drive around in the high mileage £4k BMW , than a mini - hatchback with Low mileage.. Thanks for sharing fella 👍
@thelogbookcc yes. It was mapped when I bought it I think it was 630 bhp or something obscene. It was too much power for the rear wheels would just spin even with P4S on
Rob, this was a great review! Although you seem to have put your sensible hat on in 'a soon to be a Dad' way... It doesn't have to be this way!! Ask Ben at Dadcars.
What happened to the guess price of 5 series 🤷♂️ As I said £3600 with the few issue's it has, like brakes, screen valet and detailing all paintwork. Quick turn over it's £4990 as it is 👌 Good luck with it.
This right hand drive on a left hand drive, is a right nuisance trying to look at things on the centre console because the manufacturer cannot be bothered to do a right hand drive console. These things are surely for sale in Australia, India, Japan, Malta, GB. And anywhere else I haven't mentioned.
Did I miss something in this video .. what needed fixing apart from one indicator and some moisture ! 130k is nothing they all have that they are cruisers .. so how could this 63 plate be £4k .. for an msport ? Same spec cars in auto trader are double that price
38mpg is not good on fuel, it's average on fuel but not good! even for a wofty big saloon car my Kia optima 3 (fully specced out) auto with a 1.7L TD (amazing 140bhp, i know!) does average of 45-57mpg on any given day and that's not driving it like miss daisy either😅
@@paulacklam1172 you'd think so. But a smaller engine would have to work harder to push along a fairly heavy car. Whereas the 3.0L would be relatively under-stresed..? + Modern emissions equipment also degrades power output...
Looks more like a traffic police car especially the tourer version. Shame it wasn't a 15 plate onwards which had the newer B47 engine. Had 2 x 20d in BMWs and my current one has only done 14,000 . Oil changed regardless every 5000 miles.

Rob the indicator thing is an option from new and normally they don't come with a stalk 🤣 ask any BMW driver!!
I think you'll find indicators are a standard option but never seem to work? 😜

Easy way to sort that seat belt out, fold the belt 90 degrees, then pull the buckle over. Thank me later 😂
White BMW 5 series, people think its unmarked Police car
Did I miss something in this video .. what needed fixing apart from one indicator and some moisture ! 130k is nothing they all have that they are cruisers .. so how could this 63 plate be £4k .. for an msport ? Same spec cars in auto trader are double that price
Shocking thumbnail 😂
130.000 is not high mileage I bought a 2013 320d off a trader mate with 180,000 miles, the engine was perfect and quiet
A 4 cylinder diesel in a large family saloon is criminal
BMW of today, is not of the same quality of the early 2000s. They are recyclable products, a life of 7-8 years. Lexus is a far superior product
As a Petrolhead, here's the Diesel I'll buy 😁😁😅😅
Oxymoron much?! 😂 Good point!
What's the difference between a hedgehog and a BMW. The BMW has the pricks on the inside. And that's without a w@nker plate.
I thought you were going to feed Lavazza to your fish for a minute there
Lol!
£200 put in a mmi unit and have apple car play and will solve the old feeling infotainment
Yes but it's the power you get with the luxury crusing..
So for the size of the car and power 38 is pretty good.
@@stuartd9741 my same era 530d used to deliver 38 irrespective of how hard i drove it. 520d surely should better that
@@paulacklam1172 you'd think so.
But a smaller engine would have to work harder to push along a fairly heavy car.
Whereas the 3.0L would be relatively under-stresed..?
+ Modern emissions equipment also degrades power output...
@@stuartd9741 nah. They are both high torque engines
B14chin Ride🙂
The indicators ain’t going to bother a bmw driver😂
Be fair to him, he probably did do discs and pads.... 30k ago.
😂 true!! He did own it 8 years… so technically he will have done!
Sorry Rob but ALL beemers are pretentious! 😜
Fair! 😆
Thought you'd be buying a ute m8 😂
I’ll buy it off you when you’re selling it 😂
You certainly dont sound like (accent) someone who grew up in Daisy Hill 😁
Chop's?? Well it is white. Easier to polish this one 😂
That’s a nice car to waft about in for 4 grand
Sorry rob, how much did you pay for the daily 😂😂😂😂😂
Did I not mention? 😂😂😂
👍👍👍👍👍🌶😎😎😎😎
BMW= Breaks my wallet.......
😂😂😂
Feed your fish a bit more , looking skinny
Looks more like a traffic police car especially the tourer version.
Shame it wasn't a 15 plate onwards which had the newer B47 engine.
Had 2 x 20d in BMWs and my current one has only done 14,000 . Oil changed regardless every 5000 miles.
