Outside of the workshop, my favourite part of Wheeler Dealers was when MB would introduce a small business specialist - so I really enjoyed meeting Mike at The Zed Shed. There's something great about someone finding a niche market and building a business within it. I doubt there is anything Mike doesn't know about Z3/Z4's. More of that sort of content would be very welcome. Merry Christmas.
Great comment. I used to get my old spider serviced at a place in Canterbury called MOBITECH. Similar sort of deal to the Z shed - there was nothing he didn’t know about old Alfa Romeos. Great days
Absolutely Bob! friend of the family is a Jaguar specialist in Manchester of some fifty years, sadly he's not very well now, but seeing Mike in that video is exactly how I remember Steve in his workshop surrounded by ten or more Jaguars at a time, all varying ages and states of repair with near encyclopaedic Jaguar knowledge. Desperately trying to break away from my daily filming duties to shoot a mini doc of him before he's no longer capable.
@HighPeakAutos now someone else will now have a greater awareness of what might be wrong with their roof. Top stuff Matt, keep it up as I really enjoy the content.
It almost makes me want to buy a Z3, ONLY so that I can visit Mike !! Mike is a legend. Properly, decent, knowledgeable and friendly. You should do more videos, where we can see the mechanics & trademen, that you use.
What a cool and lucky little car, and nice to see the Z-shed. When Matt decided to throw in a roof, after previously saying that was not the plan, I instantly knew the budget would be blown out of the window.
Absolutely superb. The best car show not on TV. The fixing the roof technical bit was great as well because unlike programmes like Wheeler Dealers it was all real and not made for TV. It's great to see a Car channel that's not trying to be Top Gear or Grand Tour.
Seeing you’re video make a me very happy. I bought myself a z3 in summer for £1300. I only spent £550 on it on a full service and a catalytic converter. So not bad 😊
Really enjoyed your slight departure from your norm. The mechanic input and whoever was getting in there with the camera was very interesting. Great to see you mixing it up a bit.
This Z3 suits you really well, Matt. I think you should consider making it your Christmas present. These cars are likely to appreciate in value quickly, and you should find a suitable buyer in no time. No one manufactures cars like this anymore. And if I'm not mistaken, this is a 6-cylinder, which is a good specification. Excellent job on this one; it's a find of the year for me!
@@lash9400 As far as my knowledge goes, the BMW Z3 boasted a range of petrol engines across its model lineup: A 1.8-1.9 L M43/M44 inline-four powerplant, the inline-six category featured engines spanning from 2.0 L to 3.0 L, denoted as M52/M54, and 3.2 L S50/S52/S54 inline 6.
The 3 liter in manual was an absolute peach of a car...I had one in the early 2000`s in South Africa, great around town, fun on little skirmishes at traffic lights and really really good on long drives across the country.
I love these sort of specialists (like the Zed Shed) that work in a myriad of Industrial Units up and down the country, solving problems and keeping cars like this on the road.
The Z shed done you a favour. I thought you had bought a boat anchor 😂. You should keep this one Matt. Will only appreciate in value. Happy Xmas to you and your team
I love my 2.0 ‘00 Z3, been waiting for the day you get one in. Currently at 104K and I spent the summer treating rust under the sills, foggy lamps and replacing a corroded power steering pipe. Super easy to work on, even on a driveway and feels like a go kart, even with only 150 (minus 23 years) horse power. Mechanically sound after 7 years of ownership and looking forward to many more summers with it.
4K for a fully sorted, proper old school roadster.... Bargain. Was great seeing the whole journey, including the car's visit to the Zed Shed. If I didn't have my (very pampered lol) GT86 I'd be very tempted. Keep these videos coming, we all love them 👍
Great to see some of the people who work behind the scenes to get your cars working again, would love to see the faces of those who clean & make those cars shine. Lovely video, big ups to the Zed Shed
You know Matt effed up when he says something like this! Lol 😆 27:17 By the way, I enjoyed the extra bit of content with the guy explaining everything about fixing the roof! 👍💯
Zed Shed...Fixing the car live with commentary about diagnosis whilst being filmed. Ian Tyrrell has a brother from another mother. It's so so good watching an EXPERT perform effortlessly. Thanks, High Peak Autos. 🎄🎅✨
Nice addition to the video showing someone explaining the mechanical bits. Would be good to see a bit more of this and good advertising for those who’s services you use. You could also do a half hour video of you taking off and fitting new plates to show us how it’s done.
A brilliant video. I loved the fact that you filmed the Zed Shed guys too. I would love it if you could do that more with your mechanics, Jimmy the Magician etc. Bravo for saving your Z3 - you should probably add it to your collection Matt. I doubt you will get another one, and not in such good condition (now).
Yeah Mike at the Zed Shed was very helpful, you gave him a cracking advert. Just looked at it on ya website, thought you might have done a picture under the bonnet to make it even more saleable. Great pictures though.
I have the same car and love it. I paid £5000 for it but it is immaculate. Never charge the battery at the back, there is a charging point on the offside wing under the bonnet that protects the circuits from surges. Keep your eye on the temperature gaugh if it does not warm up it needs a thermostat (common fault) very easy and cheap to do and do the pump while your in there. Try BMW dealer for a key they are clearing old stock of these and did me one for £30. Keep the car values are going up. Cheers Peter
Lovely car, especially since it’s a 6 cylinder. Like you well said, this era of BMW’s were a cut above the rest back then. The competition was very poor, unlike today. Keep up the very informative content. Cheers from Malta 🍻.
Absolutely love specialist's. The amount they know is amazing and they can save you money and keep your cheap old car on the road. Well done for highlighting the zed shed and showing Mike's diagnosis.
I bet it's a harder job doing these clips with the servicing, but, man is it so much more interesting! I already love your channel, but I really appreciated the inside into the repair. Hope you have time for more! Cheers!
Lovely car,i think the styling of them is spot on. You have saved a future classic and although you may have "m.o.s" it should appreciate in value. Loved the coverage at Mike and the mechanics. Very interesting. Would be great to know what happens to the z3.
I loved this video Matt you should include more of your associate trades people who help get you these motors back on the road. You must know locally all the best specialists by now around Cheshire even as far as Warrington. You certainly moved out of your comfort zone in this episode. Had to laugh when I saw you start adding subtitles when Mike started speaking which is a must soon as you get west of Chester Rd. God know whats gonna happen if you have to visit anyone in Sheffield eh ??
I do think the Z3 has aged really well (but I think the same about the Z4) and I can appreciate the softer suspension compared to other cars of the era; makes it reasonable on longer journeys. I find the interior feels more spacious than a Z4. It’s probably just the shaping and angle of the dash, in which case it’s credit to BMW. A friend recently bought a 2.0. She needed a new car but despite her best intentions she couldn’t help herself, she wanted something a bit special as well as practical for one person.
If you sit in a Z3 on a medium to long drive then go into a Z4, they are worlds apart. The Z3 feels special as a weekend car but it's nowhere near as nice as the Z4
Echo the comments below. I really like seeing the specialists demonstrate their knowledge. Great job all round. Can't believe how clean the interior was either. I still think you should garage some of these savers and sell them later down the line as their value appreciates. Anyway, Matt. Thanks for finding your way onto my YT feed and sharing your passion, honesty and humour. Have a great Christmas break and I look forward to some more gems in 2024.
Interested to see that the Z3 was originally registered on the Isle of Wight - Hence the 'DL' numberplate. The supplying dealers (HGL) were Hunnyhill Garage Ltd who for many years held the BMW dealership for the island.
Made up with Mike's diagnostics, he knows his stuff with out doubt. Well done Matt another one under your belt..Looking forward to the next one.Good luck mate for 2024.
I love these cars . I feel a future if not an actual classic . The sweet spot is the 190hp 2.8l 6 cyl. The shooting break version is demanding very high prices . I would put up for £4,995 .
Always thought that if I had the means (and space) to buy future classics at their cheapest and store them for future profit, the z3 would be one of them.
Great video. I sold many Z3s at BMW in the late 90’s, they made about £2k over list back then, as there was a 12 month waiting list. The black/black cloth spec, I use to upsell white lotus leather trim for the seats, door cards, handbrake and gear stick bag for £1,250, it really lifted the interior, better than the factory leather and gave it a nice smell too. The 2.8 model was the best to have, as the Z3M is a bit too costly for a Sunday ragtop.
Just got rid of my Z4 and Mike at the Zed Shed is a Z forum legend. For what he does, he's very cheap and there isn't much he doesn't know! So glad Matt included that bit of the video, amazing advertising for him
I did enjoy this video with the new format where we can see what needed to be done to put the car back on the road, so to speak; rather than 'as if by magic "voila"!!!
Really liked the section at the Zed Shed. Could you consider doing something similar with your mechanic perhaps? Considered purchasing one of these a few years back but was put off when my mate described them as a hairdressers' car!
Seeing Mr. Parker in action at ZShed was an absolute Marvel. Cobwebs all cleared out of you wallet too! Nice job on a future classic. Needs a garage with a carpet and central heating now. Unfortunately I haven't got one, but if ....
As Jeremy Clarkson observed, nobody lets you out of a side turning if you're driving a BMW...... Have to confess I don't let BMWs out of side turnings on principle.
Great video Matt Great to see the Zed saved .. and a 2.0 six not the hateful later 2.0 four Ace to see Mike on the channel, absolute genius when it comes to Zeds and my go to for anything on mine .. to the point that I bring it over from Ireland for him to work on it Top bloke 👍 Great video yet again
ahahah just found this channel and been watching some content , then I realise you guys are from Stockport, I used to live in Manchester :) , then you take it to Zed shed in Warrington , I looked it up and its 10min from where I live ! ahahah small world hey !!!
Great video, have to agree with the comments of showing more of Mike & other similar specialist businesses. I hope from this Mike gets more referrals and customers!!
There’s absolutely nothing that lifts my spirits more than when your video starts and it’s clear from the leaves on the trees that you bought the car some months ago. Settle in and wait for some quality buffing and overspending. Fabulous.
Roofs have come a long way, you say, Matt? Well, your Nineties R129 magnificence needs....a press of a button. Thats it. No latch release. No 'helping along...' - just opens....great video though. Merry Christmas / Feliz Navidad!
Owned a Z3 2.2 Sport until last May. Still have a few pangs of regret from moving it on. They are great looking and with the silky smooth straight 6 they are great for touring. A true classic now and values will keep increasing. Great video 👍🏻
I've watched many of your videos where you buy a car and get it sorted, I must say I love this format where you go in-depth on the technical side, I'd like to see more clips like this please!
Another superb video, Matt! I ran a 99/T 1.9 twin-cam for 7 years, and they're mechanically very tough and reliable cars. I think yours is very well priced as the six-cylinder versions always command a premium.
the extra content is much appreciated, i was going to suggest such. right at the end was fantastic. keep up the great work. by the way, Monday is not the same without one of your car vids
For a low mileage 6 cylinder you did quite well. In Australia they're selling for over AU$10k these days in running order, which represents a AU$3000 profit on the costs you've outlined. I picked up a '98 1.9L last year in the same colour for AU$2500 + $650 shipping but it's a non-runner and has 309,000km on the clock. Even then, if I do the required work myself it will be a screaming bargain.
These videos just get better and better. In fact, I think they're just as good, if not better than Wheeler Dealers. With the added bonus that there's no Mike Brewer. I love them. They're great.
Don’t you just LOVE an expert who knows exactly what he’s doing and doesn’t talk bullshit?…long live the Zed Shed..🎉❤
hi mate where is the Zed Shed, ive a Z4 that BMW couldn't fix

Good job showing the guy doing the roof fixes, gives an extra value to your videos

Seeing that the video is over 30 minutes long....I'm guessing you're going to massively overspend.
Yeah its a lonnngggg one
Nice work though Matt, you’ve done that zed proud
😂😂

I think we should be introduced to your paint man, and also the upholsterers.
Just thinking the same…
What a cool and lucky little car, and nice to see the Z-shed. When Matt decided to throw in a roof, after previously saying that was not the plan, I instantly knew the budget would be blown out of the window.

I loved seeing the zed shed segment. More of this please!!
Really good vid today matt ! was great to see an expert diagnose your car for you on screen
Thanks!
That BMW guy is first class, wish all mechanics were like him.
Thanks!
Really enjoyed your slight departure from your norm. The mechanic input and whoever was getting in there with the camera was very interesting. Great to see you mixing it up a bit.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I get you buy boring 2000s hatchbacks too, but this right here is the type of content we like to see!
Really enjoyed watching the roof fault diagnostics. Great to see the skills and experience of the people and businesses that you use.
Thanks 👍
The repairs / makeover you have done to that ageing Z3 has transformed the car. It’s another quality classic saved from the scrap man. Well done Matt
Could watch experts like this do their thang, all day long. 🙌
This Z3 suits you really well, Matt. I think you should consider making it your Christmas present. Are these 2 litre ones a 6 cylinder? I know the bigger engined ones are, wasn't sure about these smaller
I was wondering the same thing, I remember BMW had a 6 pot 2.3 L but not sure about the 2.0L
@@lash9400 As far as my knowledge goes, the BMW Z3 boasted a range of petrol engines across its model lineup:

Nice to see a pro using ISTA rather than me muddling my way through the screens 😂
Liking extra content at the z shed

As a fellow 2.0 owner what a great video and great car
