yep! I have had it on my list to try to find them but got frustrated a week ago bc couldn’t find any. When I just saw this one, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor hahaha
This was so helpful! I have worked with numerous art supply brands, and been taken advantage of several times lol in the hopes that it would cultivate a relationship & better offers in the future. There is uncertainty on my part on what is normal to expect for my subscriber base, but ultimately, the offers which are usually "gifted collaborations" or paid, I've undervalued. I think your advise is very insightful. Lots of food for thought.
Gifted collaborations are the bane of my existence lol, I usually just say no to those outright because the last thing I need is more stuff. I always prefer to negotiate for a flat rate!
I am SO SO GRATEFUL you've made this video! This is the type of content I wish was more popular to be honest and I truly appreciate you took the time to share some knowledge and personal experiences regarding sponsorships! Thank you thank you thank you!! 🧡🧡 And I really hope you get the payment you deserve from these brands! 🤗
This is so good, Kelsey. I work in freelance social media management and graphic design and I’m always wanting to learn better ways to negotiate with brands.
Super straight forward and easy to understand! Growing as a small content creator is so exciting but also very stressful. Thank you for this video and reminding us all to know our worth!
Thank you so much for creating this! So many creators never talk about how much to charge. I would love to learn more about how you pitch to brands and what to say in emails/reaching out to them.
Been a while since I was this early! super interesting video! Maybe a video about “how to find” those brand deals! It seems so useful and convenient for artists (or creators in general honestly), but it kinda feels like walking in fog. No pressure at all! I just always loved ur way of explaining things it would have lots of value I think! 🕺
Swell Entertainment did a video maybe a month ago(? I’d have to find it) and she shows there’s a website you can go to that has other content creators on it and they talk about stuff like that. Of course you have to be a content creator to use the site ofc.
Thank you for the insight into sponsorships. Just a little idea... You mentioned talking about the emails of what you say to brands? You could actually turn that into a product and sell email templates or offer it as a bonus or lead magnet potentially :)
This is so incredibly insightful Kelsey, thank you once again!! Im nowhere near the point of getting youtube sponsorships yet, but I am working my way up and my goal is to do well enough that I can come back to this video again when I can actually implement these tips :)
Thank you for sharing this!! I’ve been pretty set in stone for how much I’m charging and so far no brand has agreed to that price. So then I say no thanks! Glad to hear my prices aren’t too high but it’s just these brands not wanting to pay me :)
oh hey! I love your videos! you should absolutely be able to get similar rates to what I've been charging based off of your views. stick with it and hold out for the right brands! it's always frustrating when everyone lowballs you
Aw thank you, that means so much from you!! Yes I am def holding out and I'm so glad you encourage others to as well. its mutually beneficial for all of us! @@KelseyRodriguez
Thank you so much for this information Kelsey, as always I love how in depth you go with things. One thing I would also like to know about this is the payment process, do they pay before or after and how to handle it if a sponsorship is delaying the payment?
Most brands pay 30 days after the integration goes live, but some can be persuaded to do a down payment. If they're late, you send a few follow up emails. Every brand I've worked with has been prompt in paying me when I follow up!
You have incredible video content for artists, keep up the great work Kelsey. I'm curious as to where you stand on using TH-cam ads to promote your channel. Have you ever promoted any of your videos and if so, did it have any negative effects on your channel? And do you recommend doing it? Thanks again for the great content.
I've never tried it! IMO paid ads don't really work for gaining organic momentum, which is really what drives long-term growth for a channel. My instinct is to avoid it and just focus on making better content, I hope that helps!
1. Sponsored video idea - I'm not sure how much Aura helped when your Discord got hacked but maybe a video could be on that and prevention tips. Could you interview someone from their team about common type of security breaches creators face? 2. Do you use the SAG-AFTRA influencer terms for brand deals? I know that's one way to get a union card AND health insurance....I just don't see anyone talking about how to get started in that process.
Just discovering this video months after you posted it, but yes I'd love to see what type of emails you send to brands to get the ball rolling! If you already created that video, please share the link 😊
Thanks a bunch for this, I have similar views as you, unfortunately no matter how much I have tried to talk to brands, they always lowball me and wont pay not even close the prices you are getting. They always want a strict last average videos CPM30 deal, which is therefore rarely more than 500 dollars.
I think it also might be a niche thing-- I post a lot of business videos which tends to attract sponsors that can pay higher rates. your views are solid though, you should be able to get at least $1k! Maybe lean more into affiliate deals? If they're not willing to pay the high flat rate that you deserve, you can maybe make up that difference with commissions or affiliate marketing. Try to get them to do a perpetual affiliate or commission deal, so you keep earning $$ well past the first month the video goes live. You also might want to consider joining the Partnered TH-cam Discord server where monetized youtubers chat more about sponsors! discord.gg/usXM9gvF
Companies mostly come to me but every so often i’ll reach out to a brand via email! I usually do some linkedin stalking to find someone in their marketing department and then track down their email
there’s no hard and fast answer! If you don’t have a large following tailor your pitch to deliverables that are more follower-independent, ie UGC style content for the brand’s socials, photos, etc.
Thank you for all the tips! Super helpful! Is it normal to get paid up front for flat rate, long term content, or do they make payments as videos are posted?
payments as videos are posted is the standard thing! sometimes you can negotiate for a down payment though. I've basically never been paid up front, always after the fact.
Awesome video, thank you so much! It was really helpful. I often receive offers for products in exchange for creating content for companies. I usually express that I don't do sponsorships for free, but I've only managed to convince a few so far. Could you provide some tips on how to effectively handle these types of brands? Thank you so much!
Maybe send an email that goes something like “Thank you so much for reaching out! I’d love to partner together but unfortunately a gifted-only partnership is not something I can accept at this time. I spend days working on my content and creating the highest quality advertisement for your product as possible, and really do require that I am paid for my time. While I would love to work with you, a gifted only deal just reflect the value i can bring to the table. Is there any flexibility on your end here?” and maybe attach some impressive metrics if you have any, a media kit, your normal rates, etc so they have something to look at! But some companies are just cheap skates and will never want to pay creators, keep that in mind! 💗💗
Hey Kelsey! Im a huge fan of your videos, do you do any private coaching sessions or anything of the sorts when it comes to building your art business and sponsorships? I have a large niche audience on Instagram while slowly building up other platforms but I'm having trouble marketing and monetizing myself.
I do! I get asked about this a lot so I started offering one on one meetings to chat with folks, and if we decide we're a good fit to work together we can discuss a longer term coaching arrangement
This is a brilliant video & so helpful! I was just wondering if anyone can help me with actually approaching brands - I've done some work for brands in the past but they have always come to me. This year I want to work with more clients but feel a bit stuck in how to get conversations going. x
hi kelsey! thank you so much for this video, this was so interesting and relevant. One thing I'd love to know, is wether/how you approach brands you'd like to work with! I have 40k followers on my illustration instagram account, but I haven't really had any brands reach out to me. Would you just send an email to the PR-Person of a brand, asking them to work with you? Would you approach them with a specific reel/post- idea? I'd love to hear your advice :-)
I'd start hunting for emails, yeah! Generally DMing the brand's main account isn't going to get you to the right person, but sometimes they'll provide you right the correct email to reach out to if you ask. I would absolutely pitch your value and a specific reel/post idea, anything to help convince them and make saying yes easier! also possibly leave out your rates in that initial pitch message and say something like "let me know if you're interested in this and we can discuss specifics!"
Hi, sorry but, I got lost on where and how to find specific brands to negotiate with since it was a long video. Ha ha. At least you said I don’t have to have a big following in order to have these, right? Lol
i didn’t really cover finding brands in this video! once you reach around 10k brands start reaching out to you. If you wanted to reach out, I’d first contact smaller brands whose products you already like and use!
I would love to start brand deals for youtube. But I don't think anyone wants an artist with 1000 followers and maybe 200 views a video. Would you recommend I try anyway? (My instagram has over 70k though!)
I would love to know about how much you charge on instagram, I’ve gained a decent following and have brands reaching out but dont know what to charge or anything about deliverables, thanks 😊
This is literally the first video I have ever seen about brand deals on TH-cam. This is fantastic information.
Same!

Kelsey!! This is perfect timing as I’m currently negotiating brand deals right now 🙏 thank you!
I can't wait to get to the point where I can start making brand deals. 🥴 Hopefully I'll be able to start doing that this year.
This is so good, Kelsey. I work in freelance social media management and graphic design and I’m always wanting to learn better ways to negotiate with brands.
Omg, thank you so much for how to politely reject cheap offers! I was literally just pondering that yesterday. Tone and stuff is so hard!

I watched that video and I think she was talking about FYPM (f ck you pay me!) is the name!
