Cats fear vacuums because they know vacuums are portals to the plane of vacuum.
The quasi-elemental planes are so weird. Half of them are so hostile to life they might as well be layers of the Abyss.
its honestly easier to live in the abyss.
though I will point out that here and there, there might be some layers of the abyss that are just as hard to live in. I know one of the layer is quite literally a void as well, same as the quasi-elemental plane of Vacuum
The Abyss is inhospitable because every 'atom' of it hates you, these are uninhabitable because physics are a thing.
The Abyss is inhospitable because every atom hates you, the elementals are uninhabitable because physics.
One of the interesting things about the Plane of Steam is that it's the only plane to have spawned two different types of Mephits. Steam Mephits and Mist Mephits as you can surmise from their names Steam Mephits are more about hot steam, vs Mist Mephits which are more like the plane itself and are more about water vapor despite temperature..
They have an intense rivalry and dislike each other.
love you jorphdan and your content!, I just realized how much i missed the dnd lore videos when I saw this posted
hard agree! we missed you Jorphdan
The towers in the quasi positive planes sound like the perfect bases for epic tier parties to set up shop after clearing out any dangers. Abundant sources of energy , minerals and forges along with potent defenses and ready access to other planes if you go by the stars are portals interpretation
I thought perhaps a BBEG can use their connection to do some large ritual
Imagine living in sigil with your own portal to the quasi-elemental plane of salt and being a salt trader for a living
"Purest salt in the multiverse, I guarantee it! Straight from the source"
You should check out the story "Tales of an Industrious Rogue".
One of my favorite DND stories.
“You’ll need plenty of magical protection” shows a pic of some fallout 4 armor. lol.
Your cosmological videos are my favorite and have had a real impact on my games! Thanks Jorphdan.
Glad to hear it!
oh HELL yeah. fresh out of the oven, and on the quasi-planes!! 5e DMG did a bad job talking ab these, so i’m real excited to see what mr. phdan has to offer :)
First name Jor, last name Phdan
Holy poop I loved the old planes cosmology. Never thought I would see someone talk about them.
As a fan of Dragons, I would be interested in hearing more about the Brine Dragon.
My favorite is the quasi elemental plane of Jorf, where the name Jordan borders the letters of P and H
🤣
my 5e party very recently visited lightning, time, and radiance at level 20
Agree with you on your preference for the more hostile/extreme version of the Plane of Radiance.
Zal the Destroyer sounds like an interesting plot point
one thing worth noting seems to be something that you did not mention, these planes to our knowledge no longer exist after 2e, do to the repositioning of the planes, and the fact none of these planes have been, to my knowledge mentioned in official published materials since the days of 2e, let alone 5e, as without making that clear, this could confuse newer players to the hobby that stumble across the video
Plane of vacuum? It must suck!
Hey-ooo
Glad to see you back in action sir, dropping the deep lore bombs. I look forward to more!
This video made me wonder, have you checked out A Visitor's Guide to the Rainy City? It seems both up your alley, but also could function as a location on one of the more wet demi-planes.
I played a dust genasi once. If his allergies went away and he stopped sneezing regularly, that’s how you knew he was getting sick.
this is a very polished channel
I do enjoy the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Salt, because it gave us the Tales of and Industrious Rogue story.
We visited because a crazy Chef gave us gold for a special kind of salt
My favorite DND story
Woot Jorphdan is back
I have been waiting for this one! Thank you my dude!
Great video! Intertaning and interesting!
i like the quasielemental plane of lightning. some wizard would want to make it a source of energy on the material plane. possibly to just make tons of aluminum cheaply to make a killing on the market for a few months.
6:13-6:16
Coincidentally, I created a special spell variant of Flesh to Stone; Flesh to Mineral. This is basically that spell as a planar side effect. Neat.
Honestly I've been waiting for this for so long XD thank you for getting to it
Since shying away from D&D earlier this year I've missed your lore videos so badly. Would love to see some Golarion lore videos from you one day. Lots of great and vibrant writing in that world to work with. 😁
Thank you Jorphdan.
I was hoping you would hit the Quasi’s. Many thanks! Love your work!!
One way a plane can be infinite and have borders is for each plane to infinite in three dimensions and to assume one or more additional dimensions in which the planes are finite and thus have borders.
waaaay too long ago, been missing your vids man!
I think that the easiest way to imagine how these planes intersect is the the outer planes r like a wheel n arranged in a disk like ur diagram shows, but the material n elemental planes r like the axle that wheel spins on but instead of reaching out to another wheel they reach out to the two semi-spheres that r the positive n negative energy planes making the fey wilds n shadowfell where the material meets the positive n negative respectively n the same for all the planes u r about to mention when I unpause this video, except those connect to their respective elemental planes
Quasi-planes are the best planes.
I see that Planegea book in the back! I love that setting so much! It would be cool if you could do more videos to highlight it, or books like it. What makes different campaign settings cool/interesting/or just not the forgotten realms!
I'm thinking that might be the next chunk of content. 😀
@@Jorphdan That would be amazing! I love new setting stuff! The Realms is cool, but there's so much more out there too!
Thx for all your videos, Jorphdan. Could you do a lore vid on the Mere of Dead Men sometime?
I'll add it to my list!
6:35 “Cow Tools”~
love the videos, im confused though, where would planes like The realm of coiling fear/ shard forest/ sea of frozen flames, etc be?are they not quasi/para elemental planes or are they something else entirely ? keep up the fantastic videos cant w8 for more !
Have you read the Planescape fan novel Fire & Ash? It takes place, partially, on the titular quasi-elemental plane. Also it's a fantastic story.
I haven't but I'll go look it up and add it to my list of books for 2024!
If the four base elemental planes plus the energy planes form the faces of a cube, then the para and quasi elemental planes are the edges. But what if there was more? What about the corners?
Lightning and Ash are my personal favorite
Jorphdan:"Next is the quasi plane of salt." Ah so the youtube comments section.
I thought the Kingdom of the Blind was ruled by a guy with a single eye :)
YES
Kinda wish you showed the map for the Plane of Mineral and Vacuum.
I am now imagining a race of floating abstract statues that aren't alive at all but has a portal to a very special artificial plane made from the Isolated merging of the ethereal and astral planes and the stuff between crystal spheres where they are being piloted from. Their goals appears to be to truly understand the inner planes and can be found throughout them all. Should a statue be destroyed another is simply made and put out from that special plane with that same portal inside. The portal is never revealed nor is it ever closed, the statue is pushed out from within the portal but the portal is always within the statue.
What do you guys think?
The Diet Coke of Elemental Planes. Just one calorie. Not enough element.
Great vid!
What games are you running at the moment Jordphan? Are you or have you ever run a Planescape one? ty
Yep? Great Modron March and Rod of Seven Parts on Nerd Immersion's channel.
Currently running DCC Perils of the Purple Planet with my home group!
Jorphan, what is that song of the star shaman book???
I mean the character icon I have is named shaman and I’m shamanic in real life, so it caught my attention
Plangea!! I'm prepping a Plangea campaign for my friends! It's great!

Hi Jorphdan.
Hey I love your videos! Any chance at you revisiting the Taneres Campaign setting since they dropped on dmslair and make some videos on it? I love the Cirrus and Redeemer ideas already
Yeah, they're sending me some books now that the Kickstarter is fulfilling. So I hope to!
@@Jorphdan omg!!! I can't wait 🩷🩷
I preferred the quasi-elemental planes.
why have i never used a salt elemental
Maybe I missed it, is there a book where I can get all of this information from?
Links are in the description. Most of the info came from the 2nd edition "The Inner Planes" supplement!
One does not speak of the spell jammer of the version that must not be named or you will bring that abomination of a book to the present to haunt and curse you. Voldemort is afraid of mentioning said tome's name out loud.
What?
@@anthonybernard8819 Some people think that 5e Spelljammer was a thing. It was not.
There is no 5e Spelljammer.
5e Spelljammer was so bad that the Universe Erased it to ensure Cosmical Balance.
my comment didnt go thru :c
uhhh... mephit stuff!
Ok ok, but what about the quasi para-elemental planes? 😂
the quasi para-elemental sub planar demi planes?!?
So Magma, Ooze, Ice and Smoke, mixed with Magic Energy?
Is Zal the destroyer official or hb?
Official from what I read.
5E Spelljammer is trash...Ignore it completely. If you want your ships to have the ability to aces Astral plane, then the Arcane can sell you a rare Astral Helm
Good News: You don't need to take food
Bad News: The Astal Plane is Monsterful.
