You will still need to be in range of an ATT tower for the Nighthawk to benefit from LTE speeds. Have you tested Verizon connectivity in your area? @@GeekTractor I tried to do an ipad plan in the Verizon website, and the answer was.. the IMEI is not compatible with their plan(nighthawk m1 IMEI). I'm going to check NOMAD internet, do you know if it's good?
@@luanlmt you can check them out. I have been hearing people have issues. All I know is I got an iPad plan (bring your own device). I used the SIM card for the iPad in the nighthawk. Maybe the one difference. I actually have an iPad and an IMEI number for it. That is what I did and it works really well.
Hey don't know if you're still here but you can just buy a standard phone plan and put that phone plans sim card into the nighthawk (usually locked to at&t). This will get around the "imei not supported" issue since they no longer allow services through them officially. Just purchase the phone plan and stick that sim card they send into the router. Thats what I do and it works perfectly. Be sure to purchase unlimited data. (You don't need unlimited hotspot. Just unlimited data.)
I live in a rural area and I want to know if the nighthawk m1 can it connects to Verizon or is it only connected to AT&T because I’m with Verizon too and I want to stay with them because I have LTE where I live but AT&T works here too but I want to stay with Verizon.
It can only connect to ATT. I have found some posts on Reddit where people have reconfigured it for Verizon-based frequencies. However, it is probably not worth the trouble, unless you’re comfortable fiddling with tech. I would look into getting a Verizon branded hotspot.
@@GeekTractor I see I’m think of changing because I feel like I’m getting rip off on Verizon and like stuff but on at&t do they stay by their words or like they kinda sus
I have had the nighthawk for three months now. We just finished the last cycle with 165GB of bandwidth usage. We didn’t notice any throttling. I probably would have looked for a Verizon-based device if we didn’t live in a Verizon dead zone. But all in all... I am very happy with what we have gotten out of this little device and the ATT iPad plan. It has been a game changer for us out here in the middle of nowhere.
If you have unlimited, it shouldn’t be a problem. I used more than 200GB last cycle. With my family of six that is pretty easy to do. We have a DSL line for Netflix and Amazon Prime. I will put another video together on the SIM card and plan I use. I use the iPad SIM card. Not a hotspot SIM card.
I don’t see why not. I am using a nano SIM from the iPad because I need the SIMs in my phone. Plus in my case I am using ATT for the nighthawk because my phones are all on Verizon, which works great every but this valley we live in.
@@GeekTractor The best I can tell data offloading is where you plug that nighthawk into your home DSL modem. Then it offloads some of the Internet traffic on to that net work. Which saves you data so that you don’t experience throttling. However Nobody seems to have a whole lot of information about it. That’s why I asked. I’m curious if while offloading data onto the DSL it maintains speed.
I am using ATT unlimited. The key is to get the plan and a SIM card for an iPad. The SIM card will fit inside the nighthawk. We took the Nighthawk to Florida for Thanksgiving vacation. My brother is a vlogger as well and we are swapping video, so I have uploaded gigabytes using the nighthawk the past couple days. Super fast and no noticeable lag. Very satisfied.

@@aubzrk here is the current unlimited plans. Keep in mind if you use the SIM card in the night hawk it acts under the 100gb threshold before they *may* slow speeds. Service providers treat Hotspot bandwidth differently than direct bandwidth. The "unlimited" plan I have has a max of 15GB of hotspot bandwidth. If I go over it starts charging me for overages. Running a mobile device's SIM card in the Nighthawk treats the bandwidth as direct bandwidth, so overages aren't charged. They just give me a warning that the speed may be governed during high traffic times. We regularly run over 300GB of monthly bandwidth. No noticeable speed limits and no charges. If you don't use more than 15GB of bandwidth a month, then using your iPhone as a hotspot is a good option.

Yes. You will need to get a plan. You will want to make sure it is a plan for the iPad. “Bring your own device” plan. When they send you the SIM card just use that in the nighthawk. It is smaller than the slot, but it still slips in and works fine. I have been using it for months without issue.
I posted an update video with answers to various questions about the Netgear Nighthawk, the plan I use, and more. Check out this video here: th-cam.com/video/HhqU0mkM-kg/w-d-xo.html
May i have the link to the plans please? My current 35$ a month plan at&t is saying no data connection
This the plan I have.

Remember that I got it for an iPad, then took the SIM card for the iPad and put it in the nighthawk. Another commenter said they use a service called Nomad. I haven’t looked into that, but may be worth a look.
Nice
Thanks
Does my iPad have to have a hotspot unlimited plan or a regular one
It depends on how much bandwidth you need. I have an unlimited iPad plan with hotspot option. But I kept running out the 15GB hotspot limits. Once I put the SIM card in the nighthawk I could connect with other devices to it without the hotspot limits.
I’m not sure if they sell an unlimited plan without a hotspot option. I may need to check into that.
Hey Buddy, can you help me please. I got the nighthawk m1, and I contracted att plan, but even reaching the 15gb limit data they keep charging me 10 dollars per 2gb, can you help to figure out why
Thank you
You need to have unlimited to avoid data overages.
@@GeekTractor I understand, thank you buddy
Thanks for sharing @Ben Lewis
this netgeat nighthawk is burning through my gb. Any way you know whats wrong?
If you have unlimited, it shouldn’t be a problem. I used more than 200GB last cycle. With my family of six that is pretty easy to do. We have a DSL line for Netflix and Amazon Prime. I will put another video together on the SIM card and plan I use. I use the iPad SIM card. Not a hotspot SIM card.
Will a cellphone SIM card work instead of a ipad
I don’t see why not. I am using a nano SIM from the iPad because I need the SIMs in my phone. Plus in my case I am using ATT for the nighthawk because my phones are all on Verizon, which works great every but this valley we live in.
I will do a video update with more answers on this.
I disagree with starlink. It'll end up being a monopoly of the orbital space
I totally respect the concern.
Do you use data offloading at all?
What do you mean by data offloading in this context?
@@GeekTractor The best I can tell data offloading is where you plug that nighthawk into your home DSL modem. Then it offloads some of the Internet traffic on to that net work. Which saves you data so that you don’t experience throttling. However Nobody seems to have a whole lot of information about it. That’s why I asked. I’m curious if while offloading data onto the DSL it maintains speed.
What plan are you using for this service?
I am using ATT unlimited. The key is to get the plan and a SIM card for an iPad. The SIM card will fit inside the nighthawk. We took the Nighthawk to Florida for Thanksgiving vacation. My brother is a vlogger as well and we are swapping video, so I have uploaded gigabytes using the nighthawk the past couple days. Super fast and no noticeable lag. Very satisfied.
@@GeekTractor can you provide a link for that? When I reviewed their plans for other devices there were no plans avaliable for unlimited, that I found.
@@aubzrk here is the current unlimited plans. Keep in mind if you use the SIM card in the night hawk it acts under the 100gb threshold before they *may* slow speeds. No matter how many devices are connected to the nighthawk. We used around 185gb last month without issue. www.att.com/plans/unlimited-data-plans/?source=EC1NvImlp0000000P&tfn=wireless&WT.srch=1&wtExtndSource=att+unlimited&gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1272071&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgKuE0-fp7QIVgr3ACh1I-w0_EAAYASAAEgJEb_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
The new ones are going to be unlocked so that will be cool
Sweet!
Why can’t you just use your iphone as a hotspot to do the same thing?
Is this still working?
Absolutely! I have used 361GB of bandwidth this month and have one more day left. I will be posting an updated video next week with answers to questions from comments. Subscribe so you get notified when that goes live, if you like.
Will this work in bc Canada with Rogers?
This list confirms that Rogers is a supported carrier for the M1 and M2 devices:

@@Welovebabi you’re welcome.
What sim card do I get for it ??
I used the iPad SIM card which is the nano SIM card. It slips in the Nighthawk slot. The SIM card is smaller than the slot, but that is okay. It works fine.
