    There is no chance (like absolutely none) that the heating would run the battery down to 20% in one night. I've camped in my 2014 Model S and over a 6 hour sleep at night in 5C temp outside, the car used 45 miles of range!
    Also don't forget climate control isn't just about heating, it also keeps the air circulating and dry (no condensation on the windows in the morning) and the lower the heat setting, the less power it will consume of course.

      In 10 years I wouldn't be surprised if it is still worth a good deal more than that. Since autopilot will be always updated and you will be able to replace batteries for a cheaper price. Wouldn't be surprised if they aren't below 15k.

    • @IlliaDoroshenko

    • @Marian87
      @Marian87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ashaf3561 The difference is that in 10 years time there will probably be at least 2 million more Teslas around plus a whole bunch of capable electric cars from other brands.

    • @ashaf3561
      @ashaf3561 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Marian87 That doesn't really mean the price will drop that much. People are given an option to buy a used honda civic for 5k or a telsa with autopilot. I think the demand will be high enough for 3x the price.

    • @Marian87
      @Marian87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ashaf3561 You're probably right that it won't reach 2k. Even in 10 years the demand for electric cars will be high and old electric cars might still be a good option compared to the incresingly restricted and taxed gas cars, but I was pointing out that the scene will be pretty different in 10 years and depending on what new tech and options comes in that time it will have an impact on the price. If batteries improve alot in that time and they could be retrofitted on older cars then they will obviously still hold a high value.
      The thing is that if electrics don't become much cheaper as they age it will be harder for everyone to transition to electric transportation and it will take more time, so my hope is that something happens that speeds up the process.

    With the frunk to store stuff, you can actually set up the sleeping area even while at home. And so it's all ready when you are on route for a quick nap. Or once you reach the campground. I think there's adequate room in the X. The foam padding likely took more of the precise vertical space than needed. But it does look really cozy in there. Another way to get some more room is to move the front seats all the way forward and it's tilt as well. Unless you're using it as a headboard. :)

    Done model 3 to Yosemite and Portland from San Francisco. Camping both times. Also done Model X to Portland. Perfer model 3. There does seem to be more space though I found the leg room limiting. The model 3 seats went down further which made a huge difference... I'm 6' 3" and could fit in the Model 3 with the front seats forward and lugage to fill in the gap. Tilting the passenger seat forward in the 3 made a big difference too.
    I spent a night up at Yosemite at 47 degreese and used about 20% of the battery over night...

So basically, be within 40 miles of a place you can charge (which could include the campground), and expect to lose 20% battery if you leave heat/AC on overnight (5-10% is more common).

    You would have had lots of battery charge left to get you back to the supercharger at minimum. If you would have completed the test you would have saw that it only uses about 10% of the battery having the heat on all night. Depends of course, but based on your comments in the video the car would not have had to work that hard to keep the cabin warm. I have camped in my model S many times and never had range anxiety. Another option would be to get an electrical camping site and then you are gaining charge all night. I suggest completing the test and your anxiety will disappear.

    If you're ultra paranoid about running out of battery while running camping mode: Try parking in a caravan park, they often have power supplies on hand so you can keep the car charged overnight.

    Was the foam enough to sleep on? many use an air mattress bc portability. The seatbacks themselves are much too hard.
    You can also bring a water heater and cook some noodles :) Model Y is launching so obvious opportunity to do it again

    So full disclosure, I haven’t used Camp mode myself, but I believe Camp mode does more than just keep your car warm or air-conditioned, so there’s a benefit to having Camp mode on & with the launch of Starlink, the problem you described about not having access to the Internet is going to be solved rather quickly & finally, I think the reason you felt claustrophobic is because you bought too much bedding & I also wondered how many hours were you planning to sleep? I think I would’ve brought a sleeping bag, because I would only jdo this in an emergency! So great video excellent camera work and I think you’re a natural presenter & I look forward to seeing you in your next video! Cheers!

    Hey I know that charger. Looking forward to camping in my model x. I've campedin a tent in the winter so I think I will be fine.
    Also campers sleep in smaller tents all the time but I can see that the center beam in the model x is kind of in the way.
