Thunderbolts are still the coolest sirens ever made. When I was a kid, my parents and grandparents had told me that these were put in local schools as well as fire departments when they were installed in the late 1950's and into the early 1960's. If you ever had heard that sound, first Friday of the month at 11:00 a.m., you'd run like hell. I've seen many recordings of this FS&S Thunderbolt, and there is no comparison. "That's exactly what we wanted to see!"

Bad news, on 12/31 the chopper died. The siren is awaiting repair or, worst case scenario, replacement. EDIT: 9/11/23 it has now been taken down, with no replacement, and is being refurbished as we speak. It should be back up early next year
UPDATE: the siren has be disabled as if right now. talked to the county. they told me as if right now they have it disable for right now bc of issue's its haven rn. so ill keep everyone updated
It was never the flasher. It was the spring in the solenoid. I told them to get the mantinance crew to look over the siren and grease what needs to be greased and it seems like they did.
Are used to live in South Carolina but now I live in Georgia and we have more thunder bolts. Then South Carolina and all of those sirens are in Jonesboro, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, Rex Georgia all of Clayton county Georgia and it’s very much for me like they were all installed in 2017 maybe 2020 maybe 2016 the one in Atlanta wasn’t done in 1978 and that it’s not even there anymore, and then we also have a thunderbolt 1000 AT that replaced a Whelan vortex fin back in by the way, I thought it was gone, but that actually use the Whelan as a fire siren, but the Wailin collapsed and it’s just sitting there, but at least I sold it to siren con they fix it just like the 500 that fell over you know it’s super much. We have a lot of sirens there it’s like 396 sirens and then we also have a nuclear plant right next to South Carolina like to the line of South Carolina, and they have T128s and they all replaced 3016s and something on the boat so just sitting there some like you know some they really are active now and I have my own personal siren which is a 2001 that I gave to a police station in Birmingham Alabama and then I had a steel 10 that I gave to a oh fire station in the same exact area and then I have a one that is sitting up there which is a actually have two are sitting up a 3T22 and a thunderbolt 1003A kind of just like the same siren, but just newer because I got it in 2017 just when all the thunder bolts were installed😂 it might not make sense but it is what it is it’s unusual am I used to live by this fire station and I just went to Silver Street yesterday and I saw this thunderbolt Jess jess the thunderbolt was not there the pole and the blower was there, but not, but not the siren that’s weird and by the way is getting refurbished I know it I just know it because it got installed here in 19 something but that’s all I just wanted to tell you you guys
@@CentralOHSirens yeah something around that. Apparently there was maintenance crew up there greasing the solenoid and I assume the chopper because of the low pitch. At least it doesn't sound like it's on crack

Thunderbolts were not made until the early 1950s. this one in particular was made in the early 1960s. so it survived only the cold and vietnam wars.

It wasn't an issue with the flasher, I'm pretty sure it was the actual solenoid taking a shit.
