I have semi retired now but have transferred to NCFS Station 7, Silverstreet because I still love the service so much. I've known Daniel for a number of years and am proud to have him as a friend. Having all of you fellas come by and hold your event in our little town was very special. I am sorry that the weather was not perfect, and also that Big Bird (that's my name for the siren) was a little hoarse that day. She's got a lot of years on duty under her belt, I'm sure you all understand. Which one of you came down from New Jersey? I believe I might have given you my very last available official NCFS patch as the "furthest distance traveled" award. You are all very welcome to come by anytime. Your club, in many ways, pays respect to the long history of the Fire Service as well as the Civil Defense service from which our county emergency services were born. It's a real pleasure to know that there are still people out there that have an interest in preserving that heritage. Thanks for making an old fart's day! Daniel, I can always use your help troubleshooting Big Bird's issues and manning the radios for me while we conduct our weekly tests and drills. -Bob
I'm so glad me and all the others could come down that day! We were all super happy. The person who came down from New Jersey was Alex Sakkos, his youtube name is NJTransit Railfanning Productions. If yall ever need help with the siren id be glad to help with it since I know a bunch about these old things and I also own one of these in my own collection if you haven't seen my other videos.
@@SouthCarolinaSirens ah ok I had the same issue with my motor starter/contactor it's a old furnace electric from the 50s and it kept getting stuck In the engaged position so I cleaned the metal moving parts as they were rusty and that fixed the problem
@@SirensandThunderbolts1003 My 1003 started doing it when i was running manual hi lo cycles, it did it just like this 1003 and didn't stop till i put some wd 40 on the solenoid and it hasn't done it since then.

That's starting to sound like Lake Bluff's 1003 when it does fire, or at least similar to how it sounded one time.
Not gonna lie it sounds pretty cool with the one sticky solenoid. Hopefully it gets greased up before it becomes a seezed solenoid.

Sticky solenoids, and dirty brushes. The recently refurbished one in St Paul has the same solenoid problem
Saint Paul has a dirty slip ring issue, the solenoids don't stick on that thunderbolt either.

Just needs to be oiled/greased. Told the firmen to get the maintinance crew out so it should be alright soon.
