And could we just emphasise, especially for newer skaters: pads and helmet! *When* (not if) people fall, protective gear can be the difference between standing right up, or leaving a blood trail and going to hospital. (Experienced skaters know their own skills and risk level, do what you want. But newbies *are* *going* *to* *fall* *over*)
Anybody know where I can get some protective gear for fat people? I bought the largest I could find on Amazon and it fits me snugly but my BF is fat and muscular so it was a no 😢
So I discovered these videos along with planet roller skate about a year ago and was immediately swayed to buy some skates and skate outdoors. I thought since I skated as a kid in a rink it wouldn’t take me very long!! Boy was I wrong but these videos have helped me with my progress over this past year and this one is so educational! I unfortunately learned the tough way but this video is going to save someone from eating a lot of asphalt! Also keep trying!!! How far I’ve came in a year is amazing and surprises me constantly 💖
Got my moxi skates yesterday, but I’ve been watching you and planetrollerskate for a month! I mastered bubbles yesterday and had my husband laughing when I said, “down with the butt up with the gut.” You are such an amazing teacher and everything is explained so concisely.
This is perfect timing. With everything going on I’m taking advantage of having more free time and really dedicating that extra time to learn how to skate properly.
Just did my first trail skate. 😍 Totally used all of this advice. I did 7 miles. This was my first long distance skate. I was definitely bringing up the rear 😂
Aloha from maui!!! I used to skate as a kid ,I am 61 now and your videos got me back out there!! Your videos and moxie girl videos are awsum for beginners. Thank you
Thank you for this! Our town doesn't have a rink nearby, so outdoors is our only choice. I never knew about the split stance--what a great option. I haven't skated in about 40 years and I appreciate the advice to practice 10 minutes a day. I got all the safety gear, too, b/c I don't want to chance any broken bones if I can help it. I'm sure I look a sight, but who cares--I'm happy!
Beginner skater here! I just got my skates yesterday and I’m watching this video as I sweat my brains out in the hot sun w/ them on rn. 😂 This is so awesome and scary!
This is so helpful omgg I've been skating for 4 days out side (I'm counting the days and video taping my self and going back and reviewing what I'm doing right/wrong) and I keep falling *almost* every time I hit a crack or some grass and this makes so much sense I can't wait to get back out there!!!
My 23yr old daughter got me to get some beach bunny moxies. Her and her friends are starting to skate and have invited this 45yr old to join them. Great mom and daughter time! Great excercise. Thank you sooooo much for these videos!!!! Xoxo
I’m 21 and never skated before in my life. I just took it up 5 days ago and I’m obsessed with the feeling but still learning balancing/speed/turning everything lol. My dad and I go out to the empty movie parking lot near my house since nobody is there everyday and it’s so much fun! I hope learning on the rough parking lot will make skating on smoother surfaces easier when I get there lol
This video was super helpful! I've been intimidated by the grassy gaps in trails but I think I'll give it another go now that I see you can get over them no problem :)
I’ve had my 7year old daughter watching her and my sugar plum learn to skate in 1week she’s doing exactly what she’s demonstrating we’ve been skating outside for 3weeks love her ❤️🥰
Aww! Just like 7 year old! He always askes to watch DDH! Plus, he’s improved so much in the last few weeks. Love thinking of this new generation of skaters!
Hi. I JUST took our broom with me to the basketball court a week ago; so you can imagine my face when I saw your video come up on my feed. Lol I'm hoping to visit Fountain Valley Skate Center when we can travel again. You made my day when you took a picture with me!
My husband laughs at me when I bring a broom but I don’t care haha!! I’d rather be able to skate more confidently than be hung up on all the rocks! Going to check out your wheel video right now, sounds like exactly what I was looking for!
As long as there aren't TOO many cracks when starting out. I'm actually teaching my 16 year old right now outdoors. Mainly in the street, so she's getting really good at going straight, but it's time to start working on her turning. She would get to a turn at the rink before they all shut down, of course, and revert back to bubbles/scissors and lose pretty much all of her momentum. Trying to get her to lean into the turns and pick her feet up. We've got a lead on a MUCH smoother surface, so once it stops snowing here, we plan on heading up to the local elementary school parking lot. They have, what they call, a "loop". Basically it's an area for dropping off the kids that has a little, grassy, "island" in the center that the buses and cars circle around so it's the perfect area to simulate a rink situation. :)
This lady is great she must be a skating Coach! Plus I love how she shows you how she cleans off the surface in the beginning lol ! I am a figure skater and have pic skates and been trying to pic skate! My roommate bought some roller skates so we can skate together & she doesn’t know how to skate at all, so this video is awesome because pic skating is very different from rolling skating! Thank you very much for your help!
Thank you so much! I have only been skating for a couple weeks and these tutorials have really helped me. I started on a basketball court and now I am street skating, even a bit downhill!
so happy and thankful for these videos!! got a pair of skates after wanting some for the last 11 years and i’ve been nervous to use them for the first time since i’ve never skated, but i got pads and a helmet and i’m just gonna go for it!
As always, SO good! And I have to say I felt so seen when you said skating outdoors is scary! 😆 For awhile I thought something was wrong with me for being nervous rolling around my neighborhood. But learning from your previous outdoor skating video, I focused more on the staggered stance and it changed my game! So thank you!
I agree with this! I’m on day 17 of my daily skate challenge and i haven’t skated on my street yet because I’m scared! But after this video maybe today I’ll venture onto my street for the first time!
I just got a pair a few days ago and I am way to confident... I kept repeating in my head be fearless girl... In my mind I thought I looked like you 😌 but in reality my legs were shaking no balance watsoever and my husband said i was all the way leaning forward im surprised i didnt eat it lmaooo 🤣 Anywhozles thank you I love your skate tutorials 👏🏾 By 2022 I should be a pro skater & by then I can drive up to huntington beach to skate at your rink!!! In the meantime its day 3 i got my knee pads on, your videos on repeat & im ready to get back out there wish me luck 🤞🏾😆
Exactly what happened to me lol in my mind I was skating like when I was 12 but just got my skates today and had a hard time lol but I am determined!!! 😂 lol
I used to skate in my 20ies...Now I'm 44 and start all over again with my 7 year old daughter (she insisted I HAVE to skate with her :) I thank God for creating you and you for creating your videos!! They are a rescue! Greeting from Greece ❤ P.S. We're skating only outdoors...there is not even the idea of a skating hall here.
I love you... I haven't skated in 40 yrs. Yes I'm 62 and use to compete in the 70s and 80s. I'm trying to start skating all over again your tutorials are marvellous.
I'm so lucky my town has so many fantastic outdoor skating locations we have an old railway line that has been turned into a bike path with super smooth asphalt that runs all the way from one end of the town to the other and we also have some great car parks at the sports complex that are really nicely concreted which is good because our roads and footpaths can be quite rough
Thanks for the in-line tip! I was about to switch to inclines just for the crack issue. I will try your trick first. Keep them coming you are super helpful 💗
Bravo! So passionate to helping people skate safely. ..."Your inexplicately fixated on a pebble and making life choices." Thank you so much for putting the fun in fun. Enjoying your content.
This is honestly so helpful!! I just started skating and I can only do it outside rn bc all the rinks are closed, and that in-line tip makes sooo much sense, I can’t wait to try it out. Thank you!!
I shared this video to a Facebook group called Pic that sk8 where a lot of us ice skaters share the trials and tribulations of transitioning to wheels while our rinks are closed. Thank you for the very useful content you put out.
Anita ... I do care. I want skaters to enjoy this as much as I do and I want skaters to be successful in their journey. I know how skating changes lives for the better :)
Wow! I’ve watched countless skating videos over the last week preparing for the arrival of my first pair of quad skates and you are by far, the best instructor. None of the outdoor skating videos I watched ever went over different foot positions or skating techniques based on the terrain. Or how you might combine those different techniques. Most tell you to go around debris. It’s so much more clear to me now, where I need to start in my outdoor skating. I like the idea of picking a convenient and maybe quiet location devoid of a lot of traffic, to practice until more confident in your skills. You are ridiculously funny too. I was cracking up through this video. 🤣 I ordered the sure grip boardwalk in tan with red wheels. They arrive tomorrow! They are my bday gift to myself! I’m super stoked!
You are the freaking best ! I’m almost 50 and have not skated since I was about 15! I miss it so much and it used to be so easy. With you I know it will be a breeze so soon!!
I skate on rollerblades but I learn so much from Dirty Deb as her teaching method is clear and simple. Wish she was an inlineskate instructor. She's the best.
You are such a great teacher! I've been skating a little for a few years, but I'm so challenged. Nothing comes natural. Haha. People are always like "Just throw yourself into it!", but that never works for me. So hearing you, a VERY experienced skater, say that it's okay to practise off-skate or on carpet is such a relief. And the way you really break all the movements down. Wow! I feel like going outside right now!
YES! I am going to address that very concept of "just throw yourself into it!" tonight when I go live on TH-cam. I hate that idea for so many reasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the way you make skating so effortless. It is like your skates are motorized. Love your videos, you have been so helpful to this newbe to skating.
I went skating on a walking trail ,it was nicely paved, but it went up and downhill. I could not figure out how to stop downhill, I wore my stopper down on my skates. The only way i could figure out how to stop, was to go for the grass, fell down three times, not good for a 57 year old. lol. So how do i stop when Im outside?
She has a video for that th-cam.com/video/EC9N2BhldII/w-d-xo.html I am also an older skater and that is one thing that I never learned in my youth. HOW TO STOP!
Planet roller skate has a few videos that talk about hill bombing/skating downhill. I’ve tested it on my driveway (small scale) and on an underground car park. I went for the version where you go backward and you use a staggered stance using your toestop of the skate that’s the furthest downhill to control your rate of descent. I found it really easy but haven’t gotten the confidence up yet to go forward downhill yet!
An excellent teacher! Most just wanna show off their expertise and I thank you. I'm going to go to your site to decide what kind of skates I want to buy for the first time. I had life-threatening injuries that they wanted to amputate my lower legs that I escaped the hospital 11 years ago. If I don't wear proper Footwear High legs and back hurt. I actually wear professional dance sneakers in my feet and legs no longer hurt. Now I'm stuck with all these expensive sneakers
I've been working on my split stance and been having fun going over larger bumps and cracks but I think my weight is still mostly in my front foot. I tried to move the weight to the back and it doesn't feel as stable. I'm about 50/50 weight distribution so I can still get over pretty big cracks but I can't lift my front trucks. Working on it :)
I tried roller skating outdoors today for the first time... I fell a lot! After I watched this video, I went back outside and I didn't fall, nor was I scared! Thanks so much!
Perfect! I was just thinking about this. Your right, I am terrified of tripping over pebbles. Thank you so much for helping me find a way to get skating outside again👍💖😘
I’ve been roller skating since the sixties but Covid has forced me outdoors. I first bought a cheap pair of skates and I couldn’t turn on them. I’m hoping that my new skates are going to be better. I’ve had to learn a lot about the mechanics of skates, especially cushions/bushings. The first pair I bought had zero shock absorbency and it actually messed with my knees. I’m thankful for these videos!
Hey Deborah! I have to say you're a huge inspiration for us bigger girls on the East Coast! We don't have that sunny warm Cali weather but watching your videos inside during the winter is getting me through! Plus you look amazing for your age! It only makes me want to keep trying!
I went to your rink about 20 years ago when I was in elementary school for a birthday party . I was so terrible but I had so much fun, I ordered some skates after watching some of indys vids and came across your video , glad there are great instructors from Southern California I can watch and learn from during this pandemic .
I’m 35 and just started back skating last year. I started skating outside this March due to rink closures and you just Confirmed that I’m skating properly outside! I use the staggered stance/ toe up to get over debris and the neighborhood kids are in Awe that I don’t kill myself Lol. Thank You!
Dirty School of Skate I’m in Indiana and the rinks have been open about a month, I got to go on Saturday and You Are Right! I have improved Immensely! Now I’m moving on to more of your vids and making sure I practice Everyday! Thank you so much for teaching the mechanics, just doing something and actually knowing what you’re doing is a world of difference!
I just bought a new pair of skates and I was shocked by how difficult it was skating outdoors compared to roller blades. So happy to practice today now that I found this video.
ive just took up roller skating and I cannot be thankful enough for coming across your channel, your videos have been so helpful and I've been watching them religiously ever since lol! thanks again, keep up the good energy!
I’ve been binge watching your videos! I can’t wait to get my skates and hopefully visit your Rink when the stay at home order lifts! Thanks for your awesome videos!!! 💖
I just ordered my very first pair of skates LAST NIIIGHT (Sure Grip Fame outdoor package in white *sigh*)!!! And I am binge-watching you and Indy Jamma Jones like a crazy person. You're a wonderful teacher and I love your content! Thanks for all you do!
Hi Debbie! Thank you SO MUCH for all your awesome videos. I’m just getting started skating and you are an incredible instructor. I wish I could learn from you in person! But these videos are hugely helpful! You’re the only instructor I watch :) The best!!
I can’t wait to get my skates but in the mean time I’m watching your awesome videos to get me ready for my first time in a super loooong time skate day😊. Ty! 👍🏽👍🏽
I’ve been using my older sisters massive roller skates and I’ve managed to do so much such as lift my right foot upwards and roll forward aimlessly, and I wish I can do this outside but I’m wearing Chicago skates and they are very bad for outdoors and extreme like skating so oh well. Turns out learning things inside is a lot more better then outside.
So great!!! Thank you!! I went around my small town looking for places to skate and found a huge public place but it has a lot of these grass lines so this was REALLY helpful to me! Woohoo
I have been watching all different instructors. By far you are the most detailed and helpful teacher. You gave me anxiety tho for myself going over Thats metal pavement. But yet hope. Thank you!
You're amazing! Because of your instructions, I was able to skate again after I thought I'd never be able too! Slowly but surely I'm regaining it! Thank you😍
Just started watching your videos today after they were recommended by other skaters online and now I can't stop! These are so informational, yet easy to follow, and I love your personality and spirit! I've just started skating (exclusively outdoors) and this really helped me see what I was struggling with and how to solve it. Thanks for making these videos and helping this newbie out!
I'm from germany and currently waiting for my very first skates. The terrain here is always rough and very uphill downhill.. so thank you so much for these videos! One foot in front of the other will definetly sabe my life (and bum). Can't wait!
I got my roller skates for my birthday back in august. I've been doing casual inline skating ever since I was a kid so I thought how different can it be... boy was I wrong! I fell and broke my wrist the first time I tried them and have been scared to get back on ever since. Now that I discovered your channel I've been binge watching all the videos and feel so motivated and ready to learn!!
I love love love the way you explain things. Really easy to understand to beginners(like me) who are just starting out. I’m waiting for my skates to come in I just ordered them two days ago. Can’t wait!
That is so funny, things you do skating outside automatically..the inline foot thing just blew my mind. My big little and I skated in our neighborhood yesterday and I do these things!!!! I so wish when I was in Long Beach I had the chance to come and visit your rink!!!!
It’s my 4 day of skating and I learned how to skate backwards and only fell three times 😝 pretty proud of myself. I’ve been skating on the basketball court for about 2-3 hours a day
Thank you for this video! I had watched another one of your videos about skating outdoors but feel this one was much more helpful in seeing how you position your feet and how your back leg knee supports the front when going over cracks/debris. I've been skating outdoors at a school where the pavement is pretty smooth, so i'll have really practice this the coming week.
The one dislike is the moss in the cracks that got runover.
😂😂😂
hahahahahhaha! I have to get a dislike; it validates all the likes :)
Those are grass though😅
Those effortless spins give me life
Awww thank you!

Sure:) I love protective gear. I wear it at the skate park.
Anybody know where I can get some protective gear for fat people? I bought the largest I could find on Amazon and it fits me snugly but my BF is fat and muscular so it was a no 😢
@@BP-yg4lr same I skated inside until my helmet came still haven't fallen and its day 5 but I know it's coming and when it does I'm ready haha
@@creshiell moxi. Its preorder right now but they have the Thick set that is bigger than the l/xl
creshiell fellow fat skater here. What works for me is getting pads with straps and just buying 1” black elastic and extending them myself :)

hows your progress going...
Same!!! Busted my ass on my first attempt and went back home to wait for my pads
When I saw your videos I wanted to go skating so my parents bought skates for me and my mom bought a pair too. It’s so much fun!!!!! 😁⛸🛹
Awwww yeah! So glad you can skate together :)

Ohh i wanna skate with my kids too when i have sum
You have a type of charisma that's very attractive
Thank you very much :)
Right?! I can’t get enough of her. I wish she lived near me so I could learn from her in person 😩
Hi indian hehe 😏😂
Mr.dirty is a lucky man 🤣
Agreed
"windy sound effects for that REAL outdoor feel " LOL.. I love your sense of humor and the way you teach
It's called, being unpretentious and it's THE most attractive quality a human can have. DD's got it in spades! 😍

I'm just glad you are not a pole dance instructor, cause I know I would be trying out everything you teach.

This is great! Can you make a video on how to strengthen your weak leg? I feel so unstable on my none dominant leg.
Great suggestion!
I also need this

I like the idea of picking a convenient and maybe quiet location devoid of a lot of traffic, to practice until more confident in your skills. You are ridiculously funny too. I was cracking up through this video. 🤣
I ordered the sure grip boardwalk in tan with red wheels. They arrive tomorrow! They are my bday gift to myself! I’m super stoked!
You are the freaking best ! I’m almost 50 and have not skated since I was about 15! I miss it so much and it used to be so easy. With you I know it will be a breeze so soon!!
Oh I am so excited for you!!
I skate on rollerblades but I learn so much from Dirty Deb as her teaching method is clear and simple. Wish she was an inlineskate instructor. She's the best.
I used to go to the Fountain Valley rink as a child! I’m just starting back up after 20 years. Thank you for the great video!
That is awesome!
Love your videos, you have been so helpful to this newbe to skating.
this is really nice that your sharing this with me im 48, years young and waiting for my skates to arrive now... thank you for your help..💕
@@aquaopa1 thanks kizzy
Planet roller skate has a few videos that talk about hill bombing/skating downhill. I’ve tested it on my driveway (small scale) and on an underground car park. I went for the version where you go backward and you use a staggered stance using your toestop of the skate that’s the furthest downhill to control your rate of descent. I found it really easy but haven’t gotten the confidence up yet to go forward downhill yet!
I will revisit this topic for sure. Stay tuned.
Great to hear!
How can i like this 1000000 time... Did you know that this video will help some one 2yrs later. Thnks Debby. Love from Kenya
Perfect! I was just thinking about this. Your right, I am terrified of tripping over pebbles. Thank you so much for helping me find a way to get skating outside again👍💖😘
You are so welcome!
It only makes me want to keep trying!
your nails in that red looks sooo gorgeous!!! i can't stop looking at them !!
Awww thank you. You know I am dying right now because I can not get to the nail lady :(
I went to your rink about 20 years ago when I was in elementary school for a birthday party . I was so terrible but I had so much fun, I ordered some skates after watching some of indys vids and came across your video , glad there are great instructors from Southern California I can watch and learn from during this pandemic .
Welcome back! You are going to have so much fun.
I’m 35 and just started back skating last year. I started skating outside this March due to rink closures and you just Confirmed that I’m skating properly outside! I use the staggered stance/ toe up to get over debris and the neighborhood kids are in Awe that I don’t kill myself Lol. Thank You!
Oh this is awesome. You are going to be sooooo good when the rink opens back up. Outdoor skating develops soooo many more skating skills.
Nice!! Super excited for you!
Her let me go over all this rough stuff aggressive. I love her. Thank you for this video
I love your videos. I was a great skater when I was young. I'm 50 and just bought a pair. Hoping it's going to all come back. This helped, thank you!
Hi Debbie! Thank you SO MUCH for all your awesome videos. I’m just getting started skating and you are an incredible instructor. I wish I could learn from you in person! But these videos are hugely helpful! You’re the only instructor I watch :) The best!!
Thanks Dirty….some really useful tips here for beginners like my daughter and I…..can’t wait to practice these at the weekend. 😊
I can’t wait to get my skates but in the mean time I’m watching your awesome videos to get me ready for my first time in a super loooong time skate day😊. Ty! 👍🏽👍🏽
I'm from Melbourne, Australia, taking up skating again. You're soo ace! Thanks for everything you post and NEVER STOP! Stay safe, love you to bits! 😘
Awesome! Thank you!
You literally are the most amazing woman on TH-cam!!! Just bought my skates and am glued to your tutorials!! Thanks for all the energy 👏🎉🔥💥
Woohoo
Shout out to Dirty from South Australia 🤟🐨 Your enthusiasm for skating is contagious 🙌🙌🙌 Love your stuff!
Thank you😍
Great to hear!
“Put your weight on your back foot”
Me: *slips and falls on her back
Put weight on back foot NOT rock your body weight to the back of your heel.
Welcome aboard! I am so happy for you to start out on this journey!!!
Have you ever heard of REXING, San Diego, Ca Early 60's ? Boy and girl both skating backwards as a couple1 It's a trip!!
Yep. I started skating in the early 70's. My grandmother was a rexing champ!
I love your enthusiasm! Thank you so much for all the great tips.
Thank you, I love your teaching style. I’ve skated inside but want to skate outside on rail trails. I subscribed and will practice.
I am so sorry to hear that you were injured. I hope you try again and take it nice and easy to build confidence.
I love love love the way you explain things. Really easy to understand to beginners(like me) who are just starting out. I’m waiting for my skates to come in I just ordered them two days ago. Can’t wait!
YEah!!! I am sooooo excited for you.
Fantastic video! Thankyou so much from the UK!! I'm new to skating but your video has been really helpful, thanks again! I've subscribed!
I’ve been skating on the basketball court for about 2-3 hours a day
That is great!!!!
I fucking love how graceful you are. I can literally watch you all day.
Awww thank you :)
Thanknyou for your very informative and relaxed way of teaching.
Glad it was helpful!
You make it look easy and I love that your older like me am.jist trying to get back into it
