Messi is 35 years old. He did look great in the Wold Cup. But we have NEVER seen a 35 year old play like this before.
Most great players retire before that age. Gareth Bale, who many consider the best British footballer of all time, retired a few days ago, at the age of 33. He wasn't injured or anything. He's just done. The reason Messi is still playing at this level is because he is a football genius, and has reinvented his game to be more of a playmaker, because he is so good at creating chances and making passes. I think he has at least 1-2 more years at this level.
The one you said “look at the lateral movement” if you look carefully or find another video about that goal, you will see that Messi touches the ball in the air with he foot but in an imposible way. Thierry Henry explains it too, he literally on the same step touches the ball in the air with the outer LEFT SIDE part of his left foot and then instantly touches the ball with the RIGH SIDE part of is foot creating an instant bounce pass to his right foot and scoring, all In a second.
He wasn't always a winner, it took him many years to win international trophy, but that what make him the greatest - he always went back to try again until he achieved his dream!

Pele only has over a thousand goals if you count friendlies. His official tally is in the 700's and Messi already surpassed him years ago.

Ronaldo may have faired better than Messi in the 1960's but Messi would have been broke in half by the defenders in those day's.
