    I have to point out that the 270 is famous for the 130 grain bullet. Using a 150 grain bullet in a 270 is like using a 180 grain bullet in a 06. The 130 in bullet is the gold standard in 270 win. Light recoil with almost magnum performance.

    Good video, it's obvious the 270 has more energy...but I would still like to have a 243 I'm considering buying one when i get a few small Bill's paid off....I think the military needs to go to a .243 in AR platform for longer range shooting past 400 yards nothing wrong with 223 up to 350 yards...A 243 I think is the perfect deer rifle up to 200 yards..just whatever a person prefers many calibers for
    deer hunting, just don't need a super powefull rifle for most deer hunting....

      WHO_TEE_WHO , Partition has 2 chambers in it w a copper formed middle seperating the front expanding part from the rear chamber filled w lead that pushes the bullet on through even if the nose part shears off. GREAT bear bullet! Expansion & penetration. The brass case looks like an H with the nose tapered into the ogive. I think the rear section is hard cast lead w the nose part being softer blend. Excellent "thumpers".

    Try shooting the 270 with a 130-grain bullet! The 130 grain actually has more energy as well as more velocity at 100yds as compared to a 150-grain bullet! I would like to see a comparison of a 300 wsm, a 7mm wsm. In addition to a comparison between 300 win mag and a 7mm rem mag. I have found that inside of 100 yds the 300wsm and the 300 win mag have more energy. However, beyond 100 yards the 7mm wsm and the 7mm rem mag have both energy and velocity advantages!

    I own both & pretty much exclusively use 150gr for my 270 for red deer & large hogs. But mainly use lighter bullets in to 243 60gr to 75gr . I have used 80gr federal power shocks on goats , medium pigs & it works fine. I really believe the 243 with 80gr Barnes or hornady gmx would be very good allrounders. I picked up 1600 Lehigh defence 60gr controlled chaos projectiles for a good price so I'll make do with them. My 243 is my large varmint or spotlighting rifle.

    The 270 is a fine round and packs a little more wallop than often credited for due to that velocity/mass balance...there is a reason why some of us think about 25-06 or 7mm08 as we get older and want less recoil! However, reducing hunting rifle recoil with a different caliber still would not keep me from shooting my 45-70 from time to time. Thanks.

But being a Vietnam Veteran (1st Inf Div) I would like to see what an M-16 (5.56 U.S. forces) vs a 7.62x 39 (AK47 Viet Cong) could do to those milk jugs. I know the reasoning behind the Infantry using .22 caliber ammo but do not understand the reasoning behind using a high velocity round, which is easily deflected, in jungle combat.

    • @anthonyspanjich2772
      @anthonyspanjich2772 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep.... if there's hostages / innocents around - you want to hope your aim is good and then you want to dump all your energy into the "target".... so anyone behind them is unlikely to be killed. Hence I think they have it right choosing 223 (but should have 2 bullet choices available - one fragmentation for non armour wearing baddies and armour piercing rounds if absolutely necessary). But you're right - 270 is a brilliant (too good for normal SWAT use) round - just a bit heavy on barrel life. PS - do you know that 243 was used by SWAT teams in earlier years - Quote and source:
      In a non-sporting context, bolt-action rifles chambered for the .243 were utilized by the Los Angeles Police Department's special weapons And tactics (SWAT) unit during its early years.[5] A specialist 115 grain projectile can move up to 3,150 fps from a 28-inch barrel, or over 3,000 fps from a 26-inch barrel.[6]
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.243_Winchester
      I can tell you that unless you toss the geneva convention in the bin (ie nothing but FMJ acceptable), this would easily over penetrate and kill someone behind the intended target too. If 2 Roo's lined up and I was shooting FMJ's, I'd easily get both. No such problem with 70-80 grain Nosler Varmint or VMax rounds..... they reliably bust up inside Roo No 1 and at worst, only "bits" make it out the other end - unlikely to be deadly thereon. However - sheer, utter carnage inside Mr Roo 1 and way better than 223 (I changed up). Cheers from Oz

      Hi Mike - yes, brilliant round also. I found that past 400m, my 223 was "lacking" a bit. Both 243 and 270 are exceptionally flat shooting rounds also - nowhere near the drop of 308's etc. Makes hunting so much easier but both are barrel burners unfortunately.... you can't have everything. Oh, my mates 220 swift was exceptional - but even worse barrel burner! haha

      Have you considered using cinder blocks for your table? You already use them, make a short "wall" of them, as long as what you have, with a 2x8 on top. I guess the right round could still break the wood, and/or veer down and break a cinder block.
