    I've spent a cumulative hour today watching your masterclasses. If you had told me a day ago that I'd spend that much time watching someone teach me how to iron, I'd have said you were crazy. But here we are!

    Patrick was one of my first bespoke tailor too! What a blast from the past for me. I think he made me 2 suits in the late 90s. He did not have a moustache then. Thanks for the video.

    as a total novice i quickly discovered the worst creases are made by improper laundering, and that if i hang my trousers to dry correctly i can make life a lot easier for myself, and dramatically reduce the amount of ironing i need to do.

    Such informative, yet easily digestible content is so rare to find these days. At first I thought the master tailor was speaking Vietnamese, based on the tone, yet it turns out he's a Cantonese speaker. As a European learning Vietnamese, that was a fascinating discovery!

    Respect from Shanghai, China. I have been interested in the bespoke tailorship for the last two months and have been learning about all aspects of knowledge of this industry. You channel is very great and inspiring and I also have learned a lot from them. Thanks for your efforts and I know that WW Chan also has chain stores in Shanghai and Chengdu in Mainland China. It was called the Red Gang tailorship and was orignated from Shanghai and started its HongKong career since the 1950s. Will definitely buy their prodcuts and service soon in Shanghai. Of course when this pandemic finishes, I will also visit the Armoury tailorship and masters when I visit Central, HongKong!

    Loved this! Picked up quite a few useful tips on when and how to use the steam function on the iron - up till now I've just been pressing down on the crease with the steam running but clearly that's bad technique! - so thanks very much for arranging the video. Would love to see Patrick back (maybe on the extent that jackets can be maintained at home?) but until then, are there any garment brush makers that you would recommend?

    • @markchodotcom
      @markchodotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I used to make that mistake, too. The idea is to dampen the cloth with steam then completely dry it out. One really interesting point was making sure that even after you've finished ironing a leg, you should leave the trousers for some 10-20 seconds for it to cool down.

    What does Patrick use for the pressing cloth? What dimensions (length/width) do you/Patrick recommend for it?

    • @markchodotcom
      @markchodotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a little square of leftover cotton cloth, about 40x40 cm. All you're looking to do with this piece of cloth is prevent the iron from directly touching the garment. Cotton withstands heat better than wool which is why we use cotton. It doesn't need to be particularly thin or thick, even an old pocket square or a cut up old shirt would be ok.

  • @jttorres2089
    @jttorres2089 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is anyone aware of the pressing cloth he is using?

  • @jeffanco9367
    @jeffanco9367 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This probably a dumb question but I’ll ask anyway. Is a pressing cloth just a piece of cotton fabric?

    • @markchodotcom
      @markchodotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's correct! It's to prevent the very hot iron from being in direct contact with the garment. You can use anything reasonably thin, like a cotton handkerchief.

      When the fabric gets glossy/shiny, I think :)

    • @markchodotcom
      @markchodotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we didn't have a better word for it. It's when you run an over-hot iron directly over wool too much and the fabric becomes shiny.
