They are the most determined dog I have ever owned. Their courage is limitless until they day they draw their last breath. My Jack Russell taught me alot. I still miss Conan and so does the whole family. Smart dog, good family member. Heart of a warrior. It's been 5 1/2 months since his death and he lived to be 17 year s old. I loved that dog. He stayed headstrong to the end.
My favorite dog is the Chihuahua, but I do realize that they are not for everybody. Of course you have to teach children how to treat any animal, but Chis are easily hurt . I had an 18 month old Chi when my youngest son was born. She adopted my baby the day I brought him home from the hospital and watched over his baby and toddlerhood from that day on. My son was a strapping teenager when that Chi died at age 18 and in her last illness, her beloved boy was the only one that could get her to eat. My grandchildren love the Chi that I have now and she absolutely adores them!
My Jack Russel was the best dog I ever had but he was a lot of work, if I left him alone too long he would find a way to escape he jumped up on top of the kitchen counter then on top of the refrigerator and opened the window and let himself out. He then went searching for me and he traveled half way across the city crossing many very busy streets he went to his mother and sisters house where their owner called me and told me he was there. He did that again once and I nailed the window shut. When I was gone to work he would cry and howl and sounded just like a baby and I got a visit from child protective services wanting to know why I had left my baby in the house. One day we were driving down the street and went past his favorite park and he jumped out of the window to chase squirrels. Another day we were on a walk and he got out of his collar and ran down the street and went into a bar and jumped up on a barstool for a drink of water. Once he ran out the door because he saw a squirrel and he ran right into the street and a car came and drove right over him he ducked down and missed getting squashed I can’t get that picture out of my head. The thing he loved the most was me he would lay in my arms all night and was the sweetest little boy he loved to be wrapped in a baby blanket and he thought he was a baby so spoiled he hated me watching tv or videos or working on the computer and when he got mad he would run over and pee on the vcr. He blew up 3 vcrs like that. Overall he was my best friend faithful and loyal to a tee I miss him so much and sometimes he visits me in my dreams.
I also had a amazing Jack Russell 😊 he lived for 18 years and was my best friend I still can't believe he's gone 😢 to me he was more than a dog and filled my life with so much fun and love 💜
SAME LOL!!!!🤣 My tiny deerhead Chi is not mean and never growls at people but she is the most spiteful lil bitch (literally) when she doesn't like something. I can't help but to love her regardless and can't stay mad at her long no matter what because she's still such a funny lovebug......huhhh🙄😏
Thank you for featuring the ACD! When I was breeding Heelers, if people would call on a puppy and ask “do they shed?” “How big do they get?” I would instantly tell them, “You need to find another breed of dogs!” I want my pups to have forever homes! You have to know exactly what your getting!
My Jack Russell was a very good dog, easy going and loyal. He was a rescue that I took in when I was younger and he became *my* dog, not the family dog. He started out with a lot of behavioral issues where he was weary and seemingly aggressive towards strangers, couldn't have another pet, etc. But with time he started adoring strangers wanting everyone to pet him, LOVED children and liked people giving him belly rubs. We actually got a rabbit and bird later in his life who adored him. I sadly lost him in December when he was 14 years old, and I miss him so much. It took a while for my bird to get over the loss of him as well, as there was a noticeable shift once Milo suddenly didn't sleep next to his cage anymore. I would give up so much to have him back, and I absolutely love and advocate for the breed as they're amazing dogs. I would love to have another Jack Russell sometime in the future, but for now I get way too sad when I see them ❤
I think they included 'medium dogs' because I would not consider the Shiba small dogs either. Border collies can be as small as 30 pounds though so they aren't exactly large.
My first love was a fox terrier, gifted by a friend after my dad suffered a heart condition, he said dogs can help people heal. He was right, but ohh little did we knew the traits of a terrier. Rolly was witty, super energetic, very smart, loved hanging around his humans, loved a good long game of tug of war, and had a super sense of hunting (he had hunted numerous spiders and mice, and tried to take down a king cobra once when he was just a pup). Seeing videos about JRT reminds me so much of him. We lost him a week after his 9th birthday, far back on 2012, due to cancer, but we still miss him until this very day. We quickly learned that terriers aren't for beginner dog owners, but now we'd adopt a terrier any day.
My first dog was a Basenji. I got him at 12 weeks old and trained him in the ways of my single person household. They need to be crated when you’re not there but he never gave me any problems whatsover. You should, however, be able to walk him at a fast pace (on leash). They’re not for the lazy. They’re barkless and odorless....., very clean little guys (or girls).
You are right about that! I eventually moved to the woods (lol) and he would explore and loved it! The true hound came out in him! We have a no leash law out here but lots of other dogs he could play with! So the last 7 years if his life he had a blast. Treats could get him to come back or telling him we were going to town he would be at that truck in a flash! Lol! Miss him awful!
I own a Pomeranian and had two other Poms who died naturally and all three were great with kids. The children were taught from the get go, one from a baby to never tease them or take their toys, and the youngest granddaughter as a new born was raised with all three, two of them were older, and made the adjustment just fine. I made sure that they were with me and her when I was holding her, and they never felt left out, the same with Teddy now. I have never had an incident. Teaching respect on both sides is the answer. Teddy loves my granddaughter and will protect her if she gets a time out. LOL He also likes to sleep with her.
Actually my Jack Russel loved small animals and birds. She was there when our kittens were born and our budgie loved riding her. The only animal she hated was squirrels.
Hi! I adopted a JRT from our local shelter and he's a great dog!!! We love him so very much!!!❤️He was 8 yrs old when I adopted him and he's now 11. His previous owns did a great job training him!! He's a super happy dog that is full of energy!!!! He loves to cuddle and give kisses!! The only issue is that he does not like to be corrected but since he loves his treats we can easily redirect him with the goodies😄 With the right training JRTs make great dogs and I'd get another one in a heartbeat!!!!👍🏼😍
The first dog I was ever fully responsible for is my Shiba inu (we had 2 family dogs but they were mainly my moms) but let me tell you, he was such a challenge to train but totally worth it and I think a great experience, I was 13 when I got him and he definitely taught me a lot or responsibility and patience
Once again you have produced a video that is both informative and essential to all would - be dog purchasers. You really are helping new owners to choose which breed of dog they should rule out. This could and will save much heartbreak and expense farther down the line, not to mention wrongly chosen pets abandoned or left in shelters with a bleak outlook on their very survival. Good on you mate. I wish you rainbows of course.
10 Me "Jack Russell's ain't on this list!" 8 Husband "Watch it! I think top 3!" 3 Me "See, still no Jacks!" 1 Me "Well then...." I have 2 Jacks, a 10 year old and a 6 month old. They are crazy, but I love them 💜💚
Not gonna lie, I have a basenji. She’s the most amazing dog ever. She’s come so far since having two litters by 8 months old as a stray, from hating other dogs as my dog to being cautious but good around them. She’s the type to both run around having fun all day and sleep all day too.
Omg I'm so jealous! I would love another! I love that breed! My son found him and told me to check it out to buy him. I had no idea what it was. The first time he yodelled we thought he was hurt! Lol coolest breed ever!!
My first dog was a Jack Russell and I loved her, but she was, indeed, so much work. She was so easy to train, had so much energy and was so curious. She hated other dogs and the only time I couldn't make her stop doing something she wasn't supposed to was everytime people walked past our fence. She would bark like crazy and not stop until she couldn't see or hear anyone anymore. She also had seperation anxiety from just me out of my entire family, which was hard since I was usually the last to leave in the morning. However, the best dog I've ever owned.
Pom Mom here, I remember when we first got our Pomeranian from the shelter. She needed a firm hand to know where her place was, but now she's a well adjusted girl. She needs an eye on her so she won't chase the cats too and a firm voice when she tries to anyways. I had to tell my mom that she needs a firm voice and hand for training. It took a little bit, but my Mom has also learned :) Pomeranians are also known barkers. Our neighbors have a Pomeranian and they love having 'yelling contests' at each other so we've eventually learned to not let our girl out when the neighbor dog is out. We plan on getting an English Cream Golden Retriever in the future as a companion dog for our Pomeranian.
I have a Jack Whippet- which is a Jack Russell x Whippet cross and he’s one of the best dogs I’ve ever had. Lucky for us, he loves cats and understands that pets inside the house are not for hunting but if I hadn’t had the knowledge to train him that, he probably would try to eat them. He’s got that Jack energy and prey drive but the Whippet speed and friendliness (and occasional calmness). He’s the perfect mash and he knows it. Couldn’t have asked for a better pup 💕
Yes lol An ACD is hardly a small dog lol. They’re a medium size dog. I’m looking at my ACD right now and he’s offended you called him small. Both the males and females average weight is over 30 pounds sooooo lol you’re way off target here.
@@Deevo037 Having two corgis, very low maintence and no problems with them. They just need to have a lot of movement. For sure they don't qualify to be in that list.
Potential dog owner should view this, including those who are planning to rescue, as some of these are common breeds found in mixed breed rescues. Albeit, individual personalities often trump breed characteristics.
Yes! Our good boi is a dachshund/Jack Russell mix who is sweet, tender, energetic, super smart and also friendly aggressive, reactive and stubborn when it comes to what he wants. We love him to bits and are currently using positive training techniques but he can be a handful of one isn’t attentive. I wouldn’t change him for the world and totally agree with everything you wrote!
My Chihuahua English bulldog puppy is the sweetest. She loves everyone. Shes always happy to meet new people, loves when we have visitors & she doesn't have a favorite family member
Everything about the jack russell is accurate hahha. Used to have one while growing up called Liten which means little in swedish (since he was the youngest in the litter but grew and got really big, like freakishly long legs.) We used to live at a farm and had hens that he got really along with and would protect. He hated cats tho, soon as he saw one he would bolt right after it. He would be a nuisance to train, only listening to me if I bribed him with treats. He passed away around 5-6 years ago and I still miss him to this day. Jack russells may be stubborn and a nuisance but are the most loyal and loving dogs.
Thank you soo much this is helpful info. Have had a Pomeranian for years love him beyond words. My first dog. I learned the hard way. Now in a different home, he's receptive and lovable.
All terriers require a firm hand and total consistency. They will definitely try to be the alpha dogs in the family if you let them! Terriers are my favorite group, and I've had an Airedale, a Silky and a Yorkie, so I know them well.
Thank you for adding the Dachshund to the list. Many novice dog owners get them because they are cute but then dump them because they can't handle them. I am a professional dog trainer, CGC evaluator and AKC Judge. I have over 40 years experience with dogs. I have dachshunds and love them to death. I use them for many different things from hunting to tracking to service dog work. BUT they are a challenge and NOT for inexperienced dog owners. BTW. Why do you list Border Collies, Shiba Inus and Basenji's as small dogs? They are medium sized dogs. NOT a small or toy breed.
Sussie Due we have a Chiweenie (Toon), and she is the most intelligent, loving and hilarious dog I have ever known! She was very simple to potty train using consistency and praise, and will do about anything we ask, so long as we make it fun! The one thing I have yet to train her to do however? Come when called!!! Yes the simplest command around...and she says “nope-you chase me!” We never DO chase her and instead have to resort to other means but she lives to be chased and must’ve thought that was the best way to get chased-don’t come when called! 😂😂
@@WhoShe1973 Teaching them to come is hard because you are dealing with two hunting breeds there. Both the Chihuahua and the Dachshund. But it can be done. You just have to work at it.
That's the only thing I hate bout this vid is how many medium breeds are on it. Not like there aren't enough small or toy breeds to fill it. The min pin could've been on it as well as any number of the terriers
My chihuahua, Zoe, is definitely my dog, but she loves everyone in the family. She "trained" all four grandchildren to handle her with care when each was young. She would nip their fingers until they knew how to "behave". Now she has four very obedient humans who are absolutely in love with her!
Although, actually my basenji comes right back when he gets out, but he was trained by my vizsla. (Plus escapees who come when called get the best treats)
Love your list. I saw the Big dog one and commented and found this video spot on. Ive owned Border collies, Austrian cattle dogs/Queensland Heelers and JRT and Jacks are the most challenging. Nice video ty for the channel.
i had three pekingese at the same time, and they were all completely different. one was aggressive and wouldn’t let anyone touch him. one was really independent and the other was a complete sweetheart and let me dress him up when i was little lol
My first dog was a JRT. She was a working dog, and was a fantastic family dog. She taught my second dog, a half blind rescue pug to be a successful mouser. Easiest dog I've ever trained, as well.
I got given a jack Russel as a puppy, a wonderful dog, but by the time he was one I had an 8ft fence that he could still get over, wire meash dug into the ground under the fence to stop him going under, my lounge turned into a playground for when I had to leave him alone! Luckily my uncle owned a farm and ended up training him to be a ratter which he loved as he needed the space, and a job to do to make him happy!
**cough** Jack Russell was my first dog **cough** He’s very smart and wasn’t actually that hard to care for. **shrug** 🤣😂🤣😂 (Love the videos, keep em up :P)
My first dog was/still is a Jrt-mix. He was hard the first two years, then he became the best dog ever. He is 8 now and I wouldn't trade him for the world.
How many Border Collies does it take to change a light bulb? Just one. "...And while I was at it, I brought that substandard wiring up to code..." likewise the Norwegian Elkhound.
I totally agree with everything that you said! While I am not familiar with traits of all of these dogs, the ones that I am familiar with, you are spot on! Thanks for another great video.
My 13 yo JRT died a few weeks ago. He was a fabulous little fella, with a unique personality. Miss him so much. I love JRTs.such fun who with a bit of firm handling are quite comparable with cats.
We have a Pomeranian Chihuahua that we inherited from an uncle. He definitely did not respect us at the beginning and now pretty much treats us as roommates that feed him and walk him. When we first brought him home he would steal food from our hands and refuse to listen to anything we said. Now he still doesn’t listen to anything we say but he is too old and blind to steal food from us and has mellowed out. He just sleeps all day and when we say food or walk he responds. We call him by his name for anything else and he will just glance at you like saying “why are you bugging.”
i love my Pekingese. She is my 4th one and although stubborn and hard to potty train they are very loyal and loving. She loves kids and other dogs so it's all how you bring them up.
I own a Jack Russel and I love her to pieces. She is hyper when she wants to be but she mainly sleeps and has done that ever since she was a puppy. Though she can be stubborn at times especially when it comes to wanting what you have to eat. She loves people though she barks at them more then anything. Other dogs she goes nuts and even other animals like deer and squirt owls she goes off on. As for cats she wants to come up and sniff to see if they will do anything to her first. But once she gets a swap she leaves them alone. My baby is 10 years old now and she has a hard time getting up on things and have to help her in bed but I wouldn’t change her for the world.
I had 2 Jack Russell/ Border Collie mixes from the same litter. They were weird dogs when it came to training. I could get either to go bring the other to me, not to beg for food or even touch my plate (food comes from the floor, not the sky), and go wherever I pointed. We never could master sit, stay, speak, or down though.
Honestly it took me 3 years to fully potty train my chi, it was hard. He’s the most loving thing to almost everything, he LOVES all people, he loves every cat he’s ever met and loves dogs to. However when out on a walk you wouldn’t think he likes dogs, if he sees one on the other side of the street, 10 feet ahead he loses his mind 😅. He’s also not good at being left alone, but I think that’s due to lack of proper training on my part.
I had a Minpin for 16 years. She was the world's most perfect dog, IF you are willing to spend the first 2 years enforcing the idea that you are the one in charge. And willing to spend a great deal of time socializing her. She was funny, active, loved everyone including children( the reason for all the socialization efforts). She was the only dog I ever had who would trot into the vets ,her tail wagging, and go back to the bordering area. Calm with no bad habits. She went everywhere with me, including thru snow drifts when she was 3 months old.
I agree with the Basenji. it isn't the first dog my dad got, but it's still wasn't the best choice for him. We all still love him anyway. His name is Addie, short for Adderall. You can probably tell what he's like just from his name. Also, he's very independent and he doesn't do things that you ask sometimes because he just doesn't want to at the moment. You have to learn to just leave it be.
Wow! Now I know why I was so unsuccessful with most of my pets, the dogs that I have chosen were mostly the ones depicted in this video. Will not repeat the mistake. Thank you!
Border Collies may not be great for first time owners or people without a lot of time and space, but Border Collie mixes are great! My dog is a black lab/GSD/border collie mix and she's sweet, smart, well behaved, chill, good with people & cats & most other dogs, and was incredibly easy to train. She'll be 12 in December and she shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Did you do a lot of research on the breed before even considering to get one? I wanted one until I learned it wouldn't be the best fit for my household. We must remember, it's not just what WE want but what will be best for the animals we adopt! Hope all goes well 😊
MiaMore Oh of course, my plan was to actually get a golden retriever but I got a shiba instead. I live in the country so he has a lot of land he can run around and get his energy out and he’s enrolled in training class that will start next month. I think I made the right decision personally because eventually I’ll be moving into an apartment and most apartments do allow the breed since they are kind of small and aren’t that noisy.
There a great DOG make sure they get exercise and make sure you train him recall.they love to chase.GOOD LICK SOUNDS LIKE YOU'LL DO FINE.p.s.wait till you hear the shiba scream!
My parents, in their 70's, have 2 Chihuahua's. They are both rescue dogs. The smaller of the 2, absolutely loves me, wants to leave with me every time I go over there. I don't go over very often at all. I've never seen a chi act like this little girl does.
Kim Burns my chi is exactly like that. She loves to cuddle with anyone who will hold her, for as long as they want to hold her. I rescued Grace Kelly three years ago after the loss of my 16 year old Yorkie. Rescuing her was the best thing I’ve ever done. She is around 8 years old (we think).
Both of my jack russells were females. Both were and are very protective of us and weary of strangers, so they make great watch dogs and guard dogs. The first jack russell would stay by side 24/7 when I was a baby. I feel like as long as they feel like they have a job in the family they will usually not wreak havoc.
My next door neighbor, 88 years old, adopted a border collie who was aso VERY SENIOR. They fell in love. Our neighbor wanted to die at home and Lady spent 2 weeks a her beside, quietly with her head on her owner’s arm or hand. It was hard to get her to leave the bedside once her owner passed (who had made careful plans for that day). My point: SFS -Seniors for Seniors. I’m in a nursing home but plan to get out soon because I have nothing , nothing brigs me happiness, to live for but animals. I’ve avoided pain and sickness and suffering, -my wife always handled that horrible last ride to the vet- but it’s time for me to find a dog who will love the over-the top love and spoiling, whether it hurt me or not.
I had a jack russel and now own the similar miniature foxie, very similar traits between them. They can get destructive, and have strong hunting instincts but if you raise them right they can be the best companions. I still would not recommend having other animals with them though, especially small animals, you will not be able to leave them alone together in a majority of cases because of those hunting instincts. These instincts also get many terriors into trouble with dangerous animals such as venomous snakes so it is also good to be cautious and wary if you live in places where dangerous creatures are common :)
I have a Pithuahua. She's half pitbull and half chihuahua. She's a loyal protector, is great with people although the chihuahua in her she barks a lot. She is a great family member. The one bad thing is she barks when me and my lady hug. She wants to be in the hug.
My first dog was and is a chi weenie (not a good choice in hindsight.). Fortunately, she’s an amazing dog, and fits right into my household. Training was a breeze, and she can learn simple tricks (sit, down, BANG/play dead) within a day or two. Also: I don’t like terriers that much. I’m pretty low energy, and terriers are too excitable.
Well... the first dog I ever got (and still own) is a dachshund. Saw this too late but I love her, she’s just SOOOOO barky. And the second dog I have is an Australian Shepherd😬
Great breakdown! Generally, terriers and spitz breeds are going to be strong-willed and independent. I've found that beginners may find spaniel and toy breeds to be better suited for them. No matter what, please do research on your dog breeds before you adopt! Different breeds have different personalities, health concerns, and histories, and the more you know about your dog the more successful your relationship will be!
As a Pommy Mommy I can tell you that the Pom is not a toy and shouldn’t be played with unsupervised with young children. Poms think they’re big but are fragile. It’s not a good mix. Although my Poms love kids. And were very sweet and long suffering with grabby kids. Also just know going into training that A) your dog is smarter than you and everyone else in the classroom. B) your dog will learn all the class material faster than the pace of the class, then get bored, then start amusing himself. But they are worth every second.
The dog I had before my current dog, was a Chihuahua.....and yes, they LOVE to sleep in your lap for hours. I loved his feisty ‘attitude’ too. I always used to say; “CHIHUAHUAS RULE!” The dog I have now, is an EXTREMELY spunky and energetic Parson Jack Russell......LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that dog! I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t tell my husband; “I LOVE THAT DOG!” She is quite the little spitfire! Only weighs 11.7 pounds.....and will be 14 years old in 4 months.....still insists on us throwing her toy constantly down the hallway for her.....which btw.....my husband is throwing for her as I write this. She LIVES to chase her toys! As tiny as she is, when we first got her, when she was slightly over a year old, she jumped to the top of our 6-foot block wall! We had to dig down deeper to prevent her from trying that again. When a Fox came into our yard, she tore after it like a tornado! She’s tiny, cute, funny, entertaining......but ferocious. I LOVE THAT DOG! She’s also the first dog that I ever allowed to sleep in my bed with me. And oh yes, JACKS RULE!
The besenji looked just like my Zeus! He was the best dog I ever had I still miss him! Had him 14 years. He was awesome even the day he passed. Ironically be I got him to be with my Jack Russell Abbie. She passed not too long after I got him. She was good but very stubborn! Lol
Thanks for the video. Although we always had Dachshunds and Jack Russells and they were awesome with kids. Not as interested in kids as the Basset hounds we had, but never agressive. They didnt like the tattoed roofers that were around for a week. But they always could play well with kids.
So many non dog owners come up to me and ask about my shiba. I do whatever I can to convince them to get something easier, but they never listen to that part.
my family's first pet was a dachshund because a friend of ours, whose dachshunds just had puppies that they didn't want to keep all of, let us have one for free. then, the next dog I got to live with (and still do) is my mother-in-law deciding she wanted a kuvasz. hooooooooo boy. my dream breed to own is the Pomeranian, I praying that learning dealing with a dachshund and a kuvasz (especially a kuvasz oh my lord, lol) will help me be well prepared for dealing with a pom! that, and also all the studying I've been doing on the breed. I'm not getting a pom until I don't live with the kuvasz anymore, though :b he plays roughly even with small animals
JRTerrier your couch in half. I have a JRT/BEAGLE,he's a really nice dog. I ended up adopting a cat after my friend passed away. Actually the cat adopted me. I've been trying and trying to get Buddy to at least not try to attack the cat whenever he sees her. She's even tried to befriend him. I keep him on a short leash and call the cat over. She'll come. This could take awhile to get him to accept that the cat probably isn't going anywhere. I was trying to rehome her for awhile. It's hard to rehome a cat.
My Chi was a handful when she was little now since she is older she has mellowed out. But, I am an older single adult and there is no small children around my home most of the time. She does not do well with children, they are much too loud for her, and the quick movements will frighten her. Even louder family members can set her on edge, and she will likely run if scared.
If you're looking for the bigger dogs, they are here th-cam.com/video/Te4zW6ftlU4/w-d-xo.html
Why are you allowing the kid abuse the chihuahua?
They are the most determined dog I have ever owned. Their courage is limitless until they day they draw their last breath. My Jack Russell taught me alot. I still miss Conan and so does the whole family. Smart dog, good family member. Heart of a warrior. It's been 5 1/2 months since his death and he lived to be 17 year s old. I loved that dog. He stayed headstrong to the end.
Brier Rose ❤❤❤
They are the best😍 I have had many JRT and still have 🐶 Check my vids🤗 I cant live without a Jack Russel😆
That’s the Jack Russell temperament.
@Brier Rose I'm sorry for your families loss. 17 years is a great age but it's never long enough.
I know your lost I recently lost (1yr ago) my Yorkshire terrier Jake
Of 17 years miss him everyday also best dog ever
Lady I was dating her brother and family had jack Russell she told never get those dogs they tear up the house and pitbull almost killed it
*Me looking at my chihuahua who literally loves every single person whose come into my house* he’s still an ass tho 😂
SAME LOL!!!!🤣
My tiny deerhead Chi is not mean and never growls at people but she is the most spiteful lil bitch (literally) when she doesn't like something. I can't help but to love her regardless and can't stay mad at her long no matter what because she's still such a funny lovebug......huhhh🙄😏
Exactly! Mine too!
All 5 we're great.
I got two Jacks... everything in the video is true XD But also: they are the most loyal and compassionate dogs, love them to the moon and back.
Who says border collies are small? Lol
EXACTLY!
Neither are heelers
If you train a heeler and boarder collies right they are great dogs. With any dogs they need to be trained. You just have to be the boss with them.
Ya the one I know is quite large, but she is mixed with a bermese mountain dog.
@A G My friends dog is the sweetest dog and loves strangers. But yes a lot of border collies are a bit aggressive.
Thank you for featuring the ACD! When I was breeding Heelers, if people would call on a puppy and ask “do they shed?” “How big do they get?” I would instantly tell them, “You need to find another breed of dogs!” I want my pups to have forever homes! You have to know exactly what your getting!
💯❤️That's being a responsible breeder. Thank you.
I'm so glad you did this list for small dog breeds! Nicely done. Well considered, well written, well edited.
Thank you very much
My Jack Russell was a very good dog, easy going and loyal.
I would love to have another Jack Russell sometime in the future, but for now I get way too sad when I see them ❤
"Small Dogs" "No. 7: Border Collie"...Is there a miniature variation I don't know about?
I think they included 'medium dogs' because I would not consider the Shiba small dogs either. Border collies can be as small as 30 pounds though so they aren't exactly large.
Don't most collies weigh about 50 pounds?
I was expecting a Beagle on this list. Guess jack Russel and Dachshund covered the same issues.
They are the best😍 I have had many JRT and still have 🐶 Check my vids🤗 I cant live without a Jack Russel😆
Thank you very much. That is truly my intention with this series of videos, to keep dogs out of shelters.
My chihuahua loved people. Even people that she had never met. She was one in a million. Also, she rarely barked. I miss her.
My first dog is a jack russell cross chihuahua. She's very loving, clever, and easy to train. She follows me everywhere. She's 6 months old ❤️

Me "Jack Russell's ain't on this list!"

Husband "Watch it! I think top 3!"

Me "See, still no Jacks!"

Me "Well then...."
I have 2 Jacks, a 10 year old and a 6 month old.
Did I see a corgi in the ACD section😂
yes u did lol
Indeed, I'm surprised Corgis aren't in this list.
Alice yep!! Lol I caught that too
Yes lol An ACD is hardly a small dog lol.
High risk high reward they say. I have a Skye and the effort put is doubled in affection, loyalty and being a good dog
I have a Jack Russell chihuahua mix. Yes she is insane. But she loves everyone and everything and is the sweetest dog ever
I have a rat terrier chihuahua mix and she hates other dogs but loves people. 😆
I love my peke, sure she was tough to train but she ended up growing up to be a sweetheart
All terriers require a firm hand and total consistency. They will definitely try to be the alpha dogs in the family if you let them! Terriers are my favorite group, and I've had an Airedale, a Silky and a Yorkie, so I know them well.
The basenji definitely belongs at number three! You nailed the breed’s comical and mischievous personality.
I love the video thanks for the good information keep it up
KevinxRox 246 Thank you very much 🙂
My chihuahua, Zoe, is definitely my dog, but she loves everyone in the family.
Thank you.
My jack was so easy and was my favorite dog in the world.
i had three pekingese at the same time, and they were all completely different. one was aggressive and wouldn’t let anyone touch him. one was really independent and the other was a complete sweetheart and let me dress him up when i was little lol
**cough** Jack Russell was my first dog **cough**
He’s very smart and wasn’t actually that hard to care for. **shrug** 🤣😂🤣😂 (Love the videos, keep em up :P)
The best😍😘 But im a terrier myself so i guess i have no problems with them😂👍 Have had 15 of them😘
I feel like people who own Jack Russells have a completely different dog experience 😂
@Summer Coleman yeah I’m a little bias lmao
@@chueandjulia i have two terriers one jack cross so I get you 🤣
My first dog was/still is a Jrt-mix. He was hard the first two years, then he became the best dog ever. He is 8 now and I wouldn't trade him for the world.
How many Border Collies does it take to change a light bulb?
Just one.
"...And while I was at it, I brought that substandard wiring up to code..."
likewise the Norwegian Elkhound.
I totally agree with everything that you said! While I am not familiar with traits of all of these dogs, the ones that I am familiar with, you are spot on! Thanks for another great video.
Lily Seven Thank you very much 🙂
My 13 yo JRT died a few weeks ago.
Lol. My chi mix ( maybe some pom) sounds similar . A roommate who meets his needs. Yup.
i love my Pekingese.
I figured JRT would make it on this list lol
Love these videos! Keep it up!
Thank you very much. Yeah, Jack's definitely had to be on this list. I've seen too many people struggle with them.
@@AnimalFacts They do, and i kinda dont get it.... but thats because i AM a terrier myself🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂💖😍😘
Ours was amazing and I was fairly new at raising dogs. She was the easiest dog to train that I've worked with.
Thanks for the heads up.
My dad is a first time dog owner and has a chi/Jack Russel mix. He lives peacefully with my dog Eevee and is stubborn.
Kinda surprised min pin was not on the list.
Right my little min pin has proven to be the most stubborn dog I've ever owned but oh so loyal so worth it lol
koreyp360 yaaaaas!!!!
thank you! I have owned several and love them. hands down my favorite breed but would never recommend their stubborn butts for a first time dog owner
My first dog was a Jack Russell Terrier...still have him. I don't regret it but I also don't recommend it haha
Same! :D
Wow! Now I know why I was so unsuccessful with most of my pets, the dogs that I have chosen were mostly the ones depicted in this video. Will not repeat the mistake. Thank you!
I have a Beagle - Jack russel mix and we're adopting a timid untrained Shiba Inu soon... This might become my new full time job 😅
I love your videos thank you so much. Can you make a video about all dog breeds that are good for physical disabled people please
You showed a corgi while talking about the australian cattle dog.
My first dog is a dachshund/ chihuahua mix, and i love every second *shrugs*
1st one .... To like !!!!!!👍
Well I love dogs no matter how they behave!
well there is the problem for dogs with problems..
Glad you mentioned shiba inu😂 I just adopted one and he's definitely a handful
Heelers are one of the absolute toughest, smartest breeds out there. That dingo DNA makes them great for farms that have coyote issues.
Karen Kalteissen ❤❤❤
I had a jack russel and now own the similar miniature foxie, very similar traits between them. They can get destructive, and have strong hunting instincts but if you raise them right they can be the best companions. I still would not recommend having other animals with them though, especially small animals, you will not be able to leave them alone together in a majority of cases because of those hunting instincts. These instincts also get many terriors into trouble with dangerous animals such as venomous snakes so it is also good to be cautious and wary if you live in places where dangerous creatures are common :)
Zoe Allen 6
My first Dog is a JRT Mix
He is such a lovely Dog ❤
My aunt has a pekingnese and chihuahua mix. Boy is he loyal to her and jelous of others.
I have a Jack Russell who lives with a cat and a bun and I trained her to be great with them.
Agree with number 1 vary hard dog to train but when you do it’s an amazing dog they also tend to be nippy and grumpy not for family’s with kids
I had 2 JRTs, they were so sweet and lovely
As a Pommy Mommy I can tell you that the Pom is not a toy and shouldn’t be played with unsupervised with young children. Poms think they’re big but are fragile. It’s not a good mix. Although my Poms love kids. And were very sweet and long suffering with grabby kids. Also just know going into training that A) your dog is smarter than you and everyone else in the classroom. B) your dog will learn all the class material faster than the pace of the class, then get bored, then start amusing himself. But they are worth every second.
💕Jack Russells have owned 2. They are high energy, great diggers too! Currently have a chihuahua who can be evil at times 😬
My Jack Russell Emily Rose 🌹was such a love. She was precious and loving. I miss her every day. She was never difficult.
The dog I had before my current dog, was a Chihuahua.....and yes, they LOVE to sleep in your lap for hours. I loved his feisty ‘attitude’ too. I always used to say; “CHIHUAHUAS RULE!”
The dog I have now, is an EXTREMELY spunky and energetic Parson Jack Russell......LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that dog!
Lol
I'm a Basenji/Shiba Inu mix. I have trained my owner to obey but he's still unpredictable.
Yes, owners take a lot of training. Lol
😂😂😂🤣 Exactly what happens when you have such intelligent animals!
You could also include Miniature Pinschers.
Dachshunds are the best!!!!
Thanks for the video.
Although we always had Dachshunds and Jack Russells and they were awesome with kids. Not as interested in kids as the Basset hounds we had, but never agressive. They didnt like the tattoed roofers that were around for a week. But they always could play well with kids.
My favourite dog is cattle dog.
I'm not getting a pom until I don't live with the kuvasz anymore, though :b he plays roughly even with small animals
every dog can be your first dog if u have common sense. My first dog was a Bullterrier. She is such a good and well trained dog.
My first thought was JRT, because I have one and it’s #1! 😂
Almost every breed in this list is bought by novices for it look or being trendy. Yikes.
How about a cross breed of pomeranian dad and tibetan terrier mother?
Im planning to get one puppy next month. Does anybody have some suggestions? 🥰
It's really a difficult job to call back my Basenji😅
