“Within the Walls of Chaos” and “Only Death Decides” are my favorites but every song is killer. The album’s a masterpiece! As far as socially aware lyrics, I think the majority of thrash bands were doing that at the time. I would guess a product of getting older and seeing more of the world. Another great episode. Interesting the way the record company chose “Objection Overruled” probably due to its length and interesting hearing about why ticket and merch prices went up due to lower album sales. Makes sense, the market at work...and a little inflation too if we’re comparing to 1993.
Changing of The Guard was my 2nd favorite of the album. A lot of hits on this album. Almost all on here, I've jammed to at one time or another. Never can have too much EXODUS in your life!⛧🤘
Impact in my opinion is one of the finest thrash albums. As you say guys, the H Team were on it big time, Only Death Decides and Changing of the Guard are monster tracks, and Zets vocals were superb. I too would love to hear a remastered Impact, maybe even a few tracks will get onto the Bay Strikes Back setlist in March HINT HINT. Thanks for another insight into the making of... It is a trip that the cover was an actual painting. I had heard something a long those lines from an old band mate, but I thought he was BS-ing at the time. Weird to hear this confirmed some 20 years later. On a bit more trippier note, the fact that John Tempesta, originally from the THRAX camp, always looked to me like Dan Spitz in this artwork for IMMINENT. Anyone else think this?⛧🤘
Impact is underrated for sure. The timing of the whole situation with Capital was fucking unreal! But what if... the team that signed you didn't get the boot? The possibilities are endless. It would be cool if the rest of the band would come down to the Vault with their own takes on stuff like this... Thanks again man, this is great stuff here!
Impact was always "my" Exodus album, partly because it was my first, and it was getting a ton of hype from guitar magazines (what Zetro's saying totally bears out here) which was my best window into metal music at the time. It was wild to learn later that it was considered lacking by anybody at all, but that only got me used to how virtually all Exodus was going to be received.
Criminally underrated album. I would kill to hear AWOL, Heads They Win, Changing of the Guard, or Objection Overruled played live. I'd include Only Death Decides but I've been fortunate to hear that one several times over the decades.

Exodus always the best for straight up heavy guitar RIFFS & Impact just rules w/that, Zet, your rasp & attitude is so individualistic, one vocal line & we know its you, that's legend, just think how many new bands have been influenced by your phrasing , I listen to them all & you can hear the EXODUS-ISMS in almost every one ..which can be great or monotonous depending on the song etc....Zet, your channel kicks much ass & really gets deep ,thanks !

You guys both forgot to mention the two covers from the singles they put out, Good Morning and Free For All. I just watched part of a Force of Habit era show and they ended with the Nugent cover (along with Ricky Rachtman doing the first verse), never knew that even made it into the live sets.
I was 16 in 1990 and I remember impact like it was yesterday! I just knew Exodus was gonna be huge cause when fabulous had came out Exodus was THE band everyone was talking about, every where you went there was Fabulous playing on the stereo. Plus I seen PanterA on the cowboys tour, they were headlining, and there was maybe two hundred people there.
...and I just remembered the only time I saw Exodus was in Davenport Iowa with Sabbath at the Adler theater. Weird, weird venue for such heavy bands. Great show; weird venue.

I've always wondered what is said between Gary and Rick at the end of Objection Overruled. You can barely hear something about one of them being out of tune during the song. Also loved how they described Gary's outgoing solo as " cat strangling " on the liner notes for it .
I think it would be cool if Zetro did a one off episode discussing Bonded By Blood and the Dukes albums. Obviously not the making like with his albums, but his thoughts and where he was at with them at the time they were made.

i would like to know how come, if it's a great album in your eyes, how come you guys don't play anything of this album besides "only death decides"? i think the title track, a.w.o.l, and within the walls of chaos would be great additions to the set list. something fresh next to the usual hits. testament is doing that as well, bringing those hidden gems like the instrumental from "low" for example.

This record really does have some of the best thrash metal riffs of all time. I'd argue Atrocity Exhibit A does feature the best exodus riffs though.

Honestly I love the way this album sounds and wouldn’t touch it with a remaster. Still the most aggressive sounding Exodus release in my opinion.

Walls of Chaos, Thrash Under Pressure, and Changing of the Guard are among the best of Exodus IMHO
The guitar tone is raw and razor sharp.Also having john tempesta on drums gave it a different feel.Great album.
