This was the best draft ever in the history of Minnesota Vikings. I can't wait to buy my McCarthy jersey. It was an absolutely steal drafting McCarthy at pick 10 and then getting Dallas turner at 17. He should of been drafted at pick 7 or pick 8th. The vikings go A+ for this year draft. Skol!

Same here, I am a Michigan fan and Vikings fan for a long time. Was gonna buy a McCarthy jersey when he was at Michigan. But now I will order my Vikings jersey very soon. Now, with our second first round pick Dallas Turner is an absolute steal. Overall did just fine, I would grade night one an A+. And with the Jefferson extension coming, Minnesota will be able to get back the postseason, possibly this season.
A+++ Kwesi has given me reason to believe in him again. Even if McCarthy doesnt pan out, at least he tried!

What a great time to be not only a Vikings fan but a Minnesota sports fan. Twolves kicking butt and Vikings absolutely knocked this draft out of the park. Lets go!
Gotta say that this draft was like watching a suspense thriller by your favorite director and with all your favorite actors. I was on the edge of my seat yelling at the TV for Kwesi to be patient and let the thing happen on its own. As soon as ATL took Penix I knew we'd just stolen McCarthy. Dude was still 20 years old on New Years vs Kirk buying his depends.
But if that wasn't enough of a slam dunk, we move up AGAIN. I'm looking at the board in disbelief that we literally have our choice of all the DEs and CBs. The Turner pick was to reward Flores for staying. Hunter 2.0 and 9 years younger, without 2 serious past injuries. 1st round was such a thing of beauty I don't even care about not picking on day 2, and makes up for the 2022 draft debacle.
It's a crapshoot with all the QB's not named Caleb Williams. JJ has as good a chance as any. And Dallas Turner is a beast. Could he be the next Chris Doleman?

I gotta say.....I did over a hundred mocks and not one of them did I pick at 10 and 17. Whoa! It was looking grim then all of a sudden BOOM ....the Sun Shone on us directly!!!

Paid a 4 and a 5 for McCarthy and got a sixth then a 5 and 2025 picks for Turner leaving us with a 4.th 2 sixth and 2 Seventh
They have been interested in Turner but something makes me feel like we made the trade before Murphy went off the pick before and Wouldve liked him
I'm so happy. Sure, JJ might bust (just like any of the other QBs) but fact that we got him and Turner without giving up the 2025 1st?? Amazing.

A lot of fans complaining about the picks given up. For the past few seasons the Vikings have been stacked on picks. Around 33 total picks from 2020-2022 draft. Only 8 of em panned out to make impacts. 3 of the 1st rounders are still around. Jefferson, Darrisaw, & Cine. Cine’s the only 1st rounder that hasn’t shown up yet due to the nasty injury. Hopefully he breaks out this season, being that my homie the Hitman is coming into his later years. But being that said we have to go with the quality over quantity approach in the draft. Use the quantity approach towards UDFA.

Flo is going to develop Turner into a top edge. I see him starting slow like maybe 300-400 snaps next year and in a couple years being a starter.

I don't know if you've seen the video of McCarthy getting the call that he's going to be Viking, but it's awesome! He's positively beaming. He's so stoked. You can't help but love the kid.
He's an incredible role model. He never used his NIL for himself at Michigan. He would split it between this O line because they never got big NILs and the rest to his Smile Foundation to help kids in need. He's a locker room unifier and always seem to stay positive.

We all talk about how this last few months about the vikings needed to trade up and all that but we have to recognize thay Kwesi has balls of steels. He never moved up to 3 or 4 or 5. All this talk about Giants liking JJ McCarthy was all big bluff and smoke screen. Kwesi really cook the draft!

We have to give thanks to the Atlanta Falcons for drafting Michael Pennix at 8th. They could of drafted JJ McCarthy instead they drafted Michael Pennix at number 8th by the time he starts he will be almost 30 years old. Also at number 8th pick it should of been Dallas Turner instead we got to draft him at number 17th this has turned into the greatest Nfl draft for the Vikings Skol!!

To be completely honest, I wasn’t sold on Kwesi at all before last night. So far his drafts had been a D grade. If you take away Jordan Addison, I’d say an F. That all changed last night. Obviously we won’t know how good or bad McCarthy and Turner are for a couple years. But on paper, this looks like a home run. The patience they showed by waiting until pick 10, and then not giving much up to switch spots, was impressive. Then, moving up to get arguably the best defensive player in the draft. That was fantastic.
Time will tell whether or not he did so great, but i feel he has done better than last couple times he tried.
Atlanta may have single-handedly put us in a future Super Bowl by taking Kurt cousins and his mega salary of our hands and then picking Michael Penix in the seventh round instead of JJ McCarthy. Lol

Vikings get young studs through amazing trades. Keep the 2025 1st and they have a crap ton of 2025 cap space. 2024 might not be amazing in the W/L column but I think this team will be ready to compete in 2025z

I love the picks. They nailed it, and yeah we use a 4th,two 5th rounders. But we get comp picks for losing Kirk, Hunter, Osborn next year. Osborn is third round for what ever reason they are saying. The others not sure what they will be. The Falcons took Penix because Kirk is gonna miss some games this year because of the tampering. Kirk even went down there for a physical while under contract with us. Its really bad on Kirk and the Falcons are gonna pay for it. The difference between Brady and Kirk tampering that Brady was just talking to Dolphins. And Kirk goes down to Falcons takes a physical and comes back to play it up like hes gonna stick around. This is gonna ruin Kirk and might be the last team he is on. Enjoy your Falcons Kirk!!!

I think McCarthy needs time to play instinctively but because he has great footwork a great arm, prototypical look and feel of the QB you might not see him get that Time. He is at high risk that people are going to call him a “bust” before he blossoms. Drake Maye much more so,
I saw and see both him and Drake Maye as the likely “late bloomer” I saw the same for Jordan Love, Baker Mayfield and others. He needs the Jordan Love treatment. Fans are going to be a bit disappointed and calling for McCarthy the first time Darnold struggles.
I actually think Darnold could be that late bloomer also.
But the upside is tremendous it is even bigger for Drake Maye. I have a feeling Drake Maye in 3 years will be on another team and eventually Drake Maye becomes like Rich Gannon where after he washes out maybe he sits as a backup for awhile and then once he gets his time he could become an all pro. I don’t know if you get that same top 25% of outcomes including the high end all pro with McCarthy but you do get someone that if put in the right system peppered with talent can flourish… like I think a lot of QBs could in this offense including Darnold. My hope and feel is Darnold having that early first round pedigree is also a late bloomer. Some guys are survivor types like Blane Gabbedt where despite being in a bad QB class and being worse than people think, find their way on a roster after Jake Locker and Christian Ponder are out of the league entirely, and some of them get their chance like Geno Smith. Ironically it’s often the guys drafted outside of the first round who don’t have the pressure to start early that maybe don’t have the Size and aren’t the physical speciman and maybe are just average in athleticism who get to sit behind a team who already has their QB like the Purdys and Brady’s and Drew Breeses and Russel Wilsons of the world who end up flourishing.
To me maybe McCarthy is Baker Mayfield and maybe Jake Plummer and Maye is Jake Plummer or Rich Gannon. But by that I mean we have to be super patient with both of them, maybe less patient with McCarthy than Maye but Maye had more upside…. still I’m talking we should ideally redshirt him as the 3rd QB behind Mullens, and rotate him in year 2. I don’t know if we can be that patient and all that does is increase the bust percentage.
I’m so glad we didn’t overypay for Maye. I think in New England, Maye doesn’t have the talent around him, they just Gave up on Mac Jones and not only expected him to start in place of Brady but they moved on quick as many teams do these days.
Ironically Nix and Penix are probably more ready to play at a functional NFL level, but maybe have less upside.
Some of these dudes get over drafted and are expected to start week one and are expected to make a bad team god by a team that could have done a lot to improve their team if they didn’t overdraft a QB and as a result don’t get to tap into their potential at all, or have to wash out first like Jake Plummer, like Rich Gannon, like Kurt Warner, like Drew Brees, like Baker Mayfield like Alex Smith, and hopefully like Sam Darnold. And like the entire 2021 class minus Lawrence, like Kenny Pickett, like Mitchell Trubiski.
Some of those QBs won’t out in the work (Drew Lock), some of them aren’t worth the trouble (Johnny Menziel), some development is derailed by injuries (Teddy, Bradford) some are too old when drafted to have time to develop (Brandon Weeden), some take for granted their natural athleticism and are replaced by someone drafted after them (Jamarcus Russell, RG3) and some of them even hit and hit big but are on such a crap team that the only way for that team to get better is ironically to trade them (Stafford, Goff)
Ideally Darnold is going to blossom and we can keep him without paying… and I would extend him for a year right now before he balls out and wants $30M a year aka Keenum. It won’t hurt to have him around as a backup.
I love the former QBs in Darnold, OConnel and Josh McCown that will surround him and hopefully have seen enough to know how some QBs do the work and blossom, and if Darnold cooks in particular, they will understand that the first impression of the QB isnt close to the players ceiling and not all QBs are going to blossom year 1 or 2.
I think if Darnold can earn an extension, maybe we can be smart and we wait 2 years and start McCarthy in the 3rd, and maybe by then we can scoop up Maye for a 6th because he has the highest washout potential of all QBs especially in New England.
We will be picking 1st or 2 next year

JJ played hockey! Let's see...how important is durability at the QB position ? Ask the Vikings and the Jets what's happens to your entire season when your QB gets injured.... This another reason why JJ was THE best QB in this draft....See me in 5 years riding the lead float (a white, and purple Honda motorbike with gold mags) in the SB celebration parade in Ban Kurt (Thailand) - Get ready to love JJmc for the next decade.
