"I remember the hell out of it" is now replacing the overused "like it was yesterday." This will be the correct phrase to use until it dies or we find a better one.

The way they described makers vs makers 46 is exactly how I felt. Once I had Maker's 46 (regular strength) I can't go back to regular Maker's which was a long time favorite!

"Drinking the original Maker's, it makes me miss the 46" is exactly how I feel, though I've never tried the cask strength of either. The original is what got me "into" bourbon, and thus was always my go to. But the few times I've had it lately, I just wished it was 46.

I always thought scotch was the only whisky you drink neat. After watching many of your videos and trying different bottles of whisky, I’ve learned that I personally enjoy cheaper bourbon the most. Makers is one of my favorites and I can only hope that one day my palate with becomes as magnificent as Rex’s hair has over the years.

My wife and I were out of town this past weekend. Our hotel had a neat saloon in it, and we noticed an un-opened bottle of Makers cask strength. We asked for 2 glasses of that, at which point the bartender raised his eyebrows. After a few glasses Fri night and a few more Sat night, we put a good dent in that bottle. The bartender was impressed. And boy, is that stuff smooth.

You think the 46 it’s worth the extra money? I haven’t tried it yet. I love Maker’s but at the store a 1.75 liter of Maker’s is $38 and a regular size bottle of 46 is $33......But after typing this out I’m now too curious to pass up the 46. But after I try it I’m worried I might think “I could’ve gotten a 1.75 for only $5 more..”

Glad you commented "Asking the wrong question." Same can be said for using wood staves to enhance whiskey, the question isn't "Is it better?" The better question is "Does it make something interesting." Just as it works for Makers 46, it also works for home hobbyists. We can add very small staves (sticks) of toasted oak, maple, cherry, apple, mesquite, etc to make our own enhanced whiskey in 4 to 6 weeks, it is fun and worthwhile. For those interested do a web search on the words 'whiskey wood infusion at home' and you'll get lots of input on ways to do it.

I have tried Makers 46 (non cask strength) in 2 blind tastings and it has finished dead last twice for me vs some similar priced bourbons (Evan Williams SB, Michters, Russell Reserve, etc). And I mean last by a mile, after taking a few sips its undrinkable for me. There are only a couple options, either I got a bad bottle or I just don’t like wheaters or there may something about the French oak staves that I detest. I know many people that love it, so I’m just really perplexed why i’m so wrong way charlie on this one?

Hello guys. I have a question: I am a big whiskey fan, my favorites being laphroaig although I enjoy almost all scotches and jameson castmates although I enjoy most Irish whiskies. I've drank bourbon with water and ice for most of my life as well, but I've never liked it straight. I've tried all the big brands as well as pretty much every bourbon available to me and the only ones out of probably twenty different ones I can sort of drink are buffalo trace and angels envy although even those are a struggle. Am I destined to not be a bourbon drinker, or are there any that you can reccomend that might change my mind?

After watching your videos I have bought and tried Elijah Craig small batch, makers mark, monkey shoulder, and JW black label. I really enjoy JW black label and thought monkey shoulder was a bit too sweet and wasn't giving me a proper "toss around the room." Outside of things like, fake patina, staining and other type of visual aging, as in cosmetic effects on materials, I only know one place where rapid aging kinda works and that`s Eliquid, slight heating and agitation through for instance ultrasonic treatment, does have an effect, as it helps the molecules mix together, but with more complex blends and/or larger molecules, I don`t know.
I believe alchohol molecules to be large although I might be wrong, but the thought occured to me that mixing might be more difficult with alchohol than Eliquid, since you might want material from a barrel in the mix.
"The reason why the solubility decreases as the length of hydrocarbon chain increases is because it is requires more energy to overcome the hydrogen bonds between the alcohol molecules as the molecules are more tightly packed together as the size and mass increases"
Never thought of rapid aging of spirits, but I`d like to know more :)

Yesterday at one of my semi-regular haunts, I tried a glass (a single shot, neat, in a lowball...that's the best glass they had for whiskey), of Virginia Black American Whiskey (so said the label...also said it's not made in Virginia), and was very disappointed.
I couldn't really get much from the smell, and the taste was kind of a sweet bland, with no bite, even at 40% there should have been some kind of alcohol bite on the tongue.
I've gotten more of a bite from liqueurs.
I will try again after my allergy is done, sniffles may have played with the smell and taste (not the bite, and to be sure, i followed with a Blantons Original and a Lagavulin 8yr, both of which I could get the bite, and more of a smell ),
What I'd like to ask is, if you guys have tried the Virginia Black? And if you've done a review?
I m wondering if my perception of lack of taste and smell was normal, or just allergies? lol
