The other thing Maker's does really well? Their client experience is exceptional. After we had our tour, they invited us to spend the rest of the day at the distillery. They have kind of a museum, some art work, fantastic grounds, and a restaurant. They're the best at promoting the brand
Very happy you are covering Maker's! This was my first bourbon and first stop on the KY Bourbon Trail. BEAUTIFUL grounds! Unique marketing with the wheat and wax seal. May not be the best "wheater" on the market, but it kept the style alive for the other good ones!

The "I'm not going to drink my parent's generation's spirit" phenomenon was one of the factors that led to the reduction of production of Japanese whiskey which then led to lack of supply when it became popular outside of Japan due to (among other things) a favorable review of Suntory’s Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 which was designated the "best in the world" from the Whisky Bible, raising the global profile and demand of the Japanese whisky.

I worked on a series of Maker Mark poster years ago, building rough models of buildings from iconic cityscapes, dripping the wax on them, photographing the wax with an eye on lighting from the cityscape, and then had those wax drippings photoshopped onto the cityscapes. Maker Mark always had great marketing people.
Makers Mark was my first attempt at a whiskey besides Jack Daniels and so on. Frankly it was the perfect entry, am now on Buffalo Trace and it is going to be a great Journey.
Still my favorite whiskeys as of right now. I remember I tried to go back to Jack Daniels after I finished the bottle of Maker's, and it tasted like spicy water, in the most literal sense. No flavor, just a warm throat. Maker's goes so well with Coke, it's crazy! There's something about the mixture that makes it taste rich, creamy, dense, smooth with some bits of tingling to my tongue and lips. But, an overall amazing experience, from someone who prefers Berliner Weisse beers (favorite is 1809). I remember accidentally getting the mint julip version (I'm very colorblind) and didn't notice until I drank it. I was taken aback, and threw up because I wasn't prepared for the taste. Still finished that bottle.
For me, Makers makes the best "whiskey & coke" around. It consistently wins "& coke" blinds at my house vs any other bourbon / whiskey that one would normally choose to mix with coke.
My favorite Maker's Mark has been a Private Select, bottled a smidge under 110 proof. It was rich in flavor, velvety in texture and pleasantly but not overly sweet. Best bourbon I've had thus far.
Used to drink Maker’s primarily but started delving into other whiskies including Scotch; now just can’t drink Maker’s. Not sure what happened but it lost its place on my shelf. Kudos to Maker’s for putting bourbon first before just trying to fit in. As always, great vid.

Quick story why I drink Makers and recommend it to everyone. Back in 2010 I picked up my first car (98 Grand Cherokee) with my dad from Florida and drove it back to my college in Ohio. We stopped by the distillery but unfortunately it was too late for a tour. As we are walking around the parking lot, an employee told us we can walk around and ask other employees what everything was and the whisky making process. As we were about to head out, the first employee asked if we wanted to try their different types of whisky. Anyway, we had a nice conversation and my dad got wasted while I had to stay sober and drive throughout the night to Columbus. The employees at Makers Mark were incredible people and really made us feel like family.

You should put the spices in glencairns with gasketed lids and make a display for all of those with their names on the glass and the display. Like a spice rack but for nosing reference. Also things like coffee beans or sawdust that come up in whisky as well.
Maker's Mark has an excellent product. Wether it is the regular, Cask Strength, 46 or 46 cask strength, they are all consistent and made the right way. Take a tour there. Believe it or not, I’m working on my first bottle of Maker’s Mark. When I was younger, it seemed a waste of money, especially when I could buy Crown instead, and recently, I’ve just tried newer brands. I really like the whisky and may keep it in regular rotation. It makes a really nice old fashioned!
Wheatley vodka is just that my friend. It's Buffalo Trace and they use your exact statement of why you should buy their vodka. They use all their experience same grain as they use for their bourbon you hit the nail right on the head it just took them awhile to get to it.
I just bought a bottle of Maker's Mark and paid a decent sum for it, since whiskey is kind of an exotic drink here. Only other "better" bourbon I had is Woodford's Reserve and I love that one. I am new to whiskey in general, but the instant I smelled Maker's something seemed off to me. It has a mouldy note to it on the nose, and you can pick it up on the taste even more. Once compared to a sip of Woodford's, it became even more noticable. I would describe the taste like those alcohol cherry chocolates, if the cherry inside was mouldy. Is that a normal Maker's taste?
I would somewhat disagree with your statement about the thinking Whiskey/bourbon is an old person's drink. I was a teen in the late '70s and in my 20's in the '80s and ALL of my friends drank Jack Daniels and Jim Beam almost exclusively(yes I started drinking early). I live in Northeast Ohio close to Akron just South of Cleveland a bit. JD and JB were the drink of choice when it came to hard liquor. Still is in these parts. :) Thanks for your show. I just bought a bottle of Monkey Shoulder and I am LOVING it. Very nice. Just found your channels and am playing catch up. Peace

Maker's Mark is my baseline. Whiskey is either less good, as good or better than Maker's. And in all honesty very few have made the jump to "Better than Makers". I have had all the major brands and a fair amount of small batch, and Maker's is still slapping them all. Start your whiskey adventure with Maker's Mark!
As I got older and started to expand my palette into new bourbons and scotches, coming back to Makers Mark tastes like drinking the fall season. I get a huge hit of cloves and spices, that it starts to taste like cinnamon whisky, which I’m not a fan of, especially the flavored stuff.
How? Vodka has an aftertaste that is unmistakable regardless of how fancy it is. Makers Mark doesn't leave really any aftertaste because it's a little light.
It's alright. No complaints really. Just think that there are better more flavored burbouns for equal or less cost. Will still keep one to go back to occasionally.
Lost it’s not bad, but you could better spend your money. Get Knob Creek Single Barrel for a few bucks less and you’ll feel a lot better. It’s a better bourbon, at a higher proof, at a lower cost.
@@jwalkblue7 good to know, I think I'm just drawn to proof at times. Hoping to excite more flavours I guess. I have a bottle of Knob 120 in the cabinet as a matter of fact.
Lost I get it, I can be the same way with proof, hence why I’m telling you my opinion on it lol. The flavors are certainly bolder, and Rex is correct that it has some barrel flavor without the bitterness at the end which is nice. With that said, it’s not a super complex whiskey if that’s what you’re looking for.

I think it’s very smooth that is why I buy it anyway. Another smooth one is Evan Williams single barrel.
Watched this while opening my first bottle and tbh it's my new favorite
Great presentation! Thank you. Cheers.
Rex with the marketing insight on lite whiskey. The first time I tried makers I didn't care for it, but I've been tempted by the cask strength.
@@jwalkblue7 thanks for that.
