How John presents himself on these podcasts is exactly how he is in person - be it teaching the classes he offers or hoisting drinks while having laughs over good food with folks. He’s absolutely a class act👍
When I was a kid, my dad was a big city cop, former paratrooper, Vietnam Vet. His cop buddies were mostly combat veterans too. I used to sit and listen to these guys tell stories (my father was a great story teller), which were crazy, hilariously funny, sometimes hair raising, and often so outrageous that you wonder if they were real. Listening to McPhee tell a story brings me back to those days. He has such a way of telling stories.
My dad never shared any war story with me. So, I joined the army then went to Iraq did 15 months. After that I know why he didn’t want to share his story.
John is like a surfer dude with his attitude but you know underneath is a sharp brain and total warrior. Guys like him have nothing to prove, their rep speaks for itself. I could listen to him all day.
Why miss- title the segment? Zero mention of KNIFE. Do u think we are stupid or do you just not give a shit? I will watch a Shrek segment no matter what you title it, so let's try for accuracy please.
A "Knife fight", can also be used as a metaphor for any kind of fast paced in close fighting. He did describe several in the first few minutes. I am going to assume though this was Mike experimenting with click bait. Don't hate the player, hate the game. I don't condone it but I understand.
That quote that says “stick shrek in a glass case that says break in case of war” is perfect for this dude. He’s what’s needed when situations get hairy

What I like about John is his straight forward approach to the retelling of his experiences. Most SF guys always talk on these podcasts so serious and measured.
The phrase, "Knife fight" is just a metaphor in this case. It is short hand for quick and dirty in close fighting which was described in the first three minutes. We all got clickbaited but they were good stories none the less.

Imagine how high speed you have to be to figure that it would be 'fun' to knockout people when the stakes are your life, and he gets bored after only 11. Then the way he jokes around about it, like it was just something funny, which it was...this man is dangerous in ways we can't even comprehend.
I actually saw that happen in New Orleans. Knife vs ice pick. Ice pick guy died on scene, knife wielder died in the ambulance, just like you said. Bad juju
Unless only one side has a knife. And even more so if him and his buddy all have knives à la Roman Senate v Julius Cesar. Then it is a one way ticket to Shankville.

I was laughing at the dog stories. We had an Air Force dog, a Belgian Mal name "Max", a big dog, who was a good worker, but he would just as soon bite us as the people he was sicced on. He put one of our guys up on top of a four drawer filing cabinet one day and he almost shot him. The AF dogs and handlers would rotate in and out every three months, and whenever Max would show up for a three month assignment, everyone would be like, "Oh, no, is that Max? Prepare to be bitten."

I remember watching episodes of Cesar Milan doing work with narc detection dogs and this one crew had this issue of the dogs never being able to wind down. They'd be all hyped up from doing their dog duties and then pretty much get put in a kennel with no decompression procedure. I'm not an expert but this seemed to make the dogs consistently anxious or aggressive 24/7. I'm curious if there have been any policies or procedures applied to dog handling universally to where you can pretty much bring them down to blue mode after being in red mode.
Per the view of Bruce Lee he said the longer the knife fight goes on the more likely you are lethally injured. He created his methods to end any type of fight immediately, and that matches what SOB said. You don’t do a knife fight you end it in one, two moves
Wrong crowd to talk about Ghost, my Afghanistan Vet friend's Belgian Malinois that was mean as shit but loved me for some reason. I have had a lot of dogs over the years, but Ghost was the shit! I have never felt like a dog had my back like I did with that dog!
