I prefered the Michael Turner Supergirl as the current New 52 version of her has a lot of anger issues. Second will be Linda Davers Supergirl which her costume is always nice to look at.
You didn't mention that the original Supergirl took the name Linda Lee when Superman advised her to adopt a disguise. She got the name from two girls at the school she attended. She then got adopted by the Danvers and then changed her name to Linda Danvers. This confused me when Supergirl the series started since she was called Kara Danvers. Linda Danvers was the characters name for a long time after she was introduced in the comics.
Linda Lee Danvers was 2nd one unless jimmy Olsen's wish brought her to earth when he wished on magic monkey paw. They both looked the same except first had red skirt, and Linda Lee Danvers version a blue skirt. When Jimmy wished her away when she was dying from kryptonite it, if it was same one then it returned her to where came from and undid harm that affected her from the kryptonite. In reprints of story they changed her hair to orange and costume to green and yellow so resembled Lana Lang instead of Kara. Lois, Lana, and Supergirl basically all looked the same back then except for hair color and style and clothing they wore. Pete Ross also looked like Jimmy Olsen except Pete was a blonde with freckles instead of Jimmy's orange hair and freckles.
Personally, I am impressed with the history of "Supergirl," and with the new TV series, I hope that it lasts for many years. Next time, Arris, do a segment on the history of the "She-Hulk."
Girl can turn invisible and ignite (flame on). I'm sensing some copyright issues with Marvel. Sue Richards and Johnny Storm. The invisible girl and the human torch respectively. ( Fantastic 4)
I just love comic books and their characters. Especially Marvel and DC. I can read those all day . . . literally. Maybe even all week minus sleep time 😜. I just wish they were readily available where I live. There isn't enough of a market interested in them enough to actually sell them at a reasonable price to. Oh well. Wikipedia and Variant help fill in blanks.
Young Justice needs to introduce her in the new series and have SuperGirl written perfectly maybe having SuperGirl be introduced in the next season.SuperGirl and SuperBoy could have an interesting interaction with SuperMan noticing that Clark accepted Kara more quicker than he accepted him. This would lead to a weird friction between both SuperBoy and SuperMan with both men having a awkward relationship afterwards. And SuperMan would also train SuperGirl which would further drive a wedge in the relationship between SuperMan and SuperBoy with SuperBoy remembering years ago when he wanted SuperMan to train him.
This is awesome. I'm so excited to see this because just 5 days ago I made a request about this, and I look today, and it's here. I'm pretty sure you were already going to do this, but still cool nonetheless to see it. You're awesome dude. Thanks.
Just wanted to mention for your reading recommendations, one story that should have been included was "Supergirl: Many Happy Returns" from 2002 Supergirl #75-80. The Matrix/Danvers Supergirl got to meet Classic Supergirl from the pre-Crisis universe. I wasn't a big fan of the post-Crisis Matrix/Danvers girl of steel at the time but it was great seeing the "real" Supergirl back for a short while. www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/supergirl-many-happy-returns
I liked the Supergirl from the 1996 comics who fused with Linda Danvers. She was assertive and more mature. I used to pick up the comics from a local convenient store near my martial arts school.
thier was rumor or trivia that Marvel Comic almost sue D.C because of The third Supergirl altro ego Linda Danvers. because the Last name Danvers it being related To Carol Danvers A.K.A Ms Marvel bat it just the same last name and they are not relative.
I am going to sound like such a nerd but that wasn't the first appearance of Supergirl. Jimmy Olsen at one point got a wish totem that gave him three wishes one of the said wishes was for a female version of Superman. She was named Supergirl and looked very much like the later Supergirl we would know and love. As all things wish like she was wiped out by cancelling the wish. If that wasn't Otto Binder that created that story then I believe the creation of Supergirl is miscredited as the back story while being different obviously the character herself was the template on which all future Supergirl's were based. It was not labeled as an imaginary tale and was the kind of bullshit they pulled in the Silver Age. I did some research and the story I am mentioning was released in August 1958 in Superman # 123 so yes predates the Kara El version of Supergirl by almost a year. I can't see on the cover of the story who wrote that story but the costume and the hair are pretty iconically Supergirl. She is even introduced as such by Superman. The fact that story got such a big response was why they brought the character back in the form of Kara El. If not for that story there would be no Supergirl and we owe that story it's due. Note that I am not anal retentive I just retain most stories I have ever read, seen, or been told naturally.
Kara In-Ze was featured as the cartoon, not Kara Zor-El. Kara In-Ze is the last daughter of Argo, sister planet to Krypton (Not to be confused with Argo City, on Krypton). It should be noted that they too were Rao worshipers (Rao is the Krypton Sun that went nova).
The Supergirl in the Timmverse (DCAU) wasn't Kara Zor-El but was Kara In-Zee due to DC not allowing the animators to use the classic silver age Supergirl. Superman discovered Kara on the planet Argo which was a twin planet of Krypton but due to explosion Argo became an Arctic wasteland..
I still prefer McKenna Grace as Supergirl in my opinion, but I guess I’ll give it to Milly since James Gunn said that her audition tape was insane. But I DO hope he casts Ariana Greenblatt, who played Sasha based on Bratz from Barbie, as Ruthie in the Supergirl film. Imagine if her former director & writer of Barbie Greta Gerwig directs the film (If she’s interested).
Never knew Supergirl's look on the JLA Cartoon was based on the Danvers version of Supergirl in the comics that's crazy with the white shirt and everything
Hate to quibble, but the Kara Zor-El/Linda Danvers version DID NOT appear in Superman the Animated Series. Aside from a bit different uniform (more resembling the costume of the Linda Danvers-merged-with-Matrix version), that Supergirl did not come from Krypton, but from another inhabited planet in the same solar system as Krypton (she was the only survivor Superman later found because Krypton's destruction triggered a catastrophic climate change on its sister planet--actually, if you think about it, that really makes a lot better sense than the 1959 comics origin, as the Golden Age Superman [Earth-2 in later Silver Age continuity] did meet a super-being that proved to be from another planet in Krypton's solar system, but for some reason Weisinger/Binder elected not to use that scenario for Supergirl). However, the Supergirl movie not mentioned here WAS based on the original Kara of Argo City, though the creators of the Christopher Reeve movies did make some subtle tweaks to Supergirl's story just like they did Superman's. In the movie, Argo City survived Krypton's destruction by taking refuge another dimension (again, making a bit more sense than the original comics version, in which Supergirl's parents tried to move everybody to another dimension but failed), and Kara's stay on earth as Linda/Supergirl was only temporary because she was trying to retrieve a power jewel needed to keep Argo City alive. One thing is for sure. The basic features of the Superman legend (Krypton, Ma and Pa Kent in Smallville, Clark Kent and his daily co-workers at the Daily Planet in Metropolis) have remained amazingly constant through the decades, but the story of Supergirl has gone through constant change and rebooting over a shorter period of time.
