thanks for pointing this out! I missed this post. I just want the option to mirror for gaming. It's insane that this isn't standard across the board when my oneplus 7 pro can do it with ease.
im running into issues at the step at 8:49. my computer is unable to recognize/find my device with the *adb reboot bootloader* command. I downloader the deriver mentioned earlier and it fixed the first time but doesnt seem to work now
Reboot the phone and enter fastboot mode manually. Turn off the phone (volume up and power). Let it shut down. Turn on the phone with power and volume down. It will enter fastboot mode. Then plug it in to your PC and it shows up in Fastboot devices. Good luck.
Ive been trying to do this for days and i have had no luck at all. when I try to do the last step to finally root my phone, its telling me that it cant find the img to flash. I have triple checked all of the steps and still nothing. I am in need of some help!
when i enter adb reboot bootloader my cmb prompt says, "'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." do you know how to fix it?
this shouldnt be necessary now after some update enabled it, theres even a desktop mode, not just mirroring ... I will be buying this phone in like a week, so I wonder how much better can I make this phone by rooting it, what more can I change or enable
app called Second Screen has settings for resolution and rotation. I can't vouch for it working since I was trying on a Pixel 6 Pro which doesn't support the HDMI out at all AAARRRGGGHHH
@@bencatoe5911 There's a GitHub software that I used to use on unrooted pixel 6 that allowed me to screen mirror to my windows laptop and a second one for audio. Used it for zero latency gaming on the larger laptop screen. Can't remember what it's called though
Oh nice! i'm going to check this video fully tomorrow. I been wanting to root my 8pro do you have apks on the rooted phone? will the features like call record etc be avalable since i live in a country were that function is not avalable but i heard it is still in the phone. i instantly sub to you and thumbs up and bell. i'm 30 sec into the video need sleep. have an awesome day
Hey man i was watching your videos and i had a question about rooting my pixel 8 pro, i just wanted to ask if there was a way to root my phone without having to rest the whole thing???
I don't know if you've mentioned this in anyother video but does this work for the Pixel Fold becasue as far as I know it doesn't support video out either?
If you let an update just install, it'll remove root. After that happens, you can patch that boot file and flash it again pretty quick. You'll have to run that command again to turn video out back on as well. Should be much quicker that doing it from the start.
I do find it rather unforgivable that display out isn't enabled by default.
I got exhaustedjust watching this process, lol. Great work on this though Shane... your dedication to unlocking these features is impressive!
Read that this can be done with tenor phones, pixel 6s & 7s except the (a) models

Now try running windows with kvm and use it as desktop replacement
You are a legend. Thanks to you, I can now use my Xreal glasses every day with my phone (pixel 8 pro)

Same issue. It worked up until that point and then suddenly, no fastboot devices shown.

Great video, very clear. I have now got my Pixel 8 Pro working on the Xreal air 1s. Thank you very much!🙏🏽
Is it only mirror the screen or ar space also work?

Were you ever able to confirm whether audio is able to redirect to the video output?
I haven't rooted a phone since the sprint htc evo I used to be real big on rooting back in the day 😅😅
It had been a long time for me too. I had to root a Surface Duo a while back to save it from being a paperweight, besides that, it'd been YEARS
Awesome, i requested this. Thanks alot I'll try this later. ❤
If you have a hub or adapter that uses DisplayLink you do video out without rooting.
Hello, please give us an example for such hub or adapter

is display out pixel 8pro only or standard one gets some love too??
Does this work for pixel 7 too?
just use pixel flasher
My phone cannot be detected as an adb device even after driver installation. Any ideas?
I wonder if there's a way to turn the screen on the phone off while the external display is on and active? Would be nice to save some battery life.
Hi Shane,
would it be possible to customize the resolution of the pixel,
so that the mirrored screen wont have those black bars?

How To add Samsung dex like interface using root
Tho there's desktop mode on external display option in developer settings, it doesn't seem to work now
Great job! May be after this, Xreal glasses will work with it.
Any idea if this works for Pixel 9? Obviously would need pixel 9 specific stuff instead of Pixel 8, but any hardware changes that prevent rooting?
@shane Craig What file explorer in windows are you using?! Looks amazing
It's in the microsoft store, look for Files App by Yair A
Will this work with android auto? I'd love to watch Netflix in car while parked on work breaks etc.
Does it have desktop mode like samsung dex or Huawei desktop mode
Amazing! Anything about desktop mode?
Can you do this on CalyxOS?

If your bootlocker is locked, you are out of luck, reset is mandatory. Unlocking the bootloader will erase all your data.

This does not work for Pixel Fold
Dang that is unfortunate. Well thanks for the quick response, love the content and these informational videos.
Hey bro installation went smooth but just wondering when updates for the phone happen will i have to go through this whole proccess or??

Great info.
It will be great if it can be done to the Fold too.
Unfortunately, the Fold lacks the hardware to do this.
Once u root a phone can u still update the software on ur phone? Keep up the great work👍💯
You can, but you'll need to do this rooting process again. Minus the OEM unlocking part, of course.
@@shanecraigtech ok thank u
No need to fiddle with all that process each month, simply use Pixel Flasher, it takes roughly 10 minutes to be up and running.
will i still recieve timely software updates on my rooted pixel 8? What are the disadvantages if any of rooting?
It'll still update, you just will need to do the last bit of this again to get your root back
perfect
wow he rips thru a bunch of stuff but it works. Google shoulda fixed this when Pixel replaced Nexus jeebus!
