Correction: Nobody did anything tbh. It was never Nova's fault for the third party gesture thing. It was Google's fault. And they had updated nova for the new animation for home months ago
Pretty much yes. I figured since this video is a couple years old that the software used would have been updated. I used magisk v27.0, and the android image file was the second newest one in the list on the site provided based on the build number. I just followed exactly what he explained step by step and it worked. I was half expecting something to fail but it was fine. Even the bootloop issue he mentioned sort of happened but after a couple reboot cycles it booted fine.
@@_clownworld The android file I used was based on what version my phone was running before I rooted. I just matched up the build numbers and used that one.
Hi long time android user here. I plan to upgrade my Samsung s9 to a pixel 6. I'm so glad rooting is this simple for the pixel 6. I remember rooting my T-Mobile G1. Man how time flies. I missed having a rooted device. Samsung makes it impossible to root their phones.
There's an easy method: go to magisk and restore images. Then you can download the OTA update but don't restart for install yet. Go back to magisk, install to inactive slot, and then restart to install the update.
Successfully root my Pixel 6a running Android 13. Encountered some problems in the process: 1. At 4:38, be sure OEM unlocking is enabled under Developer options, otherwise you'll get "flashing unlock is not allowed" error. 2. If you don't see the Magisk icon at 9:43, simply download the apk from online again.
I just want to add that when I did this today, I came across an issue where even a factory reset didn't fix the bootloop. Turns out the reason was because I had downloaded the wrong version of the Pixel 6 Pro image. Because google pulled the December 2021 update from the images page, but my Pixel shipped with it, I downloaded and tried to flash the October update. This meant my boot image was incompatible, and recovering involved flashing the entire software image from October and starting again.

when i flash the patched magisk it over ill get a bootloop so i tried temporialy flashing with fastboot boot "boot file" but it didnt work so i reversed the changes i dont know what was going wrong there. The first time i rooted my phone same thing happened but factory reseting makes it and the root work and i didnt had a problem with it bc it was new but on my current pixel 4a i dont want reset it again and it should work without it but it didnt. does someone know why flashing the file doesnt work? To name more details i also used the latest image since my phone is on the latest version
this is my question, in my case it bootlooped because i assumed the top img was the latest (it's actually at the bottom) and when I tried to do it with the updated one i got that corrupt screen which i just reloaded because i used the temp command and i got back to my (unrooted) factory rom

My problem is...when you install an update and need to flash a patched boot image again, is it going to act up and require another factory reset?? That would be terrible.
@@Fallen_Angels Well what I worry about is an "issue" upon the boot that forces you to factory reset, otherwise I can already flash the build with one line of command without wiping anything, no flash tool necessary.
As of this typing, I had to use Magisk 24.3 to root my Pixel 6. The Canary build would only open to a black screen. And I had to do a factory reset, despite first rebooting back to the bootloader first (as suggested in the comments).
After typing "fastboot flashing unlock", no confirmation appears on my phone. Windows terminal says "waiting for device". Anybody else having this issue?
@@CrucialTech1 I did. I went into my "device manager" from my computer, and had to manually install the "android bootloader interface drivers". I'm not sure why they weren't installed. But I would try to install those and see if it fixes your problem

how do I factory reset when I am in a boot loop?
why cant you just choose the launcher as standard launcher in the settings? that works for nova launcher as far as I know
but excuse me, when in a month there will be the new update, if I install it I would have to reboot the boot.img modified by magisk to solve it afterwards, and this would not be a problem. But again though it will ask me to restore to factory data? because saving the data every time is impossible
How do i update now my rooted pixel 6? January update is out...need some help plllss :)
Current build number is SQ1D - don't see a download for that. Any ideas?
or flash a custom recovery instead via bootloader. and just flash magisk zip. easy peasy
Yes, the thing is they don't bother to make custom recoveries like they used to these days if they even make any at all since there are so many phones. Best case you might find some unofficial unreliable twrp that creates more problems than it solves.
I miss the good ol' nexus days.
Why you need to root a telephone in 2022 I wonder? I need to use the bank app and Netflix better than root.
Tested and worked on pixel 6 pro
Android 13
December update 2022
Purely to get VoLTE module and 5G for unsupported countries
Damn google
👍🏻
Great video 👍
Would you recommend rooting this devices for remote control purposes? I have family with severe parkinsons I'm look to give a him a rooted phone that I could use to play music and tv for him. I'm also wondering what apps to look into, maybe they don't need root at all. TIA
This method will allow you to install OTA updates?
Can I follow this same method on my Pixel 4a?
Thank you for this video I'm subscribing but I was wondering were you able to install a twrp recovery On this phone ?
I hv problem with this phone black screen and flashing
