The fertility industry destroys more fertilized eggs every year than abortion. You'll never hear a conservative complain about it. Because it's not about destroying fertilized eggs, it's about convincing a bunch of religious nuts that female reproductive autonomy is murder so that you can weaponize them for your political party.
There's also the multifetal pregnancy reduction, which actually removes implanted embryos/fetuses if too many are successful during IVF. It is the same as abortion with a less offensive name. You hardly ever hear about it because it is primarily well-off white married couples having it done.
it's far easier for conservatives to demonize some poor young girl who obviously had sex outside of marriage, than a middle aged (mostly white) infertile couple who just wants children, even though the latter will end up "killing" dozens more "babies".

I agree with Ben in a sense, and here is why. I had a friend who had 8 FREE abortions by the time she was 32 years old. She slept with random men all the time and instead of using birth control, she’d just get a free abortion every time she got pregnant. Her reasoning, ‘she didn’t ever want kids’. She got pregnant a 9th time by a guy with lots of money and had the baby, but doesn’t take very good care of it, uses it as a pawn to collect money, and has since had 5 more abortions after sleeping with more random guys. That’s 13 Abortions by her 35 bday.
I believe victims of rape, or young teens should be allowed to get a doctors clearance for an abortion, but I think adult women need to be held accountable and not allowed to just keep aborting babies.

First of all, that’s not every woman. Your description, with every added detail, thins out the pool of actual women who fulfill these conditions.
Second of all, the conditions you proposed under which abortion should be legal are chosen very arbitrarily. What about cases where contraception was used without success? There was an intent of not having a baby be the consequence. And that should be taken into consideration. A baby should be wanted and grow up in a stable environment if you truly want to unlock the so called potential you Pro-Lifers keep droning on about.
Step out of your religious shoes for a moment and view the world through various different ethical, moral, philosophical lenses.

I’m an atheist and I find it utterly bizarre how theists promote a pseudo-godly objection to abortion when god himself sanctioned the induction of miscarriages of unfaithful wives under 5:27, merely on the grounds of suspicion? 1 Kings 8:39 says he knows the heart of every human, meaning he could have known in an instant who has and who hasn’t been unfaithful, which would avoided the obvious destruction or collateral damage to the foetus that theists claim is sacrosanct. What a decrepid and vacuous epistemology. Not using this for pro-life argumentation, but it’s clear that Christ didn’t give a monkeys about the unborn when he supposedly pre-existed to his own birth in th OT. Any wonder the bible is possibly one the most debunked books of all.

there's a flaw in his argument though, the person in the coma has lived and will continue to live after. a fetus hasn't lived. the point is that he shouldn't be able to make a law for everyone bc it's not his business at all. it's no body's buisness except the parents, the pro choice stance isn't saying that everyone needs an abortion, it's saying there should be a choice. some people are directly against gay people bc of their religion, but it's the gay persons choice to date a dude. obviously that's a slightly off analogy as gay isn't a choice while abortion should be but you can see my point.

@@jamesbw2 Why does it matter if something has lived before? That literally has no place in any pro choice argument. The comparison between a baby forming and someone in a coma is a valid comparison. Both are non sentient, kept alive via some external thing, and have to be taken care of for a significant amount of time after becoming sentient. Hospitals do not get to kill coma patients because its convenient. People dont get to kill babies because its convenient. Which is really what this boils down to. No pro life person is arguing for no abortion if the mothers life is at risk. So what do pro choicers really want? The ability to kill babies for their convenience and to avoid personal responsibility. That is evil pure and simple.

When government forces moral choices it almost never ends well. Also I disagree that I am straw-manning because the religious conservative movement is quite strong now a days and apart of the strong conservative movement is its values which include no pre marital sex, no contraceptives, and and no abortions. So sad....I spent most of my career as a NICU RN and we saved these babies. Our parents were desperate to have these babies survive At the end of my career I worked in a Level 2 Nursery and I attended a delivery of a 23 week old baby who actually had no chance to survive. The parents were heart broken. Sadly, many NICU RNs in the '90s were totally okay with abortion. That was shocking to me and we did not talk about it. I saw so many amazing miracles of babies that actually survived some crazy situations where babies with bad illnesses survive and have creation miracles like those babies that had intestines born outside the body. We also had a mom with cancer who would not abort her baby and she waited until after her baby to receive treatment for the cancer, but died shortly after her baby was born. She knew that pregnancy advances cancer at an alarming rate, but chose her babies life over hers. I honestly think that I would have done the same. My first child was born when I was almost 35 and went into septic shock,, but lived and I had mini strokes after her birth due to post partum eclampsia and sadly destroyed my marriage. I was asked by a co-worker if her birth was worth that c-section and I said that if I died tomorrow my life would have had worth. I still believe that today as she is an amazing woman and mother of 2 boys and had major difficulty with the births and her younger sister is a delight as well. Our youngest Rachel is Director at a Vet College in charge of Student Services so a caretaker as well. So 3 of our grandkids were difficult births and so welcome into their families and the last was born 8 weeks early and I wonder if it was due to mom having COVID? They are absolutely the reason that life is worth living. I now have a horrid auto immune disease, but doing amazing I think because of these kids. I believe those babes that were miscarriages that is ever so common and those aborted babies do make it to heaven for sure. We will get to hug and love on them for sure. The earth is a difficult place and an alien land.

It's funny you say that cause if I had been there I would have stumped him with my pro choice argument, which is that a fetus has no right to life. This is because a fetus is not sentient until at least 18 weeks, so why should it have a right to life before then? Given it isn't sentient and doesn't have any relationships the only thing you can say is it's potential to become a sentient human. However you must remember that the fetus only became a fetus with that potential because of mothers choice and willingness to commit to 9 months of pregnancy, it would never have existed and got the potential to become a sentient human if she didn't choose for it to exist with her willingness to commit to 9 months of pregnancy, and the ONLY consequence of aborting a non sentient fetus it is that it won't go on to become a sentient human. So when a mother loses willingness to go through pregnancy and stops the pregnancy, the fetus loses it's potential to become a sentient human, which it only got from the mothers willingness to be pregnant, and since the fetus losing it's potential to become a sentient human is the ONLY consequence, she should have the right to stop the pregnancy. Just as when someone agrees to do something, and the only consequence of them stopping the agreement is that they won't do the agreed thing, they should have the right to stop their agreement. There can be cases where stopping agreements can have consequences other than the agreed thing not happening, for example agreeing to pay builders to build a house then stopping your agreement halfway through them building the house, the consequence of this is not just you not paying them, but they have put in ours of unpaid labour, in these cases people may lose their right to just stop an agreement. But this is not the case with abortion, as while the fetus is not sentient, the only consequence of aborting it is it will lose it's potential to become a sentient human, but it only got this potential because the mothers agreement to create this fetus with this potential, so stopping the agreement is this case just means the agreed thing not happening. You might ask but what about someone it a coma who has lost sentience? If someone is in a coma and is being kept alive by a hospital, but you kill them, you have intervened with their life by killing them, they would have continued living had you not intervened. This is not the case with abortion as the fetus must stay attached to the mothers body, it won't survive if detached and left alone by the mother. You might also ask should the hospital even keep someone alive if they are in a coma and not sentient? If this person in a coma wants to live, then a hospital keeping them alive until they wake up is beneficial to their well-being, and in that sense better than letting them die. If a fetus was kept alive by the mother or could be detached and kept alive by a hospital it would be beneficial to the future human's well-being as they probably like being alive. Does this mean a mother should be forced to keep unwanted pregnancies? No, as the fetus has no right to life for reasons just explained.

    • @8is

@@bharlie10 That would probably fall under the argument that if a person is in a coma with no brain activity and is not self depended at all relying on someone else to live (you don't call that live but that's not important right now) it is okay to pull the plug and kill that person. I recommend you to watch the entire conversation at 2:00. The thing about this kind of argument is that you can't argue against it per se because either you value the potential of a living human being or you don't and there isn't anything that says you have to agree with one of them because morality is subjective. The thing is if you think in this way (and a lot of other pro-choice philosophies) a lot of strange, bizarre and even perhaps then immoral consequences occur. I haven't heard any good arguments about why your moral stance shouldn't be consistent with different occurrences it applies. I think that people generally wouldn't think it's okay to pull the plug in the scenario earlier especially if they know that the person will wake up and be perfectly fine even if that person has say memory problems. But let's say you're fine with killing that person that means you don't care about what will be true and certain in the future and you can see at the end of the conversation I talked about earlier you're fine to have that opinion and there isn't anything that would convince you otherwise just I, and probably you, wouldn't want to be in a comma with people thinking like this is around. And this could also apply when you inevitably find yourself in the womb of your mother. Poor human being. Anyway, what do you think about all this? If you have anything to say, say it! Could be about my comment, could be about the conversation in the video - anything!

But no one should be forced to keep them alive. And that's it, you can make up your subjective moral stances however you wish after that. But in the case of abortion, a mother should not have to bring her fetus to term, as it needs to stay attached to her body, and with the fact it is only there in the first place because the mother was willing for it to stay attached to her body, if doesn't want to keep it, she shouldn't have to.

This is some deeply like-based thing, "I am a human so I like humans", even if those humans don't have a brain.
When Shapiro says that "in 9 months it will become a person, so you cant kill it now", I just want to ask one thing. If you discourage two opposite sex people from mating, do you in fact kill the child that they would have had otherwise, without your manipultlation? Or there is something special about the particular moment of conception that makes any action preventing the child from appearing after that wrong?

How do you think the Nazis justified Aktion T4 or the holocaust? One of the problems is that literally every pro abortion argument can be applied to people who have already been born and that is very dangerous. Either all human life is valuable or none of it is. Not to mention that we can't measure consciousness, we barely even understand the concept. What is consciousness how do you define it, how do you determine if something has or hasn't got it. You can't, because it's not measurable. What about people who are comatose? What about people who are asleep? I had an abortion at 19yrs old. I was with an abusive partner who SA me because he got drunk one night an didnt take no for an answer. I bled and kept quiet about it because i feared him, one day i didnt have my period i went into planned parenthood and they said i was pregnant i beleive it was around 6weeks. I went back home and was confronted with another beating but this time my stomach was kicked severely and i knew it was over. It took me 3 days to recover and head back to planned parenthood where i had asked to be seen and they confirmed that my baby was dead. They offered an abortion so that i wouldnt get sick or anything from the dead fetus, i agreed. Day later i went in got the procedure done didnt realize it hurt so bad didnt get comfort from the nurse that was there all she said was "you better not yell or scream" they left and the hate on the ladies face was just horrible. The other ladies where comforting though because i had told them what was going on and they gave me help they provided safety and shelter and soon my ex was arrested and charged. That was over 9 years ago. I am married now with a 2yr old son, and to a man that worships the floor i walk on. i cry wondering how my first baby would have been if they werent killed from that beating. I wonder how they would have looked and talked like.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, but it's not the same thing. You didn't have an abortion, technically. Your baby was already dead, as awful as it sounds to put it so bluntly. You didn't kill them, your abuser did. I can't imagine the pain and guilt you carry and I hope time eases that for you, but you did not abort a viable fetus. You shouldn't be carrying that burden on your heart. Easier said than done, I'm sure, but you were innocent in that scenario and I wish you continued happiness in your new life.

It's funny, but doesn't hold as an argument. Since nobody argues that the fetus was a living human being/person before conception. And those who insist, also insist that it is one after abortion. Except hindus maybe, but they still see that as a good outcome.
We distinguish between things that exist and don't exist. The soul, prior to the soul, does not exist. The soul after the soul, does not exist. But as we intuit it, someone in a coma still has a soul. It's just temporarily disabled, on a vacation, name it what you want.
Of course, we may believe other things. But faith doesn't hold as an argument in politics.

      @@luisishere987
Sure. We tend to believe in a continuous soul that makes us a person, in some form or another. We disagree on what souls really are, and religion is no argument in politics.
But it offers us a working framework regarding murder.
When you're asleep, or in a coma, you're still there. Even if you're not responsive. Hence, your body is protected.
When you're dead, or your corpse is reanimated, you're not there. Even if your body still moves. Hence, your body is not protected.
And when you're not there yet - for instance, a replacement body that's still sitting on a shelf for later use, or a fetus before ensoulment - you're not there. Even if it can move. Hence, your body is not protected.
I think that'll be a relatable framework for most people here (even if we'd argue on details). It works fine even if you believe a fetus is ensouled in its first second. And while I have some doubts, I think it's as fair a starting point as any.

      @@matthewt5335 yes Im very well aware of third world countries, but if people just started giving birth to babies they didn't want just because of the (stop abortion is horrible) would mean a drastic raise in world population which we have a massive issue at the moment, sooner or later farms will not even be able to feed all this hungry mouth including us even if you have money because the food resources wouldn't be enough, that's why in China there was a child restriction birth, and this is also why governments are also trying to introduce insect in our diet which they already are, they done that to the flour in Italy;
no child is happy in orphanage and would also mean affecting the economy terribly as the would be millions and millions of orphanages,
Do you understand how unrealistic this plan is? People would have to start paying taxes twice as much to sustain so many children and might I remind you of inflation people struggle to pass by and can barely afford to eat, there wouldn't be enough staff to take care for all of them to begin with and sooner or later a new law would establish that if you have an unvanted child you can't even bring it to an orphanage because no spaces are available, and that's when people start abandoning their children wherever they have the chance, many would die even more brutal deaths than an abortion at 1 to 3 weeks of life and the economy would get even more fucked up then it already is. Just because of a law that states, you are not allowed to abort. As brutal as that sound that's reality, you truly believe that forcing someone to keep their unwanted child is better? And yes after giving such a law the numbers of children abandoned and in orphanages would high rocket, causing the government to introduce abortion again and actually encourage it, because the money the government gives to businesses and orphanages is taken through taxes that we pay. Do I have to remind you of inflation? Not everyone can be saved, that's also a reason why there are wars going on, for example the one right now with Russia is not just happend there is a lot proof that it was planned from 2015, why? Because we "humanity" are reproducing like rabbits. And Covid? There was a book published 10 years ago speaking of how covid will come too. All of this is planned to control the worlds population as ridiculous as it sounds is true. This is the world we live in. I have been told more than 7 years ago that a 3WW was coming and I also thought that was a load of bullshit, but look at what's happening now. Most of the children born in this era will have no future or a good job, and the numerous disocupation / homeless and no job would increase even more. So what's the point of bringing more souls in this world? When it's this ruined already and about to fall before everyone's eyes? You feeling better because an unborn baby is not aborted? That's not a reason.

@@gigidotto9014 so you mean to say that killing babies is good because it solves world hunger and overpopulation?.... two things, one of which is entirely made up and the other is VERY solvable, first lets talk about world hunger, world hunger is a very real but also a very solvable problem, and the answer to solving it is not more charities or more government regulations, the answer is YOU. There have been entire CITIES like mecca, where 100s of years ago when almost everyone was Muslim there, the amount of people not being fed were ASTONISHINGLY low, almost non existent, not because everyone was rich, but because everyone was rich at heart, neighbors would check on others to see if they had eaten, entire places would be made for free food and stay, all out of generosity. Nowadays people just pay $1 to a charity and expect the charity to magically reach all parts of the world and end world hunger, world hunger can be solved JUST by being aware of your surroundings and helping out in any capacity you can rather than donating to charities where that money will go through several people, buildings and bank accounts to end up feeding a person. *Now that we have a very much easier solution to world hunger, do you mean to say mass genocide of kids is better than THIS?* Now lets talk about the second reason for the justification of abortions, world population is not a true problem in this world, overpopulated AREAS is. There has been a MASSIVE decline of population in Japan and other countries which prohibit more than 2 children or pay for abortions, there is already a need for an estimated 10 MILLION working individuals, or lets talk about Poland which has the lowest birth rate since the end of the Second World War. The hoax of over population is created to push agendas such as abortion, its also created because big companies want to say that overpopulation is the cause of climate change and not their negligence while discarding materials like plastic or making excessive green house gas emissions. *Now one of the reason you stated was fake, and the other one is easily treatable*
Another thing you said was "what's the point of bringing more souls in this world?"
And my answer to that is, there's really not allot of point if you look at it from an individualistic stand point, I mean yeah your kids would contribute to society but that won't affect you the parents, so why should you have kids? well, if you don't want kids, then DON'T HAVE KIDS!
It shouldn't be that the child should have to pay for with his/her's life with for the mistakes YOU as a mother and father made, if you didn't want the kid then maybe you should've used contraceptives, *the product of your ignorance shouldn't be the death of a child*

The second my last child was born, I called her by name and she turned her head toward me. Every time I spoke, she turned toward me. She recognized my voice, and her name, because I had talked to her the whole pregnancy. The nurses were amazed, because she didn't respond to anyone else in the room. So don't tell me she didn't have consciousness and memory and learning ability while she was in the womb.

This. The first time I held my son in my arms, when he was just a few moments out of the womb, I sang a song I'd been singing to him all throughout the pregnancy. He immediately stopped crying, opened his eyes and looked at me, recognition on his face. He knew my voice. He knew that song, and it comforted him. It's amazing to me that the second guy in this clip uses newborn babies recognizing their parents' voices as evidence to refute the notion that born babies have self-awareness, but he doesn't recognize the greater implication that his means the babies were forming memories inside the womb.

Ben never even made an argument for rape/incest because most people are not okay with forcing a woman to give birth to baby conceived through rape. It’s cruel, much worse than killing a baby. No one even brought up if the baby is a danger to the mothers life. I was stillborn and a very skilled doctor arrived from outside of our town in time to revive my lifeless infant self while my parents looked on in grief. In my hometown there were a number of women all expecting at the same time. In the end an illness, which all the mothers caught, struck down all of the other infants resulting in one stillborn child after another. My mother used to tell me stories of how I had seven mothers for the first few years of my life as my survival was considered a miracle. So, thank you
