Leif is different - he has unique benefits (availability, no Fatigue, other bonuses like Leadership stars). His PRFs help, he carries the earlygame and helps out again a ton in the lategame. For the midgame, he falls off, but he's got much more utility than FE11 Marth. His combat is just solid, and he's not in the same league of benefits as your staff users, but he's able to contribute well. Roy is an interesting case where it's really about the game around him. Roy is actually not dissimilar to Ike in Path of Radiance, Ike just promotes + gets his 1-2 range sword earlier, and is in a game with some fairly weak enemies (plus you have 'more ways' to show him favoritism using skills). If you are playing FE6 fast, even if Roy can contribute in combat, he's better off not doing so because a chunk of the game is ferrying him over to the seize point.

I played Shadow Dragon (DS) about 8 times. And Marth was always the one to slay Medeus and hold his own throughout the game about 6 out of 8 times! Tiki killed him in the last two but that's cause she got to him first before Marth! And that's her job, if you failed to get the Falchion, Marth is outright useless against Medeus and that's where she steps in! But she'd have never made it to Medeus without Marth's army so there's that. Sword locked yes, useless no. Hell POR Ike was rocking hard as well for my four runs of it before I lost the game. His sword lock did make him vulnerable to Lance wielders, but then I rarely PUT MY UNITS IN RANGE OF THOSE WITH TRIANGLE ADVANTAGE AGAINST THEM (I'm not stupid) Guess when you have those easily distracted by dangling shinny keys (Unit with Monster Growths that is given to them) then anything else (Loved Titania , but my time with Seth and the Jagen taught me NOT to overrely on them early on. But I guess I'm more a lover of Unpromoted units I can grow over units that are already promoted minus a rare few like Titania, Seth, Xander, Camilla, Leo, and Ryoma) never found a lord that I felt sucked other then Roy, and that's cause Binding Sword they went down HARD on making him the King Piece that you'll lose the game if he dies.....and then give you the shiny Binding Blade that makes up for how badly they fucked up his Base Stats. Frankly I feel if you can't find a way to make bad units useful (that AREN'T SUPER bad like Matthias and Makalov and even THEN I made them useful and found use! Guess RNG REALLY loves me LOL) then I don't got much to say to you (It's the reason FE is boring I guess, if every run will ALWAYS be packed with the "Best Units" guess that's why Reclass is so beloved, without it, there's be no way for these's types to extend their interest because they don't even want to LOOK at bad units....or not give into the temptation of "Warp Skipping" (Got to wonder what would happen if the Warp staff "warped" itself out of their inventory, I'm sure they would SCREAM in HORROR that they have to play the game legitimately! My first time playing Shadow Dragon I thought Marth would promote around past Chapter 16 so i have him like at lvl 20 and thought oh he can get more levels pass lvl 20 , thats sick , once he promotes he will be a beast…….. Lets say it never happened and I end up with a high level foot lock sword unit and somewhat under level some of my characters. Thank Kaga for Sedgar , Wolf and Tiki.

Marth was good in Mystery of Emblem but I'm doing a Fire Emblem series marathon where I play through every game( I'm at FE7 Blazing Sword), and Palla and Catria in book 2 of OG Mystery of the Emblem were absolutely disgusting stat wise.

@@ivanbluecool No, I get the joke. GBA Lords being carried by other, better units. I just don't think Hector is better than Eliwood. Also GBA games don't have a dex stat, they have a skill stat. If you're curious, my Eliwood's stats were 54 HP, 27 Strength, 24 Skill, 20 Speed, 25 Luck, 22 Def and 13 Res. I'm pretty sure this is mostly without stat boosters as well as I tried to put most of those in the Lyn who ended the game with 19 Strength.
@@rakurai4953 Hector folds both other lords at the same time. The only thing Eliwood has over Hector is mounted movement, and that's it. Hector has axes, 1-2 range (Eli and Lyn get that only lategame), alot of bulk, and even a very good Affinity if you care about that. Wolf Beil also massacres in a Lance-heavy game with a decent amount of enemy Cavs.

Hilariously, this is sorta canon in New Mystery of the Emblem. You make a custom unit who is described as Marth's shadow. They work hard to stay unknown while helping Marth, such that everything they do is attributed to Marth. Supposedly, Marth's legend becomes so big that it's impossible for a single man to have achieved so much in a single lifetime. Yeah, cuz he didn't do half of it.
Were the lord characters really that bad in older games? I just thought that with how cracked Fire emblem MCs usually are in the more modern games that they were all busted/good in their originals.
Roy especially is notoriously awful. Marth in Fe1 is like the only really good unit in his game but the fe2 and 3 lords are meh, fe5 is pretty bad when you actually look at raw stats. This video uses marth in Fe10 but ngl I don't remember how good he is in that one
lets see fe1 marth is really good fe2 alm is decent celica is meh didn’t play fe3 or know much about ut fe4 sigurd is absolutely busted and seliph is pretty good fe5 lief is weird fe6 roy is only good with supports so have fun standing still for like 50 turns in a row if you want him to do damage(you could build up supports by intentionally keeping him near other units while playing the map instead of at the end but that gets riskier the later in the game it is) until he can promote fe7 lyn and eliwood’s prfs got destroyed in english due to effective weapons being nerfed but hector is pretty damn good fe8 eirika is kinda bad but ephraim is great fe9 and 10 never played but i hear ike is solid and micaiah is the worst lord in the franchise fe11 and 12 marth is around as good as in fe1 problem is weapon triangle now exists and all the other units got better so he got powercrept behind, kris is solid but gets busted if you do the tutorial for the extra exp
I've been looking back and apparently Roy was also really bad, being stuck with bad stats and is forced to be a swordfighter on foot. So was Marth. Most of what I'm listing is just what I'm reading from websites and not personal experience. Other main character units: Alm has few weaknesses. Sigurd was really good as he's a pre-promote and is a Cavalry unit in a huge game. Leif was alright, but was better in Genealogy. Lyn is meh, Hector is a Tank and Nobody plays Eliwood mode. Eirika was Carried by Seth due to awful stats, but Ephraim was a great unit. Ike starts weak but becomes bulky late game. Michia is a mage, not a frontliner but is more of glass canon. Chrom is a solid unit. Corrin is Neat due to dragon shit. Byleth is legit the only reason you can get through new game Maddening when you don't have Dedue to tank as almost everyone else gets 1 rounded. Alear is good, fantastic personal skill and can fit into almost every role. It was mostly just Marth and Roy being awful units through their games, you'd think that they would have play tested to see if the main characters are actually serviceable units without being handed a god weapon at the end of the game.
By the way about "why Marth but not Roy?" Roy can actually beat his final boss on the hardest difficulty on his own after he finally gets his promotion and Binding Blade Marth gets one rounded almost every time by H5 Medues even when capped lvl 30 and requires tons of hp and def stat boosters to even survive. Roy isn't a better unit in Fe 6 than Marth is in Fe11, but at least he doesn't need to steal anyone's credit to finish the final boss.
To be far in *MOST* not all FE games the lord is the one leading the army so even if they don't fight they're the ones who blocked reinforcements by having his units stand on forts.
Marth is at least better than people give him credit for. Speedruns outright have him do most of the leg work with forged rapiers before you get some of the busted units towards the end of the run. Granted, most people dont do speedrun strats, and the higher difficulties throw a wrench into those strats. But hey, it's more than what some others can do.
Trained he can hold his own for sure ! Yeah swords aren't as good, but he can still fight, it's just that Medeus is insanely strong in that remake, particularly in H5 when he always have the uper hand on Marth 25 speed

Your strength doesn't need to be from yourself, it can be from your friends. ...oh, and this is actually part of the reason why IS is really trying, very, very hard to make future lord characters after FE11 to be strong and good in some way. I think FE12 and FE13 had it at least fair and balanced enough, then it goes downhill as they try to amplify the strength of the lords so that they won't be outclassed by most units in the game. Three Houses was the biggest offender. Between Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, THEY. ALL ARE THE STRONGEST MAINLINE FE GAME LORDS. EVER.
Not really, Sigurd and Seliph are both better than the Three Houses lords and if were counting the main characters as "lords" then Robin and Kris are better too. Edit: Alear too tbh
I liked Ephraim. He didn't seem too strong compared to the rest of the cast, but he was good enough to actually want to deploy him. Chrom was kinda good at that too.

Huh meanwhile for me in my run of shadow dragon Marth just 1 shoted Medeus with a crit so i don't really see how terrible he supposed to be then again somehow bantu was working fine for me too 😅 (still benched him when i got tiki tho)
Marth is bad on higher difficulties because he starts weak and starting with H3 he can't handle Medeus at all (on H3 he needs capped speed not to be doubled as Medeus has 29, on H4 and H5 Medeus has 30 and always doubles Marth). And also because Falchion is up there with Sol Katti and Bragi's Blade as worst endgame lord personals.
I make it a point to make my lords good for romanticism, only lords to me that were hard to not make good were Ephraim, Robin, Lucina, byleth, and Alear

I beat Shadow Dragon a few years ago, grinded Marth to level 40 out of spite, and he was still only a mediocre unit.

I wished they made BEXP a staple for the franchise. That greatly helps characters with shaky growth rates. If that thing was on FE7, Lyn and Eliwood would avoid getting STR screwed.

Marth does recruit more characters than Caeda, it's just that she stands out since there's no character who isn't Marth that can recruit that many people. It's really a shame FE11 ruined his reputation as a good unit lol...

For real, Dimitri was a beast. What’s more scary is that Hilda is almost as good as him, and you get her in the same run you get Claude “Somehow Amazing Archer on a Dragon” Von Riegan.

Also GBA games don't have a dex stat, they have a skill stat.
If you're curious, my Eliwood's stats were 54 HP, 27 Strength, 24 Skill, 20 Speed, 25 Luck, 22 Def and 13 Res.
I'm pretty sure this is mostly without stat boosters as well as I tried to put most of those in the Lyn who ended the game with 19 Strength.
@@rakurai4953 Hector folds both other lords at the same time. The only thing Eliwood has over Hector is mounted movement, and that's it. Hector has axes, 1-2 range (Eli and Lyn get that only lategame), alot of bulk, and even a very good Affinity if you care about that. Wolf Beil also massacres in a Lance-heavy game with a decent amount of enemy Cavs.

I dont know what it is but i always get incredibly blessed Eliwoods while Hector and Lyn are a given and take from run to run.
Hilariously, this is sorta canon in New Mystery of the Emblem. You make a custom unit who is described as Marth's shadow. They work hard to stay unknown while helping Marth, such that everything they do is attributed to Marth. Supposedly, Marth's legend becomes so big that it's impossible for a single man to have achieved so much in a single lifetime. Yeah, cuz he didn't do half of it.
Were the lord characters really that bad in older games? I just thought that with how cracked Fire emblem MCs usually are in the more modern games that they were all busted/good in their originals.
Yeah, they were, there are only like 5 lords pre-awakening that are good units
Roy especially is notoriously awful. Marth in Fe1 is like the only really good unit in his game but the fe2 and 3 lords are meh, fe5 is pretty bad when you actually look at raw stats. This video uses marth in Fe10 but ngl I don't remember how good he is in that one

fe6 roy is only good with supports so have fun standing still for like 50 turns in a row if you want him to do damage(you could build up supports by intentionally keeping him near other units while playing the map instead of at the end but that gets riskier the later in the game it is) until he can promote
fe7 lyn and eliwood’s prfs got destroyed in english due to effective weapons being nerfed but hector is pretty damn good
fe8 eirika is kinda bad but ephraim is great
fe9 and 10 never played but i hear ike is solid and micaiah is the worst lord in the franchise
fe11 and 12 marth is around as good as in fe1 problem is weapon triangle now exists and all the other units got better so he got powercrept behind, kris is solid but gets busted if you do the tutorial for the extra exp
I've been looking back and apparently Roy was also really bad, being stuck with bad stats and is forced to be a swordfighter on foot. So was Marth. Most of what I'm listing is just what I'm reading from websites and not personal experience.
Other main character units:
Alm has few weaknesses.
Sigurd was really good as he's a pre-promote and is a Cavalry unit in a huge game.
Leif was alright, but was better in Genealogy.
Lyn is meh, Hector is a Tank and Nobody plays Eliwood mode.
Eirika was Carried by Seth due to awful stats, but Ephraim was a great unit.
Ike starts weak but becomes bulky late game.
Michia is a mage, not a frontliner but is more of glass canon.
Chrom is a solid unit.
Corrin is Neat due to dragon shit.
Byleth is legit the only reason you can get through new game Maddening when you don't have Dedue to tank as almost everyone else gets 1 rounded.
Alear is good, fantastic personal skill and can fit into almost every role.
It was mostly just Marth and Roy being awful units through their games, you'd think that they would have play tested to see if the main characters are actually serviceable units without being handed a god weapon at the end of the game.
I just got finished playing Path of Radiance and Ike was just ok early game, but late game he was unstoppable. He punted Ashnard’s head into the sun
By the way about "why Marth but not Roy?"
Roy can actually beat his final boss on the hardest difficulty on his own after he finally gets his promotion and Binding Blade
Marth gets one rounded almost every time by H5 Medues even when capped lvl 30 and requires tons of hp and def stat boosters to even survive.
Roy isn't a better unit in Fe 6 than Marth is in Fe11, but at least he doesn't need to steal anyone's credit to finish the final boss.
If only Great Lord existed in Shadow Dragon...
In my playthrough my Roy actually had amazing level ups and actually didn't need anyone to cover or rescue him... 🤷♂️
To be far in *MOST* not all FE games the lord is the one leading the army so even if they don't fight they're the ones who blocked reinforcements by having his units stand on forts.

Marth is at least better than people give him credit for. Speedruns outright have him do most of the leg work with forged rapiers before you get some of the busted units towards the end of the run. Granted, most people dont do speedrun strats, and the higher difficulties throw a wrench into those strats. But hey, it's more than what some others can do.
Trained he can hold his own for sure ! Yeah swords aren't as good, but he can still fight, it's just that Medeus is insanely strong in that remake, particularly in H5 when he always have the uper hand on Marth 25 speed
@gabrielclamens3151 iirc if your marth isn't capped on speed, he will always be doubled by medeus. Its insane they never thought to make the guy whos supposed to kill the dark dragon pretty useless on h5

...oh, and this is actually part of the reason why IS is really trying, very, very hard to make future lord characters after FE11 to be strong and good in some way. I think FE12 and FE13 had it at least fair and balanced enough, then it goes downhill as they try to amplify the strength of the lords so that they won't be outclassed by most units in the game. Three Houses was the biggest offender. Between Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, THEY. ALL ARE THE STRONGEST MAINLINE FE GAME LORDS. EVER.
Not really, Sigurd and Seliph are both better than the Three Houses lords and if were counting the main characters as "lords" then Robin and Kris are better too.

I liked Ephraim. He didn't seem too strong compared to the rest of the cast, but he was good enough to actually want to deploy him. Chrom was kinda good at that too.

Thief 20 str cap, +10 forged silver sword = 22 might, +3 dmg from A rank sword. Lightsphere to ignore throne boost. Total is 45 atk vs Medeus 25 def = 20 dmg, He has 60 hp, so 1 crit is a clean OHKO

Marth is bad on higher difficulties because he starts weak and starting with H3 he can't handle Medeus at all (on H3 he needs capped speed not to be doubled as Medeus has 29, on H4 and H5 Medeus has 30 and always doubles Marth). And also because Falchion is up there with Sol Katti and Bragi's Blade as worst endgame lord personals.
