Amen brother. Folks are so lazy today it's pathetic. That man doing the elbow grease wont last long, his body will start protesting. People should get up and do it themselves, especially when new. GOD bless.
Cut-n-buff. It’s done on auto paint too. Only so much gelcoat/paint (thickness) though, so it can only be done so much…. That Florida sun is a killer.😎
2 years ago I did my 24 mckee craft carolina blue, 1 side i went 600 first other side started with 1000, the side that didn't get 600 oxidized badly when the side that got a 600 grit stayed much better. Just redone the complete boat, 600, 800, 1200, 3M heavy, 3m finess + wax, got deep color and mirror shine. worth the effort.
Currently doing this to my interior. I'm learning 😂. Stopped wet sanding at 1500 and didn't have the proper cut compound so what I did is better than it was but I'm going over it all with 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000 then the last two steps of the 3M process.
Great way to finish off any boat is to do final clean with alcohol to clean surface and finish with a hybrid SiO2 ceramic spray like turtle wax. Awesome result, cheap and lasts minimum 12 months in the salt. Won't yellow out...
Great video. My man doing the work knows his stuff. I'm a life long boater, Miami/Ft Lauderdale area and I live on the water and keep my boat in the water. It's a 1996 Marlin 350 SF and I wax and polish the hull sides every few years but the side that is not against the dock gets a direct east sun exposure so one side of my boat is always more beat up than the other. I just hauled my boat after 2+ years in the water and did the bottom paint, engine maintenance and of course some waxing. My hull was no where near as bad as the one in this video so I did not have to do the wet sanding. But I have done it to other boats and it really makes a difference when done right. For my boat this haul out I was able to just use a good marine polish and orbital buffer and it came out nice. Next time around I will likely do the wet sanding.
I would seriously give an actual sealant or even better, a ceramic coating a hard look. They protect and last far far longer. Especially the ceramic coating. Wax might last a month. Sealant will probably get you 4-6 months. Ceramic should get you close to a year.
Thank you, actually yes, it's about time for another project boat and were finishing up another boat this week so this one will probably up for sale shortly!
I have a similar size boat that is also a center console and in similar paint condition. About how much does a job like this run? I just don’t have the time or polishers to do this myself
You should use a sanding indicator like dyechem. Wipe it on then sand it off to make sure you get 100% coverage. You can also use a pencil as well and just draw pencil mark then sand them off
I recon you use compounds for metals. The same principle should apply. But bare metal will oxidice fast. Look up some videos about it, there are a few that focus on that.
Nice job guys, a quick question is the machine a DA or rotary? Can it be done with both? And is it possible to compound with car compound, with it work with gelcoat?
To give an answer; when i worked at a boat shop we used a machine that kinda rotates and oscilates/vibrates. It oscilates and vibrates more than it rotates. Idk what you call it but that is the closest description. As for compound i would use a product designed for gelcoat. And remember that if you use a machine like a polisher, dont use a lot of pressure as that can make the gelcoat cook.
How about on darker colors like blue red and greens? It seems impossible to get my lil red powerskiff back to original shine.........ive tried everything except repainting or new gel.....
@@acemarinedetailing940 lol 😂 anything is possible my friend yes. I guess my question was really how much effort do i need to go through to get this hull gleaming again? Ive tried wet sanding and all grades of cutting fluids for buffing.... The only thing that had brought the original shine back was doing a repair on the bottom. Dry sanding down to 80grit and goung up through the numbers then buffing that spot looks brilliant rest of the hull......eeek! Lol Thanks my man
Darker colors are just harder to work with because of the lights reflection. Bright colors will reflect more light and in a way hide more of the imperfections. Darker colors will make wear and tear more visible in general. I would suggest following the process in this video, with the 1000 and 2000 wet sand (with proper quality on the paper/pad) And maybe try get some compound for your color as that could make a slight difference. The most important thing is time and effort. And a decent machine to make your life easier doesnt hurt either.
The tall brown bottle with a white label is 3M imperial compound. Its very expensive compound ($80 per quart) but you can do at least 3 boats this size with that bottle. The purple bottle with an orange label is 3M Heavy Cut Wax. Its basically Wax with a little bit of abrasives in it along with the wax. 3M makes some great detailing supplies but they are very pricy. You get what you pay for though
Your channel is compromised. I received a notice that you commented on my "samoan manbun" comment. It said I won a prize and to text a number. Total scam
Great information very informative thanks Andrew
The only thing missing... Shade ⛱️
You are both masters of your craft! Awesome!
Thank you very much!
Looks great, I have a 1991 Sea Ray that still looks like new, their so much easier when you stay on top of washing and waxing all season long
Amen brother. Folks are so lazy today it's pathetic. That man doing the elbow grease wont last long, his body will start protesting. People should get up and do it themselves, especially when new. GOD bless.
Like a brand new boat! Great work fellas. That ain’t easy either.
Lol no it isn't! I just did my 91 Seaswirl and it's a Lotta work!
Thanks for the explanation , really helps when you have a pro show you the best way.
Can’t wait to see one for getting a full finish on a allow surface but this was outstanding!
Cut-n-buff. It’s done on auto paint too. Only so much gelcoat/paint (thickness) though, so it can only be done so much…. That Florida sun is a killer.😎
holy hell.....my boat needs this soooo badly. Maybe next off season when it's on blocks i'll give her the lovin she deserves on the gel coat.
That gentleman is very knowledgeable, big mahalos from Hawaii
Looks awesome Andrew and Aaron! Nice job! Wish this guy was in my lo-cal he does amazing work
That's hard work. I can see how Andrew got bulked up! Nice job.
Nice and shiny. In case you don't know what to do this next winter, my boat will be in the backyard!

great video and great boat. i'm refitting a 80's little boat on my channel. u are helping me a lot.
Glad to help
Looks great Aaron came out real nice need to do that to mine! That's a lotta work though one of these days I'll get 'er done! Lol
Now i know why it was 600 bucks for just my hull!!! That's a lot of work
Please talk about the cordless buffer. I couldn't tell the make or model.
Looks great! I love shiny
Awesome vid.
Love your content.
Appreciate it!

Star rite makes a gel coat restoration kit that is amazing.

Man what a great job but can he show us how to do the non slip floor.?
looking good 👍🏾
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing results!!
Thank you!
Just had this done to my Lake & Bay. Amazing the difference. What’s the up keep schedule for applying wax? Every two months, every six months, etc…?
I would seriously give an actual sealant or even better, a ceramic coating a hard look. They protect and last far far longer. Especially the ceramic coating. Wax might last a month. Sealant will probably get you 4-6 months. Ceramic should get you close to a year.
Looking good
Just be careful not to sand to hard in case the gelcoat is too thin. Easily done
Nice ocean master they had good gelcoat do you want to sell her
Thank you, actually yes, it's about time for another project boat and were finishing up another boat this week so this one will probably up for sale shortly!
What buffer/polisher is being used? Very interesting its battery powered and has enough strength to do it?
Awesome thank you
No problem!
I have a similar size boat that is also a center console and in similar paint condition. About how much does a job like this run? I just don’t have the time or polishers to do this myself
Hey Jordan ! Send us a message acemarinedetailing@gmail.Com
I wish he’d come to Texas. Looks brand new
Cheers, came out looking great! How many hours in total you spend on the detailing?
I believe, that could have been done in half the time, a third of the cost with a finish that would surprise you.
Lee
What an amazing job, I may need to haul my Boat down from Orlando. I had a joker did my Boat, let us just say a 10-year-old could have done better.
You should use a sanding indicator like dyechem. Wipe it on then sand it off to make sure you get 100% coverage. You can also use a pencil as well and just draw pencil mark then sand them off
Great video. It pays to have a pro do stuff like that.
Thanks 👍
Bro, what do you suggest to use for sanding down old ablative paint to put new coats on?
Is there a ceramic coating used in marine applications?
Yes. Same ceramic coating products can be used on boats.
Rally nice!
How about aluminium boat?
I recon you use compounds for metals. The same principle should apply. But bare metal will oxidice fast. Look up some videos about it, there are a few that focus on that.
Why was he polishing with a compounding pad ?
Nice job guys, a quick question is the machine a DA or rotary? Can it be done with both? And is it possible to compound with car compound, with it work with gelcoat?

Looks like the corners you cut the gelcoat down to Fiborglass, damaged short of repainting
If u look at the start of the video it was there before he started.
To me it seems like its just buildup residue from the polisher as the pad went off the side a bit
Heavy cut does wonders
What size air compressor is used to run that DA sander?
How about on darker colors like blue red and greens? It seems impossible to get my lil red powerskiff back to original shine.........ive tried everything except repainting or new gel.....
Hey Camden it is possible !

Uuuuh, shiny! 🤩
Let me know what you guys used for products pls! I could barely see those labels. That's beautiful by the way!

@@lasersailor0080 cool man i screen shot that for later tkxs!
That's 3m Perfect It is the Beeeeeesssssnasssss
Do you change the polishing pad with each step, or can you use the same pad throughout the entire process?
You need to change pads because there's residuals from the compound
What type of pad was used for the light coat?
Looks like a wool pad. Wool is usually preferred for marine stuff, it cuts super fast and clean
Don't forget the most important step guys! string bikini wearing deck hands
Is that Andrew Pratt? I think I grew up with that guy. Lol
Gelcoat typically 7 times thicker than auto ClearCase. Did a '95 procraft and looks brand new. Great job Andrew.
Man it too bad the color on the bottom need repainted
Almost got scammed from your channel about a giveaway of a kayak.
I've reported and banned multiple scammers, it's bad right now with them on youtube:(
Yeah man!! The broken English always gives it away!! Also when they get upset because your not sending funds fast enough!!!!
Hard to hear

Your channel is compromised. I received a notice that you commented on my "samoan manbun" comment. It said I won a prize and to text a number. Total scam
It looks great but wouldn’t it be beneficial to do the bottom of the boat as well
The bottom is bottom paint, not gelcoat. Ablative paint to defend against marine growth. You don’t polish/buff it.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🧿🇹🇷🇺🇸
Probably hot AF while you guys were doing this too! 🥵
First
800,1000,1500,2000.And duracot technology’s I step polish and compound.you will thank me later. Throw that 3m junk in the trash
