As someone that makes this stuff from scratch regularly I have to say I'm totally blown away about the New Wire Marine products you just got. Absolutely phenomenal how it's all complete and done for you. It looks as good as it can get!!!
Yeah, they do a great job! They sent me a bunch of video from them making our battery box thing, which is sick and you'll really be blown away once we get that in, waiting for a hinge that should get here tomorrow :) but yeah, I'm thinking about putting together a video about that process, it's crazy how the machine just blows through a sheet and it comes out perfect lol
I've installed thousands of acrylic windows in Fl rooms over the past 30yrs, best thing I've found is just plain water with a table spoon of fabric softener and 100% cotton ( cloth baby diaper). I've been back to houses yrs later and glass looks brand new still.
I think you did a great job on this, couple of things I would have done differently is put the compass dead center with the wheel, then the cup holders on the outsides, rather than having to reach across everything. Just a personal preference thing. When drilling plastics that can chip out, clamping a block of hard wood each side that has been pre-drilled will do wonders for guiding the bit through and preventing the chips.
Just want to share what I think is the best way to connect wires. Buy non insulated crimp connectors, slide on marine grade heat shrink, and crimp your connection. Now heat your marine heat shrink [ you can see the glue melt to the wire] and now you have a small water tight connection that also helps protect from wire bending over and over and breaking. Works for butt connections and terminal ends.
I like using weather pack or metri pack connectors to make clean unplug and plug in and they are water/weather resistant. Using the specific crimper with them makes all the difference in the world. Buy once, cry once for the correct tools is what i believe in.
They went down to a drain on the side of the console, we put another drain there in between the speaker and the drain to the console cooler box/seat thing :)
I have a 2006 1720. My switches are fine but the covers were sun bleaches. I did get new covers from new wire marine. Made a big difference. Looking forward to the wiring video. My wiring is a mess. Why do previous owners do such a hack job when it comes to wiring.
No idea! Lol the wiring video should be done and out this weekend ;) wait til you see some of the stuff they did! Like cutting the middle of the main boat ground cable and splicing in a ground for the anchor light and bilge pump and then electrical taping it up lol or the 10 butt connectors between the 2 courtesy lights lol smh
Great video and awesome job I’m rewiring my 99 Striper right now losing time on the water but it’ll be worth it I purchased my new rocker switches from new wire marine but after watching videos I might spend the money on them building out my panel thanks again
Awesome! Not so much awesome about the time off the water, but like you said once it's done it will be years of awesomeness lol yeah, they are great! Wait until you see what we did with the battery box, it's amazing! I was building it myself but then after talking with them we had them build one, you'll love it when you see it, I should have it in Wednesday, I'm waiting for a hinge to come in to put it in. But the rewire of the boat is finished editing just waiting on a couple of clips from the battery box and the rewire will be up too, so that should help you on your rewire project :)
Plexiglass specific drill bits are pretty inexpensive on Amazon and do a much better job than standard drill bits. My second choice is a step bit. They don't snag and chip the acrylic. The 3 bit sets from Harbor Freight are a great deal and work well on fiberglass, too, especially for enlarging existing holes as they self- center. Either way, better drill bits are a lot cheaper than buying new Plexiglass again. I hope this is helpful.
For sure, thank you! I put them on my tools I need list, lol I need to come into a few hundred grand to get all the tools on that list lol but for sure, I'll be getting some and adding them to the arsenal thank you!
They call them "Air Saw Blades" you can get different kinds amzn.to/4clTJXt, different "TPI" or teeth count, just make sure they will fit your sawzall: amzn.to/3ynMEbi
That dash was like $1400, they said usually depending on what buttons and stuff you want, it's like $50-150 per circuit for a dash and most of the ones they do are like $800-3K obviously if you do Bocatechs at like $100 a pop it will be more expensive lol but I like the good ole rockers :)
Could have moved the phone charger closer to the Garmin and then moved the drink holders closer to the compass to lessen the impact of the electronics on the compass.
True, but I didn't like how the fit next to each other, the phone charger stuck out a lot further than the GPS, probably should have filled in the compass hole and moved it :/ oh well :) Here's more on that pad install: th-cam.com/video/B9iccNAzDc8/w-d-xo.html
@@BornAgainBoating Everything in boating is a compromise. So I can't fault your choice but that said, you have a GPS so why do you need a compass. Worried the GPS will fail, electronics are incredibly reliable but if you are seriously concerned, why not just put in a USB port to charge the phone. Why do you need your phone mounted on the dash? The surface area is the same no matter how you arrange things, so it becomes a matter of preference. I'd have chosen less visibility for my phone to keep the compass accurate. Actually, I'd have mounted a USB port elsewhere and kept my phone off the dash. But I'm a boomer and care less about my phone.
I will in the upcoming weeks, I've got to finish making the calculations and make a video about it. I wasn't as good as I intentioned on tracking my time on the boat though, I'm still working on that but there will be a video with all the costs and the things that were done to the boat
I'm only an amateur, but I think you would have been happier with the end product - and possibly even more efficiently done - if you had filled in the old, sloppy holes in the console, by glassing in new marine plywood - or a synthetic - then finishing both inside and out with a one part polyurethane paint on sanded fiberglass - then cutting new, more accurate holes. The result would have been the look of an entirely new console, inside and out.
TAP Plastics Poly Weld: 2ly.link/1z3xR And after that JB Weld Plastic Bonder or PlasticWeld: amzn.to/4dgZuH3 Or using an Extrusion Plastic Welder (But they are stupide expensive lol): amzn.to/3WfcvtB
This whole dash set up was about $1500, but I asked them for some general numbers and they said it's roughly $50-150 per circuit on a dash, depending on what switches you get in the dash. They said most dashes they do are between $800-$3,000 again a lot of variables for what you want to have done
Lol it's my boat, there's no way I could charge for the work lol it would be stupid expensive lol :) plus it takes me like 8 months to do these kinds of projects. You can do most of the work yourself though :) the 19 is extremely similar to the 17 just a little bigger lol
@@BornAgainBoating You have a talent being able to wire that and make it look clean, sadly I do not. Great work and great content. Thanks for inspiring me to work on my boat.

New wire marine did a beautiful new dash for my boat. I’m be installing it this winter after the season.

Love the wood on both sides trick! Plexiglass drill bits work better too :) lol too many tools to buy lol
Thanks so much @BornAgainBoating! Has been a pleasure working with you - looking forward to the next one!
This is why I'm followed you for years. You're turning dust into gold! Great video!
Thank you!
Long time subscriber first time commenting, I cannot stop watching your channel. The 1720 project is my favorite to date, keep up the great work!
Thank you!
It seems like everything you do is directly useful to the work I’m doing on my boat. And it’s been going on for years!
Lol Too funny!
Absolutely phenomenal job. Loved how you approached each task. Those panels are awesome.
dude! you killed this one ! , you make it look so easy! ... I will like this would take me double the time that it would you! thanks for the content

Awesome.!!!! Wish we had in Greece so many options for our consols and gauges.!! Perfect job.!!
Bro you killed it with this one. Looks amazing! And I learned a lot from this one too. Thanks for using your knowledge to help others like me. 🙌👍

Great ideas for making your 2004 look sharp. Watched from beginning to end this morning.
Thank you, yeah it came out great! Wait until you see what we built for the battery switches :) it's phenomenal!
Very nice job looks great. I trimmed that gasket. It would drive me crazy looking at it every day.
I was thinking the same thing, eventually I would have to trim that gasket!
Lol I agree lol I'll probably sharpie it black first lol :) we're all lazy in one way or another lol
Those panels are brilliant! Really nicely made
Yeah, they do a really great job :)
Awesome panel, I need to reinforce my steering, so why not just add a new panel!
Beautiful job! Recommend using a step drill bit on your windshield next time.
Thank you! Funny enough, I've been needing to buy a stepped drill bit for about a year now and still haven't :/ lol SMH
Amazing transformation. Wonderful work!
My first comment I would thank you for all videos gave,me the confidence to tear down my 1996 alumacraft dominated made her look brand new
Great job! Glad to hear it! :)
Something strangely satisfying about making old stuff new/refreshed and cool again…
Sure is!
Beautiful piece of work! 😍
Thank you!
Makes me want to buy my old 1720 back just to do this. :) fantastic work! Now I just have to draw up the panel layout on the 2300.
Thank you! 23 is a great boat!
You can probably use a black permanent marker and color the gasket under the controls. I have had to do the same. well done and thanks for sharing.
This will probably be what happens lol thank you for reminding me of the wonder usefulness of Sharpie :)
That dash panel is fire!! 🔥
@ the 5:82 mark…. You should offer your layout planning skills to all the manufacturers. I have a feeling they just slap it together like “here ya go”
Or sometimes it's almost like they think how unusable can we make this? Let's put this over here lol
my god those dash panels are amazing, I wish someone here in New Zealand produced that type of product
Yeah they look great!
love your vids! great work as always! i wonder where the drainage from cupholder continued after merged?

great work. Where and how did you order the seadek piece? what was the process since it’s a custom piece? And what thickness is that.

We work with them on different projects but they don't pay me money :/
Someone update me, do you no longer live in the keys ?
We go back and forth between the East Coast mid state to the keys now :) working on getting a building to do more projects, quicker :)
4x8 starboard for 77 bucks at HD?? That would be solid.
Lol yeah, no that was the 2x4 sheet :) 4x8 is like $299 I think
