What has made me realize how connected English speakers and Russians are/ why we should be friendly: is how similar the pronunciation of words are in Russian, to their English counterparts. And since Russian is the older language...
Hold my beer: I've noticed that Russian and Spanish have also a lot in common in grammar, even a lot of words can be translated directly from Cyrillic alphabet to this one. Russian is a cool language!
2:02 I think "кое-что" (something special) would fit much better in this explanation. This is the exact word for keeping the intrigue in such situation. "Что-то купила" would mean that she herself is not exactly sure what she actually bought for the kids

However, it can be paired with other words in a similar fashion to 'то'; хоть что means 'whatever' ( *not* in the flippant "whatever, talk to the hand" sort of way), хоть когда means 'whenever', хоть где means 'wherever'... As a native speaker of Russian (I'm learning English) I can supplement the author's text. It's also worth knowing that the particle "-то" can be used with almost any words. 1. "А он-то придет?". 2. "А обед-то скоро?". 3. "Тебе спать-то не надоело?" 4. "А быстрый-то где?". In all these cases, the particle "-то" does not translate into English. But it means uncertainty or distrust. 1. The man is not sure if the other person is coming. He asks, but the question already contains the answer - that he probably won't come. 2. The person asks if lunch is coming soon, but suspects that there may not be lunch at all. 3. A person asks another person if he is tired of sleeping - that is, he wants to wake him up. But he is not sure if this is the right thing to do, maybe sleep is really worth it. 4. A person asks, where is the fast object? Meaning that he doesn't think there are any fast ones at all.
Or for example Это что-то! 🤩 it is implied as "это что-то крутое!" Кто-то When we don 't know who it is , who exactly Где-то you don't know where exactly Почему-то you don't know a specific reason Когда-то in the past but you don't remember when it happened

Same with Что, but not with Когда: кое-когда it's just didn't exist, когда-либо - somewhere in time, but you can't say something like "я когда-либо это слышал" instead of "я когда-то это слышал" but you can say It "ты когда-либо слышал это?". I think the video is missing a little something - in my understanding, то by itself means "then". If X then Y ... если X то Y. Is that right? It seems that this is the original word meaning, among probably some other meanings, but it's not clear why adding this to "where" = "somewhere". Why то specifically? Historically, where does it come from?
I don't think it is even correct to say 'то by itself' because 'то' and '-то' are completely different entities. Plus, 'то' also means 'that' in neutral form. Like 'that window' - "то окно".

I am not an expert in linguistics, but I have seen videos on TH-cam (in Russian), there were articles and other elements in our language that disappeared or changed over time. Apparently, the particle "-то" comes from the rules of the past.

Dear Be Fluent in Russian. What is the difference between the То- Нибудь и Либо? I understood that Что-кое implies that i know what something is, but i don't want to tell. (like a surprise)
"Что-кое" doesn't exist, it's only "Кое-что" These particles are always in the end of the word. There is no actual difference between -то, нибудь, либо. All of theese means something, someone, somewhere, etc.(кто-то, что-то, когда-то). But we don't use -либо really often. Also, there is some situations, when we don't use -либо instead of -то, нибудь. You can say "Я хочу что-нибудь поесть" (i want something to eat), but it will be kinda weird, if you say "Я хочу что-либо поесть", for me, it sounds like you're a robot. I reccomend to use -то and нибудь. The difference, that i can find between -то and -нибудь is that we use -то, when we talk about the past or something, that already happend: "Я что-то нашел" - "i found something", and we use -нибудь, when we talk about the future or something is going to happen or when we ask someone to do something: "Нам надо что-нибудь найти" - "we need to find something" Here's something examples Кто-то пришел - somebody came Я надеюсь, что кто-нибудь придет - i hope that somebody will come Позови кого-нибудь - call somebody It's not a strong rule (to be honest, i just came up with it), but it's the only way i can systemize it. If you are feeling confused and like you will never achieve fluency... Just remember, Fedor learned ENGLISH fluently, and that is as confusing as Russian!
@@NotSprag что-нибудь is more natural. Perhaps, что-то sounds a bit more like reference to something more specific. While что-нибудь is less certain and therefore it's more casual and frequently used in colloquial speech. But the difference is really minor.

Two things I struggle a lot are the usage of ь and ы and why there are words which end with an "o" but are pronounced as "a" (such as, in this case, что-то or спасибо)
"o" can be pronounced as both "oh" or "ah". Every word in Russian has 1 vowel that is stressed. If "o" is the stressed vowel, you pronounce it as "oh", otherwise you pronounce it as "ah".
ь has no sound. In a word, it denotes a softening of the previous letter. For example: зять, взять, рукоять (a son-in-law, to take, a handle). When pronouncing, the letter "т" is softened because of the ь sign. You'll say zyat' not zyat (зять), you'll say vzyat' not vzyat (взять), rukoyat' not rukoyat (рукоять).
'Тебя' is the form of 'ты' - 'thee' and the 'Вас' (with capital 'В') is the form of 'Вы' - respectful form of 'you'. But in russian the situation is different: 'ты' is not rude or something, but familiar. For example, referring to God one will use 'ты' instead of 'Вы'.
Български език максимально по орфографии и правописанию схож с русским. Только в нём нет Э, Ы и Ё. А в остальном никаких незнакомых для русского слуха букв нет - наиболее знакомо (в отличии даже от украинского и тем более сербского), братушки славяне же.)))

Not true in real language usage. Misleading for fresh learners. Even 'something' in English is used with no need to say 'something

I did some research and yes - it does exist. In dictionaries. But still - it's crocodile-word. For me at least.

What's difference between тебя аnd Вас
'Тебя' is the form of 'ты' - 'thee' and the 'Вас' (with capital 'В') is the form of 'Вы' - respectful form of 'you'. But in russian the situation is different: 'ты' is not rude or something, but familiar. For example, referring to God one will use 'ты' instead of 'Вы'.

Вы- is respectful you OR you all (plural)

Български език максимально по орфографии и правописанию схож с русским. Только в нём нет Э, Ы и Ё. А в остальном никаких незнакомых для русского слуха букв нет - наиболее знакомо (в отличии даже от украинского и тем более сербского), братушки славяне же.)))
Хіба вам не цікаво звідки російська є схожою на болгарську? Адже Болгарія досить далеко від росії. Тобто усі ті схожості, вони є саме болгарськими.
