    I really like the Eibos Cyclopes two spool (or one bigger spool) dryer and keep it between two of the printers I use with TPU a lot. The lack of rotating was something that caused color changes in one spool so I made sure to do shorter drying times or spin the spools around like you mentioned you've done. This looks like a great improvement with the rotisserie option (totally should have been the name). The only other thing I dislike about it is still present in the new model and that's if you're printing from both sides, or even one side and what to change the other spool. Getting the hat off while filament is pathed through one of the apertures involves a balancing act holding the lid up, playing out excess filament for the spool still in use so you can remove the second spool. Then you need to get the other spool in and thread the filament through the hole you want so you can put the top back down and keep printing. I don’t think I’ve successfully pulled off the swap without knocking over the other spool, making the process quite frustrating. I was hoping for a front panel of the “hat” that was hinged so one spool could be swapped without disturbing the currently printing spool. Other than that one issue, it's a great dryer and one I go to regularly.
    Great video, love the visual of the two grams of water loss!

    The new S2's have fans. I've been using one for a while now and they work acceptably. Certainly not as fancy as this one. Most of them are sort of accurate but not precision devices. They all mostly work.

    Awesome review! I have the Sunlu S1 and for me, it's worked great. I think one of the things I could see for this dryer is using 2 printers and having this sit in the middle and have one spool out the front and the other out the back. Great job Bryan!

    Polyphemus arrived last week, I did some testing comparing to my Cyclopes dryer.
    First impression: It's silent! The cyclopes fan is somewhat noisy, I don't her the Polyphemus in my office. If it is completely silent i can hear it but the rotation motor makes more - faint - noises then the fan. Well done, Eibos.
    The Cyclopes heated the table under the dryer, at last I put a metal socket under the dryer.... that's gone with the Polyphemus.
    Temperature: The Cyclopes promised 70°C but the one i have here reached aboout 60°C max. Temperature distribution was bad, on the bottom beneath the spools 50°C but above the spools sometimes less then 40°C.
    The Polyphemus has much lower differences. Display 50°C, chamber between 45°C above spools and 48°C beneath spools. Nearly perfect. Couldn't test max temperature as I lack testing filament spools for that.
    So all together well made and worth the money.
    I've only one point to complain: The motor driving the spools has a lifetime of 1500 hours. Really, Eibos? The default for PLA is set to 4 hours, that's somewhat .. optimistic even for PLA. Other filaments take up much more time to dry, 10 to 12 hours. with 10 hours we have 150 drying processes until the motors livespan ends.

    I use the Eibos Cyclops and the Sovol dryer. The Eibos doesn't have the rotation and there are reports of damaging the filament on a full spool. I use it with a printed part that creates more distance between the heating element and the spool. The Sovol is handy as a drybox for printing, but it isn't powerful. Drying PETG takes a lot of time, while 65 degrees Celsius is required, while only 50 degrees is available

  • @beauregardslim1914
    @beauregardslim1914 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My problem with most of these dryers is that they use a couple spindles at the bottom and the spool rests on them. Printing while drying, even plastic spools can run pretty rough, and this can affect print quality. Some cardboard spools don't work at all. A dryer that holds spools at the center would be a much better design.

      I'm not 100% sure, because if it is, it's on the screen, and behind the clear window on the sticker. I can't tell without taking the unit apart and getting to the screen from the inside.

  • @Thomas-fg1ds
    @Thomas-fg1ds 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just ordered it.
    The Polyphemus avoids the problem of the Cyclopes. The Cylopes works quite well - when printing. When drying two problems may occur: The temperature at the bottom is good for drying - then it is too low at the top and ilament will not dry. I've measured differences between top and bottom inside of 15°C and more.
    Or temperature at the top is OK, then the filament melts at the bottom.
    Rotation is a nice way to avoid that.

    Nice video. My question is where oes the water / moisture go? A typical dehumidifier has a catch can. Is it just the fact that the two cubic centimeters of water simply evaporate? Thanks

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi. Yeah, a dehumidifier works by chilling air to condense moisture out of it, so it needs the reservoir to hold that water. Then you have to empty it all the time. A dehydrator works more like blow drying your hair. It heats the air, and the warm air can hold a lot more moisture than cold air. So yes, basically, that 2cc of water evaporated.

    I do like this design, but you may want to check your original Eibos drier as I’ve found they made a mistake on the front dial with the temps. It’s supposed to show PLA, PETG then ABS & TPU, but on the early models they made a mistake on the label and switched TPU & PETG but didn’t tell anyone about the mistake.

  • @klave8511
    @klave8511 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for introducing this product, I think it has potential but I don’t think it is a good design. Why not just put their STL online at one of the many 3d models sites? Good to see they include a spare motor, I didn’t hear you mention a fan, they say it has a “silent fan”. Maybe heating one side is a good way to dry out that section, then move on to the next. Notice that if the motor turns the spool a but then stops, say 20% duty cycle, it will last 5 times longer. They missed one significant aspect, thermal insulation. The heat losses are enormous in their design so you need much more energy to reach higher temperatures and so more local heating of the spool and the parts in that area. For you own design, I use a cheap timer to set the on time, of course you have to realize that it repeats every day (I used a Christmas lights timer, $3).
    This is literally a system that heats the filament at the bottom the turns it a bit. Without thermal insulation the top will be cooler than the bottom. With air circulation and good insulation the spool turning is unnecessary.

    Excellent review as usual. But not quite enough puns this time. I'm really wary of any Eibos dryer, since my 13-month old Easydry, purchased after I saw your review of it, stopped drying this week. The fan runs, but no heat. It was used only once or twice a month in those 13 months, so I can't endorse any Eibos product now based only on initial quality and performance.
