I did it to Skeletool. You get a knife + bit driver. That’s all I really need. Really like the look of that half Signal though. I might do this too.
I should have been more specific..you can do it with other tools but they don't assemble and disassemble so easily.
I immediately had the same idea after seeing this. After I thought a little more though the skeletool is so small and light already that I don't think it's worth losing the pliers for.

the skeletool pliers are weak. I actually broke two of those using them normally

The pliers are the best part of a Leatherman, besides that, that's neat & no you can do it to a sidekick too
I should have been more specific. It's the only one that requires a single T10, and goes together as fast as it comes apart. Every other Leatherman I've done this with takes more work.
Makes the screwdriver better than with the full tool I love it
Did this with my Gerber Suspension.. can't have a blade at work. So I made it a key organizer with some tools.. love it.

I love this concept. I'm currently making a custom Leatherman Wave+ knife with a locking Gerber slim drive bit driver.
Did this with my leatherman Wave +. Amazing! Such a slim thing with a big blade that locks. Just wonderful 👍
(With the Signal it looks better because it is thinner overall)
I think it's absolutely ingenious!! Mega for those who only want to own one or s few multitools. But also for the fun of doing something different 👍
It’s a cool hidden feature but when I first saw it done, it doesn’t make me want to go out and buy the multitool just to do this. But fun for someone who has a spare signal laying around
Just get a Leatherman free T4 and you get everything this mod has plus scissors, tweezers, deburring tool, file, carving knife, a small chisel, cap lifter. Just missing the sharpener and can opener. I usually carry both the signal and the free, on workdays I add my raptor to the mix to go with the first aid kit I keep on my forklift.

I picked up the one handed NexTool (on your suggestions) which I really like since it has both the fixed blade and scissors with the other couple accessories on the back. I find myself rarely needing pliers so it works for me. I like these one arm multitools!

I split a Leatherman Micra so all the tools are on one side. I lost the scissors, but halved the size of the smallest multitool. Truly is EDC for being so compact.

I think the question you missed here is: why would you take apart the leatherman and essentially waste the other half?

i love it, i got a k2 because i wanted that, nice pocket knife with few basic tools but then when you want to go camping or something can add the rest
I did this with my signal. What’s more, the space vacated by one half of the pliers is perfect for adding a couple (possible 3) keys.

Honestly I think there was some backlash because the point of buying a big multi tool is have the pliers. If you didn’t need the pliers daily, I would think people would buy another option that’s cheaper, lighter and more suitable for their needs.
Funny you mention that..I buy tons of those..none seem to fully satisfy me unless I mod them.
I just carry the whole signal and a free. On workdays I add my raptor to go along with the first aid kit I keep on my forklift and I'm all set.
Now that is an edc!
Plus you can customize which blades or tools you want on it.

I've been trying to collect a bunch of pieces from these and make my own but I'm having an issue w/ part compatibility and I don't have a 3D printer and a stack of washers or a different bolt looks bad.... I like this idea but I wish the company would give you the option to buy replacement parts so I can just buy this half and not have to buy the other parts I won't use.
This is brilliant. You should pitch this to Leatherman. Use your following, do a survey and show them the data. They could retail this product for 69-85 bucks and their manufacturer cost cant be more than 15 bucks.

Technically most tools. But none are as easy to do and unfortunately as the signal.
I did that with my Charge TTI it’s just easier to carry everyday (and I don’t really use the piers everyday)

I miss my signal carried it everyday for about a year till it got stolen 😢

I love the idea and it makes a lot of sense. But there is just one problem… tip down carry 🤮. I joke, but it’s almost an ocd kinda thing for me at this point. I just can’t do it.

I know why because they make the ultimate (Swiss army knife) aka multi tool og pocket knifes. I still use the one every day now Multiforce because of all the reasons you mentioned here but on a budget.
I‘d never take apart my leather man but I get the merit. I‘d really love to know what that button lock folder was that you whipped out.

Ok I kinda gets it but I won’t notice the difference and like to keep the pliers... tho my edc is a wingman - the knife... because Norwegian laws don’t also you to carry a knife around...🙃

You need to figure out how to put a tool in there to use the pivot for the now-removed plier head

I mean, it losses the pliers (Arguably the most important tool for people who carry Leathermen day-to-day) but I can see the appeal of it, although the weight of a leatherman isn't something I've ever been concerned with

I did this in 2009 with a leatherman skeletool lol. Kind of, the jaws got snapped and I kept the broken side which basicly just had a knife and a couple small tools for years. I wonder what happened to it, it got lost along time ago.

What’s the best leather man set to own? I’m looking to upgrade from my father n laws 1970’s leather man bc mainly
I don’t want to destroy it with how much I actually use it day to day compared to how much he used it (already bench the flat head bits [2]) so I’m looking to upgrade so
I can retire his to pass down to one of my boys and then what ever one I carry will go to the other. That all being said I have looked at the website multiple times and can’t seem to figure which is the best one to go with. I know what I like and use one for might differ from other people

It's basically having a screwdriver with a locking blade on it. Idk why people are so incredulous, ok, maybe if you buy one specifically to do this to. But if you have a Signal lying around that you aren't using, this is a great trick.

And you should split a pliers to half too. That way you can use that empty upper space 🤭

It is cool but I'd have to figure out something to occupy that giant unutilized gap in the back where the pliers used to go.
There was so much hate on the last video I found it ridiculous. My favorite one was the guy that said nobody is going to watch the video so why bother making it. People can be pretty dense sometimes, especially when trying to seem smart.
