Thank you so much for donating to your local hospice. I am a hospice nurse and we value all donations as we’re not paid by the NHS and can only exist with people donating as we’re charities. X
Another helpful video, thanks. If people want to scrutinise the figures they can just pause the screen! Just admire your consistency in following a frugal lifestyle. Am trying (and failing!)
Don't give up, just keep going. It's taken me 14 years to get to this point with many slip ups on the way. Writing down everything you spend really helps. When you've got a few month's worth of info to look at, it really hits home where you're over spending and where you can cut back :-)
That's the one thing I'm not good at, I tend to see how much is leftover and then put it in savings. But I'm changing that by putting a percentage of the ad revenue straight into savings/emergency fund!
Yes👍, it works much better that way, treat savings as a bill that needs paying straight away. I swapped to doing it this way too and it's much easier to save.
Agreed I always pay myself first and live on the rest. As Ali says plan fixed outgoings then food and discretionary spending after that. It can be done. I do think it's easier when you live alone. Hugs and smiles 🫂😃
Halfway through January and I've taken action on one front- cancelling subscriptions to no longer used services, and also managed to keep my supermarket shop costs (the main area over which I have control) down quite a bit from the highest theey'd got in the middle of last year. So all good so far. We can do this!
You are seriously so cool that you don’t seem to get freaked out living on such a low income. I gross about $2000 per month, most of which is social security, and my rent is almost half of that. I am managing on the rest but I am trying to restore my emergency fund which I had to use in November. It is a challenge! Love your videos!
Another great video Ali. I look forward to your videos and although I already live frugally I have picked up tips from your channel. I am pleased to see the channel continues to grow.
Thanks Ali, it’s all working so far so I’m chuffed would normally have given up by now! I think Jan is a good month to start as it’s easier to track progress and I’m living on Christmas leftovers! Sorry you’re getting a bit of hassle about numbers etc cos I am finding it super helpful x
I sit through the adverts too. No colon ones for me, thank goodness 😅 I get long Ancestry ones instead. I think it's great that you give so much to charity x
Thanks for this great video, Ali! I have had a budget for 40 years now (went a bit 'wonky' during the Covid years, however), but I learned something NEW this morning!! WOW! That was amazing! Thanks so much! I will be putting that into effect during my three 'no spend' months and onwards into the future. Blessings from Ontario, Canada! 🥰
Thanks Ali, another informative video. I’m still on my low spend January and it’s going really well. It has helped that we’ve had snow, ice and freezing temperatures so I haven’t been tempted to go out but I dread to think what my heating bill will cost me!! I’m still using up my 15p veg so yesterday I made a veg crumble - one portion for tea and two portions for the freezer.
@@brendacolumbus I cook a selection of vegetables (boil or roast and whatever I have available - fresh or frozen or a mixture of both), make a white sauce and stir the cooked veg through. Pop the mixture in an oven proof dish and sprinkle a mixture of bread crumbs and grated cheese on the top. It then goes in an oven (or air fryer) until the bread has toasted and the cheese has melted. Sorry it’s not more specific but I had it once in a restaurant and really enjoyed it so attempted to make my own version and this is the closest I got.

My only income is social security $1,298 when I get that deposited I immediately put a third of that into savings part of that goes to Real Estate taxes. I pay my monthly fixed bills like utilities house and car insurance whatever is left over I divide by how many weeks till my next check ( 4 / 5 paid 3rd Wednesday ) and that is what I have to live on each week if I happen to go over a week I will deduct from the following week. With my mortgage and car paid for that's how I am able to save as much as I do.
As I watched TH-cam videos an advert popped up for the £ week saving challenge. Where you put a £1 in week one, £2 in week two, £3 in week three, £4 in week four.. and so on increasing a £1 for every week until in week 52 you put in £52…
I have had friends who have done this challenge in reverse- so starting by putting £52 in a savings pot. Their reasoning is that Christmas is an expensive time of the year whereas in January they are eating up the Christmas gifts and bargain veg etc. It worked for them! ( nope, I haven't done it either!)
Ali, thank you for all your videos, I have watched quite a few and now subscribed! Happy to watch silly adverts, I think giving donations to charities is just great. I hope the message gets through that you can live really, really well ... and happily on less, whatever 'less' may mean in each person's financial circumstances. I wish there were people like you in schools to teach financial management in the home and others who could talk about investment, saving and pensions! I do pretty much everything you talk about, especially cooking everything and buying carefully. In my school days you had 'home economics' take a pound of minced beef and make a meal for six etc. My mother was Scottish and I saw how she managed the home exceptionally well and lived off her very meager widow's pension and provided for me and my older sister. I do think it is in the Scottish nature for whatever reason! You have a car and a wee house. Didn't see any insurance for those on your 2025 budget, plus cars always need servicing, tyres etc a bit of a money pit? Probably missed that, I find that running a car, even a small modern one costs a fare old sum. Thank you again Ali x

A great video Ali; I am so sad that people are becoming more judgemental about creators. You add content for free and should not have to justify every penny you spend or have your way of life scrutinised by viewers. This is the third example I have heard about just this weekend - people, please be a little respectful!! (p.s. I did email you about sock yarn)
Sorry, not checked my email for a few days, I'll go check. I try not to get annoyed by comments as the way they're written might not be the intended outcome. I think people are genuinely baffled as to how some of us can live on a low income (and be happy!) as they don't realise the years of preparation that goes into it. They may be scared/worried about their current situation so (up to a point) I leave most comments and try to answer genuine questions. I choose to be this open about my finances as I would have loved to have seen someone all those years ago tell me it's doable if you work at it :-)

I bought a 5 year service plan 4 years ago (during Covid so the garage was practically giving it away when I bought my car) so I have 1 more year of 'free' servicing.
I choose to be this open about my finances as I would have loved to have seen someone all those years ago tell me it's doable if you work at it :-)
@@aliliveswellonlesswhat a kind and understanding view point Ali, bless you!
I have youtube premium and have no ads but I think you get some money from premium subscribers anyway. Thank you for great content!
