The awkward face you pull at the price of the T-Roc

  • Look, don't get me wrong, I adore the Volkswagen T-Roc. It's the price I don't love. Or can't afford. I get it, cars are expensive these days, we have to get used to it. But I am not sure I will ever get used to a small compact car costing as much as this T-Roc does, with options. Crikey, am I getting too old for this job or what? My greatest advice here is to steer clear of the T-Roc because if you get into one, you will not get out of it and you will be selling your nearest and dearest to buy it. And I would take this over a Golf GTI, so that should tell you just how good it is.

This why the Chinese Manufacturers are taking over! VW, Merc, BMW, Toyota are slowly losing SA Consumers due to affordablity.

There is no way VW has got away with selling a base model car without a reverse camera for R660k?!

Average South Africans are on a daily basis moving to more affordable options. These vehicles will always have their market, but they are moving more into the "upper class" where they start selling less vehicles so need to up the price to make more profit per vehicle. Good luck to them!

Just to note that you did a review on ignition a year ago on the t roc pre face lift. I understand the pricing concern ,however this car is attracting a golf gti owner as a next car ,that does not want a full size SUV ,and we know what the pricing of the 8 gti is.The 2.0 4 motion just puts it in a class above in my opinion and feels as fast as the 7.5 gti,all wheel drive making up for the power deficit. It’s a really good car.If you willing to get the lower powered version this will then price in the other SUV segments mentioned in the chat.I recently purchased one same as the one you reviewed in red ,and traded in my golf 7.5 gti.

I test drove a T-Roc a couple of years ago, had it on a 48h loan, the ONLY thing I can remember about the time I spent with the car was how painfully slow the wipers operated... Not the interval or anything but the actual wiping motion was really slow. Took it back to the dealership, looked at another vehicle to see if it was just an issue with the one I drove, no the others were the same too. So strange.

The price is ridiculous... better options, like you mentioned bmw x1, CX40, could also get the Sportage with better specs , bigger and more reliable... Could go the China way with Tiggo 8 (If you're brave enough)... It's going to be interesting to see how loyal SA's will continue to be to VW, they could be pricing themselves out of the market

As far as test drives are concerned - see if you can find a dealer willing to have you drive the car for a good long test drive, too really feel how the car behaves. We were at 2 dealers and both of them had strict 5km or 10km routes. No thanks then…

It has a 2.0T engine and 4motion(4x4) and it is an R line. It’s actually not bad compared to Golf Gti and Tiguan 800k. BMWs and Audis with the same specs cost way more than 800k
This is car is actually reasonable because it compares with Q2 and X2

Geez 9.3 litres per 100 km is a lot. I'm already complaining about 8.9 on my CX-5, which is bigger than T-Roc.

  • @ThisIsJoe07

We used to be great VW fans up to about 5 years ago when they started thinking they are a premium brand. Not just price but also in demeanor - No way this car is worth that amount of money - there are so many other cars with better value for the price. But hey - if you want to spend R600k - 700k on this car - go for it. R12k or such per month on finance, hey! Have fun!

  • @doctornkosi11

@@shasha023 If the T-Roc R were to land in SA, it’s unlikely to cost 1 million rand.
It would likely be cheaper than the Tiguan R which starts from a little under 1 million rand.
The T-Roc R is also slightly cheaper than the Golf R (at least in the UK).

      @shasha023 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DaveDVideoMaker after calculating the price difference then the T-roc R would come in at R880 000, that is a lot of money, that type of money gets you a Q3 s-line or X1 m-sport, not a VW filled with plastic

The ride is deffintely not hard and crashy but sporty ...
So no ... liked Your review but Your facts are not correct.

So it all came down to affordability and it not suiting your needs. If it was half the price it would still have been impractical. Great car and the Aussie varient is way better value as an R Line. The rest of the world are getting screwed because smucks pay for extras like a camera. AU mandates that on all cars so no issues for us. Perfect small family car and the wife loves her 2023 R Line.

That crashy ride quality that your hearing is the reason why you can't call a VW a premium car, coming from someone that used to own a golf 7.5 R, also, you must be out of your mind to trade a 7.5 gti for this. I wonder if the facelift still retains that low resolution cockpit display, I remember the one in my golf r was much better, she's right, at that price your in bmw territory and that's a much more premium proposition. Go and drive any bmw produced in the last 5 years. 🙂
