Follow the steps below to program or pair a remote key fob to your Ford F-150:
1. Place the first programmed key in the backup slot in the center console, then press the push button ignition switch.
2. Wait five seconds and then press the push button ignition switch again. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Remove the key fob. Switch the ignition off and remove the first coded key from the ignition.
4. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed key fob in the backup slot. Press the push button ignition switch. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off, insert the second previously coded key into the ignition.
5. Wait five seconds and then press the push button ignition switch again. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Remove the intelligent access key. Switch the ignition off and remove the second previously programmed coded key from the ignition.
7. Place the unprogrammed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the push button ignition switch. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off and removing the previously programmed coded key, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
Programming is now complete. Verify the remote control functions operate and your Ford F150 starts with the new remote key fob.

Thanks, super helpful, didn't work the first time. Then read the description and commands and learned I was not swapping the keys quite fast enough within the 10 second window. Did it a little faster the second time and it worked like a charm.

I have a 2017 Lariat and could not find video anywhere that worked. THIS ONE did! My 2017 had a vertical slot like the 2018. Mmmmm.. Other videos stated to click door key open and closed 3 times while using the brake pedal. That didn't work. This process did! Thanks.

Not working for me. After placing second key in I get a message that says “Factory Key Code 71937”. But after 3rd key no program successful message and fob not programmed,
I have a 2021 F-150 XLT. The FOB programming slot is located in the back cupholder. Made several attempted to program an additional key however the procedure did not work.
I have had been unable to get this to work on my 2021 F-150, but decided to try again. Instead of counting to 5 after I hit the start/stop the first time, I just waited until it stopped chiming. Did that for both old keys. Then, when I put the new fob in, I just pressed the start/stop, did not hold it in (had seen that somewhere) as I had in the past and it worked like a charm. Note, I had the drivers door open (not sure if that matters, but some videos say it does) and I had the key blades out of all the keys.
Not working for 2023 super duty. Any ideas?

Notice the quality of ford with how the first time the chime was high and the second and third time it was low tone.
I imported pre used Ford F 150 from US it arrived with only one key , I bought new key from ebay I don’t know how to program it , because I don’t have the second programed key 😢

I bought a fob for my 2020 f150 on eBay. Tried programing it and everything works like you said but the dashboard said program failure. Seller of key says once it puts that error code in the computer it will not program. Is this true and if so can I clear the computer code to try again? Any ideas? Thanks so much. Great video- I bought a used f250 2022. It had 2 keys from factory. It was delivered with only 1 key. Can I add a key just like this even though I do not have the second factory key in my ownership? I fear this is a $$$ trip to the dealer just for a second key.
No - you need two workin keys
I have always owned Fords and used this or a similar procedure every time. I always buy a 3rd key and program it myself as soon as I buy the vehicle, that way if I lose a key, I still have two and can self-rescue instead of giving the dealer hundreds of dollars to program a new key.

This is a good video, but you have to swap the next key into the slot within 10 seconds and power up for 5 seconds then down or it won't work.
Correct! if you wait for the vehicle to stop dinging that gives you the 5 seconds and then yes you need to switch the fobs fairly quickly

We lost our 2nd fob right after camping in October. My husband had to borrow mine and my time limit was May, the next camping trip. We bought a new fob but the dealership didn't have time to program before the trip. Programming cost $65. That WAS scheduled for later this week. I will be canceling because you taught me how to program it myself! Not that we really need 3 sets. I am not sure I trust the key fob that was lost because it was on top of our RV for 6 months in extreme cold, snow, ice storm, rain. It as amazing the fob didn't slide off with our. First trip. It lodged itself in the rain gutter.

Excellent. Worked a charm for a 2021 F150. Yes, don’t waster any time after the chimes stop to turn off and move to the next key. Also I didn’t get any dashboard indication that it was programmed but the vehicle did double unlock when the new, unknown key was programmed. Seems to work correctly.

These will not work on a 2009 - you will need the original style of key that came with your vehicle
So we have 2 2019 trucks. Id like to program the key from one truck to the other and have the same key control both trucks. Can i do this?
I have never done that so I cannot say for certain but I think yes that should work. This style of Ford smart key does not lock to one specific vehicle once programmed, as many other newer smart keys do.

You need two working - otherwise you will need a locksmith or dealership to program the fob

Does this still work if you only have one key and your wanting to add a completely new one to have as a back up . My truck only came with one fob when I got it .

I have 2 programmed keys that came with my new truck. My battery went dead I recharged and now my remotes don’t work would this be same process?
A dead vehicle battery should not cause the keys to loose programing so there may one other issues
Does this work with the ranger 2024? My dealer gave me key fobs without remote start. Can i get the new key fob with the remote start to be able to remote start my car?? Or do i need some sort of configuration ?
The key fobs need to match your vehicles options - the remote start fob will only work if your vehicle is set-up for remote start

Absurd you need two working FOBs to program another. You only get two total when you buy the vehicle! My 2nd became unprogrammed somehow after changing the battery.
That helps keep a valet from making his own key fob when he has yours to park your car.

Absurd, you want your car stolen, lol. In my opinion, there shouldn't be board programming at all. Only here because a customer lost a $50 bet. Now he's gotta pay me $500 to get a key made and $50 for losing the bet. I told him if he could program himself the keys free. Apparently, he was given bad information from Facebook people.
@@JDIT522yea it does every chevy or ford vehicle can have a 3rd key made if you have 2 working keys. Don't spread false information.
This video worked perfect for me programming a 3rd key fob for my new F150. Get an extra key done right away when you get a new vehicle, so if you later lose or ruin one, you will still have the 2 you need to program a new 3rd, without having to pay anyone $500. My extra fob cost $80 and no hassle.

Hopefully you can help me with this. I have a 2020 Ford F150 Lariat. The key fob I currently have only has 3 buttons Lock, unlock and panic. I purchased a key fob with remote start and open tailgate. I followed the process and it said said successfully programmed however it does not work for any function. Any advice or do you think it just wont-work?
It sounds like you vehicle does not have those options so no they won't work on the fob.
I’ve got 3 programmed and need a 4th programmed. Any idea if I need all 3 currently programmed to program the 4th or can I drop the first, second (or third), then do the 4th WITHOUT unprogramming the one I didn’t use?
I believe you would only need two of the programmed to add the 4th
@@PYR-Auto I think you’re right but I didn’t know if it would kill the 3rd if it wasn’t there. I had an old 07 gmc that I had to have all fobs present to program or it would deactivate the ones that weren’t present once in programming mode it had to go through 1, then 2, then 3, etc. My wife’s remote start (aftermarket audiovox) is the same. To program a 4th or 5th or whatever you have to have all of them there or whichever wasn’t there falls off.
@@PYR-Auto I’ll report back. I haven’t gotten around to it but I was gonna try it. I got ahold of a 4th fob and before programming it to the other car I was gonna try this on the truck just for fun and see if it kills my spare (I keep one in a ball of foil in the truck so I’d never need a key if I didn’t have it on me, just a code to get in).
@@Phatphatyo that's a good idea with the foil. Does it work in keeping the truck from seeing the extra hidden fob?
@@damon20r it does. One layer of foil balled up sees the key at times (rarely but I’ve had it happen), but a second layer doesn’t ever let the signal out. I’ve had it in foil for 6 years now and it’s always worked good. The other option is take the battery out and when you need to use the spare, put it in the emergency slot in the console like the battery happened to die on you.
So it's saying remote program successfully but the remote isn't working. Any ideas?
Have you tried replacing the battery in the new remote? You can take a battery out of one of the original remotes to test

I believe on 4 is the maximum that can be programmed at one time on these smart keys
This is follow up, I was able to reset MyKey to say zero.
Why is only starting with new key fob in the backup key hole and none of the buttons working? It told me key programmed.
I am running into the same issue, I am trying to program a key that has remote start button. The factory keys do not, maybe that is part of the issue?

I'm having the same issue. I have the 2 factory key fobs and the same number button 3rd key fob but after programming 3rd key, it only starts the truck in the backup key hole. Non of the 3rd key buttons will work or unlock the truck when I pull on the handle. Won't start the truck unless the 3rd key is in the backup key hole.

In your video you partially obscured the display but after turning on the ignition with the 2nd key it should show the keypad code to confirm you are in programming mode. I do see the gray box confirming this. If the keypad code is not shown after the 2nd key, I don't think a new key will program.
Yes - the key can be used. It showed the code momentarily before I turned the ignition off

Absolute dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Who the hell wants to make a third fob. I’ll bet most people have lost or bought a used vehicle missing a fob and need to make a backup. Just Fords way of makin a little extra $$
It’s 2 key fobs because most people leave them in the truck running and they won’t people who steal the trucks to be able to make another key……
If Ford is going to make it so hard to program a key (if you only have one), then maybe don't charge you hundreds of dollars to get a new one with programming.

I don't know if you're trolling but I'll bite regardless. You need 2 working keys to program a 3rd key. You can program a 4th key with the same 2 working keys and so on.

If you have to have 4 pairs of keys you don’t need to own a car if you’re losing them that much.
