  • End to end instructions on programming an extra intelligent access key for the Ford Expedition. Requires two programmed Intelligent Access keys as well as a new unprogrammed key.
    Here is a good example of written instructions (scroll past the first set of instructions to the instructions for the Intelligent Access Key):

    I’m actually an ex Ford engineer, retired. I tried to read the manual about 10 times, tried to follow the directions and could not get it to work. I watched your video, which doesn’t seem to agree with the directions but it’s so easy to do that it’s ridiculous. Worked perfectly, thanks. Now I’ll go back and read the instructions a few more times and see why they’re so confusing. Thanks again.

      Not sure where the disconnect occurred but so glad you found this video useful. My video essentially follows my manual exactly and also the written instructions I have linked in the description. One thing that comes to mind is that my owners manual IS NOT SPECIFIC to my vehicle and includes instructions for, I believe, two other keys/controllers. Perhaps you were trying the instructions for a controller that does not match yours.

      @@duncanmacdonald3164 I am guessing that the F150 manual may not be stated in the exact same words.

    I bought a 2019 Explorer with one I.A.K. so I had to pay a locksmith $80 to program one I paid $60 for used. Works fine but I decided to buy one more and try programming myself. I found lots of instructions none of which worked. I stumbled on your video today and (with a few minor changes) was able to program it. On an Explorer the program pocket is inside the center console front and the remote's buttons have to point toward the rear of the vehicle. Other than that your instructions were clear and they work fine. Thanks for saving me $80!

      Glad it worked out for you and thanks for sharing the differences with the Explorer.

    This worked for my 2019 Escape. The only difference is the programing spot is the front most try under the USB port.

    Thanks a lot, worked great for my 2019 Explorer! Other ‘how to’ videos for the Fords, didn’t emphasize the “5 second timing” for programing. I think that was the key!(no pun intended)

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad it worked out. Yes, I also found the timing aspect to be more crucial than I thought it would be.

    This works on 2020 F150. I had to hold the button in to get the blank to program but it worked like a charm. Got my blank off ebay for 38 bucks.

    This programming process works for 2019 Ford Explorers as well. The only difference is the location of the backup slot, which is located in the front center console armrest. The key should be placed into the slot with the key ring facing up and the buttons facing the rear of the vehicle. They simply need to follow your instructions and it will work perfectly.

    There appears to be two versions of the replacement key. One that you can program with two existing keys, and one you cannot, which you must take it to a locksmith that has the special programming tools. I found a website that sells both versions of the replacement keys. I purchased both kinds. One can only be programmed by a locksmith and the other "programmable" version can be programmed following these steps, with a slight modification for the placement of the key in a 2019 Ford Explorer.

    Thats great but I bought an F250 with a Smart Key (Intelligent Access Key) and it only came with one key cause the original owner lost one. The dealership I purchased the truck from promised me to key another key made but they kept dragging their feet and saying it would take months. I got frustrated and just quit asking... The better question is how to program if you only have one key?!?!

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the fear of losing a key is why I went this extra mile to program a third key. Ford has deemed “two keys to program a third” to be magical for at least the last 23 years since I bought my 1998 Expedition. If your sales person promised you a second key them make them back that promise. Plead your case to the general manager. Maybe if you show up with an unprogrammed key you bought on the Internet and just ask them to program it you will be more successful, assuming you bought from a dealership. If not, you are really stuck with getting the company to back their promises. Note to self: make sure all promised obligations are met BEFORE signing the final paperwork and driving off the lot.
      BTW, the F250 is a nice truck. Congratulations on your purchase.

    Need a 3rd key to create my key for valet and didnt want to use one of the admin keys. Failed the first time programing but worked the second perfectly. Now when I go where I'm going to use valet I bring that key in a faraday bag as to not interfere with my admin key.

    You can register up to 4, do you know how to delete two?

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but I never even thought about deleting so I have not researched that at all. A Ford dealer should be able to give you some direction.

    • @Tuttomenui
      @Tuttomenui ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this procedure deletes a key that isn't present. I recall seeing that in someone's how to video, I'll have to find and revisit that video because I need to delete one now that I got myself a second one. Other videos I've seen from people didn't cover it. I was able to program my second key using a universal obd2 programmer that was $70, it gets locked to the car it is used on but I figure that cost was close to what a locksmith would have been. The app on my phone for the obd2 programmer reported that the car had a total of 3 keys after I added one. So the Used car dealer never got the second key from whoever they got the car from before selling it to me. My vehicle is a 2017 edge titanium.

    I just bought a 2018 F150 Latiat. I only have 1 key fab. Can I do this with an extra key fab I found off another truck?? (F150)...?

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlikely. You are probably in for a negotiation with a dealership for the second key. Hopefully they will program one you already purchased but that is at their discretion. If they do, then you can use it and the one you already have to program a third. Having two keys seems to be something magical with Ford for programming keys.

    I lost 1 of my original fob's. I have only 1 now. How do I program a new fob only have 1 already programmed?

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but I don’t know. You may have to rely on a dealer or check with an automotive locksmith. This is the situation I wanted to avoid by programming a third controller. Good luck.

    • @Tuttomenui
      @Tuttomenui ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a second key for my car using a $70 obd2 universal programmer ( once used the obd2 programmer got locked to only being usable with my car). This is a year out so you might have resolved your situation already. $70 is probably about how much a locksmith would charge.

      I bought mine here: www.carandtruckremotes.com/2019-ford-expedition-smart-remote-engine-start-key.html
      In December, 2019 I paid $56.94 including shipping and handling. They have increased significantly on this site. You can probably find a better price by looking around. I would start with this search:

      From everything I read, yes. This video is for 2018, 2019 and now presumably 2020. You recently bought such a new model and only got one Intelligent Access Key? I would pursue the seller for the other key.

    • @ndjohnson22
      @ndjohnson22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Duncan MacDonald thank you for your reply. I bought a used 2019 model with only one key. I am reluctant to buy another key from a third party only to have to our dealership fees to program.

    • @ndjohnson22
      @ndjohnson22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only to have to *pay* dealership fees.

    • @duncanmacdonald3164
      @duncanmacdonald3164  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ndjohnson22 Good luck. The original reason for the video was that I was trying to avoid the dealership costs as well and backing myself up with a third key. I wanted to share my “good” personal experience with buying a third party unprogrammed key for not too much money and programming it myself. I suggest contacting the service Ford service dept you have the best relationship with and finding out just their programming charge vs. buying the key from them. Probably cheaper to buy the keys yourself. That way you can buy two keys and have the dealership program one and the program the third one yourself.
