Yes, you are getting "Sailor Moon" vibes because these skins are based off a popular japanese anime genre which is called "Magic Girl" in which normal teenage girls change into magic girls to fight evil. Sailor Moon is the most prominent version of this in Western Culture. So this is basically League of Legends "Sailor Moon" skins.

@@Cau_No but the thing Star Guardian is based on Sailor Moon. The old voices of Ahri and Lux were a huge hint to that: "in the name of Demacia, I'll punish you" is a reference to "in the name of the Moon, I'll punish you". And Ahri had a pretty similar quote but changing Demacia for the First Star.

I love how you two are mixing LoL and Attack and Titan. The Light and Shadow song has the same musicians and singer who does work for Attack on Titan. You'll start to recognize the voice in AoT music.

Right? I remember seeing this trailer for the first time and thinking "Damn, this REALLY has some YOUSEEBIGGIRL vibes" then looked it up and it was the same singer and composer
@@GerblerM Yes!! Exactly! The grand vocals and the orchestral pieces with those string patterns is very reminiscent of Sawano's style.
I wont say everything, but in the last cinematic, the transformer girl is Neeko, and she is fighting Xayah and Rakan, its very cool and touching, because Neeko only transforms into her allies and she transforms into Xayah still regarding her as her ally even if she is corrupted by Zoe, the teleporting girl.
I think that’s just the game, in the actual lore she could probs transform into most people enemy or not
neeko can transform into anything, i wouldn’t look at game mechanics and tell ppl that’s exactly how they fight in the story
Many champs have pretty huge limitations in the game, such as Syndra, who could basically kill 90% of the champion roster without trying if you look at the lore, but gets shit on by tanks and assassins

So the history goes like this: Ahri had a group with miss fortune (red head gunner), Neeko (The lizard that was running away), Rakkan and Xayah (The pair that was attacking neeko). Xayah got defeated and corrupted so she became a dark star, Rakan was inlove with her so he followed her. The three "runes" Ahri has in her hands are Xayah, Rakan and Neeko's star medals, she thouth thei were dead, but she founds in that third video Neeko is alive.
Ahri's new grup is formed by Ezreal, Soraka (you haven't seen her yet), Miss Fortune and Syndra (the purple one, you haven't seen her neither). Syndra is a tenure star guardian, all her crew was defeated so she joined Ahri.
Jumping back to Lux's crew. They're Jinx (that has deserted, they have a kind of vegeta/goku relationship), Lulu (the yordle from Runaterra Tales that saves the Yordles from the bounty hunter), Poppy (the yordle that appears in one of Viego's cynematic carrying a hammer along with "Vayne"), and Janna (she also lost her crew and joined this one to prevent this from repeating).
Both groups has some rivalry going on as Ahri's is tormeted by her "lost" and she believes Lux and her team are naive and should not fight the void.
I mean, Rakan and Xayah not only got defeated, they actually died while Neeko hid

Also it's not known what happend to Syndras and Jannas teams. Surprisingly Janna has the same star shape as the rest of her team while Syndra has the corrupted shape. Soraka also seems to have a former team as her gemshape is different too. Just Ezreal was "new". Syndra is more of an advisor then a teammember since the first star knows Neeko is still there and not corrupted.
Also theres the story Janna tells them in the Camp targon shortstory (Ghoststories), where a very old SG is mentioned who lost her whole team and went crazy, following the great evil to where it came from. I still think it's Zoe.
They didn't become Dark stars they became Star Nemeses
Dark stars are Eldritch Black hole gods that want to eat the universe
Star nemesis are corrupted Guardians who want to spread Zoe's chaos
Urgot has a star guardian skin ,but he never appeared in the cinematics.
It's worth mentioning that Star guardian Urgot was only made in response for a years long meme from the fanbase, however he isn't canonically a star guardian

5:31 Yordle with the hammer is Poppy. Yordle with the staff is Lulu. Elf-eared woman with the staff is Janna, it's possible she might be seen at some point in Arcane since she does inhabit Zaun, but she's also supposed to be a deity and might not necessarily 'live' there in a sense.

8:45 Part of the process of creating skins for champions is to ensure that their silhouette is still recognizable at a glance, which means that by and large major facets of their appearance are going to remain relatively consistent. For Jinx, that's generally her big guns and her ponytails. She does have one skin where she actually does have short hair but wears a long trailing bandana that acts has her braids to maintain the silhouette. Check out Crime City Jinx to see what I'm talking about.
9:13 Information might be a little outdated since I can't be assed to go do a full count myself, but as of Aug 2021, Ahri has 13 skins, putting her among several others at the top end that also have 13 skins total along with Akali, Annie, Lee Sin and Garen. Lux has 14, tied with Alistair. Miss Fortune and Ezreal have 15, making them the leaders for total skins as of a few months ago. Ahri is ridiculously popular for skins, it's a little bit annoying how much Riot laser focuses on only a handful that produce the most money instead of actually satisfying fans of characters that haven't seen a new skin in years. Poor Viktor.

17:54 Urgot is a meme inclusion. He's not officially part of the Star Guardians, the skin official name is 'Pajama Guardian Cosplay Urgot', with the 'lore' being that he's a Star Guardian superfan that made his own costume. He's not in the cinematics, he was created as a response to the long-running "Star Guardian Urgot where?" meme that's floated for almost as long as the skin line has existed until Riot did it.
20:29 Neeko was the lizard-girl in the last Star Guardian video, she's essentially a chameleon vastaya. She can assume other people's appearances as one of her abilities in game and it's demonstrated in that video. Aside from Xayah and Rakan, the smaller girl with all the portals was Zoe. She's not a yordle, she's just physically a child, but she's also an Aspect. Ostensibly the Aspect of Twilight but her domains are more along chaos and change, she's a lesser deity essentially, and she has a key she stole from Fiddlesticks that unleashed... something 'beautiful and terrible in it's joy'.
21:45 Loser has to close out Season 12 of League of Legends with Diamond rank or better. It more or less just started so no pressure, you only have like 8 months to learn the game, level up enough to be granted access to Ranked and then grind the hell out of the game to reach and stay Diamond until November 16th. Nothing crazy. :^)

Neeko, (the lizard tail girl in the last video) is new to you guys, but if they ever release more stuff on her, I know you two will like her. She's got the best personality of the cast. She really sweet and whimsical.
A personal in game voice line she has is "After battle, everybody is invited to picnic! Even enemies!"
And, she is lesbian, correct if I'm wrong but she was the first confirmed lgbt character in league, right?

Alright, I got curious and did a bunch of research on the Star Guardians and I'm here to give you the quick and skinny:
1st video group, Lux(captain), Jinx, Poppy, Lulu and Janna are the newest and youngest squad of Star Guardians. They aren't super involved bigger picture in these Cinematics yet.
2nd video: Ahri(captain), Miss Fortune(vice captain), Ezreal, Soraka and Syndra, are a second and older team (think like the college students, if the new team are high schoolers). Ahri and Miss Fortune are old teammates from an older team which fractured in the past when Zoe (evil little girl) ambushed them in the unseen past. Ahri forms a new group with newbies Ezreal and Soraka, while Syndra is actually a veteran from an even older team. Ahri caries the magical gem stones of her past 3 fallen team mates, and vows to save them even if destiny says otherwise.
3rd video: In the past, Zoe ambushed Ahri, Miss Fortune, Neeko (lizard girl), Xayah, and Rakan. In the ambush she managed to kill Xayah and Rakan, and Neeko barely escaped and hid. Ahri and Miss Fortune survive and get out. Zoe then revives Xayah and Rakan with her "shadow/chaos" power. Xayah is resentful for being abandoned by her team, Rakan is patiently biding his time trying to think of a way to save himself and Xayah from Zoe's clutches. Xayah eventually finds Neeko hiding and that's when this video starts. Neeko frantically tries to escape the dark prison Zoe has erected around her but is foiled. That is when Ahri arrives to save Neeko, Xayah and Rakan from Zoe's clutches. Again it showcases the broken magical gem stones of her past allies with as she steps up to fulfill her promise to save them.

@@CarlieAndAnge You're very welcome. Funny little twist, Zoe (evil portal girl) is like top 3 most friendly characters in the game. She's super sweet and bubbly. It's interesting how they give some of the characters drastically new personalities in the Skin AUs (Alternate Universes)
Another example of this is Urgot, who is this nasty chem baron from Zaun, but in this universe he's a Star Guardian super fan.

@@Deeplight32 Zoe is the embodiment of mischief, imagination, and change; she's primarily concerned with amusing herself. She's certainly bubbly, but definitely not super sweet in a virtuous sense, she just wants to maximise her enjoyment.

Zoe in the game's lore is one of the most powerful beings of the universe, she is the aspect of Twilight and she is basically "a little girl picked by the gods" (she is not a yordle). In the Star Guardian's lore she is basically the leader of the corrupted ones.

Lux's group is the newest start guardians.
Ahri is one of the previous generation start guardians who had two teams. he second team includes those in a New Horizon, but her first team included with Neeko, Xayah and Rakan. You can see in the New Horizon Video that Ahri holds three broken Star guardian gems, those represent Neeko, Xayah and Rakan who have become lost from her original team. Ahri shows up because she was unwilling to abandon them.
Zoe is said to be something like one of the first start guardians who became corrupted and now she seeks to corrupt others. She does this to Rakan and Xayah and is attempting to do it to Neeko in the Cinematic.
Neeko is sort of like a chameleon and can take on the forms of others. She changes into Xayah during the fight and tricks rakan into attackign the real xayah. Xayah thens tumbles with corruption (purple gunk on ehr arms). Rakan then heals her but you can see as Xayah chases after neeko that he took the corruption into himself, as he holds his arm as Xayah runs away. The power move neeko does when surrounded is her in game ultimate ability.
In game, Xayah attacks by throwing feathers, which you see her do in the last video.
in game, Rahkan dashes to party memebrs to shield and heal them, which he does in the video.
in Game, Zoe (the evil teleport lady) uses portals and long ranged bolt atatcks to do masive damage. She also uses an ability that puts people to sleep (this was the abilty she used to beat neeko when they went into the 2 d animation switch up)
it is 1000% sailor moon thematic :)

A thing there is super hard to see in the trialers, but the players learned on the way is that every starguardian has a familiar, there often act as their weapon, they are super cute, few examples is Lux have Mimi, which will become er staff in battle, Ahri have kiko, Jinx got Shiro and Kuro, but they all have, really good universe to go deep into ^^

About the star guardian Urgot, it's not a thing, but the community begged forever to make it happen since he seemed the most out of place character for that role, so what Riot instead did, was releasing a spinoff skinline on april fools day called Pyjama Guardians, which lucky for urgot he got to be a part of :)

Man... the memories. The last of the Star Guardians animation trailer was the turning point for me where I decided that my life would never be complete if Riot Games never released an animated serie. Which hopefully they did. I remember commenting on the official Riot Games Facebook post of that trailer " Riot please give us an animated serie, like what are you waiting for !!!??? " or something like that ! That was almost 3 years ago, what a throw back. The love is still intact as 1st day. The music, the animation style, everything is on point (as always) for this magical girl style of a skin line. #assumedsimp

I haven't even watched these cinematics and I watched this just because it was from you even tho I've played league of legends since early 2011. “Said and done”, I’m here again, now for the Star Guardians as I said I would. I was so excited to It, first I thought I readed the notification wrong, then I realized that I was not dreaming, and as always I loved the reaction.
The Star Guardians is my favorite alternative universe and I’m so happy that you two enjoyed It too, and the colorfulness of the cinematics are really astounding, and the characters are amazing as well, I really liked their stories and I wish Riot had already developed more of this universe. Watching you seeing and liking It too, It’s just indescribably amazing. Also, “evil yordle”? that one got me way off-guard lol 🤣 and I can cross Zoe off the list of my favorite characters you’ve already watched. I just loved her visual on that skin.

Everyone seems to forget there is another version of the first video. It's called Endless Starlight. It's the same video but with a different song in Japanese.
Star Guardian is my favorite skinline. Being a huge fan of Sailor Moon I can't help but love this skinline. Also, when they released A New Horizon they made an special event in which you can use the skins without buying them in a special limited edition game mode. I loved that event so much! Really miss Invasion (the game mode). I have Ahri and Soraka Star Guardian skins (with the special frame for Soraka that you could only buy during the event) and Soraka Pajama Guardian skin but I want all of them!
And I almost forgot... it seems these year Star Guardian will have another formation. I'm so excited about it!

In terms of League content, there are so many things to check out from voice lines, skins, animations, spotlights, abilities, music, championship trailers, esports highlights, community content and of course the lore/stories. It's just an infinite well if you keep for once a week. It can become like a fun weekly TV episode!!

Star Guardian Urgot is a community meme made partially real by Riot, he wasn't featured to any of the videos but he did get a skin called " Pajama Guardian Cosplay Urgot", the skin design is similar to Pajama Guardian Ezreal(same universe as Star Guardian but in this set of skins the Star Guardians are in Pajamas having a slumber party), and the splashart of the skin has many references to SG Ezreal like he has his own figurine on the background implying Urgot is a fan or his "role model" is Ezreal.
Ahri Jinx and Lux are definitely the 3 poster girls from League
Best way to recognize different characters in skin lines is to look for their weapons, they are useally very recognizable. Even for the worlds trailers with the pros youll see them using their champs weapons
Just for you know. In the last cinematic "light and shadow" the music in that cinematic was made by the same composer as attack on titan (hiroyuki sawano), totally a masterpiece.

Fun fact: You might have seen Zoe once before! In The Call, she is theorized as one of the two possible people who hit Pantheon while he was fighting Leona! It looked like a giant comet... but probably just Zoe doing her thing as a Celestial Messenger/Aspect of Twilight.
Another Important Thought: star guardians are a separate Universe from the Arcane universe. A lot of skin releases are different versions of our favorite champions in another universe.
Star Guardian Urgot was some great fan service on riot's part(they joined in on the troll of it all). He's not in the videos you've just seen dw.

Urgot isn't in the cinematic BUT it was a running joke for a long time on LoL forums, where you would see fanart of old ugly urgot as star guardian (before his ingame visual 3D rework, that you saw in warrior cinematic coming out of the big tank), and riot actually answered their fans with a true skin for urgot.
the star guardian skin line had a pajama party skin line called pajama guardian, and urgot got a cosplay pajama guardian type of skin to canonize the star guardian urgot x)

Janna : Spirit protectors of Zaun, with the purple hair, she one day cast a giant storm around her and some people to protect them from the toxic air when they got too deep in Zaun (that's also why the enforcers wear masks)
Poppy : you saw her in the ruination video whith vayne, the little yordle with the big hammer ( the big hammer was the property of the first great champion of demacia, who"s a friend of Poppy and who chose the first king of Damacia
Lulu : you saw her in tale of runneterra, it's the little purple yordle with the hat
For the second video you have Soraka with the green hair, who"s a targonian Divinity that went in runnetera to protect people ( what you see is actually not her true form, she took the form of a targonian tribe)
Next to her you got Syndra with the other purple hair , didn't read a lot abouth er exept that she got a lot of ships with zed !
you got the three others so theres fact about them : Miss fortune real name is Sarah, Gangplank, killed her parents when she was young and as an adult she avenged them and she's now the ruler of Bilgwater, Ezreal has a magical gauntlet that he use to cast spell, in exhange the gauntlet take some of his energy so he need to rest between adventures

Last fact, this one about demacia, everyone knows that demacia are pretty racist about mages and magic, the white walls they have are made with the same stone as galio ( the big statue) and they think the walls can protect them from magic WHEN IN FACT , itlike..concentrate magic in the stone, so demacia, is in fact, a big magical bomb that will destroy the land if it explode
So the basic story of the Star Guardian skins is that they are all celestial beings fighting against the darkness and monsters of the universe. But during the day they live as normal students of course. This is magical girl after all.The first video has Lux’s team, which is made of Lux (pink), Jinx (red), Lulu (green), Poppy (Blue), and Janna (purple). The second video is Ahri’s second team. The “runes” she’s holding are from her lost team members. The new team is Ahri, Miss Fortune (guns), Soraka (staff), Syndra (floating orbs), and Ezreal. The third video shows Ahri’s lost team and the main villain. The main girl you see is Neeko, who had somehow escaped being corrupted and is still running. Xayah however had been killed and corrupted. Rakan wasn’t fully corrupted, but he couldn’t exactly leave Xayah since they’re together. That’s why you see him trying to take on some of Xayah’s corruption. The portal girl is the main villain, the origin of the darkness, Zoe, who is corrupting the star guardians and spreading darkness and monsters.
Now you may be wondering about Urgot. He wasn’t in the videos and isn’t an actual star guardian. To go with these skins, a bunch of short stories were written, including one where they have a pajama party, which leads to the pajama guardian skins. Urgot has a pajama guardian skin which was made as a response to a long running community meme. In the lore he’s just a fan boy of the star guardians cosplaying as them. It’s a pretty hilarious skin.
Also in the short stories for star guardian, Lux and Ezreal are a thing. Ezreal is also very interested in Lux in the actual canon, though she doesn’t actually remember meeting him there.
The skins are on the same webpage as the little bios are on that you used in The Call, so you can do the small groups of Character Bios, Moves, and Skins together.

Star Guardian Urgot is a Legaue Meme that after many years actually became a thing.
I’ll give y’all a rundown on all of the Star Guardians you saw. The first cinematic you have:
Lux - The pink one, leader
Janna - The purple one
Poppy - The blue one
Lulu - The green one
Jinx - The red one
In the second cinematic you have:
Ahri - The leader
Ezreal - The boy in blue
Soraka - The cute green one
Miss Fortune - the red one
Syndra - the purple one
And in the final cinematic you see:
Neeko - the one with the tail
Xayah - bird girl
Rakan - bird guy
Zoe - Evil Star Guardian that corrupted the others and tried to corrupt Neeko
Ahri - at the very end.

if you want to see what riot can do with animation you absolutely have to check out the world championship videos both the opening ceremonys ( which use augmented reality so animation over live video footage ) and the music videos which also go into different animation styles
Sailor Moon is their original reference of this skin line. It was originally a Lux solo skin. But then they made it into a skin line with their own alternate universe starting with building Lux's team (Jinx, Janna, Lulu and Poppy).
Then on season 2 is the introduction of the more veteran team, Ahri, Miss Fortune, Ezreal, Soraka and Syndra.
And on Season 3, the introduction of the main villain Zoe, and Ahri's old teammates Rakan, Xayah and Neeko.
They didn't made a whole lore about the last season but just the individual character lore. People just figured out by putting it altogether and pieces it with Ahri and Miss Fortune's.

Neeko (the lizard girl) does not have many appearences in cinematics unfortunally, but she did appear in a chinese new years cinematic Shan hai scrolls. Maybe one day you could do chinese new year cinematics? its like star guardian in the sense its like another multiverse with really cute cinematics and cool side lore. last years featured skins for ezreal, lux, lissandra, teemo, tristana, xin zhao, amumu and diana, i think that was it

NEW STAR GUARDIAN VIDEO JUST DROPPED! We all cryin! Literally. I do recommend to read the short story before watching though (to really make connections throughout the video) but you dont have to obviously! It follows the last SG video (the one with xayah, rakan, neeko and zoe!)
Fun fact: We have a cat too and called it Jinx! Though we thought it was a girl, but ended up being a male in the end. Jinx as a male works incredibly well too!

Lulu was there, but she was in green. Poppy was the Yordel in blue with the hammer. She also was in the Ruination cinematic protecting Damacia with Vayne, the girl with the cross bow and the glasses.

yep, pretty much those skins are a tribute to magical girl animes, it started with sailor moon and turned into madoka magika... the first release of Star Guardian skin line was kinda just that, magical girls fighting the void, however in the second skinline we are told that there are other generations of star guardians, and the previous one was lead by Ahri, but they had to comfromt Xoe, which is the portal girl, she is supposed to be the first star guardian and the most powerful but got corrupted, so Ahri and her team fought her, but lost, her team got also killed, they were Rakan and Xayah, the bird like ones in the last animation, they were resurrected and corrupted by Zoe, so they actually hold a grudge against Ahri.... the tird one was neeko, the shapeshifter, she actually survived by hiding, but was left behind cuz they thought zoe killed her too.... so, Ahri got to form a new team, she and Miss Fortune are the veteran ones looking for revenge against zoe... this year they gonna release a continuation of this skinline
