- 64 year old Volvo still hard at work in the Arctic and now its Winter and time to plow the snow'
The owner of the farm called me to say he had become overwhelmed with the latest snow fall and was stuck. No problem for me and the old Volvo but it is a long drive to get there

I have a pair of “Polar” winterboots, very warm and not to expensive, 795kr at Engelsons.

The snow fall is low for us this year but compared to many who have none!

Some do, but most do not. There is a problem to that, everyone used to make coffee and cake for me in the early years and that is a problem because your day takes 4 times as long and you get fat real fast.

Simon, the Jack of all Trades..village snowplower, wok fixer, carpenter and all in between😃👍👍 We've had some of the same weather as you guys.. from a almost welcome thaw, to a big freeze with temps down to -20° C and 16-17 m/sek(52-55 ft/sek) winds for several days... bitterly cold🥶 As of now, it's -13° C and totally calm, kinda nice🙂 Hope you all are doing well, all the best to Sarah, Charlotte, Kasper and you.. have a great weekend🤗
Thank you, it is all down to this years jet-stream moments which means it will be good for this seasons logging. Not so much snow to dig down the a good cutting point. Provided it is not to cold! We are all good thanks. Take care

Hi Kirby, the Tyre may have look flat because it was in the snow or a camera angle but it is all good. All the Tyre's are new all be it you have to still do the daily checks.

Thanks Paul, I am always ready during winter it is a very dangerous place and as you know you only see a fraction of what I really do it is not always possible to film. The cold is killing my batteries and often the filming makes no sense when the battery dies. Rest is only a few months away, when summer comes we can go fishing.
Hi Simon, I see you have got alot of snow in Lappland too. Here in Drammen, in the southern part of Norway we got more than 50 cm snow last week, and all the buses and trains stood still. Both here in Drammen and Oslo the buses didn't go at all (electric buses). It's tragic, and after the snow we got very cold weather again, minus 20. Tomorrow, monday it will rain, and the roads will turn to ice, so most of the schools are closed and the buses will not go.....they reported. Hi, we always have snow but we have less than normal this year but it is very cold for longer. Is it because you are in the south that public transport was a problem? Here in the north 50cm of snow in one fall can be normal and nothing stops? I know in the north of Norway this much snow is not a problem so maybe I answer my own question. @@arctic-rebel I think the main problems with the buses are because they are electric. When it's very cold, the batteries lose much of their capacity, and they are also harder to charge. And the buses also use the same tyres all year round, it's not summer tyres and not winter tyres - it's something in between. And it is also impossible to use chains on these buses, it's no room over the tyres. These modern "climate-saving" buses are useless in the winter.
Your plowing work gets you out to see around town a little. I like the winter landscape but mine is minimal so far this winter. I can do without extreme cold but snow is very pretty.
I so agree with that, however I would need to move a long way south if I was unable to deal with the extremes.

A quick thought, if I may? Are you the first point of contact in an emergency in that area of your world? I'm hoping you're getting value out of all your endeavours! By the way... any plans for logging this winter, or are you leaving that till the snow has gone, now that you have the tractor and crane?

I am some peoples point of contact in an emergency but again most are very poor and if your here for the money you should leave because most have less than me and are surviving on such small pensions. I am logging this winter I hope just have to finalize some things and hope it is less than the -30 we are back in. I will not be hauling like before for reasons you have already stated but the tree have to come down before the sap rises.

Hi Simon, thanks for another interesting video. I love that front end loader/plough. You can’t beat the old machines. I do however feel a bit guilty sitting with the heating on and a nice hot coffee whilst watching. Stay safe out there.😎🇬🇧

Lots of seat time in the Volvo this winter eh Simon? What a great asset. And she's sure earning her keep. If I were in your place I think I would plumb a small cab radiator off the engine. Does your diesel run that cool or could it at least defrost and take the chill off.? You're a pretty resourceful guy so I'll bet the thought has crossed your mind once or twice. Keep warm Simon. Enjoying the videos from central Ny State where we have little snow and cold temps only for short bursts.
Hi Matthew, it has a small heating under the seat I got is working in the summer, fed by the main engine water with a fan. It takes of the chill and is better than no heater.

You need a fan pointing at the door to get the heat to the window on the door . Also where is your plow ? You need ear protection side effect keeps ears warm too lol
There is a fan pointing at the door with heat! The plow is in the yard no use for this job. I always where ear protection in my ears not over.

Hi Simon! Too much snow & way too cold in your neck of the woods. We've got about 6" so far but there was an arctic blast & with the wind we had below zero F wind chill. Don't know how you stand your cold.

Hi, thank you what is a very valid question. Once you have accumulated 10 or 20 hours of raw footage you then have to decide what you want to show. Once this is cut into 6 hours of footage you then have to decide the order in which to show it. Then you cut out more uninteresting footage and talking. So now you have a rough cut film of 3 hours or so. In the first year of my channel I used to speed it up to much and would condense 2 hours into 20 minuets. These videos are still up and live. It is a learning process of what your viewers want and how you keep them entertained. My children used to complain I talk to much so I cut more of that out. My machinery moves very slowly but I find it interesting so don't want to cut it up to much so now increase the speed by 3 or 4 times. Slow enough to see what it is doing but fast enough not to be to boring. In this process sometimes you can accidentally speed up something interesting I am saying but you don't see it until final-final viewing once uploaded to youtube. You will already have 4-5 hours of filming and maybe the same in editing at this point. Your choice is delete from youtube and re-edit the video for another 2 hours plus up load time or not. Most errors are detected long before this point and so are so bad you have no choice. Each day is different and the demands on my time vary. So I do my best and am not perfect at this yet and work with the most basis of tools, an iphone is all I use to create all these videos both filming and editing. Not through choice I can assure you one day I want imacs with M3 chips, editing software to blow your mind, drones and 360 cameras, gopro's and lighting. It is funds I lack not talent but in the meantime feedback from you is very important to how and what I produce. However; 3 hours video's of really slow machinery working is not the way forward for me or the channel but If I missed something or skipped something you think I should do or show or you want then this is defiantly the place to tell me. There are however 499,000 other views in the last 90 days I need to consider as well.

What sort of farm was it you were snow plowing? And, is there a height lever on the tractor that is used to drop the plowing or bucket to when doing this…..makes everything so even I was interested.
Now as for the door and noise…..as you don’t have ear muffs pretend you’ve got a hundred Reindeer with bells and chains on pulling you 😂😂😂😂 and for the condensation on the door will have to come up with a couple of warming wipers on both sides😂😂😂😂……will have to figure out how to get the engine hooked up. Bit sad the heat from the engine can’t be funnelled into the cabin.

Hi Anne, it is not currently an active farm. The new owner of 2 years has only just retired. It was a Potato and Hay farm. No Height level the Back-loaders did not have one. The red Volvo has one as does 95% of all tractors but not on the front arms normally only on the 3 point. Modern tractors have on the front arm I am sure but I do not. Mostly set the angle and drop it till it stops. I cannot wear ear muffs, they aggravate my ears but I always wear ear inserts. The heat from the engine is funneled into the cab via a small hot water radiator with a fan from the factory. I got it working simmer 2023. Where were you? Thank you so much Anne, you both be safe.

Gee, then you hit spot on every time that arm comes down. Interesting to know though. The good old days when one used their own initiative. I’d have potholes to fill in come snow melt time😂. It is a slow diesel engine exposed to the extreme cold the water only get so hot no matter what size the heater is and it takes an hours or so of running before it gets heat into it. It is just a cold life Dave.
Sure put the hours on the Volvo! What’s the backup plan for replacing it?
A replacement would be determined by my physical inability to be able to operate it rather than any kind of terminal failure. It has taken 8 years just to get to the stage of it paying for itself.

We really have not had much snow this year. Iv been out plowing 3 time . The 2 times before the other nights plowing the Temps came up and then rain so it melted everything. My 15foot snowbanks were about 2 foot high after . Sucks . I guess we have a storm coming Tuesday to wensday so I will see how it gos . After the other night out plowing I built the banks back to about 12 foot . I do have a ? Tho . Ever think of running a rad hose up into the cab and back out to get some heat inside with u . Like in and around the seat then back out .
