I would have thought it was impossible to discuss this topic for a half-hour. I have been proven wrong.

I just went through this debate just last week, August 2020. My new set of flow-formed wheels came with the rubber pull through stems in a bag. I found the auto parts store's chrome metal alternative much more appealing visually.

I always put metal valves in my wheels
In the UK you can get a high quality set of aluminium valves for around £15, which isn't much more than most tyre places here charge to install a set of rubber valves
one thing I've learned is to put some silicone/rubber grease on the seals, stops them from binding when you tighten the lock nut and helps stop them from drying out over time
plus metal ones just look better in my hypergrams 😏

I put metal stems on my 22 ft motorhome with duallys, for aftermarket tpms and decided to not use the tpms and changed to rubber. Inside dually has braided extender with stabilizer. I've had leakage with both rubber and metal. My tires are "E" and use 65 lbs. RV blogs, many say metal is better for motor homes. Can you re-install metal stems once removed?

I've used both but typically the only issue I've found with either is to not have a valve thats too long. This is especially true for an offroad truck with metal valves that could get broken off. This is where high quality brass/rubber TR600HP stems work well or even short metal flush mount.

Have you tried making a pattern with the wheels behind you?

whats the weight difference, i cannot find this info anywhere. all mt wheels have excessive weights very close to the valve.

The weight of metal vs rubber valve stems are super negligible. I wouldn't use that as a factor in your decision.

My BBS wheels came with metal valve stem seal. Unfortunately the newb tire shop didn't know how to install them when I got new tires. 3/4 tires kept leaking air. So incompetent! I ended up going somewhere else and had them put in new rubber ones. Def don't look as good but oh well.

Totally feel you on that. It's not hard to put them in but they do have tendency to leak over time. Good news is, if installed correctly they usually do last a while!

    FFS what's the short answer?

I’ve always used rubber stems they don’t seem any different from metal ones specially since in a race applications you don’t use really use higher pressure than what the dealer recommends.

My vehicle is equipped with TPMS and have not experienced any negatives with the metal valves

Good info, thanks! Leave the little guy at home next time, it was super awkward watching him fidget for 30 minutes straight.

Someone just snipped the metal valve stem off my car. It looks like I can just unscrew the stem that's sticking out, which would be good. Don't have to take off the tire, or replace the whole valve, or the sensor hooked to the valve. Hoping to God, I can just screw on new stem, to the old valve stem base. I've got to work in the morning.

    • @Kikilang60
      @Kikilang60 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@PaulPaid I put in a whole regular value, which works fine. Now I have the tire light on all the time. Yeah, the tire came off.
