I started kickboxing a month ago and a friend lend me his gloves, he really needed this video because those gloves smelt so bad my hands had a funny and crappy smell the entire day after.
I personally like to use a boot dryer to keep my gloves dry. I spray the inside of the gloves with lysol and then pop them on the boot dryer and the bacteria never gets a chance to smell up the gloves because they dry so quickly. You can find boot dryers for around 20-40 bucks and they work wonders on boxing gloves. I’ve had the same pair for a year and a half now when I used to run through gloves ever couple of months. Highly recommend.
Hey, I usually put some Cat litter sand in an old pair of sock and keep it inside my gloves. The litter sand absorb the moisture and eliminate the strong odor. Been doing it for years now, always work!
Shane, you are one person that I look up to the most. I'm only 16 but I'll be doing ammature MMA soon and I'll be giving you and FightTips a huge shotout every shot I get. Without you or your channel, I wouldn't be the person I am today and I want you to know that I appreciate every video you put out.
I also keep Silica packets in my gear bag. They are those little packets of clear pellets that usually come with clothes or packages. Silica is one of the most water absorbent materials so keeping them in your gear bag helps keep everything dry.
I managed to make my now 1 year old gloves last WAY longer by buying anti-moisture packets that I put in everyday after training. After the first set lost it's power, I added another one. I'm currently on 3 per glove. Still does the trick. AND mixed with window breathing post-workout too. My main issue is my gloves breaking apart from heavy bag work. Duct tape is saving that one... for now.
for you guys saying that there is still odor, what i do after airing the gloves out, i get a bar of antibacterial soap, cut it in half and place each half inside the gloves and leave them there until i use the gloves again. try it.
I’m living in a tropical climate and am super sweaty, so trying to dry out the inside of the glove is key - to limit bacteria growth. I’ve been using old newspaper scrunched up inside the glove for a few hours / overnight - and sometimes supplementing this with an hour or two in a shaded spot outside (paper removed) - direct sunlight will crack the leather. Touch wood - this has kept two pairs of gloves stink free after months of regular use. Also I don’t recycle wraps that haven’t been washed. Plus I’ve been soaking all clothing including wraps in a bucket of water with a cup of white vinegar (you can get cheap synthetic vinegar in most supermarkets) for a couple of hours before going in the washing machine. This keeps good quality “technical” fabrics from getting funky.
I clean my gloves, shinguards every night. I spray disinfectant in my gloves and wipe the insides with disinfectant wipes. I use a wash machine for my hand wraps and shin guards. btw I love your channel. you forgot to make a video on how to clean hand wipes.
Your shinguards? I'm actually going to throw them in there now. I don't have those fluffy, soft ones but the ones that are a bit sturdier. Disinfectant? That is what made my gloves crack and break :(
Just this Thursday there was a stench and people were complaining about dirty wraps...this is a brilliant vid For wraps just open them up and hang them to dry on a washing line or in the shed
To clean up my boxing gloves, I know washing machine is a bad idea, which is why I always hand-wash them. Have had them for a month now. They've only gotten tighter and tighter around my hands I LOVE IT! Thank you for the video, though. Super helpful.
I'm using the cheapest tea bags for like 2 years now and it's working great on every gloves I have. No problem with odour and scratches, sweat. I recommend it in daily use ;)
@@saffiyakhan8427 I'm buying the cheapest I can find. In my country it's like 1$ per 100 tea bags. After every training I'm throwing the used away and take another. 3pc per one glove is really fine. After a year of using my not so expensive Venum gloves they still don't smell at all :) Ofcourse I'm opening them up and leaving to dry out, but always with tea bags
I've boxed for almost 12 years now I can say he's spot on. Cleaning your equipment is important. Personally I do not use essential oils, I used them once but Kenny still died after eating a bottle I gave him. Turns out you aren't supposed to eat the bottle itself. Better luck next time.
I occasionally put baking soda in them, shake them up a bit and let them sit over night or for a few days with the open part on top Then I shake the baking soda out and clean with a damp soapy towel I use baby wipes for regular cleaning
I watch all your videos and have been a subscriber for 5 years now I think I grew up watching your videos and ive learned so much from you thanks shane keep it up
I usually fil a cup with water and a bit of bleach, then dip the mouth piece in it for like 5-10 mins, before finally just washing the mouthpiece with tap water. It's worked well for me at least.
I literally wash mine with mouthwash. I don't like the idea of putting bleach and/or soap on something that I'm going to be putting in my mouth, so I just figured why not use mouthwash since it isn't harmful and it kills the germs in the mouth that are transferred onto the mouthguard anyway.
Literally all you gotta do, get some hot water and scrub it with a toothbrush. Then use a little mouthwash so it doesn’t build up odor. I personally wouldn’t bleach something that’s going back in my mouth later, but that’s just me.
Eucalyptus oil is the best for bacteria. Shin guards and gloves inside and out 💪🏻 you can dilute the oil into a spray bottle with some water and spray onto a microfibre cloth and wipe them down. Then spray gloves inside and stuff with a dry microfibre cloth or newspaper to absorb moisture 👍🏻
I started putting mine on a boot dryer after I bought them. Sometimes I spray the insides with Odo-ban, and then place them on the dryer. This has helped keep bad odor at bay. The boot dryer is key.
I'm personally a fan of baby powder in a paper towel and fold it so it doesn't fall out and use your hand to stuff it deep into the glove long fold style. Absorbs moisture and keeps it smelling good. Gold bond foot powder works too
Another big tip is to always use a washed pair of handwraps. Treat them like socks. Get 5-7 pairs of handwraps so you can use a fresh one everyday. Wash them all at once after your final workout day of the week.
I haven't tried it but it popped into my mind from teabags.. to take out access moisture we could wrap a fistfull of rice in gauze and leave em in there to eliminate some of the moisture.
Great video bro. For the inside what I did was buy a pack of cedar shavings, fill 2 old socks with the shavings, tied knots in the end to keep the shavings in place & shove them inside whenever I'm done training til the next time I train. Works like a champ! Like a homemade glove dog deodorizer. 🥊
Take old socks and fill them with cedar chips (hampster section). Staple shut. A big bag is only like $4.00 and will fill many socks. Wash your hands before training and use these afterward - problem eliminated.
When you first buy your gloves use antiperspirant on the inside of them, gel works best. And never carry them home in a bag and make a habit of hanging them up outside or in a doorway.
I find the best way to deal with the inside is buying uv lights that are meant for shoes and put them inside the glove which will 1. help kill bacteria and 2. help dry out the glove. I then use a sanitizer wipe after that and it's worked wonders for me
I am not sure what are dryer sheets as I've not seen them before. But however, I use both glove deodorisers and mini charcoal packs from the Japanese home product shops. They are supposedly helpful in getting rid of odours.
Thanks for this tip. I've been watching some of your videos and I like the way you dispel certain fighting myths, but I particularly like this video because it has solved a long standing problem for me...stinky gloves. Thanks once again, I think I'll use the tea bags since I can't really get dry wipes this side of the world. Cheers!
all u need is a dryer, dry it immediately after you train until it's totally dry, and ur good. dont use hot mode, just warm wind since high temperature would damage your buddies.
Shane read my mind! I was about to comment this on your last vid, then this comes up from the notifications! Also do a How to Clean headgear(I have no idea how to clean mine, all I do is airdry)
Those are all tips to mask the smell. The best way to get rid of a really stinky smell in gloves is: Once cleaning it as described in the video, place it in a plastic bag, seal the bag and pop it in the freezer overnight. The freezer kills the bacteria build up completely, eliminating the odour.
Peace and blessings! Great tips. How do we clean leather headgear? Ive heard "throw it in the washing machine", but I'm not sure about that lol. Any tips or videos? Thanks, Sekou
I give mine a spray of febreeze then put a rice filled sock inside. If it’s been extra sweaty I’ll let them air dry before I put them away. Also always have clean wraps, stops them getting too damp in the first place.
A bit of cat litter in a sock or foot off of a pair of tights knotted so it doesn't come out pop them in you gloves after training helps to neutralise odours and absorb moisture and it's cheap as chips, if you use a pair of tights double or triple the ball up b4 u knot them so no bits come out.

Thank you so much i was having trouble with the smell of my boxing gloves after practice I went through a few gloves already cause of the smell, thanks bro🙏🏻
Damn that sucks. I got Cleto Reyes gloves a year ago and they don't smell at all, in fact they still smell a little new (that reyes leather smell). I don't even whip down the gloves after use, just throw them into a corner with velcro open. I'd assume it's the quality of the gloves too because I had some 20$ ringside gloves that smelled after 3 months after using it (threw them out cause the stuffing was coming out). Also my shin pads smell pretty bad too, but since nobody's smelling my legs no harm done. So it could be the quality, assuming you're doing the basics (not leaving it in gym bag, wiping it down after use, drying) which to be honest is common sense.
I think I might get some cause mine are always everlast but the only ones that stink up are these the training ones the ones for sparing and fighting with the laces don’t really stink up

If you have smelly gloves/shoes you can put them into a plastic bag and pop them inside the freezer for a couple of days. The cold should kill off any bacteria or fungi making the smell
I put tea bag in mine (red berries for some reasons); smelled nice but I got told I was a princess at my gym for that :p It was kinda true but it did smell less and that's awesome
To eliminate odor: 50/50 solution of water and *white vinegar* (not apple cider vinegar or any other type) in a spray bottle. Mist the inside of the glove until visibly wet (not soaked). Allow to dry. The vinegar smell will dissipate when it dries as will the odor from the bacteria. This does not *clean* the glove. It simply neutralizes the pH. I do this once a week or as needed (I have good quality Cleto Reyes and Yokkao gloves and want them to last). You can also do this with your gym clothes. After awhile you'll notice that as soon as you start to sweat, your clothes will smell like ammonia. No matter what you do it will not go away. I tried everything from baking soda to OxyClean. Nothing worked. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar to your load of laundry along with detergent. Wash as usual and dry. Your clothes will stay fresh and the ammonia odor won't be there when you start sweating.
Yo Shane, how are you? This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering when will you get some guys together and cover a judo lesson? As you know, most (street) fights end up in clinching range and can end up being a tug of War match. It would be great if you can do a video on that.

Thank you!
Yo Shane, how are you? This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering when will you get some guys together and cover a judo lesson? As you know, most (street) fights end up in clinching range and can end up being a tug of War match. It would be great if you can do a video on that.
I can personally attest to dryer sheets in your gloves, and essential oils on your wraps (very little amount).
Tee Tree essential oil works (few drops) but you have to do it each time
